Ok, I'm totally "out-of-stylus". My second stylus just snapped. I'm getting a replacement soon, but I don't want any of this original crap (excuse my French). So here are some alternatives:
1. Metal, looks shiny, sturdy

I have the 3-in-1 and so far so good. Won't break like the original. I rarely use the pen though. Comes with black ink only at the time I bought mine.

did it snap because it fell? or does your LCD require you to tap hard on it? You might want to make a registry hack so that it will require less pressure to tap than usual.
i already have replaced 5 styli, i think this would be the solution to my problem.

got it from this site... but for my unit, i had to search for the word touch (to see pressure treshold) using tools/find in the registry editor, as it is located in another directory.

Minimize Pressure when Tapping the screen
Ever got used to tapping without screen protectors and suddenly you put some screen protector and have a pecuilar feeling (some-what like tapping harder than u normally do) due to the increase thickness of the protector?
Well i have gone to that and finally ive done some simple tweaks to my xda mini.
I also figure out this could lessen normal wear and tear(scratching of protectors/PDA screens) since lesser pressure is applied to Tap the screen
here's what i did..
thru the PHM registry editor(or any PPC registry editor)
go to..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Drivers\Touch
or find 'Threshold'
Change the value of Pressure Threshold.(INCREASE value ONLY!!!)
what i did is set the value at 11880.
i tried doubling the default value. until i have reached my desired setting.
now,its like tapping soflty without having a feeling that i have screen protector. Also less stress on the stylus and screen and faster tapping.
WARNING: Only INCREASE THE VALUE BUT NEVER THE DECREASE THE DEFAULT VALUE.
Lowering the value of Pressure Threshold means you need to apply more pressure in tapping than you normally do.
ive tried this and when i soft reset, the screen won't react even if i apply deep pressure in tapping so i needed to do a HARD Reset!!!
So don't ever think of lowering the value, JUST INCREASE but NEVER LOWER!!

Mine snapped right out of the box! The tip just dropped off. It was a new Atom sent to me by O2 to replace another I killed
yikes! these things do seem to be too brittle for comfort. i've resorted to using another type of stylus... and it has proven to be much sturdier than the last 5.

I had the same problem as you do but it started since I started using an XDA2(HIMA) 2 years ago. I have what people here term as a heavy hand. I broke my atom stylus a couple of months ago. Styli are very expensive here so I made one. I used bamboo and sand and whit it until I get the right diameter. I also applied some wax and burn it a little so that it will look a bit like I used hard wood. (I tried using hard wood before. It took me 2 days to make 1 stylus. It takes too much time and effort. Bamboo stylus takes only 2 hours to make.) It's a bit lighter though. At least it doesn't break. The wax prevents the tip from scratching the screen protector. If you guys like, I can make some for you.

Take a close look next to the volume keys
Also, in the back of the lcd, as well as around the keyboard, to avoid scratches between the lcd and the keyboard when sliding
I wonder if all this shielding is a "lifetime shielding" or if it was applied only for transport reasons...

It's a nice protection against the sliding of the screen. I guess after a while the screen get looser and the sliding doesn't scratch the plastic?

What about the plastic on the back of the device? near the volume buttons? can you also take that off or is that some kind of protection that you cant take off?

They are already peeling off on mine (around the keyboard at least), and only after 3 days
The protections on 1 side of the keyboard came of when sliding it open a few times. The rest is still in place and I'll leave them there till they start to peel.
I took the 3 off the keyboard off, they didn't look like they were supposed to be permanent as they came off easy.
Can see the one on the back, anyone take this off?
I noticed the ones around the kedyboard, but not the one on the back.
The piece tol the right of my keyboard had peeled already, but I'll leave the others to stay or peel off through use.
every review i've read online before i bought the unit was boasting about how "finger-friendly" the TP2 was, and that you could lightly swipe your finger across it to navigate the menu and that the touchscreen was very sensitive and whatnot
however after 2 weeks of use i find that to be relatively untrue. i've got to apply a fair amount of pressure on the screen to get it to register my input. of course, i'm posting this because i'm afraid that i might be damaging the screen in the process
i have no basis for comparison actually, my only 2 other touchscreen devices at home are an iphone and a cowon s9, both use capacitive screens. i always knew there was a big difference between capacitive screens and resistive screens, i just didn't know it was THIS huge. i can actually slide my finger lightly over the iphone's surface and its registered properly. the sliding probably feels smoother as its glass, but i can live with the TP2's plastic. what do you guys think ? should i get it checked out at the HTC store ?? its on the other side of town, don't wanna waste a trip as if its not a problem
oh yeah and just to get this out of the way, the screen is a membrane and not a hard surface right ?? everytime i press on the screen using my finger or the stylus, i can feel the screen slightly moving down, can also see the surface getting slightly dented at the point my finger pushes it if looking at it from a certain angle.
ps before somebody asks: i only got to test the keyboard at the telco store, some punk had cracked the screen of the display set, so i didn't know about this screen issue until i actually purchased the set

Well, I don't have an Iphone so i can't tell you about how it compares with the TP2, however, i found the display to be much better than the one on my old XDA. It will probably never as good as a capacitive device like the touchpad on my laptop, but I found it to work very well. You have to apply a certain amount of pressue to the display, because it reacts on pressure, so I guess there is nothing wrong with that. I also see a small dent when I use the stylus and press the display. I cannot confirm the screen slightly going down when pressing it.
To summarize it, i use the Stylus 90% of the time. It glides much better on the display than my finger does so the overall experience is slightly better when using a stylus. Plus i don't get any greasy fingerprints on my display.
However the 10% I use my fingers to work on it (and 25% of that 10% is spent on polishing I found it to work pretty well, so in general I don't think that the reviews were off when it comes to finger usability.
What you are describing is probably normal. Resistive screens do require pressure. The TP2 tends to require less pressure than others, but nonetheless it does require it. There's no comparison if you compare it to a capacitive screen device because those don't require pressure at all.
The flexing of the screen that you described is something all resistive screens have. Again, if you compare the screen flex of the TP2 to earlier HTC devices, it's greatly improved.
To be on the safe side, go to a store and try out other resistive screen devices and see if you experience the same thing as your own. Then you'll know what is considered "normal".

From a few years to nowadays i´ve always used QTEK/HTC devices, my latest one is, ofcourse, HTC RHODIUM, the rom it has installed is RUU_Rhodium_HTC_PTG_1.19.410.0_Radio_Rhodium_3.44.25.27_Signed_Ship, and the screen is very sensitive and responsive, i´m just very pleased with it overall, it´s the best.

you don't need .cab
just change in registry...
HKLM/drivers/Touch Driver/pressurethreshold, (default=10000)
(I might not remember perfectly, but it's something like that)

this might help just re align your screen again using little pressure then your screen will not need some much pressure to work.
I have found the this not only aligns the screen but the pressure as well.
mine I just have to lightly touch it and dont have to press very much at all.

there are invisible glide protectors on side of keyboard, and from one side this protector came off - and now every time I open it, it's more and more coming off.
so what you think? is it possible to get new them somewhere? or it's sefe just to remove them? all of you have the same at their phones?

That is the normal protectors installed from factory, during manufacturing for product quality reasons. I admit that they really protect the plastic from getting scratched. But as mentioned in the manual, you should remove it from the phone itself (both glide stickers, the upper sticker in the keyboard, near the hidges, the back screen cover sticker and the front sticker protecting the screen). To substitute, I must say that problably you should cut some plastic clear sticker (same used to protect book covers) with the size and format of the sticker removed and attached in the glide sections to protect it from scratches of opening and closing the keyboard.

At the moment I have all the protectors, because I'm waiting for my Screen Protector from Proporta. The others in the keyboard I will keep, mainly because I bought a phone with the keyboard but I only use the screen one, not the physical one (so If I had open the keyboard 10 times since I had the phone was too much).
If it is a clear sticker than obviously you remove it once it wears out and live with it....

Mine is sliding off on the left side only. I was just going to slice off the part that is crinkling up and keep the rest of it on. I don't want to find out if it will get scratched or not.

The back one, under the middle of the screen i havent removed because it looks like it would be too much of a pain to try. So im just waiting till it starts to come off on its own.
if you're concerned about being able to cut them as precise as the originals just use an exacto knife. Just put the plastic piece over the plastic you will use to replace it and trace it with the knife.
i just cut off the tips on both sides as it was crinkling up, kept the rest of it

just rip it off and live with it dude... I took the film cover off of my Xperia and nothing happened to my keys. If you are worried about the glossy back scratching than you obviously have too little things to worry about.
And if you are that person than obviously you can afford a second one because taking it off won't damage any phone.

well if really, I don't worry about back side scratches and about other minor things all I see now it's two stickers what are located on the left and right sides from the keyboard (i don't see so space in xperia), this space is used for gliding - so every time you are opening keyboard, two small stands from the back of the screen sliding in this area, where these stickers are - and after two days of using this device - this stickers are pretty scratched. so I decided to ask, if it's safely to remove or it's they needed to be replaced and seems like I'll finish by removing them both.
but anyway other owners experience is welcome

Just like I said........ the back side get's scratched....
unless you are talking about the sticker that is most likely found on the bottom half (the half that is on the same plane as the keyboard).
If so, then I hope it only scratches everything but the qwerty keys.

I took it off within a couple days, cause thats when i noticed they were even there lol. Its hard to say how often i open it. I generally text with the keyboard all the time (vs using the on screen one). Some days ill send 4 or 5 text messages, some i wont send any.
I dont think any of us has really had it long enough to even accumulate scratches from simple wear and tear. What you have to realize is that plastic film, is the same kind they wrap EVERYTHING up with. It was on my 46" LCD (the frame i mean) as well as both of my 19" monitors (also the frames). They wrap electronics up in that crap to keep it from getting scratched during manufacturing and shipping, but it rarly ever looks good left on.
My point? it isnt meant for long term protection. Just rip it off and run with it. The plastic housing is the same material/texture as what they use on laptops (least on mine) so it will take the wear and tear. I suspect over time it will develop 'slide' marks on it, but it wont take anything away from the device itself.

I'am sure that we are talking about the same things but anyway I attached photo to this post, with marked RED scratches on the sticker, and marked in BLUE came off part of this sticker.
all my previous HTC phones herlad and wizard had special sliders - where the display glides, here it glides on the viewable area and it don't seems really very scratch resistance, so it's confused me.
the protector at the middle top of the keyboard, and the one behind the screen
i wonder whether sliding is affected by the 2 protectors?
I had 4 protectors: screen protector, behind screen one, and two at keyboard - on it's sides (on of them you can see on my photo), so while gliding only these 2 protectors are affected.
i removed the small one at the middle top of the keyboard
now the sliding is smoother!
i am left with the one behind the screen... should i remove..?
ok... i removed the one at the back
and now the sliding action is super smooth

I dropped my Touch Pro 2 in fresh water. No insurance of course and no more discount from T-mobile to buy a new phone.
Following video instructions on youtube I disassembled it, I believe without breaking anything.
The LCD screen was gone (water inside), and I bought a new one in eBay.
Once I received it I reassambled the phone. Evertyhting seems to work fine but... the screen is stuck in landscape!
Of course I did soft and hard reset, tried to play / disable the G-sensor and orientation sensor, nothing: I believe it has to do with some switch that recognize when the keyboard is slide open, but I have no idea what sensor is it, I can't find any mechanism that resemble a micro switch or a mini magnet related to the opening / closing of the keyboard. Instead I find a microswitch that senses when the pen is inside, but nothing about the screen.
Any suggestion, does anybody here have any hardware knowledge on this topic? I tried to use software like Gyrator 2 which put a patch on the problem, but I would rather fix the hardware first: perhaps I did not mount something correctly, where is this sensor, is it magnetic or microswitch, I can't see anything even with lenses on.

I have exactly same problem, my TP2 is stuck in landscape mode. I bought TP2 in the US. My housing was broken so I bought a new one in europe the oem one with lcd screen and digitizer... Could this make the problem?

The sensor must be in the screen-half of the phone underneath where the red "end call" button is. This is demonstrated if a healthy phone is slid open, and then you pass a small magnet underneath the screen in that area, screen will flip between portrait and landscape.
Which yes I did the same thing today and it was your post randell that helped me. All you need to do is go to walmart purchase the smallest but most powerful smallest magnet you can find. cut you a piece of it, superglue it to the bottom right corner. worked like a charm.
or if you wanted to open your case back up like i did you can superglue it on the inside lol. If you look at your old case you will find your old magnet you can use. simple easy just thought id let you know k bye ta ta.

I was on here by chance and I had the same issue when I replaced my digitizer on my TP2 a year ago. I could never figure it out so I bit bullet and brought a new phone. I will try this when I get home and if it works be great because i loved that phone soo much when I had it thanks guys!!

Does anyone else notice that when pressing buttons on the screen to open apps or things in apps etc that it is not always responsive unless you hit it at the perfect angle? Also when I write normally i kind of write more at a sideways angle towards the screen but it seems to not register very well like this so I have to write more vertical towards the screen. Is there any way to fix these issues or is that just how it is at this time? Also i feel like if I write too lightly it doesn't register very well when writing. Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity or am I the only one who thinks this? Lastly, if i touch the screen with my palm it makes a mark in s note i thought it was not supposed to do this or let your finger write when the s pen is out. How do I set this?

I have a similar issue where i seem to have to press hard to get a reaction, especially the app drawer icon.
I notice you have to hit dead on which makes sense. This isn't a pencil or pen where you can write slanted and the ink still touch the paper or what not. But rather the "ball" of the s pen is where your main contact should be. Takes getting used to but what doesn't? Pen works great once you learn how it works

I had to exchange my S-pen 3 times due to sensitivity issue! One of them was way too sensitivity, I wasn't even touching the screen and I could write on S-note... Store manager thought that was part of the Note 2's new feature... lol
Even after the exchange of S-pen I was still having little issues with it, and I ran across a thread about slamming the S-pen on the ground. I know it sounds bizarre but it actually worked! I didn't believe it at first but now my s-pen works flawless... so weird. :silly:

lol like throwing it or just slamming it? and yeah i figured it would just take getting used to I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just my pen. So is there really no settings to change for it though??
Also funny question... does it matter which way it is held? Like when I was first holding it you would press the button with your thumb however you could also hold it so you would press it with your index finger. Does it matter? Is it made to work better one way?

Take a closer look at the tip of the S-pen. It's actually slightly spring loaded! I discovered this from an early review video I watched before I purchased mine. I believe that the tip has to be pressed hard enough to slightly retract in order to produce a mark. Writing with the pen at an angle may not be doing that.

Hey I have the same problem with you but I have solved it in a stupid but effective way. I open the back case and press it, that's it the pen sensitivity back to normal.... lol try it easy and effective....
The S pen can be too sensitive, so you have to adjust its potentiometer. Yes, you heard that right.Just pop the button cover off by simply using a razor blade or something really thin, the cover should pop immediately. Then, you have to use a small flat head screwdriver and turn the screw clockwise. This will adjust the S Pen sensitivity. If you want to make it more sensible, then you have to screw counterclockwise. You should adjust it until it no longer has a problem. This fix has worked for a lot of people, so it should work as a general fix. If you still have problems with the S pen, then you should get in touch with the dealer that gave the phone to you and get the S pen switched because it is faulty.

Then, you have to use a small flat head screwdriver and turn the screw clockwise. This will adjust the S Pen sensitivity. If you want to make it more sensible, then you have to screw counterclockwise. You should adjust it until it no longer has a problem. This fix has worked for a lot of people, so it should work as a general fix. If you still have problems with the S pen, then you should get in touch with the dealer that gave the phone to you and get the S pen switched because it is faulty.

Wish I had known this a last week before I broke my last S Pen. lol Worked great and I even adjusted my full size S Pen as well! Kudos!
