I just got a request to post a comparison of the SX66 (Blue Angel) and the 8125 (Wizard). So... here is goes.
Lets start with some obvious differences.
The 8125 has WM5 and it is quite stable. It also has that smart dialer and it kinda nice too. The contacts provides syncing with Outlook 2003 (and exchange 2003) in a more intricate way then WM2003 did. For instance it syncs contact pictures and therefore there is no need for a "photo contacts" app.
The BT on the 8125 is Microsoft, I think that is a double edge sword. You see it works with my BT headset like a champ!!! (Anyone who has suffered through using a bt headset with the blueangel knows what a relief it is to have it JUST WORK!) However I think that it dosent support certain BT profiles that the BA did, cause it used WICOMM (sp?).
The key board on the 8125 is SO much bigger then the BA (although the device is smaller). I was unsure of how much I would like the side sliding keyboard, but I got use to it in about 10 min and it is nice and easy to use, plus so far it hasn't just stopped working for no apparent reason and required a soft reset (once again BA owners know what I'm talking about)
I found it typing to be considerably faster on the 8125 then the BA just cause of way the keys click when pressed, its more defined then it was with the BA.
The 8125 has a 1.3 MP camera, I have to say that the VGA camera offered on some BA's sucked, and the SX66 didn't even have one. So the fact that the 8125 has a camera is great in comparison to the SX66 which didn't have one at all. Plus it does video, burst shots, shots specifically for contact photos, and up to a 2x zoom (digital). Its also has a light on it that, although it is quite bright to look at, doesnt seam to do much for the pictures. I think I will take a pic to post with this thread.
That brings me to WIFI, I know you are all thinking that they are equal when it comes to WIFI, but they aren't =) You see the 8125 works on G-only networks. I didn't change the registry on mine to make it do so either. I have posted about this an I am waiting for someone else to confirm this. Plus the WIFI works a lot more smoothly on the 8125. Just less over all hassle.
The 8125 has A LOT less hardware buttons then the BA. I have to admit that I missed them at first. However now there is a small app (and i mean REALLY tiny) that makes one hand use not just do able but down right easy.
The speaker on the 8125 is MUCH loader than the ba. I dont just mean on speaker phone or when ringing either, I mean on regular also. It is very easy to hear people now, even in a noisy place, such as Jamba Juice with all their blenders going and the music playing. I will admit that the sound on the 8125 has more treble then the BA had. The BA had quite a bit more bass. But I would rather hear the person I am talking to then hear my boom boom musics bass.
Voice command over BT works. To be honest it works well considering the voice codec for BT is 8bit and Voice Command uses 16bit. It requires some reg editing, not much at all, and ta da, it works.
The 8125 uses just a USB cable to sync and charge, and that also makes using it for DUN a lot more convenient. Where as the SX66 requires a proprietary connector.
The BA is faster when it comes to BIG programs such as GPS Navigation. As soon as I can get iGuidance working on the 8125 (I think it is a WM5 issue, I get a security message when I try to run the app after installing) I will post a good run down of the difference. However in day to day things like PIE, messaging, voice command, and phone calls of course it runs great. As soon as I can run iGuidance I will let you know. I can tell you that NAVIGON ran quite unbearably slow on the 8125.
The 8125 is MUCH smaller then the BA. It is much more portable, where as the BA was quite luggable. It is lighter, smaller, and one hand friendly (especially with that smartkey app). I was always finding myself dressing to so that I was suited to carry my SX66 all day... those sad days are gone now =)
I think I touched on everything there. But if you have any questions just post and I will be glad to answer.
Later; Lew
P.S. Wow, I almost forgot about EDGE. 8125 has EDGE. SX66 does not.

UPDATE:
Due to a little debate on Skype (I had never used it), I installed skype on the wizard. I then tested it. I ran skype with the wifi on and connected to a g-only access point. Skype ran good while not in a skype call. It was very responsive and chatting was easy. When I made a skype call it connected, and to be honest worked ok, the quality was good and the conversation wasn't lagged (not by the Wiard atleast). However I must say that the Wizard was VERY slow to respond to any input, such as pressing the hang up button in skype, but the conversation as smooth (BTW it was over the internet, NOT the local network.) So my conclusion is SKYPE WORX... it just uses ALMOST ALL of the devices resources.
BTW, I used Skype 2.0, from this URL. Download the one that says;
"Download Skype for 312 MHz CPUs"
http://www.skype.com/products/skype/pocketpc/download.html
more questions...
great review but I've got a couple more questions for you...
I'm thinking of making the same switch.
How do the screens compare (both size and quality)?
What do you think of the stylus?
How is the speed on "normal" applications (like those included with the phone)?
How is the call quality?
Thanks for the information!
Alright the screen size is adequate. It also looks very nice. As nice as SX66 or nicer. To be honest I always keep a screen saver on so it is always partially distorted.
The speed for normal apps is good. I don't know if you ever upgraded to WM5 on the SX66. If you did, then I can definitely tell you that it SMOKES the sx66 with WM5.
I got use to the stylus quickly. It is quite a bit tighter than the SX66's was. So I don't always have to check if it is in there or if it may have fell out. Maybe over time it will get loose, but I always remember the SX66 stylus being loose.
Call quality is better than the sx66. I also was getting some complaints with the SX66 that I was hard to understand, I asked the same people that were complaining if I sounded better with the new phone, they said yes.
Once again if there is anything else just let me know.
Later; Lew
I'm going to buy one!!! How much does it cost without a contract? SX66 is going to be sold!!!hehehehehe
$450.00
and it coems with a 64k sim card.

Wallaby vs Blue Angel
I really want to upgrade to a Wizard or Phophet, too. I have a Wallaby that works fine now, so it's not an emergency or anything.
What I wanted to ask, is there a lot of difference between the Wallaby and the Blue Angel, besides the keyboard and bluetooth? I mean especially the telephone radio? My reception is always poor.
The PDA portion of my Wallaby works well, I can play games or listen to music or view videos just great. i wish it had more than 32MB of RAM, and I expect the Blue Angel has much more memory.
If the phone radio units are about the same, then I really must get a Wizard!
Thanks!
I updated the the review to include Skype. Also to answer your question. The BA had poor radio quality. On another note the wizard is NOT as powerful as the BA. Mine plays video and music with out breakin a sweat. Howver games (my example is Worm World Party), although quite playable, lags when there are explosions.
Hope it helps.
Later; Lew
and alas...
this topic havent seen the WM6 crawl into our BAs and turned it into a mean machine that would surpass all other usurpers.
conclusion... BA(SX66) wins! overall performance.
since no one bothered to defend Wizard. peace!
Hello,
I have a problem with the S9. While listening to music every couple minutes or so, it's like it skips for a second or two.
Also it sometimes will turn itself off.
Anyone experienced any of the two ?
Known problem. Even says so on the box. (Says you should keep it above your waist otherwise it will cut out).
That's bs. it is above my waste...

I had the same - with all 3 of the S9s that I had. Sound quality was great, but it was hyper sensitive to phone location.
And all 3 of them failed with exactly the same problem. They're supposed to be suitable for active people - I used mine whilst running on the treadmill down at the gym. Bit of perspiration in them and then went bzzzzt, stop. Rubbish.
The Jabras that I'm now using don't look anywhere near as good, and don't sound quite as good, but the battery lasts for twice as long, and they don't die when I get a bit sweaty (ewwwww!)
hmmm that really strange as i constantly use my S9 with both my wizard and athena and have never noticed this problem even though my phones are usually lefin my trouser pockets below my waist
True, but it dies after a bit of sweat hits it...and you may find some work better with other phones. IMHO I suggest wait for it to become in-ear and better water protection.
I found the range to be dependent on the bitrate of A2DP
When i 1st got my S9 i could listen from 2 rooms apart but the sound was a bit low quality, ofcourse i value quality and i cnaged it and now the phone has to be really close to me, but its not a prob since i only use it omw to school n back.
Check Here
(Look around if you can find different values working )
I have a similar problem with my S9, except it constantly stutters, playing less than a second at a time. It's completely unuseable.
I've tried changing the bitpool settings, but it didn't make a difference, playback still unuseable. Does anyone know what else it may be? Or if there are any hacks or apps, or any way in which this can be resolved? It used to work fine before I upgraded from WM5 to 6.1
Moto S9 -> SPV M700 (trinity) -> WM6.1
S9
I got my first S9 today by mail, and I connected it so it would charge, and first the light was red and then after about two hours turned blue so I tought it was fully charged, but when I disconnected it the light was just stucked there and I'm unable to turn it off or on, does anyone have any idea why this might be?
Did you order off of ebay jcostantini? If you did you might have a fake or defective there.
Kraize
Yes - Have an S9. It worked fine on my Trinity (SPV M700) before I flashed the roms and upgraded to 6.1
Now it doesn't want to work. Every half second it skips for a 10th of a second, this happens no matter how I change the bitpool sizes etc etc.
Does anyone... ANYONE... have an idea.
I have tried it on a couple of different radio ROM's too...
Cheers!
could be just the ROM, i would suggest just waiting for a good final version to come out for your 6.1 loaded phone... if its already loaded, then i suggest you post it in your specific phone problem to troubleshoot
i have s9 + HTC juno/phoebus with the clean dev 6.1 running and they run awesome, phone placement is no issues and i only have some skip issues every few minutes which i dont' mind... sound clarity and quality is excellent
Guys,
I appologies if I am going to repeat some of the stuff already written but believe me I read most of the posts already.
To keep the story short, last year I bought a TP and my intention was to retire my old trusted Wizzard. I was very disapointed and I sold the device after one month of frustration. Please keep in mind that my baseline is the Wizzard.
1. The sound level was so low I bearily heard the phone converstion when I was in a bit noisy environment (like in the car, or mall)
2. The touch screen became active when somebody called and the phone was replying automatically whilst in the pouch.
3. GPS lag, compared to my Wizzard plus an external gps, 2-3 seconds more delay compared with the Wizzard (TomTom)
4. No lateral buttons for voice recording during a call, or voice notes, without browsing the software.
5. The screen was way to small for the 3D interface.
6. Battery life very short, 1.5 days max compared to the Wizzard 3-4 days. (30 min calls, 30 min wifi, 1 hour of screen on for games per day.) For traveling the Wizzard with full battery, BT on and the screen on max bright, TomTom runing it lasts 4-5 hours. The TP last max 2,5 hours same conditions.
7. I use a lot voice calls while I'm in the car. Does the TP2 have it?
Please help me to decide whether the TP2 is the phone for me or maybe I should go for the TyTn II.
Thanks a lot for your feedback/opinions/comments.
Get it you'll love it

Touch Pro2 (Rhodium) is excellent, you will not be disappointed.
Also if you had waited a while and tried some of the custom Roms from here for you Touch Pro you would have been very impressed with the device, admittedly it did require a lot of reworking and tweaking on the software side of things to make it acceptable. I still have my Touch Pro and it really isn't that bad a device, the only reason I upgraded to the Rhodium was for the bigger screen and keyboard (my thumbs are far too large for the Touch Pro keyboard to be useable for my needs)
I also own a Tytn 2 and TP2 is a huge improvement over it!

Wizard Vs TP2
Hi there,
My personal experience with the wizard wasnt great, yes it was the first with a slide out, horizontal keyboard but it had a slow processor and was far too sluggish for the things I threw at it, I also had the Tytn and the Tytn 2 (my personal favourite for a long time) and I finally bought the TP2 (skipped the TP1 as I was so impressed with the Tytn 2 I felt it was moving slightly backwards).
I can say without doubt that I love the TP2, it's taken a little tweaking and getting used to as there is a lack of hardware buttons (no navigation buttons) and there is no voice call option via bluetooth (I am still working on getting MS Voice Command 1.6 to connect).
I would personally say that if you cam live without the hardware buttons and voice activated calling via bluetooth then go for it, otherwise get the Tytn 2 as it's still an amazing bit of kit and it still has the tilt screen.
I hope this helps.

Yes, it helps a lot, thank you guys for your feedback.
Concerning the voice call, without bluetooth, is it available on TP2? I mean like for the Wizard, you press a hardware button and the phone is waiting to make the voice call.
Is the phone loud enough, anyway louder than TP1?
I know the wizzard wasn't fast at all - I cannot run skype for instance - but with some compromises it fits my needs. Of course I would love the bigger screen and the faster processor and the integrated GPS of the TP2.

Does this mean that when the TP2 is connected to a car kit via bluetooth and then i initiate a call by speaking the name of the person through the car kit that it wont work ? i.e. my built in car kit has the option for voice dialing but it connects to the phone over bluetooth. Is this the same thing or have i misunderstood the quote above ?
thanks
i have tmobile tp2
and i dislike its earpiece sound quality
my previous universal was much better
this is on stock radio 3.45, and on newest 4.49.25.17
my tilt2 sounded muffled when I got it. I tried different hacks but none of them worked. I ended up getting it exchanged. my new tilt2 is on the way.
I graduated from the Fuze to the Tilt 2. At first, I didnt think it would be that much of a different experience but, after I played with the Tilt 2, I must say that its definitely worth the upgrade. The bigger screen makes a huge difference, tho its the same processor speed as the Fuze, the Tilt 2 OS feels much more snappier. The build feels much better in the hands than the Fuze. PIE 6.5 is kinda slow and not as eye candy but feels much solid than opera and PIE 6.1. The speakerphone, hands down is the best I've experienced in years on a PDA/mobile phone. I thought it could've used a little more treble, but in comparison with the Fuze, the Tilt 2 speakerphone makes the Fuze's sound completely inferior. With today's technology, there's no reason why HTC shouldn't have included decent speakerphones in their handsets! The camera, I expect it to be good in a well lit area. I mostly tested the camera in low lit areas to see how well it performed, and from my test, just a slight improvement over the Fuze. The Gps works excellent. It was able to locate satellites within 20 secs in an open area. Overall, a well made phone, Finally!!

Im in the same boat, my new one arrives tomorrow, crossing fingers the sound is better...I had the muffled sound quality too especially with lower voices...speaking females (at least most of them) there was not an issue, but when I spoke to men on the phone it sounded low and muffled.
very sad to realize but it seems a hardware issue
..................
after some search ive found such thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550784
i will try different audiopara and post the result
some people in that thread told it helped
the only thing i cant understand, why the muffleness stays after reflashing? i tried different roms from nrgz28 and official russian. the radio also have been reflashed to the newest
I have complained about mine to the wife quiet a few times when talking with her, tilt 2 to tilt 2. I find myself moving the phone around to hear better, but it just doesnt get better. Im gonna try her phone and see if there is a difference.
I don´t have any issues with my sound quality
it´s just as good as my beloved Uni
For my original Tilt, at full volume, I can hear the caller standing 2-3 feet away from the phone. For my Tilt 2 I couldnt. Even when the phone is pressed against my ear, the sound is muffled with no mid to high frequency. It sounds like a midrange speaker with low pass xover set at 750hz. I wish I still have my SA3055
tried several audiopara files and no success
thinking its hardware
my thoughts are that earpiece hole is not enough opened, seems like a piece of plastic is resonating when low voice is coming out
its just my thoughts, perhaps its simply faulty earpiece speaker
now i thinking of disassembling it or not. i wouldnt do that, but i bought it on ebay so no warranty
Same problem here.
Went to at&t store and exchanged it,... twice. Same story. Tried flashing different ROMs and Radios - problem persists. Will try to exchange it one more time. If issue is still there, will return the phone - I have till Nov 17th.
BTW the sound is muffled not only with earpiece - speaker and headset have similar sound issue.
Other than that phone(PocketPC) is great. But sound quality is crucial, for me at least.

Agree with this..i did flash a customer rom and the reg and windows folder didn't have the audiopara files...so not sure what it used, it seemed like the sound was a bit better than stock.
But to your point, I wonder if its possible to enable a equalizer software for the earpiece and to see if we can add some mid-range or whether the hardware just couldn't support that...but agree the muffled sound is due to lack of midrange/treble.
finally i think its hw
and im wondering why this or similar thread are not sticky, cause there are a lot of complaints

I'm 100% satisfied with mine - the amazing in-call clarity is one of the phone's best features. Then again, I don't have the T-Mobile version; it seems like everyone who does has problems with the earpiece.
strange situation, all complaints from tmo or att branded tp2s
does anybody have such problems with unlocked/unbranded ?
seems problem resolved for me after flashing radio from tmobile 4.49.25.05
I have the Samsung Galaxy S 16GB but am about to return it due to the useless GPS and get a Desire (or eventually recover the money and buy a Desire later)
How accurate is the current Desire's GPS? Can anyone show me some MyTracks paths for instance?
Another thing that worries me is audio quality on the 3.5mm as I use the units a lot for music. How well does it behave with audiophile headphones? Including low-impedance ones.. any background hiss, etc?
The Galaxy S is really excellent at audio and the screen is amazing but I really need a well-balanced unit that includes a reliable GPS.
I have never had an issue with the GPS but I've only used it for in-car navigation every now and again. The sound on the Desire is acceptable for me. I'm using a pair of Klipsch Image X1s and it sound the same as, if not better than the iPod.
It does however seem to have a volume limiter on it which is bloody annoying! Still it's not an issue if you have a decent pair of 'phones.
Same expeirence here. Music quality on headphones is at least the same as on the ipod classic (old 80GB model). Gps outside has a quick fix (usually within 10 seconds) and i haven't had any signal los yet (except for tunnels and inside buildings).

Audio quality is almost as good as Galaxy S. Maybe a little bit noisy, but it's a phone after all.

Audio quality is at least comparable (or better) with iRiver T60 and better than in most ipods. I'm using Koss Porta Pro or AKG K416P headphones.
10 sec or less GPS fix on desire is only if using AGPS (you have the 3G so it can load satellite data). Otherwise it takes more than a minute. It helps if you are not moving.

Thanks for the feedback.
I don't really care about the fast fixes. Don't mind waiting at all even if the initial gprs assistance is off. That I care about is accuracy and keeping the locks after the inicial fix. That is something the Galaxy can't do.
I gathered some more feedback about the audio and while the Desire seems weaker in that area it should be good enough for normal use.
One thing I'm now wondering is if it suffers from the same "lag" or occasional pauses that I got on the Galaxy. Sometimes it would pause for 2 or 3 seconds while some IO was happening, sometimes more. Perhaps I'll post that in a different thread.
Meanwhile if anyone has more GPS tracks (google maps is fine) especially driving in town, I'd like to see them. The ones I did with my Galaxy S are just scary and full of zig-zags... don't want that again.
I’ve used my desire to track routes with Maverick when out mountain biking in Portugal. I put it in my shorts pocket and it tracked me very accurately without any variations. I haven’t really used it in my car while driving. I can give it shot today and see what results I get. Obviously it’s not going to be as accurate while driving as it is when cycling because of the speed factor but I will let you know later on.
I have used my desire since I got it in April, as my Ipod, and Tom Tom and cycle computer. It does all these thing very well. I agree about the headphones, should be decent quality. Have not experienced any problems with music play back, while doing other things. Gps seems very accurate. The desire is now my main music device, there are several music apps which are better than the stock player, Mixzing is one and it now has an equalizer, which I don't use, but is there if you need it.
Hi Beowulf_pt I’ve uploaded two tracks I recorded yesterday when I was out driving. Both of them seem very accurate and don’t deviate or jump about at all. The 2nd one is over 34miles long and is very accurate. A lot of the roads I went down have tree/hedge coverage on both sides too. I you want to get a good idea of what the roads look like you can go onto Google earth street view as all of Northern Ireland has street view. I’m very impressed with the performance of the GPS on the desire anyway.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for taking those, those don't have many low speed driving with lots of turning probably but in any case are very accurate, really pretty good.
If anyone wants a good laugh, this is what the great Desire's rival produces.. the mighty Samsung Galaxy S:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...09658333539209.00048d44b071f0237417b&t=h&z=14
I tried everything (except plugging in an external antenna yet) but it loses lock so often and is so imprecise that tracks look like that and navigation is pathetic.
It’s strange the results you got with the Samsung. It’s kind of understandable that it’s inaccurate between buildings but in areas that are quite open it’s bad as well. Did you try it with Assisted GPS (mobile internet) on? Admittedly I didn’t use it when I took mine but maybe it might help yours. The only City I could really use mine on is Belfast and I’m off at the moment so I would get the chance to try it for a few days. Belfast wouldn’t be in the same class as city as Lisbon. I still think the Desire would get a lot better results than the Samsung though.
I think the Samsung GPS chip has alzheimer's. It gets confused quite easily.
