XDAIIi, Bluetooth Headset and GPS

Hi
I'm looking at purchasing an XDA IIi from O2, both to use as a PDA, phone and for SatNav. It's likely that I'll go with TomTom and I already have a Bluetooth GPS receiver.
I've already got an O2 blue headset that works with my SonyEricsson T610 and I'll also be wanting to use that whilst in the car.
I have some questions that I hope some of you might be able to answer...
Is it possible to use both a bluetooth headset and bluetooth GPS at the same time?
Does the XDA IIi support the O2 blue as the SE T610 does, i.e. I press the button and say the contact I want to call and then the phone (home, mobile etc).?
Thanks for any help!

Hi
I have the Jabra BT 200 headset and the Leadtek 9537 GPS unit. They both work fine at the same time on my Xda IIi.
I was checking the GPS using Pocket Streets (have not re-installed Tom Tom yet but I do not envisage a problem)
The BT setup seems better on the IIi, there wasn't any messing around with the COM port settings like there was with the Xda II.
If you mean the fonix VoiceDial software that comes with it, then yes, it does work that way.
On the whole, I am pleased with the IIi (I had the II for a year), the camera is flakey but I can live with that.
MarkySan...
Thanks for that... Looks like it'll do what I'm after
I might then have to become a regular on these forums!
Cheers

Be warned, if you mean the o2 CLIP blue headset (made by iTech), I also have it and have been unable to get it working. (Why oh why can I not have the old stack from the xda2 as that worked perfectly with headset profile)
At one point I was briefly able to get it installed as a handsfree device but it then stopped working. Before I got rid of my xda2 I tried re-pairing the devices and it worked great first time. Other BT headsets I had access to worked fine.
Does anyone else have this headset and an xda2i? I've posted about this before but got absolutely no feedback whatsoever. Could anyone tell me if they're using a clip style headset (not the ones that hook round your ear) with the 2i...how much it cost and what make etc. I may have to bite the bullet, sell the o2 headset and buy another one.
Cheers

2 BT devices simultaneously on XDA II
This is an interesting problem. I've got an XDA II, a leadtek BT gps receiver and a nokia handsfree BT carkit, plus Tom Tom.
I haven't got them all working at once yet and have been told there is a problem getting the handsfree to work anyway.
This was from a so called reputable high st mobile phone chain (who also said that only one BT device could be connected at once).
Any help or advice appreciated....

Well, I got my XDA IIi and very nice it is too.. this is my first foray into the world of PDA so I've nothing to compare too, so I'm very pleased
I've twinned it with my O2 blue headset and it works fine.
Also got TomTom navigator and a bluetooth GPS (although you still need a cable for power across the dashboard! Doh!).
They both work together, although there does seem to be some strangeness when they're both on:
1. The GPS sometimes drifts off... although this is based on a 15 minute drive into Town only
2. When on a call, the GPS signal seems to go completely and TomTom doesn't know where I am!
I do have a question about WiFi and MMS if anyone could help...
I have a WLAN at home, whihc the XDA IIi seems to connect to fine. However, when I am connected to it, I cannot send or receive MMS messages.. I'm sure it's something to do with this 'Internet' or 'Work' stuff, but this is all rather confusing. Has anyone written an idiots guide to all these strange settings?
Thanks!
ive used it all week on calls and even had the voice through my jabra 250 gps stayed on all the time it was fine the only problem i had was i couldnt get gprs without a softreset
Alix, are you saying you got the Tom Tom voice directions through the Jabra?
If so, I'm off to get the i!
Firstly is this forum ONLY for developers?
Because you will quickly discover that I am not a developer but a confused user and I was hoping that I could get some advice here?
Anyway I have a Bluetooth headset and was considering getting TomTomGo but also wondered if the headset and a BT GPSr would work together.
Also does anyone know if we will ever get voice dialling working on MobilePPC? I had a brief discussion with someone at Fonix who said that "Microsoft does not expose the necessary functions to third party software developers like Fonix".
Actually, now I've been using it for a while, it seems the reason Tom Tom drifted was because of a loss of signal.
Using the BT headset and Tom Tom with the BT GPS together is fine.
What is annoying though is the fact that the Phone App pops up in front of Tom Tom and doesn't go away when the call is complete.
Also, when touching the button on the headset to open the connection with the phone, it doesn't automatically start the Voice dial, you still have to reach across and fumble about looking for the button on the side. Has anyone got any ideas if it's possible?
That being said, the voice dial works OK.. not brilliant, and the voice that tells me what it thinks I've said is rather disappointing.. I want to keep telling it to 'Please speak more clearly' !
And I too can hear the Tom Tom voice prompts through the BT headset when the conection is open, although I prefer not to.
See my note re what the Fonix guy said above.

You can ONLY connect to MMS via the O2 GPRS network. Since your WIFI is outside their network, and is somebody elses, they won't let you login to their servers to send. All the carriers work this way - it's how they charge!
Hi,
I have a XDAIIi, Nokia car kit and TomTom 3 bluetooth. I have been trying to connect my phone to the car kit using bluetooth. Unfortunately it will only connect for phone calls. Does anyone knows how to permanently connect the phone using a different profile, so that I can listen to music and voice instruction of my TomTom using the car audio system? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

All I can help you with is that using my Jabra I press the call end button on the headset and the sound for my Tom Tom and MP3s comes through the headset.
Hope this helps.
Thanks mindracing. Do you know what services/profile your jabra return when you enquire it?
KR,
Reda
It shows up as Hands Free connection to Jabra 250.
Status just shows Jabra 250/Audio Gateway.
If you know where else to look just ask.
Thanks mindracing. yesterday I tried every possible combination but it seems I cannot stream my music and Tomtom instruction to the car kit.
Thanks anyway.

just a note on this. I have had a jabra bt205 working with a QStarz BT-800 gps, it works ok BUT when i changed from the jabra to a stereo headset it workd ok too but only on the crap audio quality. I installed the cab file for A2DP support. now i have really good audio but as soon as i try to connect the gps the audio goes all choppy and eventualy cuts out.
It is of my limited opinion that you cant run A2DP and a bluetooth GPS because of the bandwidth (data transfer) available. Ive yet to see if i can get tomtom running with the wired gps and A2DP quality headset.
Think ill be goin back to wired headset for on the bike so i can have music, tomtom and calls... just need to find someone on here who has got a voice dial prog to run from the green call button on the wired headset.
GPS and BT Headset on XDA II

I use the MS BT stack with my Blue Ant BT earpiece and the Broadcom BT stack with a BTGPS74R receiver (aka Holox BT-321). They both work well individually, but not together. Another post made the point about com port issues ... well yes, I use the Broadcom BT Manager for this purpose, but the XDA II does not pair with the Blue Ant, even with TomTom 6 OFF. It shows up but is not really paired correctly.
Perhaps there is a simple answer ... if so, I am sure someone will advise me.

GPS track logger?

Does anyone know of any free GPS tracklogging software for PPC?
I've spotted full commercial map creation software that includes trackloggers, but not just standalone tracklogging stuff.
Basically all I want to do is stick my BlueTooth GPS in the top of my rucksack, and have it connected to my XdaIIs/BlueAngel, and for the Xda to log where I've been by recording the GOS position info every couple of seconds.
That way I can then load the track lof into other free software I've got and generate my own maps that way, or load them into other software to analyse them (next question may well be how to create my own TomTom maps, but thats a while away yet!).
My Garmin standalone GPS (a Pilot III) can record tracklogs and I can export them, but I'd much prefer to do this on my Xda using the BT GPS receiver...
If anyone can point me towards something nice and simple to do this that would be great... I'm only doing this out of interest and so don;t want to spend on getting the software when it should be something so simple.
Cheers,
FM
Not free but the best.
GPS2GoogleEarth. You can track every log and see in GoogleEARTH in sattelite image.

I've used this software and think it's great. However there is one problem I've found... if you turn the screen off to save power it disconnects its link with the bluetooth gps device. I've emailed them with this problem, just wondered if someone had got over it...
I plan to use mine snowboarding

Any Version of Telenav That Recognizes Built-In GPS?

I've downloaded every version of Telenav available for my Artemis, but none will recognize the built-in GPS...they all want to search for a BT GPS Receiver. Does anyone know of a hack that will make this app recognize COM 4?
Better yet, with my frustration with TomTom 6.02 that comes pre-installed and USA maps, has anyone in the US found a great mapping solution for this device??
I've tried Navigon 5, but it is terribly slow and I don't like the interface all that well. Thanks for any solutions.
I know this is a different application but it does work on the Artemis have a look at Route 66 - The GPS is found automatically by the software and it works quite well, I don't have USA maps but hey are available - Mike

GPS Software for Elf

Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone had a recomendation for a good GPS porgram? I'm looking for good mapping rather than road directions. Google Maps Mobile is great, but not so good when I'm out of range from a cell tower...
Thanks for your help
smckane
GPS program
TomTom 6 with 6.75 map ( the best, for me)
Navigon 6 ( nice but slower with elf)
Route 66 gps (
Thanks for the sugestions giovanniriccio, but those are all road directions programs, and I don't drive (yet, sadly). Looking for something I can use when out walking / on my bike.
Cheers
How about OziExplorer?
http://www.oziexplorer.com/
Is that what you're looking for? You will need to supply your own (scanned or digital) maps, but if you have those (or find it in gps-forums): it worked great on my HTC Magician. Haven't installed it to my touch yet, though, so I can't promise it will work, and if you don't have the maps in the right format, it can be a bit of a pain in the ass to get it all right.

I myself use Navigon more so then TOM TOM (I have both installed) only because I like the interface a bit better... and waiting an additional 3 seconds to have the program load or another 3 for a route to load in comparision to Tom Tom isn't that big of a deal for me.
However, that said. TomTom 6 and Navigon both give you the option to choose your method of transport, So you can choose walking route or biking instead of driving a car.
Navigon has these options: Fast Car, Standard Car, Slow Car, Motorbike, Lorry, Bicycle, Pedestrian. Now as far as I know it doesnt have walking paths programmed into it it just uses these settings to give you an estimate on how long till you reach your destination.
Same for Tomtom however it's options are as follows; Fastest Routes, Shortest Routes, Walking Routes, and Bicycle routes. I've never used any of these features so now sure how they really work BUT they are there.
Like I was saying about the load up time between the two, depending on what type of Touch you have will likely make a difference because honestly I've barely noticed a difference as far as route loading times but that could be because I have the touch enhanced so it runs fairly fast.
Hope this helps!
Memory-Map
Memory map is brilliant for mountian biking and walking.
http://www.memory-map.com/
30 day trial available and good quality maps (UK, France) available or you can import. Runs on PC and PPC so you can dowload and analyse your routes
I'd second Memory Maps, it has worked brillantly for me on a number of WM devices including the touch. It can be a bit pricey for maps, but Memory maps navigator is free and can import and calibrate scanned maps.
Thank you
Lots of options to play with over the Christams holidays!
Cheers!

Hey Guys...
Heres a link to the Cube Icons thread I made. If you go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351551&page=4
you'll find not only icons for the aplauncher for TomTom and Navigon but I also made some Icons for the mediahub panel of the cube as well.
Anyone know how to fix the "No maps found!" TomTom error? I'm currently using TomTom 6.203 (7220) with USA/Canada maps version 6.75 (1409). I have the maps folder in my microSD card.
No Maps Found
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, dos any body know how to fix, you cannot get into settings to look for maps, it just takes you to tomtom download page
Not sure if this will help but I had had the problem on my treo before and I just simply took the map off and brought it back onto the SD card.
I'm also not sure if the placement of the map has anything to do with it but I had originally had it in the TOMTOM folder. When I moved it to the root menu of the SD card it read the map fine.
Right now I'm running Tomtom 6.010 (7720) and my map is "USA and Canada 675_1409'
I found the solution in another thread from kunz:
Disable Bluetooth Explorer from Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth -> Bluetooth FTP
It causes TomTom to think that the bluetooth folder is your storage card and tries to load map from there. Disabling it should do the trick.

This worked out instantly for me.
You guys may also want to try Navigon Navigator for your phone. I have the latest version 6.2 and it runs super smooth has a way nicer interface then tom tom and has voice control so you can actually just press a button on the phone and say "navigate home" and the program does the route and stuff for you. Its a great feature to use instead of flipping through your favorites or something like that.
I have both tomtom and Navigon on my touch. I use Navigon more however I have noticed that they both sometimes find different routes. On that occasion I noticed tomtoms routes are a little quicker (by say a few minutes... but that could simply be because it calculates the estimated time a bit different) Either way.. something to check out at least. Look up some information on the program and check out screen shots of it. You can tell right away the interface and maps themselves look alot nicer then tomtoms. Both seem to be about the same as far as up to date maps go.
Question!
OK Guys, please excuse my noob question, but as far as I know the Touch does not have GPS. Do you use external Bluetooth GPS devices or how do you use all these apps?

Yes, bluetooth gps. I use GlobalSat BT-359, and I'd like to buy one day "Freedom Keychain GPS SiRF III Receiver" or maybe the small Holux GPS Receiver.
As for software doing maps, there are plenty. I know of: googlemaps, gpstuner, gloposis and sometimes the necessary companion 'gpsgate'. Recently gpstuner got google maps support built in, but I haven't tried (previously one had to build maps oneself for gpstuner).
With a bluetooth gps would it work with garmin maps topo or road maps?
I use GlobalSat BT-359, with Windows Live, along with Microsoft Voice Command 6.1, you can actually tell it where you want to go. The mapping software works fine. The only occasional problem I have, and maybe someone has an answer for this, is it takes a while (5 minutes sometimes), to sync with the GPS "puck". Sometimes closing and reopening the app. several times helps it along. Once in a rare while it will lose the port, as well. I am using port 1. Does anyone have a solution to this? Otherwise, it works great when everything is sync'd.
thanks. Gary
Why not try the "Igo My way 2006 plus"
Igo My way 2006 plus works great with my Touch and it alerts me on approaching the speed cameras. You should try it out. The maps are much more detailed then on other Gps software i used. If you want to use it and you don't find a trial, plz pm me and i will help.
p.s. you have to own a Bt. Gps receiver.

That software looks pretty cool, but I don't see any mention of maps for US/Canada on their website... Do these exist, or is it just for European users?
Thanks....

Listening to music wirelessly from my Artemis P3300

Hello,
I recently bought Jabra BT325s Bluetooth Stereo Earphones. I paired them with my Artemis P3300 phone and could make and listen to calls fine,
however I am not able to listen to music wirelessly. When my headset gets connected to the phone, the phone only give me one option "set as handsfree".
now i have read some threads in this forum that you should select the option "wireless stereo", however I do not get his option in my phone.
could someone please suggest some fix?
BTW, I have recently upgraded to WM6.5 version 02.69.90.
okay i think i have found the fix - "BT Music 1.0 Beta application", however this is an expired version and i had to roll my clock back to get it working but it worked
Anyways, if someone has some better fix or a permanent resolution or as a matter of fact a better version of BT Music which is free and has no expiry, please let me know.
Appreciate it!
