Hello!
I want to buy one stereo BT headset for my Universal and I can' decide which one!
I'm considering on buying Sony Ericsson HSD-DS970, but I've seen that Nokia has HS-12W (with Radio builtin, which is great)!.
So, I want to know your opinion about both of them so I can decide!
I think the price is similiar, Is the sound similar also? What about BT connection good on both?? etc????
Please tell me what to do!
Thanks
Deiota
Deiota:
I have a Nokia HS-12W and i have to say that:
BT Connection - In the range of 1,5 m its very good. If you want more range forget it.
Sound Quality - very good, almost excelente. But its, for sure, one of his kind
Micro Quality - perfect.
Radio- A great plus.
Caller ID - A shame. It only shows the callers numer.
Remote controls - Woks fine
Battery - Weak. This is one the aquiles knees of the HS-12W. You can expect 6-8 hours of intensive use.
Material- Bulk, very good quality.
Overall: I'm very happy with HS-12W. The only issues i have is the battery time and the callers ID, but in general I'ts great (I use it every day)
And I do realy think (i had the same doubt that you have now) that its better that the Sony Ericsson HSD-DS970, because of Radio, Material and Sound Quality.
RE
I'm having the SE HBH-DS970
Comparing spec-wise between the two
Nokia seems to have
a) longer battery life
b) a built-in radio
c) a built-in clip
but it's
a) unable to handle concurrent Bluetooth connections
b) unable to delete individual radio station
Both claim
a) can resume music playback after a call
b) ability to display caller name besides caller number
Well, Sony can't do it on my QTEK9000 aka Universal. I believe they'll work if they're use with their respective company products

I believe the beta below is a newer version:

Can you guys who own the Nokia headset try it out and report back if its showing the Caller ID name or not?

It didnt work, even with Beta. In my Qtek 9000 I still only have number id
BT stereo comparison
I am using both BT on O2 Atom. In my opinion Sony sounds great and has better battery life. But it looses the BT pairing connection which Nokia doesnot. This is issue of BT version which your handset is using the O2 Atom is using BT v 1.2 which is the same as Nokia BT HS-12 headset version. On this Nokia BT head set resume after playback and everything works great. On sony intially pairing does work but after some idle time it looses its connection (This is because it uses BT v 2 that's why handshake problem). On both there is no name caller ID display only number. This is MS stack problem. So I suggest you should first check the BT version of the handset before deciding. I am also using Sony - Ericsso M600 and paired HBH-DS970 BT stereo to this handset where everything works great as desired. Absolutely no problem.

RE
OK, here's my NOKIA HS-12W vs SE HBH-DS970 showdown!!!
Tested with QTEK 9000 (with the latest A2DP ROM) and Conduits Pocket Player v3.0 (with 'Resume playback after phone calls' feature enabled)
Size, Weight and appearance
Nokia is slightly larger and heavier than Sony. Sony is wholly plastic whereas Nokia is half metallic. Appearance-wise Sony is glossy black whereas Nokia is of metallic color due to the stainless steel top casing
Button convenience
Sony allows you to feel the button difference without looking at them. For Nokia you'll need see the buttons in order to see the function of the button. Nokia's keylock prevent accidental pressing of the wrong button
Neck Strap, clip, ear plugs/muffs and headset container
Nokia comes with a built-in clip whereas you have to get one separately for Sony. Sony comes with rubber-insert type ear plugs whereas Nokia comes with standard handphone earmuffs. Sony comes with a plastic container for its headset which is nice
Pairing and Profiles
Both pair equally fast. Sony comes only with 2 profiles : Wireless Stereo and Hands Free. Nokia comes with 3 profiles : Wireless Stereo, Hands Free and Headset
Audio
Loudness - With Conduits Pocket Player set to the maximum Nokia can be adjusted to give a much louder volume.
5m range detection - In open space both can play well without breaking up in music
Full Treble setting, Full Bass & Treble setting & Headphones setting - Nokia is slightly better than Sony in terms of treble, however, Sony's bass is slightly stronger
Music resume after a call - Not possible with Sony. You need to exit the player program (i.e. open my QTEK 9000) and then re-start Pocket Player and AVRCP controls will work. Alternatively, you can do a refresh to your bluetooth to achieve the same result. Possible with Nokia (no need to exit Pocket Player and re-start Pocket Player for it to play) but AVRCP controls not working anymore. You need to turn off Nokia and then turn-on to reconnect and AVRCP controls will work ok i.e. I don't need to open my QTEK 9000 as oppose to Sony
AVRCP controls
Both work with my QTEK 9000's lid OPEN and CLOSE without problem
Caller Name and Number Display
Both cannot display caller name, only caller number. JETware Handsfree Extension v1.11 does not work for both devices
Voice Dialing - For Nokia, its not available during a call or when you're listening to music or radio. With Sony you can dial out when listening to music
Battery Life
According to specs Nokia has about 8hrs of talktime and standby time of 200hrs. Sony has 4 - 6hrs of stereo playback. Don't trust Sony battery status display - the full charge keeps being shown on the display for about 60% of time, and then the rates decreases dramatically and the headset turns off.
Price
Nokia is slightly more expensive than Sony, about US$38 more
Major difference
Nokia works as a radio too but the stations cannot be individually deleted. Sony has multipoint bluetooth feature
Confused

Here you say that SE DS970 will show contact names with Jetware, right?
How is that???
I'mk pretty confuses at that point!
That's the main funcionality that makes me buy a headset (nokia or S). the display! If it doesnt show me contact names, perhaps I wont be biuing afterall!
The thing is, I get bored always opening my Universal (specially when it has a case on it!)!
The headset display will prevent fom doing it

Yes, I did manage to get contact name display on the SE HBH-DS970 on my 1st try.
Subsequent tries after I delete and re-install JETWware proves otherwise.
Till today I still could not get contact name to be displayed on both the SE HBH-DS970 & Nokia HS-12W
Was lucky to able to try both, see attached Pics.
I owned a Nokia & borrowed a Sony to try.
Look, Sony looks cool and smaller than Nokia
Earpiece, Sony fits very well, Nokia is a bit loose for people with bigger ears (even with the sponge)
Sound, Sony has more punch in bass but Nokia has clearer sound

Could you tell me how to install the Nokia HS-12W.jfc file? I have the Beta version installed. Thanks
How to use the Nokia HS-12W.jcf with the Jetware RC 1.20?
Is it Registry Settings to add of a file to just put in the Jetware directory in PPC?
RE
Just copy the NOKIA update to your PPC and click on it. The NOKIA settings will then be installed into JETWARE
The Nokia Update consist of only a file call ' Nokia HS-12W.jcf ' which I have copy into the directory of Jetware of both v1.11 & v1.20 and double click on ' Nokia HS-12W.jcf ' but it did not work.
Still seeing numbers instead of of ID on the Nokia HS-12W screen.
Anyone else has any luck?
I have put the "nokia HS-12W.jfc" in the Jetware folder, but when i double click it I get an error "There is no application associated with "Nokia HS-12W" ..."
Any help/ideias?
RE
I actually tested the NOKIA HS-12W with the NOKIA handphone N80 and the HS-12W worked beautifully like able to display the caller name and time too
Well, I suppose its a compatibility issue for PDA and the HS-12W

Just out of curiosity:
Was thinking of getting a bluetooth caller ID clip like the Sony HBH-200 and also another bluetooth headset like maybe a jabra bt500?
Would the Universal be able to connect to both the headsets and work well?
Just out of curiosity, would like to be able to view the caller id number but use a different bluetooth headset to answer the phone.
Sounds like a lot of work, but I figure it's better than getting the BT800 where you have to look at the number and then put the headset on.
Well, if any of you out there has got 2 bluetooth headsets, would you mind trying it out?
Thanks.
I tried it last nite and it did not work as you expected. It was a great idea though. I was using a HBH-662 (Sony ericson) with a caller ID screen, and another BT headset. Only the second BT headset rings, and the HBH-662 did not respond.
I was thinking before the same idea, but I was expecting a watch (like Casio) that can display the Caller Name via BT. If anyone knows such product (watch) exists, I would love to know.
The Casio watch is a really good idea, but have you seen the size of the watch? It's humongous.

Motorola HT820
BT800
Paired both headsets to the device.
Both devices rang on receiving a call.
With Jet software, it was able to display caller ID.
Was not able to answer the call from the HT820
Didn't try answering from the BT800
HT820 was not able to Voice Command after Jet software installation
Will test it out some more tonight.
You could just get a nokia HS-12w that way you can see who is calling without removing your earpieces !!!
I'm just being vain.
Would like to use a stereo headset without wires and also have a caller ID unit just to view the caller. Was thinking of something like the Nokia that you mention to clip on my front pocket just to view who's calling.

hi,
in another thread this is being discussed. appearently this is a "feature" not a bug anyway it is not connected to a special bt headset, but to all bt headsets (afaik)
Well...
After extensive testing, I have realized that my dreams of being vain is not possible....at least until somebody starts selling just a bluetooth caller-id display only - like the watch.
Anybody out there know of a bluetooth caller-id diplayer only besides the big ass watch?
Anyway, here's how I tested it.
Bear in mind that this is what I wanted to do.
Since I have a Universal, pulling it out and then twisting the clamshell, takes too long and it's too cumbersome to do.
So I wanted a caller-id display to display the caller-id (name preferably) without opening the clamshell and answer the phone via a bluetooth stereo headset.
Figured I test out the theory that having 2 headsets, 1 with caller-id and one with stereo where I can view the caller-id on one and answer the phone on the other one.
Tried it and true enough as posted above, it doesn't work.
Until there's a new bluetooth caller-id device out there, l8r.
You can check the new product from Cardo Systems. It's more or less the thing you want. On piece with caller ID and the normal headset.
http://www.cardowireless.com/scala750/
I am looking for some feedback on the various in car bluetooth kits that are available in the marketplace, ie the fully installed kits rather than the in ear jobbies.
I have a Pioneer head unit that offers bluetooth headset features however due to a design fault it is fecking useless, ie the mobile phone can't be within a metre of the head unit unless you are prepared for the caller to put up with terrible interference.
Admittedly for a normal phone this would be of a lesser issue as there is the facility to store numbers on the headset, but as I use a XDA Exec with TomTom, I need the pda where I can see it
I have used an in ear device in the past, but it is bloody annoying.
I have looked at the various Parrot kits, the 3000, 3100 and 3200 all of which would do the job, but I don't know how they fair in reality.
I have used a Nokia bluetooth kit, IIRC CK1W or was it CK 7W that appeared to be a litle flaky when trying to connect to the exec.
Whilst browsing eBay, I have come across these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SIEMENS-BLUET...6QQihZ008QQcategoryZ42419QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ,http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLUETOOTH-HAN...7QQihZ009QQcategoryZ80085QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTOROLA-BLUE...3QQihZ018QQcategoryZ35190QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
So does anyone use any of the above and does anyone have any recommendations?
Cheers and Happy New Year
I have been using a Sony head unit with handsfree, A2DV and AVRCP. Its been pretty good and I have no problems recommending it.

Would that be the MEX-BT5000? I'm considering getting it for use with my Wizard.
Yes, thats the one.
http://www.sony.com.au/xplod/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=22000
Hi all,
Seems the most appropriate place to post this.
I recently upgraded my headunit to the Sony MEX-BT5000. It plays CD's, MP3 CD disks, has a good tuner and and AUX in. It also supports bluetooth profiles A2DP, AVRCP, Hands-Free (HFP) and Object Push Profile (OPP - for contacts) and as is supports A2DP and AVRCP (basicically A2DP but the remote control features) you can also play music from your MP3 player, phone or whatever through the stereo. It works fine with my M3100.
The handsfree calling is good and pauses the music when in call but there are bad points which I've not managed to solve yet such as inability to initiate voice dialing from the unit, the call button brings up a Sony phone menu. It also can only store 50 contacts and doesn't automatically sync with the M3100 like my Parrot CK3100 would. This means you need to decide which 50 you want to have on there. You can assign 6 speed dials to the 6 preset buttons on the front.
The sound from this stereo is far better than my previous Sony MP3 stereo and on this alone I would recommend it to anyone. It also comes with an infrared remote which allows you to digit dial, andswer and hang-up etc alongside all the basic stereo functions.
Hope this might help someone looking to buy something similar.

Gavin.
I've had the BT5000 since January, and use it with my Wizard. Its BT performance is the best I've ever seen -- it's the best speakerphone I've ever used.
Sony also has a new MEX-BT2500 unit that's about half the price of the 5000, with all the same BT functionality plus an aux jack on the front panel.

When I experimented with a friend's Parrot unit I discovered that it didn't retrieve the contacts from my Exec, and I couldn't do voice-dialling with it. It worked OK as a hands-free speakerphone but that's about it.
Was your experience better than this? If so, is this because you upgraded your Universal's radio stack?

Sorry for the late reply.
Check the Firmware version on the Parrot. You can download the BT updater from their site, and use it to upgrade the firmware of the BT Car Kit. I had the same issue, but after upgrading to the new FW, the issue was fixed.
I have this car radio too.
Works like a champ on my iMate JasJar.

Problems Solved
I just recently got my P3300 and a nice Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970. I had a lot of problems with the original Windows Mobile 5 at first. It recognized the unit as a2dp and I set the P3300 tu use a2dp functionality of the sony headphones. NADA! Nothing happened. I could just use it as regular hands-free. Then I found this site and first upgraded mu ROM to
PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1.1.2_PowerMap.rar
I didn't like it because it was for Asian market, no localization etc. and some problems...
Then upgraded to
Tom_ART_v2.00.02_CB.rar
Brilliant!!!! Looks like WM6 and has a lot of new functionality +
working A2DP profile. Now the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 is working 100%. No bugs, no music while ringing or other problems. Just perfect!
The only disapointment - There is no Radio! In order to run the radio you must use the original hands-free. they say it is because it uses the wire as antena. I tried to hook both the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 and the original hands-free -> the sound coming only from the original. SORRY.
I read somewhere that the Nokia model has a built in Radio. So if you need the Radio go for the Nokia one. Though they say the sound from the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 is way better! If you prefer MP3's with better sound go for the Sony.
Hope this helps.
i use the nokia hs 12w and the sound quality is excellent.
Do you guys have enabled or disabled the registrykey "UseJointStereo"?
I'm using the HTC BHS100 Bluetooth together with a V-Moda Vibe. When I enable this key (value set to 1) I have superior sound quality but in jointstereo. When I disable this key (value set to 0) to achieve real stereo sound I hear a high pitch noise and the sound is far from superior but in real stereo. This really anoise (typo?) me alot and it doesn't matter whether I'm using the original earphones that comes with the bluetooth or the v-moda earphones or even my full sized dj headphones.
All in all i'm just looking for a wired solution to get the superior stereo sound but that is a problem too. Because a mini-usb to 3.5mm adapter doesn't disable the built-in speaker when listening to music (using an HTC Y cable)

Have you tried this update: http://www.europe.htc.com/support/software/htcp3300.html
HTC:
"HTC audio Drivers
Downloading and installing this driver update will provide your HTC mobile device with the latest available optimised software for use with the following accessories:
YC A120 Y-Cable adaptor
RC W100 Remote Controller
RC E100 Remote Controller"
Tried it just now but I get the message that I already have the latest drivers installed and then it ends the installation.
I'll try to put back the original rom and then install the driver to see if it makes any difference. That is if I'm able to put it back somehow (extended rom has original rom but hardreset still installs the modified rom).
Finally...after installing WM6, the device recognise the Y cable as a headset (registry automatically change value into 1) and now I can enjoy music in full stereo quality. WHOOHOO
Hi,
Is there any way to set the bluetooth stereo headset connection to default stereo? sorry about my english.
so If i connect may stereo headset to the phone the defaul is mono headset i have to go to bt settings and change the profile to stereo after that working fine, I can handle incoming calls etc. but I have to change the profile after reconection again. If I uncheck the headset and handsfree profiles then the stereo working fine but i cant handle the incoming calls from the haedset only with the phone.
so is there a solution to keep the default profile stereo and keep the other two profil in live?
it tries to you works in stereo
Quick question for anyone with a BT stereo headset - if i get a BT dongle, could i connect the headset to a PC and get voice comms via teamspeak to work? Assuming that the dongle and headset does all the A2DP and other profiles?
Basically I'm just trying to see if its feasible - It'd be nice to use the headset for music with the phone, then use it as a wireless headset for games and voice comms when at home.

Yes, and with VOIP & MSN etc. too. The headset appears in the audio properties box on windows or the app you are running.
Thanks -
Before i go and splash out on one - can you confirm a headset that will deliver quality stereo while using the mic
Virtually everywhere i've been, they say that as soon as you use the mic, it will drop down to 8khz mono for sound as it switches from A2DP to the headset one.
If you or anyone have a BT stereo headset, is there any chance you can play a normal 3D game and see if you can talk over teamspeak without it dropping to mono?

I think u need to get headset with multipoint headset if u want keep in live the phone and the PC connection same time. like jabra BT8010 or BT320s.

Heya,
for a long time i have been looking for some decent bluetooth stereo headset.
now it has come down to two models. well, actually one only
my choice: motorola s9
and the second possibility: Motorola T820
from reading the comments on amazon on those devices i realize that my phone needs to be A2DP compatible to get the best sound out of the headset.
i use s2p as music player and i know it is A2DP compatible... but is real question is: is my phone (HTC P3300 WM6) compatible with this tecnology
also: if you can suggest any other good headsets, please do so.
key features i seek:
- able to use on my phone and pc
- a2dp
- good sound and microphone quality
a2dp not working
Hi,
I have HTC artemis. I recently purchased wireless bluetooth stereo headsets (Jabra bt325)
I cannot connect it to use as wireless stereo. Its working fine as handsfree. After pairing, I cannot see wireless stereo option. Its Greyed. I know that artemis is A2DP compatible.
But i am sure that headset is fine because I tested it with n95 and it worked fine.
Please give me a solution.
Try this:
Start - settings - connections - bluetooth - and add new device
If your headset is already added, use your stylus and press on the bluetooth headset name until the following menu comes up:
Edit
Delete
Set as Hands-free
Set as Wireless Stereo
Choose no. 4
yes it is.
I'm using Dopod M700 which is the P3300 w/o the GPS module.
It works with dell BH200 BT stereo headset and also the o2 BT stereo earphones.
It works on joint stereo in WM5 and since its now running WM6.1 its real stereo.

might be a specific problem of your headset model.
i use a motorola s9 and it's quite nice. fits nice, does not disturb after hours, controls work fine, calling works fine...
BUT (and there's always a but) it has some major drawbacks i found out. while it's still nice to listen music without wires, i encounter this problems. which MIGHT be due the phone, not the headset... but i have no way to test that.
so, basicly, P3300 + motorola S9 through A2DP:
- insides works like a charm. phone in my belt, headset on. music cuality nice with some small music interrupts every now and then (maybe once per 5 minutes). phone calls nice and i can hear and they can listen me well.
but my oh my when i get on the street...
- constant music interrupts every 15 seconds. i have hang the phone around my neck so it's where my chest is to not get interrupts so often (still get one every 2-3 minutes)
- as the mic is where the ear is, if i have a call, it's impossible to hear me due the background noise. this also applies to the underground/metro. it's not that bad in a bus
and well. without A2DP enabled my music player uses so little resources the phone still works fine...
if A2DP is enabled, the phone gets REAL slow and the battery drain is MASSIVE.
when this motorola S9 break... i'll get another model to test. and when that breaks i'll probably get back to some nice wired ones (unless the CPU issues and the battery drain on the phone gets solved) ... but maybe i actually change the phone before that happens. who knows.

I had bought a couple of weeks ago a wunderful bluetooth bracelet LM 959. http://www.lm-technologies.com/ci/index.php?/products/details/38
Both, the bracelet and the Style-i want and could connect to my Ameo over the same profile (phone profile, hands-free).
I've tried a couple of days, but it doesn't run as I want:
I want that the bracelet will shake when the phone is ringing (that's normal).
And then I will accept the call with my LG Style-i. If the call finish, all should go again in stand by.
If the next call arrive, the bracelet have to shake first, and so on.
But reality is hard and bad:
If I power on the bracelet, and power on the LG iStyle the bracelet go in sleep and the LG Style-i is active connect to my Ameo. No action's could make the bracelet function, only if I power off the LG Style-i. But than I couldn't take a call (not with this brick on my ear)
I think both are using the same profile (hands-free). And only one could go in active, or ?
Is there a way to let both function, and as I want ?
I would be lucky for any suggestions.. any idea ?
I'm afraid I can't answer that with any experience, but I think the bluesoleil driver will allow connections to two devices.
When someone with more experience comes along, does anyone know if it is possible to connect two devices with different profiles.
I wish to connect my car kit (HFP) and an audio streaming connection (A2DP), to a kaiser, and keep them both connected.
ping, I want infor on this to for my ameo before I buy the bracelet!!
new status:
I've seen, that all entries in the registry between the braclet and the LG style-i are different. Not the channel entry : both are channel 0x2.
I've changed the channel from bracelet in the registry:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/Device/001b3500023b
from 0x2 to 0x1.
Bracelet connect with Ameo furthermore, but situation doesn't changed.
Now I will change the ROM from 6 to 6.1 (from original t-mobile 6 to sogarth 6.1) this weekend.
let me see ...
bad story ... sorry.
I've changed the ROM from original t-mob WM6 to sogarth WM 6.1 ROM but without any changes.
I've no solution to connect the bluetoorh bracelet AND the Bluetooth headset at the same time.
Any other idea's ?
please help ...
Not possible afaik. I personally tried it when I had two Motorola s9s and only one would connect at the same time :S.
Does anyone know if you can connect to *different* profile devices?
I want to connect a HFP device and an AD2P device.

Hello all,
I'm currently using wm6.1 build 20273.1.3.3 cook (FInixNOver v3.6) on my Trinity with iDream BTSH01 + Nokia BH-102.
The BTSH01 can act as either "Hands Free" or/and "Wireless Stereo" (A2DP).
I can select which mode I want to use on that device by using the standard "Bluetooth Settings-->Device" menu.
The BH-102 is only an "Hands Free" device.
I successfully can listen music on the iDream and make/receive calls with the Nokia.
As you may guess, my main use of these combination is on the car! the Trinity is used as my MP3 player, my GPS and my phone with ear bud, while its battery is being charged.
The BH-102 works very smooth alone! just need to power it on, wait 2-3 seconds to ear the beep and start to use it, even while receiving a call (it happens a lot while I'm driving!).
That particular cook has the BT sound volume adjustment working very well!
The BTSH01 is tricky to pair... I always have to start it in "pairing" mode and do a BT search on the Trinity (I have a button on the "Today" for that!) to have it work properly. If I not do this way, the music is shopped in 500ms pieces !!!
I can only launch the music/sound app (Mortplayer and/or GPS app) after pairing it. If not, the sound goes out through the internal speaker.
By having the BTSH01 decoding music, the HTC becomes slower (still ok for the GPS app)!
Now, combining both... I'm using both since a couple of days and I still have no procedure to have both running ok (BTSH01 as "Wireless Stereo" and BH-102 as "Hands Free") at first shot!
Sometimes the BTSH01 start to decode my calls, sometimes the BH-102 is not able to pair ... it's always been asked the PIN code.
But, once both are up, I have no more troubles and can start my trip!
i'm using an r35 itech set as handsfree...although it can be switched to include a2dp. however, i also have a sony ericsson car kit that's set for a2dp or wireless stereo. thus, when i'm in the car my u1000 automatically connects to the ericsson and thus streams the music. any calls that come i can answer through my r35. when i leave the car, the ericsson then disconnects with my u1000 (either through range or when i shut off the ignition). my r35 is continuously bonded and thus any calls are answered through it.
i don't think it's really possible to connect 2 bt devices with hands free profiles at the same time. i tried that with both my r35 and ericsson kit....if the first device bonded is my r35 a message appears on my ameo indicating an error when i try to set hands free. it only accepts wireless stereo.
cheers
I don't think so. In my opinion it's not possible. u can use stereo.
