Hi,
First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong place, a stupid question or you feel that I'm being lazy but I haven't done a flash in years and can't afford to fork out more dosh for a new handset if I brick it.
I just need someone to confirm that these steps and my understanding is correct.
My handset is a totally virgin Polaris 200 so I understand I first need HardSPL.
I have 2 links for this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351964
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375338
The latter is a newer post (thanks Olipro) so I assume that this is the best one to go for.
To perform HardSPL do this
How to install HARD-SPL! (You MUST do it first and once!)
Download Hard-spl, and unpack it to a folder.
Connect your PDA to PC, and be sure Active Sync can connect to it.
From the Hard-spl folder, run RomUpdateUtility. (push Next, Next, and Update…)
Your will see a tricolor screen on your PDA.
It will ask you to Replug your usb Cable. DO IT!
The screen will be grey, and a few seconds later hard-spl will be installed.

After that I need a cooked ROM...
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425612 and think it looks great. (thanks udK)
I assume i follow the steps below
How to install a cooked ROM.
* Put device in bootloader mode.
* Run Polaris_CustomRUU.exe and good luck.

I should then do a hard reset to finalise the flash.
If my radio doesn't work with this ROM then I will have to look for a different one that does.
I will plug in my old XP box for the flash to save any extra complications from using Vista.
Can someone please confirm if this process is correct or not.
A simple yes or no will do.
Thanks
ok i'm running Olipros unlocker.exe and all is going well.
one question though:
to flash the rom do i just execute the update program inside the same dir as the ROM
oh it's beautiful! thanks to Olipro and udK for their work. I love it!
I'm new to rom hacking, and I have a few questions to ask about it.
Btw, my ROM version is 3.09.666.1 and my radio version is 3.42.50.
1. I want to install NFSFAN's custom rom, but how? Is there any particular program I have to use or what?
2. Is there any way I can restore back to the original rom if I need to? If so, how?
3. If I just want to get service at the store (for example, changing phone numbers), would that be part of the warranty? I want to know because I don't want to reset my phone just for bringing it in.
And that's all the questions I have for now. If I have anything else to ask, I'll update the thread.
You've already upgraded your ROM so your part way there.
1. download and install imcokemans 2.31 unlocker. Follow the screen prompts exactly. It is found here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370
2. Download NFSFAN's ROM and flash it.
You should be ok for most service requests at the store. If you need to you can reflash to the stock ROM (3.09.666.10), then relock using 0.40 found in the same above thread.
Good luck,
Wait, I'm confused a little. What's this "0.40" thing?
Edit: I get it now. But how do I relock?
I opened up the program and followed the steps very carefully.
But, when it opened the update utility, I realized that I didn't put the nfsfan files into the coke folder, so I exited out, put the files in, and ran the update program through Explorer. Am I good?

The coke, or unlocker is run separate. Run NFSFAN's ROM after following the unlocking procedure.
Yeah, I got it to work anyway.
nfsfan's rom seems more stable than the original, and its heck a lot faster too.
Thanks for all your help!
Sorry everyone just trying to help out a co worker who has the mytouch and something is wrong with in not booting into android or recovery for some reason.
Right now don't have access to a pc to run the unroot method with champion build using pc but I found the production nbh from wesgarner over at androidspin following link
http://db.androidspin.com/androidspin_developer_display.asp?developerid=63#280
can I just download that using my phone to his memory card and then flash it is his device and will be like original retail device or will I have to use the other method with the pc. There was no definitive answer that just that one file would unroot or not. Just has a link that if then wants a certain build number and links to androidspin but with experiance with the g1 was just dreaimg and then back on android 1.0 did not know if this was the same or not.

As long as you didn't apply the OTA update, all you need to do is place that file on the root of your SD card, and flash it. No PC needed.
Does the ota make a change that would prevent it from working like a change in radio or anything.
Don't think the update would really matter would it? We are not sure if it had it or not. If it had the update what would have happened if it had the update? Downloading the image now gprs is soo slow lol thank you in advance.

I'm having basically the same issue. My question is how do you install Wes' files? Shouldn't there be an update.zip? Or do I rename one of the files to update.zip.
P.S. All I have access to is stock recovery. Please help.
Mine is yet still downloading. Sorry i havent tested. You should not have to rename or anything will be one file named ESPRIMG.nbh just need to be on root of sdcard and start in bootloader mode. Phone will then walk you thru everything

That link gives me the ESPRIMG.zip file.
I put it on the root of my SD and booted into hboot, it updated then gave me the typical options to go to recovery and so on. It didn't go through any process of reflashing stock expresso. I selected recovery, then rebooted.
Now I'm back stuck at the tmobile mytouch slide screen.
Sound like something didn't go right. Either you will need to re download or format card
I'm new to the process or rooting android phones, and I just purchased a T-Mobile G2. I've been searching around for a rooting procedure to follow, I found a lot of ways to do it, but some of them are either too complicated for a noob myself, or it came out couple of months ago. I wanted to know if there was a up to date rooting process, and if it would be some what easy to follow.
Check the Wiki, that is the most up to date and safest method to root your phone.
Alright, I'm trying to download all the files necessary but when I try to download "gfree_temp-root.zip" theres no file to be found, is there somewhere else I can download this file?

I just tried as well and the file is no longer there. Can someone post it to this thread?
Edit: The link in the wiki is back up.
When trying to extract contents of gfree_temp-root.zip, I get the error message cannot open file: does not appear to be a valid archive. I have tried a number of download sources. Can someone put a valid archive?
EDIT** Please ignore as it was an issue with my work environment not downloading the complete archive
I want to update to honeycomb and get one of those cool custom themes going and DELETE ALL THIS FREAKEN BLOATWARE but how do I do all that? Can anyone point me in the direction of some guides? I used the search and either found outdated or guides that just linked to other site.
Please help, thank you.
well, since you have root, an easy way is to just download ROM Manager from the market. Then just download a ROM you want to try and put it on your phones sd card. Then just tell ROM Manager to install it.
