Hi all,
My XDA IIs works well before. But few days ago the Power button doesnt work properly, it can turn on the phone, hold to turn off the back light, but I can't use it to turn my phone screen off like before. Anyone has same problem ?
Can you see any part of the screen? It might just be that the backlight adjustments are set too low when the unit isn't cradled. You might be able to see the screen in daylight.. or maybe it was inside your home. I forgot where I was at when it happened to me. In anycase, if you can see a bit of images on your screen, go into the Backlight properties and change the setting to your liking.
Good luck..
The problem is i can just press the power button to turn off my phone BEFORE (the screen is completly off), and NOW it doesnt work at all ! When my phone was off, I can press the Power button to turn it on, or when I hold it for few seconds the back light will be turned off, but press once to turn off. I dont know why, if somthing wrong with the Power button it should be doesnt work at all, that's mean i cannot turn on my phone as well. But other functions of the Power button are still work well, except the 'Turn off'
power off doesn't work anymore
I have the same problem here. I can't use the power button to power off my qtek 9090!!
i can use the power button to turn my pda on and to switch the background light on and off - so the "hardware side" of the power button is working.
however, i can't use the power button to turn off the device. it's very annoying, because i can't put it in my pocket after finishing a call :-(
this should be some sort of a software problem - so i hard resetted my device (a couple of times) - but that didn't help!
can anyone help?
thanks,
lorenz
the ba doesn't turn off it is always on staand by mode. ->settings -> system -> button lock
this will stop any missed call because when the ba is in standby the power button is the only one to work
power on is no problem. i can't put my BA into standby mode. if i press the power button while the BA is turned on, nothing will happen. the screen will stay on, the background light stays on.
i have no way to put it into stand-by with the power button!
try this and see if it works. it's a software app that wil rest, shut down, and turn the screen off. just copy it to your BA temp directory and install it.

Is your problem solved ?
Because I have the same problem.
Power of switch doesn't work !!!
Any help would be welcome.
power button problem
Does anyone solve the problem???
Had the same problem...
I had the same problem going on for about two weeks or so...never changed anything and it went away all by itself.
The problem has not come back now in over 4 months.
Sure would love to know what the problem was tho...
Greetings,
Noddy
Power Off does not work
Add my name to people with this problem.
The only event I can link it to is this: I deleted my Motorola Bluetooth headset and installed a Logitech headset. I noticed the problem (can't turn OFF with POWER BUTTON) soon after that.
same problem for me ..... someone must know !!!!
I think it is a hardware problem. The contact is not making cleanly. Disassemble and spray time, perhaps.
It's a standard push switch, easy enough to replace, I occasionally list themon ebay but any phone repairier should have them in stock.

i had same problem yesterday afternoon, but it is ok now. recovered by himself
Write again in two weeks and let us know if it is still healthy. In my case, anintermittent problem became continuous.
Can't turn the screen on after pressing power button
I have a problem with my Bell Atrix. After pressing power button to lock the screen, i can't wake up the screen up by pressing that button again. Could anyone tell me how to fix it pls.
My PDA2k seems to be turning itself off even when in use :?
I use TomTom3 in the car, and even when the power is plugged into the bottom it was turning off ever few minutes.
I just took a phone call and when I has finished talking I noticed the screen had gone blank and pressing the red handset didn't bring it back, the power button did. (I do have screen lock on).
Having said that, thinking about it, I was watching TV progs on WMP on the way home and it never shut itself off once :?:
Anyone have any idea what is going on? Is this normal?
I have an o2 XDA2 S running TomTom 3 with the TomTom cradle. I occassionally find that the pda just turns itself off.
It doesn't happen all the time.
I have also found that sometimes during a call the pda turns itself off and I cant get it back on by pressing the handset key, just the on off button.
Cheers
Fatzzz
click start>settings>system>backlight . . in here you can change the time it takes to turn off in not touched the device, 5 mins max.... also if you click button lock in system settings, you can set it so that when it happens, you can tap screen and it comes back on again.... tho i prefer to keep that off, otherwise it may ring people while it its protective case..
and going by all the software that is out for these xda's, you can prob find a programe /or hack to change it even longer if you need that!!!
But when it is on external power (plugged into the car using TT3), it shouldn't shut down at all. Aside that, when in use (when receiving a call) I wouldn't think it should shut down should it?
I have a seperate scren lock installed too. I found the built in one not enough. When it is in my belt pouch and I get a text, or connect to my BT car kit or something, it wakes it up. All of a sudden all the keys are being pressed (by the squeeze of the case) and all kinds of applications are opening!
Guys, need help... can't figure out if it is a soft or a hard problem...
Have had SX66 for 3 years. Almost never a problem (except for occasional thing when people could not hear me, I could hear them, but after soft reset that thing usually corrected itself).
However, just recently got a real problem.
- Can't power it off. Power buttom only works on powering on, but not on powering off.
- At the same time, the volume window pops up (with two volume sliders, "on", "vibrate", and "off), and the left slider automatically slides down on its own, preventing me from accessing anything else. When I try to do something else, go to Programs, or else, this freaking Volume window keeps popping up, and left slider keeps going down and stays down there.
When I try to increase volume, it keeps going down right after I raise it. And the volume window is almost constantly popped up.
From time to time, it disappears, allowing me to do something for several seconds or even minutes, but then pops up again.
Yesterday, I even managed to do something for several minutes without it, and even managed to turn SX66 off, although I had to press the button for a second longer than usual to turn it off. Today, no luck, can't power it off. If I press it for a bit longer, it just goes in "dimmed" screen mode, but stays powered on.
Any advice?
Thanks.
I guess, I'll have to try to clean the power button and volume slider on the side. Looking for good disassembly instructions. Found one, but more would be appreciated...

I have the same problem. I was starting to think that there is no way to turn of BA . Any help?
I have the same problem, only that mine is a HTC touch dual (niki).
the volume screen keeps popping up, and does a "volume down" command... sometimes it goes away, sometimes it comes back...
:S
Ive got a similar problem ive upgraded my BA to wm 6.1 (Xplod) the problem that i am having is that i cant seem to power it off..only way that im able to do that is by removing the battery..when i keep the power button pressed only the backlight turns off but no the phone..How to i power it off?
and secondly ive a problem with the keyboard..while writing some times i press a key and it keeps typing that for example i write s it keeps writing ssssss or giving spaces untill i press something else...is this a software issue or a hardware issue..cant seem to figure it out
I know this thread has been a while but if anyone has the same problem, you'd probably be interested about what i did.
well i had the same problem of the volume going down by itself and the volume icon pops which basically lets you do nothing.
tried all the approaches thinking it was a software issue. but i finally went nuts and took my torx screwdriver, opened the blue angel and tore off the part in the motherboard where the outer volume lever is attached to.
It worked.
So if you could with the fact you wont a direct volume adjustment at the side, you could probably try it
Would it be possible to configure our Rhodiums to wake from sleep mode upon a quick double tap on the screen? If possible it could be set that only a double tap (one tap followed by another no longer than half a second later for example) would wake the device to ensure accidental knocks in our pocket wouldn't wake it.
Any ideas?
Thanks
anyone any ideas?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this isn't possible without seriously jeapordizing battery life, so it wouldn't be something plausible.
Consider that what you're asking means your device will always have to monitor the screen and thus never enter standby mode.
Perhaps you should look into applying the registry fix that will wake your device on any key press (not just the power button). Maybe that will work for you as well, while still letting your device go into standby.
What is wrong with the built-in power button again?
I would like that also (different button to turn on). With the diamond the centre round button would be a better button to turn on the pda than the current power button (which is a little too far recessed for my liking) The centre button is larger but recessed also which would stop accidently turning in on in your pocket.
Link to previous thread regarding pressing any key to wake...

yeah thats a fair point, ddn't think too much about the implications of it having to perhaps always be awake!

Nothing wrong with the power button, just thought itd be a cool feature to be able to do that, but ill stick with whats best!
I think HTC's placement of the power button is perfect. I've been using smartphones and PDAs for a while and that's just the natural spot I EXPECT a power button to be. In fact with my breif stay with a Blackjack II I kept hitting the power button to dim the screen, which on that phone would actually turn it off, like off off.
And as stated above, when your phone goes into standby, the screen turns off, it can't detect anything. In order to keep the sensor on, you would be draining power when your phone really shouldn't.
I'll throw my coin in the hat of "silly idea"
My first Tilt 2, which had a dud microphone, the power button was fine.. It was recessed but easily pressed. My current Tilt 2 I have to press holding the phone longwise.. if I'm holding the phone on the sides I can't press the power button... I'm thinking the screen moves slightly more or the button is more recessed. It's kind of annoying.
Personally I'd also like not have to use the power button all the time myself, although I wouldn't want to tap to do it.. One of the four hardware buttons would be just fine.
Yes, I know sliding and removing the stlyus turn it on too, neither thing I do often.
Hi all,
does anyone sometimes have to press the power button (when phone is completely turned off) twice (2 presses to turn on) sometimes?...
so just to confirm
- handset is off
- push power button once (sometimes doesnt come on
- push for second time (and powers up)
im defiantly pushing for long enough
iv have no issues with the button at all when in the UI or when locking/unlocking display
iv done a few tests where i have turned off. then went to switch on, with the same pressure and sometimes it starts with one, sometimes it starts with two presses,
do u think this is a fault? anyone experience this? normal?
just checking...
thanks heaps!
I had the opposite on my first one. When I pressed the power button to turn screen off, the screen went black for 1 sec and jumped back on lock screen.

I don't think many people would turn their phone completely off so haven't found the issue.
When you power off what will be happening is the phone is off as much as it can be, but these buttons are soft off, the battery is still connected and some power must be drawn to run the power circuitry to detect the button being pressed again to signal to power back up the phone, in the same way when you turn your TV off by the remote, power is still drawn to run the remote sensor on the TV.
To keep the drain on the battery as low as possible so the battery isn't completely discharged over months of storage I suspect the power chip waiting for the on signal again is only sampling every so often to save power so it can be in super deep sleep state. This means depending on where in this cycle you are when you press the power button it might seem like it isn't responding, so typically you have to leave it depressed long enough for it to be "seen".
The better option is to just to put your phone into flight mode if you don't want to be disturbed or want the phone off. I do this overnight and lose no battery power by the morning, so it is as good as off. You can add a button to your home screen to do this quickly, widgets are included already for that.
Regards
Phil
Mine does the same thing.. Sometimes it does it with waking up from sleep also.
