WHen I'm driving my car at night the flashing lights, on my Blue Angel are very off putting.
If it possible to disable the Blue (Blue tooth LED) and Green signal LED, but still have Blue tooth and us the phone?
To turn off the Blue LED from coming on with Bluetooth go to:
1. Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/BWLEDMGR
1a. Change the Index value below it to "0" it is currently set to "1
Soft Reset and the Blue LED will not turn on.
Here is a revised procedure for turning the Green LED off. Cabrio came up with this.
2. To keep the Green LED from flashing or coming on at all go to
Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/NLEDMGR leave the dll name as NLEDMgr.dll
2a. Change the Index value below it to "0" it is currently set to "1".
This seems to completely shut off the LED and keeps it from getting called up.
Make sure you soft reset after making the reg. change.
Do this at your own risk.
I am working on a proggie that will allow you to turn off the LEDs at will, and also turn them back on.
Stay tuned...
OMG the *flashing* is so annoying.
It can be on or off (I dont care) just wtf does it have to flash?
Agreed in the strongest way. LEDs as OEM have delivered the device are terrible. I don't like to sleep with a police car in my room! LED should be entirely user conifigurable as to what solid or blinking means or if they are used at all. The registry changes above seem to work fine for me. It would be ineresting to know what other values for these registry entries do (if anything)
Any new info on this subject?
The only ones who like it in my house are my cats, and i like me sleep to much to let it continue
Yes if you change the Registery Settings, as described above it all works
One solution:
Use tweaks2k2.Best software having abt 92 safe and reliable registry tweaks. It has the option of turning on/off leds, also increasing the keyboard light time

thanks! you forgot to mention the link to the program
www.tweaks2k2.com/downloads.htm
Version 3.6.0 released today includes part of the trick for HTC Magician.
hey happygoat, hows ur program coming along?
Actually this technique listed (registry hack) only partially works.
I noticed to my rather large annoyance that it started flashing again while I was sleeping. There are other times when its start flashing as well, eg if you disconnect ActiveSync in progress.
This is unbelievable! Removing the LEDs cut my time to connect to the WLAN from turn on in half, from 12 to 6 seconds! Most of it seems to be that it starts connection attempts almost at once. Also the range is improved! Anybody know how this is possible?

has anyone tested the battery life?
Not me. That's not one of my concerns. But I can say that the unit is also a lot more responsive when turned on. It has annoyed me that the first 5-10 seconds I couldn't do much with it. Now it's ready for use at once! This one is the best tweak I have seen so far.

I definately think its coincidence. Anyway its easy to test, just change the registry back and do a timed test.
I wish i could... I can get the GPRS LED light up again, but the BT LED is dead no matter what I do. Anyway, I did at least 20 tests two days ago (before I changed the LED thing yesterday, because of another thread I started here about long connection times), and it was around 12 seconds every time. Now it's around 6 every time, and I haven't made any other changes to the unit.
For the love of god how do I turn this flashing light off???
The registry hacks dont work well enough, the right green LED still flashes in certain cases

I believe that you are talking about Notifications. Well, that's a LED that works different. It's easy to turn off but it will go on the next time you have any notification event. BTW, I believe that in Sounds and Notifications in settings you can turn off this LED in some events.
I could give you a little program that I did form my internal use so you can check what I'm talking about (Notification LED going ON in any notification event no matter if it has been turned off by any other external program).

There is no place in notifications to turn off the flashing LED. Although I think u are right about it being the problem...
This works in my hx4700, but I don't know if this is what you are asking for.
How do you turn that darned green flashing light to show that the phone is "ok"? It's honestly so annoying. I'm sure theres some sort of registry tweak out there, but I can't find anything.
Any help? My friend's blackberry all he has to do is go to a simple menu, and turn it off. So simple, why does it gotta be so hard for us Dash users?

This has been asked before and as of now there's not a reg tweak to disable the led light, and you shouldn't go comparing the Dash to a crapberry! we don't hear of a lot of people being bothered by the tiny led light here . Maybe you should get some black nail polish and paint over it!. JK.
So I can't seem to figure out why the Soft Touch Button are on, or mostly not on on the One X.
In a dark room they are not usually on, run some app or open something on the phone and they seem to activate.
Anyone else getting this??
They should activate/deactivate depending on the amount of surrounding light.
Tested it myself, with a flashlight on the phone the lights went of. When I removed the flashlight and back in the dark, the lights turned on.
Yes, I got the same result as Foggy79. I just want to know if I can turn if off manually?
Probably not (maybe with a custom ROM, but I doubt that)
I wanna know how to turn them off. When watching a video in the dark.... they stay on, when they should turn off when video is being played full screen.

Use this Rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625816
With PKMN Tweaks integrated in this rom, you can control soft key led back light :
* Always on
* Always off
* Turn on when the dim light, turn off when strong light

would rather not go flashing roms to get this.
And how would the tweak help? either it's always on, always off or the last option which would keep the lights on under dim conditions.
What they need to do is add a timeout. like on the Galaxy series phones. 2 seconds or 7 seconds. then it shuts off, when you touch the screen it turns on again.
It's just bad designing and/or programming.

That'sa great idea, which I can't believe I didn't think of. I have been having the opposite problem: the soft key lights always stay on. However, when I held up the phone to a bright light, they turned off. So, they are working.
Still, it takes a really bright light to achieve this; I wish I could fine tune the behavior. I tried an app that stated it would control the keys but it did not work (and my phone is not rooted).
I also see in ancola66's post that the custom ROM allows automatic dimming only in "strong light," so apparently the behavior I am seeing is normal. I wish it would take less strong light to activate dimming/off as my lights never seem to go off, as I stated.
Thanks for these informative posts.
Reading in bed with Aldiko
It mostly annoys me when I'm reading in bed with Aldiko. Aldiko is a great reading app that lets you adjust the lights the phone emits to the lowest possible, so I can read in the dark without disturbing my wife.
However, on this phone I have the keys glaring in my eyes, way brighter than the letters of my book.
I wish I could switch them off somehow.
I thought the soft lights will only turn on when phone is in dark place? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Exactly.. That sucks when lying in bed reading next to your beloved.. It should only light when touching the screen like the s3..I don't need those lights when I sit and read a book or something

There are ways to disable them. Mostly(maybe a must) if you are ROOTED.
Apps that ppl said that were able to shut them off were screenfilter or how its called. Search through the forums here.
Or you can edit the framework-res file to disable them on sense roms. If Interested I will search it from here somewhere.
Or for CM check my signature (there are 2 lines, not the one about the UV...)
They annoy me too. I recently began watching some videos in bed (streaming from desktop) because I temporarily gave away my laptop. They are very bright in the dark, I wish there was an option to turn them off permanently (yes, I know it's possible with custom ROMs, but I'm still not ready to root yet).
Also, the display is still too bright for my taste - lowest brightness should be lower. Although it's pretty good compared to other screens. In my opinion, the lowest brightness is also very important, just as max. brightness.
Is there a way to disable the charging indicator light? It is BLINDING in the dark. The green is a lot worse than the orange too. I know you can change when the light is enabled for notifications like mail/calendar/etc, but I can't find a setting for the charging.
I've got a status bar and a battery widget to see if it's charging. I don't need an LED that blinds me.

I don't know what to tell you, but if that light blinds you, you must have the night vision of a cat. I can't imagine driving down the road at night with your eyes. On that note, good luck to you.

Haha I had an EVO I think it was at one point that was the same way. I have great night vision...and I don't eat *that* many carrots, so I'm not sure. I'm not usually overly sensitive, but I swear that little pin sized light is ridiculous bright.

You're correct, that light is extremely bright, especially as green. I put my phone on the charger last night, and it finished charging while I was laying in bed but not asleep, and when the green came on, it was like night turned into day. The ceiling lit up like a flashlight was aimed at it. When I get a notification and don't feel/hear the vibrate/noise, the light is quite capable of letting me know I get one.

I just submitted a "support" e-mail to HTC and I'm sure they'll say that you can't disable it because people need to know if their phone/charger aren't working. Yeah, that's what the notification bar and widgets are for if you want them. I had to root an EVO to disable the light on that one too, which is entirely lame. I mentioned that the e911 GPS indicator is both unnessary and annoying as well. This is the kind of stuff that drives me to root a phone (not that I can unlock it at the moment because I didnt' get my phone before they locked down the htc dev site), but once there's a root option for me and if I can configure these...I'll do it for that sole purpose.
Ugh.

Ok, so their response from support was to use "Light Manager" which doesn't work (at least non-rooted) as far as I can tell.
Response from them:
I totally understand where you are coming from on this, as I know how important is to have a phone that fully meets your needs.
In this case, you can use a 3rd party application, which will disable this feature from your device. You can check them at google play store.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=light manager
I recommend you verify other user’s comments and rating, that way you choose the best option for your requirement. Please keep in mind that HTC does not support or warranty 3rd party hardware or software and its usage is at your discretion.
I apologize for any inconveniences you may have experience, our main goal is to provide you with the greatest devices and an spectacular HTC experience. I will address your suggestions to the proper department; I can not assure you it will be implemented however we take them to account and appreciate the time you took to contact us.
I look forward to assist you further in case it is needed.
I spend a lot of time at home, and should naturally rest my phone on its dock, but there appears to be no way to prevent it front brightly shining the time at all times, and with no movement, given that every amoled screen owned gets burn in after 6 months.
It Apparently goes off at night hours but not when you're room is pitch black and asleep still at 11am.
Is there any way to turn off the clock, where it just comes on for notifications and a tap to the screen to see the display light up with time
It made my Google home which came with the device pointless, clashing with the phone itself, but at least it makes use of the Ambeient didpsay, and in pitch black the clock is only just visible (even if it is lcd)
while the phone is on the dock, tap the top right corner to access the settings. then click the option for "Screen off when dark"
thank you
I'd say how hard was that to find after lots of reading, but as we know whilst Google has the tech they can lack in intinuity.
I was about to unplug the £60 useless device. The fact I had to ask a knowledgeable user for info speaks volumes. Granted, it'll have a bright glowing unneccrsary day time on when day docked, meaning forced not to use. But at least in darkness it will stop burning the screen out whilst the free home display will keep the time if I need to glance rendered so beautifully that it's only visible in darkness after your eyes have adjusted.
Just wondering if enabling ambient lighting, whilst disabling what you said, would lower the oled clock to almost darkness, whereby not an issue.
Whilst not perfect, your advice means at least I can use the Dock provided I don't use or for long periods during the day, which I won't.
Can't believe how u intuitive that setting icon popped up when pressing in an open blank space.
Thank you.
_____
Second, surely, or I guess not, docking can't enable smart unlock which then enables you to your example say 'hey Google morning', turning on all lights, heater, music, and needing to be unlocked, unset "do not disturb"
I can't just yet think of any owner intrusive questions to ask, and hence I've subsequently (for those in my situation), found a toggle to stick on 'silent mode' when docked.
The remaining issue is having both Google home display and stand in the same room. At one point the ovine did the actions and now the home display does.
Saying 'ok google, goodnight' , turns all my lights and heater off, a weather and travel to work summary, and asks what time to wake up, then plays an entire hour long of sleepy music. I'm happy the home hub does it, but it sets its own as alarm whist my phone doesn't set. I then cant find any way of adjusting the length of the sleep music. When it was thru the phone it allowed you to change the sleep music type (but not duration). The home display appears to not allow either.
Also, can anyone reccomend a smart life (and hence goggle home compatible) relay box to insert between my mum's immersion heater 'on' light switch style plug. She's downsized to an apartment, which has one of when old immersion tanks that it's purely for hot water (washing dishes and shower), whilst the heaters are electric.
We can't seem to find a way of programming it and it seems silly keeping it on 24-7, when it's likely to just be turned on from 5am-7am. Then 5pm-9pm. Adding a smart live breaker to schedule and turn on /off via Google play would be great
Thanks in advance.
Ps last unrelated question, I'm guessing the memory management issue has been fixed still, as everything constantly refreshes, unlike my pixel 2xl,pixel 1,and nexus 6p lol lol lol
Thanks in advance
