Help with digitizer please...... - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi all.
I cracked my digitizer... so went online and bought another one. Now before i make a mess of this and ruin the phone, i have got the whole LCD unit off the phone, but the contacts from the new digitizer seam a little different from the one on there... I have taken a pic of the current LCD with the part numbers so you can see what i currently have, and the one i bought is this link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260013588897
Now also, how do i get the digitizer off the LCD, and get the contacts out from under all that orange stuff?? do you just peel the orange stuff back?
Heres some pics that may help.. Any help would be greatly appreciated

You've got the wrong digitiser. Your screen looks toppolly with the wide ribbon connector and the new touchscreen looks like it is made for sony with a narrow ribbon connector. You can slice the ribbon to open the tracks to make it fit but it is very fiddly.
It also looks like you don't have a frame around the new digitiser which means removing the old one and sticking the new one to it before soldering.
Richard

Hi Richard
Thanks for that. I have got back in touch with the guy in HK, and he has the other one, so im gonna swap it.
In regards to the frame, is this the metal frame around the outside? Do you have to solder the contacts on the ribbon to the LCD?
Im not quite sure how to attach the new digitizer

I have done a digitizer replacement. The soldering work can be tricky. What I did was cut the orange ribbon on the new digitizer short by about 1cm, then extend the traces with 22ga magnet wire (from radio shack in USA) and then solder the extentions to the contacts on the main ribbon. Covered with electrical tape then restuck the metal shield on top of that. Works fine several months now. Be very careful when unsoldering the old digitizer from the contacts, rip one of those out and you will have big problems. Sorry no pics but it was delicate work and I dont feel like tearing the IIS apart and risking a malfunction.

[Q] Need some advice please - HTC TOUCH PRO 2 T-MOBILE

Hello,
I have a HTC touch pro 2 and I removed the sticky thing (looks something like below)

I did this to fix the "oil spill of death" which made my digitiser unresponsive anyways... thats a different question...
I removed it and now it is all dirty and covered with gunk - its no good coming back on my screen. So without it my phone works and here are my options:
A) Buy a new sticker off ebay for $22
B) Dont buy a sticker, but use my full mirror screen protector instead.
I just dont know the role of that sticky thing. Could someone please help me out?
Cheers!
Okay, you need that sticky thing, because it's your touchscreen!
Without it, your phone is very hard to use.
Just get one of ebay, stick it onto your phone connecting the cable, and it should work again.
Thats the first layer of your screen!
Can you send me the ebay link
Hi
Hi,
Well my touch screen works fine without it. Its not on ebay (by itself) but I can buy a digitiser that comes with the sticker.
I dont know what to do.
Thanks
Well, then you probably haven't pulled off the complete digitizer. It should have a connector to it. If it hasn't, you only pulled off the top layer. Either way, you should replace it, because if something happens to your phone now, it is unprotected.
Thanks steyn_e I think your probably right!
That is pretty special, i havent seen anyone before who hade just half of his digitizer pulled off.
Good luck with repairing it.
Steyn
yeah thanks.
i chose not to buy a new digitiser because the sticker is not sold seperately, I guess a screen protector PLUS a hard case will do the job. If I buy a new digitizer, I have to peel off the sticker...... or replace the digitiser. I dont want to get messy so ill take the easy n cheap option

[Q] Which Screen to use to fix my cracked Evo?

So I first cracked my Evo's screen in January, but it wasn't such a big deal since I could still use the phone just find. Then two weeks ago took my phone to Jamaica and dropped my phone on a concete floor. Now it's cracked even worst and the touchscreen stopped working. So do I just need to replace the digitizer or the lcd? And which website should I get the digitizer from (or lcd :/)?
Ebay at $12.98 plus free shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-TOUCH-SCREE...aultDomain_0&hash=item4aaac3e980#ht_605wt_973
Amazon at $15.98 plus around $4.00 for shipping: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00427PUMK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1M0J6UC9S4O6R
I trust Amazon, but never bought anything from Ebay before. Yet I like Ebay's price.
Also, In the photos you'll noticed my Evo is plugged in charging but there's no notification light. Idk what's up with that.
First crack in January

Just taken w/ screen off
Screen on
Go with a digitizer that has many positive reviews because i got a digitizer with a hardware issue and it pressed itself all the time which made my phone pretty much unusable. But my digitizer did come with all the tools i needed.
Make sure you go to the durapower global site and purchase the HTC EVO 4G Digitizer Adhesive as youll need it to put the new digitizer on. Be patient with it because at first it will seem like its not double sided sticky. I reccomend taking off the more difficult side first because i did it the opposite way and had to cut some adhesive off kus i got dirt on it
When taking the digitizer off make sure u heat it up really good with a hairdryer or heat gun. and then very carefully peel it up with a pry tool starting at the top. I did not do this when i replaced mine and ended up breaking the lcd so you want to be super careful.
So I ordered the one from Ebay on Wednesday and FINALLY got it this afternoon (longest wait ever!). It took me nearly 4 hours to replace it. In case anyone want to know for in the future, the hardest part is separating the glass from the LCD. That part alone took me about 3 hours. Ended up that I was doing it completely wrong. I had to use a hairdryer and a flathead screw driver to separate it. And I just used the same adhesive to put the new touchscreen in.
So now the only problem is touchscreen isn't responding. I'm hoping it's just a loose cable. Also, the screen I got from Ebay looks used, fyi.

UPDATE: disassembling & replacing lcd screen/digitizer

has anyone attempted to disassemble the arc yet, i friend just bought his (after breaking infuse screen) and broke this 1 too...the touch screen on top if fine the lcd panel itself is torn/cracked was wondering if any1 has tried to take it apart yet..google didnt help.
btw had to order a replacement screen from hong kong..not available in u.s yet
cant be done. Must buy the lcd + digitizer together. I tried separating the digitizer from screen and ended breaking the lcd. It just showed up black and nothing else.

srry i meant hows the process for dissambling the phone..i ordered the screen+digitizer from hong kong..i replced the screen/digitizer on the infuse 4g and tht also came with the led/digitizer pre-assembled...but i was wondering if theres a guide on how to take the phone apart...it cost my boy almost 800 and dnt wanna be responsible for fukkin it up
Sent from my s#ift (drunk) using XDA App
I've done it myself after I lost my Arc on the pavement. It's not that hard really. It took me an hour or so to complete the exchange. The hardest part is splitting the screen and backframe (or what it's called) from each other. There are lots of clipses holding this beast together.
But it can be done
Lol an hour sounds time consuming...on a side note tho the design of it seems flawed. my friend sat on it with the phone in the back pocket. i do this with all my phones and never had a screen issues...i think the curved back may have bent the screen more than my friends fat a$$
sent as pixels travelling on an invisble superhighway!! via XDA App on the s#ift
UPDATE: finally got the screen from hong kong for 66$, it was easy to take apart, actually 1 of the easiest ive taken apart so far. the motherboard chip set separates easily from the front housing holding the lcd and digitizer, theres also a guide available on how to disassemble it on xda. thinking about getting my own arc now...hmmm

[Q] How do i know if ribboncable or digitizer is broken?

My touchscreen on the htc desire Z has stopped working, but buttons, trackpad and screen works. Is there any way to find out wich part is broken?
I´ve taken it apart and the ribboncable LOOKS Ok, but i dont know.
The screen has som marks on it.
When the problem startet, it stopped working sometimes when i had the keyboard out, so my guess its the ribboncable
any help?
Is there anyway to check this on my own?
trial and error? i have a spare (and am having a similar issue) im about to replace my ribbon with the one i know is good, if this dosent work ill get a new digitizer. of course my experience wont necessarily be the same for you. but ill say i bought a g2 off ebay that only the bottom half of the digitizer worked, zero from the middle of the screen up. all the soft buttons were fine and there was no marks on the screen. a new digitizer fixed that.

I had to buy a ribboncable from ebay but the shippingcost is 39usd... Thats why i don´t want to buy both the digitizer and ribbon because i cant fint anyone who has both :/
but i hope its the ribboncable, it has to be when the screen stopped working when i used the keyboard, and worked again when i closed it. right?
Hello again, i changed the ribboncable, and it all worked
BUT.
I had to open it again because the flash stopped working, and the second time i opened it, i broke these ribboncables for the keyboard.

Questions for somebody who has already opened a Nexus 5X (or similar) before

Hello. Some weeks ago I sent my Nexus 5X to the technical assistance with the problem I described here https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/brick-apparently-reason-t3680715. Now they told me that they won't repair it under warranty because they found traces of liquid/oxide inside it, so they are sending it back to me unfixed. Now I find this odd because the only encounters it has made with water were in the form of small quantities dropped on the screen (the amount you can drop by moving a glass in the air too quickly) which I dried immediately and the symptoms seemed to point to a bad contact. Anyway the repair center provided an image in which seems that actually some liquid has made it inside the case, but I can't recognize which part of the phone it is. Here's the image:

So the questions are: which is the part in the photo? Do you have an idea about how could have a liquid made it inside the phone (I think that is unlikely that it was by dropping something on the screen)? Do you think that the problem I experienced is compatible with a water-induced short circuit or any other damage by liquid?
Thanks in advance for your answers and explanations
I actually thought that was a picture of the shipping box before I read your post. I took mine apart to where I could pull the motherboard off, and there definitely wasn't blue tape holding something down. The only thing I can think of is that is maybe the back of the screen. Which would be after pulling the metal frame off.
Check out these pictures. If you go all the way toward the end steps, you can see you get all the way until there is mostly the metal frame inside the plastic and stuck to the back of the display without seeing anything that looks like your picture.
Their picture honestly seems to be an entirely different phone. But of course they may have changed assembly and parts at some point. I would take it apart when you get it back, take pictures and if nothing looks like the picture they sent, see if you can appeal or whatever. Maybe you can just point to the 3rd party teardowns and ask them to point out where they claim the picture is from.

I think it's under the battery, the blue part looks like the battery adhesive but it's normally black,
It was was to get behind there it would of had to enter via the simcard
