I just bought an SX66 and discovered that it has been locked by AT&T. I currently have a SIM card from Singular but when I plug it in, the phone informs that I need to unlock the code. :?:

Hello, this is a great site. I was wondering the following:
I have [email protected] service and sim.
I just purchased a cingular sx66.
My friend has an [email protected] sx66 (he works in moble computing in my company and we do biz with ATT)
If I got his rom and put in my phone, would the phone work?
Would it still need unlocked?
Thanks!!
A device that is SIM locked will remain SIM Locked untill its unlocked.
SIM Lock insures that you keep the same SIM in the device thus it is locked and other sims will not work on that device
A new rom will not change the SIMLock state but could make your device more stable.
Thanks for the quick reply! So I basically am going to have to cough up 40 bucks then I guess.
The Cingular SX66 may be unlocked. Try your AT&T SIM. It may work...
I was pretty much in the same situation, bought a SX66 from the Cingular store, and put in my old AT&T SIM. Works fine... may need to adjust mMode settings for GPRS data.

that is if your sx66 is bought some time back, the earlier batches of sx 66 from cingular were not simlock. all the subsequent releases were.
Yes, I've read that also. Must have got lucky, bought mine two weeks ago.

Ok, here is a problem with unlocking my Cingular 8125.
When I signed up for Cingular Wireless in May, their customer rep. promised me to give me the sim unlock code after 3 months. At that time, I had another cell phone # active, which was registered with AT&T wireless long time ago. In August, I called Cingular to request the unlock code. They delivered the promise. Then I tried the code using my AT&T sim card. It worked. This sim card didn’t work in my 8125 before I was given the code. After the unlocking trial, I was assuming that the phone was fully unlocked. Then, I used my friend’s T-Mobile prepaid sim card to test my phone. It didn’t prompt a screen at all to enter unlock code. The phone just kept searching network. BTW, I updated the firmware in August too. The ROM version is 2.25.11.1 WWE.
Then I came to this website for a solution. I downloaded lokiwizMSL 0.3, connecting my 8125 with PC, running the program without a sim card in the phone and getting a code in the DOS screen. One surprising thing to me is that the unlock code I got is the same as the one given by Cingular in August. I was puzzled. Anyhow, again I was testing my 8125 with my friend’s T-Mobile prepaid sim card. There was no screen popping up to let me enter any code. After being turned on, the phone went straight to Today screen, again keeping searching network!!! lokiwizMSL 0.3 didn’t work for me!!!
What in the world is the problem here? Can anyone, specialist or expert, help me out with this issue??? I will travel to Asia in 3 weeks. I really want to use local sim card for my Cingular 8125 there!!!
Thanks for your help in advance!!!
Same problem with T-Mobile pre-paid SIM
I have the same problem as e_Walker.
I have just purchased a pre-paid SIM for travels in Germany. When I put in the SIM it just looks for a network and never finds one. I would have expected a screen to pop up to ask me for the PIN1 but it never does.
I used Lokiwiz2b to unlock my phone. I also upgraded to
IPL 2.26
SPL 2.26
GSM 02.25.11
ROM version: 2.26.10.2
ROM date: 6/7/06
Radio version 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: 2.26.10.105
Has anyone else been able to use pre-paid SIMs? Does one have to enter a PIN number? If I do, will it forget my standard cingular PIN (I don't know where I kept it...)?
Thanks!
If TMobile where you are is like it is here in New England, you don't have service anyways... No need to try a TMO chip...
Turns out it was an operator problem - took them over 36h to activate the card (they said it would take 30min)
So lokiwiz works!
I have a h6315 tmobile locked phone purchased from ebay. It came with an unlock code. It wont unlock. I called tmobile, they sent me the official unlock code which matches the one given to me with the phone. Here are the steps I've been doing for 1 month to try to get it to work on cingular.
I've tried, using a live cingular 64k sim.
Unlock Error: your phone is not ready for unlocking
(h6315 wont work with 64k sims supposubly)
I've tried, using a live tmobile sim.
Picks up signal and works.
Unlock Error:unlock code not accepted
Had friend call tmobile, got unlock code. Same code as before.
I've tried flashing the rom with 1.00.38eng.
Put tmobile live sim in.
Unlock Error:unlock code not accepted
I bought a 32k cingular sim. Activated it. It works on other phones.
Unlock error:your phone is not ready for unlocking.
Does anyone have any ideas what else to do? I've read that some of the h6315 will never unlock. I guess I might have found the needle in the haystack.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanx!
I bought a r800at off of amazon and am still waiting for a SIM card from straight talk. I tried an old (5 Years) non active SIMand it was not recognized ("No SIM" on top) I went to sam's club and they gave me a new non active SIM card same result. My question is do the SIM card have to be active to be recognized or should it "see" the card but say no service. I will not receive the card for a couple of days but I want to start the return process as soon as possible. Thanks for the consideration.
Your r800at might be carrier lock to att. Which means no simcard would work other than att you have to pay for the unlock. Or take the r800at to nearby att tore and have them unlock the device for you.
