What would happen if... - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello.
I got a HTC Feeler running WM 2003 SE. I was wondring what would happen if i copyed the rom to an SD memorycard, and then replaced the OS with the OS from a HTC Tornado?
i know i would have to recalculate the checksums and stuff, but would it work ? i know the size of the Tornado rom i larger, but i don't know if that would have an effect?

rather confused

i'm about to buy a new pda+phone but i have some difficulty in choosing
what device to buy : either QTEK2020i or Qtek9090 .......
the main difficulty is due to the Rom of the 9090 beeing 64Mb while that
of the 2020i beeing stated as 128Mb .
is it possible with both phones to upgrade later to windowsmobile2005 due to the difference of the rom.....?
please help i'm planning to buy the device next week.......
the only info about 2005 on those devices have been from imate who say it will never happen
rom is where the os is and the normal rom cant be used for anything
ram is what you want are you sure you dont mean ram ?
less confused
i'meant that if after all i'll buy the 9090 and if the windowsmobile update will be possible ......
{i will buy the ramcard 512Mb card with the phone {seperately}}
i think the rom carries the operating files or not and the largest the rom the
more the upgrade will be possible or not ?
i'm still using my p900 and don't know much about the qtek ..........
also i want to ask where the windows mobile files are installed on rom or on ram inside the phone ....?
finally i choose 9090
ok then i will buy the qtek9090 this week thanks for your help ....... :?
well roms have to be made specialy for a device so
roms made for the device will always fit the rom size
if devices with more rom size will include more stuff then i guess
that rom size matters
if 2005 will ever come for these device i dont know
but then guess you can live without it if you really need to

Custom ROM for FSC LOOX 720 / HTC Bali - WM5/6

Hello, I know that my LOOX 720 / HTC Bali is "only" PDA , but this might be the right place to ask.
I spent some time now looking over the internet trying to find any solution to upgrade my FSC Loox 720 to WM5 (or WM6 ) but it seems there's no ROM available for this PDA. Since it is manufactured by HTC, I thought there might be way, how to upgrade it manually with customization of some other ROM for some other (P/X/M)DA.
Hence the question is: Can it be done? And then, how it can be done?
I believe there's many people around the net, who would be glad to have their 720 updated, not only me. Thanx for any suggestions or any other help..
Have you found anything yet?
Same question from me.
My 720 have a realy nice hardware, only thing I am missing is WM5 or 6.
Everything is lost when the power goes emty. :-(
sigurdi
Anyone please help
I have also a lot of friends who have Pocket Loox 720 and would liked to upgrade their machines into at least WM5.
Thanks in advanced
still nothing guys?
nope it seems that the 720 is way to unique in terms of hardware components - one can not simply adapt an OS image from another PDA...
There's another thread on this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378054
Can i oficial/unofficial to upgrade fsc loox 720 rom ?

Any news about this from "Masters of cooking" ?
Maybe this will ring a bell somewhere: compare tech. specs of Loox 720 and HTC Universal. Very similar. HTC Uni has built-in phone but, as far as I understood, radio module is in charge for the phone and it is not integral part of the ROM itself.
If I knew more about all this stuff, I would try to flash HTC Uni ROM to my Loox720. Or, if I find another one cheap, I will sacrifice it "for the good of the mankind"
Hmm, I think there is no chance for the Loox 7xx.. :-(
if we found a Hard-SPL solution, then we can porting some older WM5/6 OS from other devices (Loox N Series)... But I have never seen an SPL. Maybe someone can tell us about the ROM memory area, so we can try self.. But I don´t know where :-(

Hi!
I think we can make a rom if we use mkrom or er2003edit and swap
some files. I have installed er2003edit and the update of FuSi
but the nbf file cant open because its protected by a password.
I have written a letter to the support. After 2 days no answer.
Has some a Idea to get the password of the rom.
Hmm.. Try.
Siemens
siemens
FSC
fsc
fujitsu-siemens
uiui.. what was the internal code name of loox 720? (i forget)
I thinkl the password was the internal code name of loox 718/720
but i´m not shure, is long time ago, and there are no developers anymore within
FSC that know the password. (And after transmit FSC to Fujitsu some servers with
the answers would shut off forever...
I think one problem with WM5 is persistent storage, which is said to be not supported by Loox 718/720 hardware...
Hmm why? loox 720 has flashram (ROM) too? You should shift the memoryarea of the ROM from RAM to ROM. Some years ago we do that with the MDA/XDA series - maybe - is long time ago.. ;-)
Sorry, I should have posted the link: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/FSC_Loox#Loox_720
There it says, that FSC abandonned the WM5 update due to lack of hardware support for persistent storage.
Well, I know that the 720 has built in flash ram, but maybe it's to small to be used for both - the OS and regular storage which is now located in RAM, I don't know...
hehe, some "newer" modells like my htc shift have only 64MB FlashRAM too
It tried it again...

Now I wait for a response of FuSi. I ave written them a [email protected]
( Again 3 times no response )
And mkrom deosnt run on my computer. (????)
Hmmm.

1. dumprom
2. mkrom
What about Neokit
I just downloaded Neokit and now i try to open Loox 720
image. It is called OSV_10009G.nbf. I hope it works.
If it works i will upload all new created files.......
i'm very interested in a rom update too!
i bought my loox long time ago and payed 500euro... now i even can't connect it to my wpa2 wlan and use it as a webcam...
very sad
Ok..
new Idea! There is a Programm called ROM extractor.
I heard that every PDA has a kernel like linux....
If i extract all rom Files of a wm6 device and put them into the directory Windows in the LOOX 720 ( with RESCO Explorer ) wm6 Programms should
work.
But i dont have a wm6 device...
Can someone extract the all wm6 rom files and upload them here pls.
Would be nice.
!!!!!!!!!!Can somebody explain me how to use MKROM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good luck

EXT_ROM issues

Hi,
I'm using the official Dopod WM6 ROM on SuperCID Hermes300. I've unlocked and unhided my Extended ROM manualy according to the wiki. My extended ROM is accessable, but every time I install a program and softreset my device the extended ROM gets corrupted and al or some files on it disappear! Even the pre-installed dopod cabs. One time softreseting even bricked my device and I had to reflash it.
I've found out that this due to the fact that the driver in wm6 doesn't correct bad sectors in the extended ROM.
Does anybody know a solution for this problem?
Files in the ExtROM must be read-only! If aren't make them!
cheers,
dan

HTC Diamond ROM Backuo

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to extract the ROM from a Spanish Vodafone HTC Diamond. I've already dumped all 4 parts but I've some doubts
1->When I dumped the 02 part i got an error but i got that partition done. I would tell you wich error I got if I could remeber it or reproduce it again but i can't (F***ing Vista)
2->I can't use either awaieter or achef for reconstruct the ROM. Is this caused by incompatibility between these programs and Diamond's ROMs or/and Vista?(F***ing Vista one more time)
Thanks in advance
up up
well, i've managed to dump and reconstruct the ROM and i'm going to upload it shortly but i don't know how to check it out because i am scared to brick my brandy new htc diamond
what can i do?
Please respond

Dual Boot?

Is there a way to install two roms on a wm device and chose the os at bootup?
lol, I love this idea.. ^^
Would be great indeed as well!
6.1 / 6.5 e.g.
Making partitions on a smartphone hmmm ( don't know if it's possible )
I think not, but who knows...
lmao i was just talkin with my m8 bwt this last nite, i wondered if it was possible to partition the storage on the device and create some kind of dual boot, for 6.1 and 6.5,
After he stopped laughing at me he said it wasnt lol
dang i was hoping to put a stable 6.1rom and 6.5 to play around with
you can simulate it by two images on internal ram (4gb). its not a fast way,
but dont need partitions.
but why you asked? have you some compatibility-problems?
no i just want to be able to switch between os's with out having to flash over my customized rom. How would i go about doing this??
how bout os simulation ?
