Changing the language into English (from French)

Hi,
It is gonna be my first rom flashing, so I need a little push or help, let's say:
In the Wicky, the latest version mentionned is 1.30.68, but it says it is a test version. I don't want to make it hard, so can someone guide me and let me know if it is a good choice, and if not which other rom(s) I should go for..? It will also need to be sim unlocked.
Is there a proper "how to" guide for a quick and safe install?
Many many thanks!
May I just point out that you cannot unlock the phone by flashing a different ROM. You will need Buzz's SIM unlock tool which is available on this site.

Introduction for a Beginner?

Hello!
I'm new to the PDA-Modding scene.
And I've got several questions.
I updated my Asus MyPal A626 to Windows Mobile 6. It is an official Update.
Now I want to modify my ROM a bit. Don't panic! I'm a very experienced PC user. I did the same stuff with cell phones before. So I now, what I do
But before i can begin I've got some questions:
1. The official Update consists of 3 Files:
update.dat, Update.img and Upgrade Tool.exe
I used this tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284379&highlight=asus) with update.img and it made 2 additional files from it. What are these files for? And how can I modify the Filesystem and so on?
2. Is it possible to read the current ROM? A backup wouldn't be the worst idea berfore playing with selfmade-ROMs.
3. And what if everything goes wrong? Is there a way to program this backup back into the Rom?
PS: Sorry for my crappy english I'm from Germany
Thank you!

HTC ROM on Tmobile Dash

I plan to switch to HTC ROM after I unlock my phone thru imei.. folks.
I plan to use the following files HTC_S620_WWE_1.27.405.1_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship for the ROM and RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly for the bootloader.
Is this the latest/greatest ROM from HTC ?
Is it possible to switch back to the Tmobile ROM incase I need to ? Any special instructions for how to go about doing that ?
Thanks, . Appreciate all the help ..
U actually dont need to imei unlock ur phone, u can actually just use the excalibur update spl from jocky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329605 . After u do all of that stuff u can load any rom that compatible with the Dash/S620/S621. I have used this method and flashed my phone with the HTC ROM, and the Rogers radio and it is way faster than the t-mobile rom, and more reliable. The only thing is that you need to manually install office mobile if u want it on ur phone. U can switch back to the t-mobile rom if u dont like it the same way u switched to the htc rom. One thing to remember about the HTC rom, is that u need to manually configure ur MMS settings, here a link for that http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/mms?ispId=&mmsId=&wapId=&contractId=235&countryId=37&networkId=90&bearerId=5&phoneId=1426&manufacturerId=41&mobileNumber=&incomingServerId=. You also need to configure ur edge settings too, but u can do that with the same link i provided. Good luck, and im sure ull definitely like the HTC rom way better than the t-mobile rom
Unfortunately, the HTC rom is not as efficient as the T-Mobile one because it actually has multiple language packs. That's what I noticed. Right now, I am trying to find a way to rebuild ROM packages using BuildOS.exe and CreateOS.exe but no luck.

Thanks for the good info..
I have already got my phone unlocked thru imei_check.co.uk folks.
Do I still need to run the boot uploader or I can directly proceed to update the HTC ROM ? (HTC_S620_WWE_1.27.405.1_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship ) ?
If I understand correctly, since i want to keep the option of reverting back to Tmobile ROM (for warranty reasons, in case I need it !), I need to use the boot loader you mentioned.. Please correct me if I am wrong
Thanks

Ive got one problem with the HTC rom...
does anyone happen to know how to change the keypad to be US english? ive got the locale and language set to english (America) but if i go to use the (@) sign, ill get the english pound sign...or what ever its called.
also, i cant seem to access the windows folder from my pc any one know what i need to do to get it?
Use the search function to locate a file called eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap
You may think to tinker this file. I installed the HTC ROM and observed that the '@" was being replaced by the pound currency symbol.
I eventually switched to Rogers ROM (downloaded from Rogers website) and all is fine now.
Thanks !
Search the forum for this info, it's been asked an answered previously.

how to change name of rom?

hey guys,
i was wondering if there was a way like there is to change the banner name from sprint using CDMA, but to change the software name of the rom itself?
i''ve customized my rom so much and still plan on making many other changes, and i would like to reflect that on the rom name as well but can't seem to turn up anything with search...
thanks a ton
The name is in the buildprop
i know when you typed that up it was extremely clear in your mind...
but, where is buildprop? only tools i've used so far are QPST, CDMA, adb, and xUltimate....any of those have access to buildprop or is that through one of the "kitchens"?
lol. Sorry
The build.prop is in the system folder. There are many different ways to access it but the easiest way is probably with the phone itself.
You can use root explorer to mount r/w and edit it with the phone. Once you finish, remount r/o.....reboot and done.
Why is it that important to change the name of the Rom? The only place I can think that it really shows that is in about software. So unless you are trying to take credit for someone elses rom and show it off what would be the advantage ?
Most roms are built off others. Just give credit where credit is due.
this is not going to be shown to anyone else. and yeah a rom is built off another rom, but then the rom i'm downloading, which was built off another, should have that original rom's name, not the new one...so?
this is a change for me, and only for me.
thanks for the help bluebeast, made the change already

[Q] Kalee K919 Chinese phone - MT6592 - changing ROM?

I have a "Kalee K919" (Rip off of a Xiaomi Mi3?) phone given to me whilst in China recently. I changed the language, but it's pretty much useless on this side of the world as the browser is crippled and even though the language is changed, there is a mass of Chinese still. I wanted to give it to my son, but need to change the ROM to anything that is remotely usable.
I have managed to root the phone, but further than that I am stuck. I want to change the ROM but not sure what I can use on this phone. Any suggestions would be much appreciated - also, do I need to install a recovery "thing" first??
as you've probably guessed I'm very new to this.... And will keep reading, but any pointers would be much appreciated.
Hi
Getting a new ROM to flash on an unknown device is tough.
I would suggest you to download MTKDroid tool and also SP flash tool to do a full backup of the existing ROM (YouTube can help you see the process)
Then using mtk droid tool, get rid of all Chinese softwares. It has an option to do so. Then change the recovery to cwm r twrp (search links on XDA for more details in mtk phones) and then look for a similar configuration device ROM to flash
It is a cumbersome process and is risky so I would advise u to use the stick rom without Chinese stuff a d Download basic APPs from PS
