Hi,
I have been trying to plough through the messages here, but am still confused about where to start. Most of the following is probably FAQ stuff, but I cannot find much on the Wiki, but will happily add something for others.
I have the UK Orange SPV M5000 flashed with the latest Orange Rom providing:
Rom Version: 1.30.90 WWE
Rom Date: 02/24/06
Radio Version: 1.03.00
Protocol version: 42.36.P8
ExtROM version: (none) (skipped the install).
What is the best stable ROM to install to start off with? I gather that it seems to be a toss up between the QTeck and Dopol. I gather one might be missing some apps - I am quite keen to retain the voice call app, dump MSN and stick on Skype.
I have also just plugged in a 2Gb Sandisk Ultra II card with a view to start filling it with various apps and data and would appreciate any advice on the following:
- Recomendations on a Registry Editor so I can run through the recommended tweaks.
- Install a decent task manager - any recommendations?
- Install some backup software - any recommendations?
- Find and install some some sort of connection manager.
- Find and install some some sort of memory manager.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
OK, I have worked out how to upgrade the Radio ROM (to 1.10.3) and have been reading up on cooking your own extended ROM.
Bearing in mind I'm on UK Orange, what you add/subtract from the current Orange ROM to improve things?
Radio Rom 1.03 does have a few problems from what I read. The main trouble I had was when answering phone I couldn't hear anyone for a few seconds.
I am a UK Orange user and upgraded to Radio v1.09.00 and found the answer problem solved, better reception and slightly better battery performance.
Since then I am trying out the Dopod Firmware, the whole lot with Radio 1.11.00, so far no problems.
Hi,
Thanks for the response. I'm still trying to get the hang of the phone so will leave it a few more days before I play with the ROMs further.
My biggest problem is answering the calls when it is open on my desk - if I pick it up, unplug the USB, close it and then answer the answer button on the spine just doesn't seem to work. Actually it doesn't seem that reliable at the best of times.
Ultimately I'll sort out a BT headset, but was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
Upgrading Orange SPV M5000 where to start
I have gone through some of the postings on this great device , and would appreciate if the

I'am new to all this and was wondering if its worth updating my XDA IIs these are the settings
Rom Version 1.31.00 WWE
Rom date 12/13/04
Radio Version 1.06.00
protocol version 1337.38
ExRpm Version 1.31.139 WWE
Could anyone let me know if there are any benefits, also how easy is it to update, ie can anyone explain in basic terms as I have never done this sort of thing before, also if it all went wrong what would be the worst case senario.
Is there a simple program that does all updates?
Thanks in advance
Hi Popupstands
I upgraded mine a few weeks ago from the O2 ROM like yours to the config detailed below. Have found that this ROM is a bit more stable and has better control over wi fi switching than my old one. still have the same old bluetooth connection problems. You will also have to modify the below EXTENDED ROM to replace the caller ID file with an older version to avoid GPRS disconnect problems...
before you do anything, you should read ALL the INFO at following wiki link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
On a practical note, if you are reasonably happy with the stabilty of your device then the upgrade may not be worth it for you. I believe the official O2 rom update is imminent, so you may want to wait for that..
Hope that helps
Regards
Chris
hey guys
this is my first post here so i just wanna say how much information i have learned from this site and the forums. and i haved used the search function but after hours came up with nothing.
I have a MDA PRO Running the latest T-Mobile Rom, but its causing me so many problems.
It Takes forever to answer a call(around 10 secconds after ive pressed answer) it takes ages to open any applications. its just slow.
i was running the Imate rom before and was really happy with it. but there are some features that have come in the new t-moibile rom that i would like to keep such as the green battery icon and the "Soft Key" Application.
So i was thinking of only upgrading the extrom and the radio.
My current config is:
ROM VER : 1.30.114 WWE
Rom Date: 04/13/06
Radio : 1.10.03
Protocol Ver: 42.44.p8
EXT ROM VER : 1.30.232 WWE
I was looking to upgrade to either the QTEK or the IMATE rom b ut i wanted to know if ill still have the green abttery indicator and "soft Key" application as im not sure if they come with the rom or the OS. if not can anyone tell me where i can get them from plz.
Also alot of ppl are saying that radio 1.09 is the most stable, can anyone confirm this please.
Cheers guys
You will not get those features with the currently available Qtek or i-mate WWE.
I do however, have a suspicion (my spidey sense is tingling) that there will be new ROMs from within the next month and a half.
In the meantime, feel free to cook up your own.

I've had no issues with 1.09 radio
Hi,
I got my MDA Pro last week, there was some weird problems with it where it would drop the signal rate everytime someone called.
When I called T-Mobile I was told I should update it, which I did...then MMS functionallity disapeared etc..
So my question now is, which ROM is the best to use with it...and where can I find it?
Cheers.
Hi Jeuk,
I followed the t-mobile site and downloaded the update (it ends up coming from some t-mobile subdomain on 3rd part site, can't remember the URL, sorry, but hunt around)
I've found it great, fast and stable (as long as you reset when it says it's installing the customisations - you can pick and choose the cabs you install, i'd recommend the mms/gprs settings more than anything else - search on here for the t-mobile cabs, or get the extended storage unlocker and install from there using total commander (also search here for these things - this site is a great resource). You don't see many complaints from t-mobile users here, I suspect they've actually pulled out all the stops and been one of the most reliable resellers of this phones.
but my GPRS is great, coverage is fantastic, bluetooth profiles all in there (including a2dp [sp?]) for bluetooth stereo with a moto hs820), fast running, few resets. All I have of the t-mobile branding is the awful colours on the case of the device. that horrible pink-tinged plastic down the button strip. really. I mean, really.
maybe I should add:
ROM: 1.20.32 WWE
ROM date: 11/16/05
Radio: 1.06.00
Proto: 42.40.P8
ExtROM: (I erased the extended rom.. crazy radical reinterpretation of READ-ONLY HTC)

Would you like to help me build a single CAB file for T-mobile settings?
I would like to take a stock WM5 install, and then include the Qtek dialer and T-mobile settings.
This should provide a very clean build.
Anyone who knows how to build a settings CAB file, your input would be greatly received!!
Latest TMobile ROM
In the latest TMobile ExtROM has anyone done a breakdown of what each of the CAB files does? ESpecially interested in those that configure the MMS settings and GPRS
Thanks
Re: Latest TMobile ROM
I found the thread that describe the cabs in the 1.12.126 rom, here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32839
i'd imagine most of the names and descriptions are the same.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies, still having problems after the "latest greatest" update. I got the update from http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/
The MDA still hangs up on 80% of the calls, especially if you spin the screen before answering.
ROM version: 1.30.114 WWE

does anyone know new ROM from Orange release 25 August 06.....??
any link....??
Here we go with this new - ROM -
http://www.business.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Business&c=OUKPage&cid=1142943309969
I understand that upgrades to radio 1.13, but what's about the rest of the version, i mean rom and so on?
thanks.
I'd also want to know what is new in this ROM aside from the radio. Does this ROM have both AKU2 and A2DP support?
Does upgrading to 1.13 on the radio make much of a difference?
In an area where I used to get a 5 bar signal strength on the alpine with radio 1.04 I now get a 2 bar signal with the Universal and my wife complains bitterly that the sound breaks up whilst I'm talking to her...

It is hard to answer your question because different radio versions have different performances on different locations. So you basically have to try it yourself to determine if this will improve the quality of your calls in your area. The most important thing to know is you will not loose your current settings or programs installed as long as you ONLY UPGRADE THE RADIO VERSION AND STAY AWAY FROM UPGRADING THE REST OF THE ROM.
Thanks will give it a whirl - iirc its a case of deleting the nk.nbf and ms_.nbf files out of the upgrade?

Yes, and using the Ma_Upgarde_No_ID Tool to install it. I'll probably try and install it too myself today.
I think it's time that some informed people start telling the rest of us what's changing from version to the following: personal impressions on perfomance are often contraddictory, many are downgrading after upgrading. What's going on?
Gah now I'm annoyed.
I applied just the radio update and at the end when it told me to do a cold start I did just a normal soft reset, fingers well away from the keyboard. It starts to boot and I notice from the splash screen that it's QVGA instead of VGA as I expect. I think "Oh OK I just need to run ozVGA again it's just got reset by the update" - all of a sudden it tells me to "Tap the screen to begin using Windows"
Not amused.
Fortunately I kept a backup but that's really annoyed me.

excuse my ignorance (cause it's really buggin me too! ) but how do you backup the EXEC? on previous PPC's there was a backup to falsh utility. all i've seen are references to backing up 'my documents'. i would like to have a full backup like i used to get.
any help appreciated.
nevermind "Spb backup" it is!
hi gquipster
did you see any difference in the radio upgrade??
i am also having a little reception difficulty with radio 1.09 sometimes 5 bars and couple of minutes later in the same location no reception so any feedback will be appreciated. thanks
Backups:
When I say a backup what I meant is that all the cab files etc that I use are all stored on the SD card so it was just a case of rerunning them rather than having to dig them all out. Also all my files are kept on my SD card as well.
I see they've removed the backup option from ActiveSync 4.2 anyone know why that would be?
Radio 1.13:
Well I haven't really noticed much difference in the signal strength indicator on the screen but call quality whilst sat at my desk seems the same - perhaps slightly better. It does seem to be answering calls marginally quicker but that could be wishful thinking.
Real test will be as I drive home this evening, several areas where the phone broke up yesterday where my Alpine didn't so see how the new Radio performs there.
I actually didn't use the no_id upgrade tool I re-encoded the radio_.nbf file changing the operator id to O2 and then used the ROMUpgradeUt.exe etc from the last official O2 update just with the nk.nbf and ms_.nbf files removed. Maybe that's why it hard reset my phone? Not entirely sure.
Anyway if there is anyone with a debugger/decompiler/whatever who can analyse exactly what the changes between Radio 1.09/1.11 and 1.13 are I'd be very interested, I'm wondering if it's actually the same update just with a different version number depending upon the service provider!!!
G
Did someone above mention that this rom makes the screen qvga? I would be interested in that, as long as it doesn't screw up my phone software (like it does with ozVGA). Just to get a clear picture, how good is this upgrade, if anyone has anything to offer from experience, when compared with Imate JJ 1.30.82 WWE and 1.09.00 (radio) I am using on my universal (O2 xda exec).
i applied the radio rom to the qtek rom. no problems - no qvga
Device Information :
Operator version : 7.130.1.174 <---- NEW info...What it is..?
ROM Version : 1.30.90 WWE
ROM date : 02/24/06
Radio version : 1.13.00
Protocol version : 42.47.P8
ExtROM version : 1.30.174 WWE
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0) ----> AKU 2.0 (nothing new)
i think this is same with previous orange ROM, the new one ONLY Radio 1.13.00 updated, and have NO issue with new radio, everything seem OK..!
will be revert back to AKU3.2_Ivan and keep this radio...
I got QVGA cos I think I fscked up the update and it ended up cold booting my system. Haven't yet looked at exactly what I did wrong yet, might do if I get a chance after work this evening.
My current config now is:
ROM Version: 1.30.107 WWE
ROM Date: 04/11/06
Radio Version: 1.13.00
Protocol Version: 42.47.P8
ExtROM Version: 1.30.162 WWE
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0)
Notice you have a different ExtROM version to me - what exactly is different do you know?
I'm off on holiday as of tomorrow so may not get much of a chance to reply for a week or so (depending upon how many emails I get in my work account by the time I get back!!!)
G
Is there A2DP support in this new ROM?
Radio 1.13
Seemed slightly better whilst driving home today my wife didn't complain about me breaking up as much but she did say that it still wasn't as good quality as the "that other gadgetty thing you used to have" (Alpine).
Also for the first time this evening it detected a 3G signal in my house (0 bars but it detected it!!!) for all of 5 minutes before switching back to a 5 bar GSM signal. Will try moving it nearer to a window and see if I can get the 3G signal back, but thats a definite improvement.
Anyway all subjective I'm afraid as I don't have the expertise and/or the tools to be able to do proper testing.
Still need to figure out exactly what I'm doing with cooking ROMs etc first...

Hello all, I'm on o2 here in Ireland I wish to update my two xda exec's. I have my main phone running an o2 rom. coded as follows
Rom: 1.30.107 WWE
Dated 04/11/06
Radio (costumed to version) 1.14.10 (found on here and works great)
ExtRom: 1.30.162 WWE
Thats my main phone. So I use it every day. Its pretty stable with the odd hang . However I want to update it to a newer AKU (I'd like to do Ivens 3.5 test 2) But want to know the best extRom to use with it. (if its got o2 settings, all the better )
My second phone, is a project phone. Just to mess about on till i decide to sell the other one. I installed Ivan's rom the other day and it seems ok. (I much rather his wireless client) But I did not update the extrom on it. So again I'd like to know the best one to use. Its coded as follows
Rom: 2.60.00 WWE
dated 12/20/06
Radio: 1.14.10
extrom: 1.13.139 WWE
I'd like to get them more up to date. So any thoughts? The phones are used for wireless access, using netfront 3.3, texts, voice calls, movies using TCMP and GPS using Route 66 V7. So really most of what they are used for is an after setup install of programs.
Ok I'm a dumbass, just seen that I dont need anything in the extrom
