Radio not working, can't upgrade radio (I'm stumped) - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

First off, I spent quite some time browsing these forums but I cant find any posting on a problem like this.
I have a MDA Pro and I used to have Radio 1.09, Now it just says No GSM. When I try to update the system doesn't detect my radio version, also when I try updating the radio rom it just sits at 0% progress and then gives a 114 cant update radio rom error.
I've tried using mtty with rtask to reset my radio... didn't work. I used to have the qtek rom installed but went back to t-mobile rom. Didn't work. Repeated rebooting, with or without sim-card inserted. Didn't work.
Is there anyone that knows of this problem and knows a fix for this? TIA.

Have you tried Buzz's sim unlock tool?
Part of it is installing a specially adapted Radio ROM, without the main or extended ROM parts.
I don't know if it will help, but it might just give your Uni the kick it needs. You may be able to get this 0.00.00 version on, then when that's there, you can update to 1.11.00 or whatever you want.
Is that right? Anyone else got a view on what I'm suggesting? Sounds like it might help, but not 100% sure.
Regards

Seeing as I can't upgrade my rom to any other rom, I don't reckon that will help.
Besides, atm I still got the option to go back to T-mobile and get it fixed or replaced, removing the sim-lock will surely remove my warranty.

If it's still covered by T-Mobile I'd take that option, I have a T-Mobile MDA Pro, insured with HomeCare (T-Mob's insurance scheme), called them up yesterday because of a fault; and because it's bank holiday weekend (and I begged ) They sorted it for me to go to a T-Mobile store, pay my excess, and swap the handset there and then.
Slight cost, but fixed my problem (and also got rid of some dents and scratches at the same time)

Take 2: No calls after unlock

Hi again,
After my first panic-stricken post i did a bit of reading (dah) and decided to redo all. So now i have a XDA II with ROM version 1.60.00WWE, Radio ver. 1.10.00 and ExtROM ver 1.60.50. after running the xda2unlockver2.2 the phone is unlocked but with no network, or very erratic network and I can't make or receive calls. The phone was working fine on O2 before the unlocking. I have even got another XDA II with same ROM, radio etc and the process worked fine on that. What could be the problem?
Regards, Jim
I think I would be inclined to backup and try a hard reset, I know it isnt a very original solution but its worth a try, also remove the sim and reinsert. I am assuming you know the history of the phone and there is no chance that it is blocked on the networks.
Hi,
Thanx for the reply, I've tried all that and still no luck. The phone is not barred, I am 100% sure about that. I occasionally get a bit of signal on vodafone and t-mobile but when i try to make a call the signal goes then comes back. Any other ideas?
regards, Jim
maybe trying another sim card ?
Tried several already

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Update to new R

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Is Kelfords statement which keeps him from upgrading.
I have the same feeling. I am a scary type: Afraid to brick my Jasjar.
So here are some questions to all that did the job:
1. After some weeks... still runs faster then before U-day?
2. Which problems have been solved defenitely?
3. Tell me why I am a sucker not to upgrade.

1. Yes, I feel it's faster.
2. Update is not only for bug fix.
3. Some people still use Win98. You are not alone.
qt
I have upgraded mine twice in 3 days...
First with the official orange update, and second with the same rom but radio version 1.09 using the no id method..
Both worked very well and and the latest version is faster, more reliable and much better phone wise...
3. Some people are affraid that they will lose their guaranty if the upgrade.
But what is more worse then trying to upgrade after the waranty has expired, and then find out you have a model that gets stuck in the boot screen?
If you think about that, it's even better to upgrade to check if it gets stuck in the bootscreen, and send it back for another model that doesn't have this bug.
True or not?
Or you can just choose to stay with an unstable version, never upgrade at all and have a device with all kinds of bugs, and outdated os. Just like windows 98 users ^^.
i would say, if you are afraid, why not bring your universal to the customer services of your retailer to ask them to upgrade it.
My questions about upgrading to a non-O2 ROM are:
How do I get back GPRS/3G settings, MMS and SMS settings, all that stuff that the O2 ROM has and the JasJar one doesn't?
Also, does the JasJar ROM have the AKU2 feature (since I can't currently sync with our exchange server)?

Qtotter,
I am not that afraid. I am a software guy myself.
But I am so horribly dependent on my phone ( living in the middle of nowhere of Romania) that I consider to buy another one for the case that I am stuck.
I am continuously connected to MSN (clients and staff) All my agenda etc. etc. I have a simple Nokia as a backup. That's why I am afraid. I did an upgrade before, and all went nice. so I maybe....

Did you buy it on eBay or something? If not, all you would have to do is just to take (or send) your uni to the retailer as long as the warranty is good if it gets stuck at splash screen.
Upgrading and updating is part of evolution.
If you brick it --> RTFM
You all got your point. I just upgraded succesfully.
Thanks for your input.

To Brick or not to Brick that is the question
I can tell you personally that bricking the phone is a bad situation. However you have to ask your self if it brick doesn't that mean it was broken to begin with? I am bummed because I don't have my Jasjar but I appreciate having it more now that it is being repaired. At least make sure before upgrading that you hard reset the device, not that it matters because it all gets overwriten but you want question "is it something I did or installed?"

I'm in the "don't know enough about it" camp, but gonna give it a go sometime. Stupid question - will Sprite Back-Up reinstate you customization after an upgrade. I guess not but ....
Is the stuck in bootscreen a malfunction with the device ?
Mine is back to the shop due to this problem. I hope it's under warranty, I flashed it with the Tmob UK rom rather then the Tmob NL rom because I have everything in english and work at a international company.
So the new types don't have this bug (read: feature) so it's safe to reflash it again ?

Sorry to sound stupid... but upgrading the Radio ROM will hard reset everything like upgrading the main ROM?
I just did the official Orange ROM upgrade. Should I now upgrade my radio, before I get too far into putting everything back?
Could someone give me a link to how I do upgrade the Radio ROM? Thanks

No.
You can find radio roms on the net, or download a shipped rom (it is an executable archived file) and decompress it to get three rom images, one of which is a radio rom.
Refer to
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
qt
Here is a link to the latest radio ROM, I installed this on my last unit, it didn't require a hard reset.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Radio/UNI_radio_1.09.nbf.rar
The new O2 ROM is probably the way to go, it will give you 1.09.00 radio and the latest OS and ExtROMs.
Most people seem to have problems with ROM upgrades if they do a hard reset after flashing, so just finish the upgrade and poke the reset pin without the keys held in.

Reload before return (cingular)

I have to return one of my 8525s because of the overheat/screen aligh problem.
Since I have hard SPL can I load an original shipped rom without any problems or do I need to cook one?
Or should I load the new wm6 on this one..
From what I hear they probably won't even notice the radio or bootloader..
thanks..
dont go on what you hear. its always easier to reflash to your favorite rom when you get back your 8525. go on cingular.com and get the oringinal rom, use the original radio, and put back the cid lock. that way your sure that they wont reject your claim.
I got the replacment loaded up already.. I just wasn't sure I could load on of the original roms anymore..

im not sure just loading back the oringinal rom will put back the cid lock. find out how to do that.
Honesty is your best bet
having a CID lock will not in validate your cingular warranty, I have done it three times with out a problem, I tell them that I just want to be able to use my phone worldwide with all my prepaid sims, if your a good customer, ive been with them since 1999 and I am not on contract so they never f-ck with me as I am loyal. Anyway if you are a good customer and explain to them that you are a world traveler they will except it without a problem. If you have doubt call them using their technical support direct line (800) 331-0500 or (800) 304-3044
Ofcourse you will need to reflash with the latest shipped rom ....

To all who live in Japan and hope to use this to access MMS via the softbank network:
MMSLITE (both builds) do not work in this rom. So if you need MMS lite, best to stay with 6.0 for the time being until this problem is solved.
I'm loosing faith in this unlocking methodology in JAPAN...PLS HELP
I'm starting to think there is no solution I have unlocked and uploaded and reloaded and re-unlocked, etc but still the same problem...My phone can not access the cellular network. I did a manual search and my phone does not acknowledge the JP Softbank network. I have put different kinds of ROM's and OS upgrades, etc, but still no success. I'm starting to think that these great unlocked PDA's only work in Europe and North America and not in JAPAN.
I have seen several other threads with others having the same problem so I am going to try to ask this question in several different threads.
I have no errors and everything works fine in the process, just like everybody says it does, but still nothing for acquiring a signal. It just either shows an exclamation point or searching dots. I have compared the various carrier options on my phone to other Softbank phones and everything is the same networks except acknowledging the Softbank network.
I'm praying there is some smart person out there who can figure this out...PLEASE...PRETTY PLEASE...

Sounds like a radio problem. Tried flashing to a different radio? See the Wiki for instructions. After upgrading to a new rom you should still be able to get a cell signal.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349461
tried it and doesnt work...
I put several different radio upgrades and nothing...still can never acquire a signal...Please Help! What do I need to do in Japan.

You are getting no signal at all? Can't make calls? I have flashed many roms and always have a signal after flashing. It unfortunately sounds like your phone has a serious problem. I would send it off to get repaired.

I'm a compulsive flasher but I have never been unable to access the network straight after a ROM flash. What radio do you have now? Probably the only way you're going to check if it really is a hardware problem is to install the standard SB ROM (Make sure you disable the re-locking program in the EXT_ROM before you do that - just soft reset when it tries to run the self config after setup, THEN delete the file from the EXT_ROM itself to stop Softbank from screwing you if they hard reset it.) You'll need to install that ROM if you want to return it for repairs anyway.
Is your SIM sitting OK? That caused me problems once before.
don't flash back to softbank yet....

Correct me if I am wrong, but if he installs the SB ROM it will lock his phone for good right? I think it upgrades the radio to the locked 1.14.01.10 If he does downgrade to SB 5 by extracting only the rom from the setup file, then I can't see it making a difference. He should either get a signal or not get a signal, right? I guess though, if it is unlocked and he sends it in for repairs it is going to come back locked in any event.
Wow...many thanks for support BUT still ???
See, I can not get any support from Softbank because I do not have a Softbank phone. The only pda they offer is the X01T HTC with a japanese OS. I have one but it was run over by a car... I can still access the data inside via activesync. Is it possible to copy a particular file from inside that phone to this one.
I bought a Tmobile WIZA200 from the states. Even if I carried it to Softbank, they will not take it because it is in English (&@*#). I am starting to think it is a hardware issue and hope I dnt get burned on this ebay transaction, but have read some other threads that Japan is difficult (like always). Security Nazi's is an understatement.
I relatively understand these replies but don't really wanna get stuck with a "fried" phone through trial and error.
Do I need a SoftBank ROM?
If so, will I be able to unlock it through the methods in this site?
Will the ROM from an X01T work?
My old X01T, I had it unlocked and changed to English OS but all the unlocking was code based....I never had to input a code in this WIZA200 so I think the person unlocked it before me and I was just doing redundancy...???
Many thanks for your input.
Sent you a PM.

It's moot since he's not got a Softbank phone anyway, but the ROM itself doesn't lock the radio in, a program in the EXT_ROM writes the 1.14.01.10 radio, and then changes the bootloader (I think) so you can't change the radio. It doesn't lock a previously unlocked phone - I know because I have the black model and foolishly loaded the new ROM that locked the radio in, but my phone is still unlocked and supercid, which I'd done before flashing the SB ROM.

I don't think so, but you have a Softbank SIM from the crushed phone, right? Was that damaged in any way?
btw, does this ROM works with MMSlite? or it uses SB original mail program?
Hmmm...It sounds like there are great minds working on this
I had a reply from another thread with the same question and they are having kind of the same problem...I have seen this is several threads. from Japan users with unauthorized hardware.

Is it possible to manually go in and change the radio to 1.14.01.10 and is that the right ?freq? (I hope Im understanding this right). Also, do you know which files these are exactly within the phone and is it possible to go into my old one, copy the right files, change some wording and paste into my WIZA200? Where did you get the SB ROM, etc...?
hey, links are dead....
can I get a link to the Japanese Forum or to the rom.
many Thanks

Issues with Rom Downgrade?

Ok, So ive been trying like crazy to try to get gps locks with my xv6900, and I figured I would try the guide at
http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?title=Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS
Well downloading them was quite easy and getting the .40 coke to run was fine, but when I tried running 2.RUU_Vogue_SPRINT_WWE_1.12.651.1_2.13.00_SPC_NV133_Ship It gave me an invalid error Id 294. not sure what to do, I tried it a few more times and I kept getting the same errors. Afterwards I basically gave up thinking if it was this much of a pain than I can live without the GPS feature, but I dont know where to go from here. I did download a different rom specially for the xv6900 but from what I have read( and I could be wrong here) I need to install a rom that isnt GPS capable in order to be able to boot back into WM to get this all sorted out. Basically I just need a rom to do that, unless I screwed up more than I hope. So I can get this thing going, Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
EDIT : before i did this, I did install the BELL rom to upgrade to the 3.42.70? radio, perhaps thats why im getting the invalid ID error?
Also I am stuck at the 3 color screen that says
vogo100

Good luck.
I went there and i wasnt exactly sure which one to download, So i downloaded the VzW_Vogue_20273_a1.rar nad prior to extraction it asks for a password...
Please explain in greater detail as to how I can fix the issue, Thave You.
Stock Verizon rom
Awesome, back up and running, Thank You very much.
Why the f do people with vzw vogues insist on upgrading the radio to the bell radio? There is likely to be little or no benefit.
I upgraded my radio to the Bell one at first figuring that vzw screws us over with so much, maybe even the radio would be inferior to other service providers...
but as you said there would be little or no benefit, and truth be told I have less dropped calls and better service in with my vzw radio.
(my house is the worst place for service so testing this was quite easy for me, the vzw radio works 90% of the time, the bell radio wouldn't send text messages often and I would miss phone calls on the regular)
