Field my n00b question: XDA/MDA/SX66 differences?

Sorry for the n00b question - I couldn't find the proper search terms to answer my question.
I'm currently checkin' out the XDA IIs, MDA III, SX66, etc on eBay, and the prices vary pretty widely. You can pick up a SX66 for ~$600, but an XDA IIs is around ~$800, as is the MDA III.
My question is, how different are they? I'm in the US, so I think the SX66 is the most easily obtainable, but how restrictive/overbearing is the Cingular firmware? I'd unlock the device, of course. I'd like to use T-Mobile service (since I'm already on a family plan), so I could get the MDA III, but I'd end up paying ~$200 more for the phone itself. If I were to get the SX66 (or the XDA IIs if I could find it cheaper), could I flash in a T-Mobile firmware and/or any newer international stuff and maintain all functionality? Or is there any benefit at all to use a firmware that's associated with your provider?
I did read that the Siemens version is PH20B1, versus the PH20B of the other iterations of the device. Any problems that I may need to overcome? Also, what's the definition of a "cooked" firmware (as I see in many people's signatures)?
Thanks in advance.

Friendly Verizon customer? I need your help!!

Hi,
I have purchased a Verizon Locked Motorola Droid Pro on a famous auction site and had it shipped back to me in the UK.
Unfortunately due to Verizon's crafty intervention I cannot purchase a valid unlock code online. The code must be supplied to an active Verizon account holder.
I am hoping that there might be a friendly Verizon customer that might be able to assist?? I am happy to make a suitable payee pall donation....
Please get in touch if you think you could help?? I can supply the (clean) I M E I number which should be all the info required.
Thanks in advance all you helpful people!!

[Q] Sprint G2 - GSM unlock for europe - Bad ESN

Hi,
Im looking to buy a LG G2 from ebay, with the cheapest options being the bad ESN options. I am aware that the sprint G2 can be GSM unlocked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2655133).
However, my question is, would i be able to buy a G2 from eBay on the Sprint network, with a bad ESN, and be able to unlock the GSM radio for international use (UK), or must the ESN be clean?
Thanks in advance (apologies if this question/similar question has been asked before)
