How to create shorcut to soft reset machine? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I would like to create a shortcut to issue a soft reset command to my Blue Angel without having to stick the stylus on it's bottom hole. In other words, I want to be able to click on a small icon on the screen to tell it to soft reset.
I would also like to be able to do a shutdown (i.e. press the ( | ) power button) in the same way.
How can I do it? Is it possible without having to use a 3rd party app?
BTW, I have searched the forums but didn't find it...
Thanks in advance,
Brazilian Joe

Brazillian, you could do it without a 3rd party app if you write it yourself. Otherwise, there are apps that do this - I think PHM tools has something that does it.
My program VJEschaton will soft reset or hard reset from a shortcut or hardware key. However, read my other posts about (not) assigning anything to the power button.

I don't want to assign sonething to the herdware power button, I just want a shortcut which performs the same action...

Not eaxactly a shortcut but if you downlaod Tweaks2k2 demo (free) it has a soft reset option.

Brazillian: VJEschaton should still soft reset (and possibly optionally hard reset) for you then.

Great little application I have been using is psShutXP

Works a treat.

Any working Button Mapper?

Hi!
Is it somebody using any kind of Button Mapper? And how it works for you?
I have tryied few:
Vito Button Mapper didn't work at all.
Dabble launcher ... this soft can see only 4btns: GPS, Recording, Internet and Camera (Recording didn't work properly, gives me some kind of mistake with buttons.exe)
And last one what I tried it was AE Button Plus (but I didn’t have enough time to take a closer look on it)
So, what is you experience? Any luck?

In the past for the S200 (PROPHET ) we used a very nice applet, Softkey applet.
I am wondering if anyone has used that on the ARTEMIS.

The applet can be found on this forum under another link.(Prophet-Softkeys)
No, I am not looking for soft key applet ... My Soft keys working fine (and I have already installed soft for it, it comes in the rom) I can change them as I want ... But the question was: That I want to find soft which gives you opportunity to do a: Double click, Press and hold and etc.
Thanks ...
AE button plus
Here's an older reply of mine to a similar request for a button mapper.
Must have application for onehanders is a small utility called AE Button Plus at http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php. This allows you to map any number of system functions and applications to buttons (each button can acquire 3 more functions by double, triple and long press). For instance, I have mapped the mouse courser to a double click of a button. I have also mapped my ok button so that it really closes applications on a long press.
I know I sound like a sales rep but I am just a appreciative user.

jokkk3r - You are getting the buttons.exe error because you had Vito
Button Mapper installed at one time. I assume that you uninstalled it after you found that it didn't work (I did the same) - however, even after uninstall of Vito, any button that is not remapped by another app or by you through the standard WM5 button console will be stuck with the registry values that were assigned by Vito. So when that button is pressed again, the registry is telling it to look for the Vito software (called buttons.exe) that you have uninstalled. Hence, the error "buttons.exe not found."
Long story short, just disable any button mapping app you have running and then use the WM5 console to remap all problem buttons (even if it looks like they are already set.) Then start using your button mapping app again and the error should be gone.
By the way, I had the same problem with my record button (on press and hold) with Double Launcher. Single press, double press, and triple press would work, but press-and-hold would give me the error. That's how I found this solution. I still use Double Launcher despite the fact that it only sees 4 buttons (4x4=16 mappings is more than enough for me to try to remember! ) As I said - to get the press and hold function to work, you have to first disable DL and remap that function to whatever you want within WM5 - then use DL to remap the other 15 functions and the one you mapped in WM5 should remain (just don't assign anything to record button press-and-hold within DL)

SPB pocket plus
softkey applet lets you change only 2 soft buttons
And SPB pocket plus do the rest of work - 6 other buttons are remmapable
And SPB plus also give you the really close applications button and many many more...
I`m using softkeya applet + spb pocket plus - it`s great
Instead of IE I mapped the alt-tab button
Instead of GPS - close app button
Instead of camera at the right side - rotate screen
Left soft key - Explorer
Right soft key - Contacts

OK BUtton?

I have searched and read almost every post regarding remapping of ok button.
Can anybody tell me if ok button on front side of hermes near call buttons and softkeys be remapped.
I am aeb buttons but it doesnt have option for it?
any thing else i can try?
I think ae buttons have the option to do what you want...
When you go to the configuration window where you can set the funtion to each button even that the front ok button is not listed there is an option of custom button or something like that, select that option, then pres the button you want (the fron ok) and then asign the function you would like to add...
Sorry I could not be more detailed but I only use this software for very few time because when instaled, the scroll wheel didn't respond...
hope it helps...

Mablan
As far as I know, nobody has published a way to do this. However, If you havent already, there is a way to hack the PTT button, which I use to change the volume. You can assign any function that you want for buttons 1-5 @ start-->settings-->personal-->buttons. There is also a cab in the hermes section to remap your softkeys. You may want to talk to Sleuth255 (he was the one who hacked the PTT) to see if there is a way to do this for the ok button.

Worked like a charm
100x thanx 2 u
i know this forum rocks
hi guys, i am also looking for something similar to this. i have noticed that when i press the ok button on the front, or on the keyboard that it only minimises the program rather than closing it. now the background behind that is i have HTC X button on LVSW 3.30.0.9 (soon to be 3.30.2.1). and that is set to close the program.
EDIT: i stand corrected. i just googled ae button and noticed it was a program. i shall try that and see how it goes.

I have been looking for something to do this since the Hermes dropped.. I would love to find a way to make a press on OK minimize the app and a hold on it to close the app.. Still nothing?
Edit: I second the edit above...
that one may be possible with a combination of x button and ae button.... i havent tried it and am still trying things with ae button. but it may be possible.
ok. i am using ae button now and have noticed a few things.
one. the memory manager is pretty cool
two. when i go to add the front ok button above the 'end' key, it comes up with button #4075. when i try to remap that as 'close active application' it does nothing. not even minimise it.
three. it works when i remap the internet key to 'close active application' it closes it completely.
four. the same happens when i add and try to remap the ok button on the keyboard to the same thing.
and five. i notice that the button #4075. the ok button on the front, says 'change volume or.... 1. close active application'
which is odd.
the rest of the remapping works well. except for added the ok buttons.

Can X-Button be mapped to a button.

I've been searching forever for a low memory application that lets you map the close app to a button on the phone. The closest thing ive found is wisbar lite but i really dpnt wanna install that.
ae button plus lets you do it
never heard of it can you give me the link? thanks for the quick responce
PHM Keys
PHM Keys will work as well to assign Close to a button:
http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/Keys/
Although the app shows as having been built in 2004, it works perfectly on every device I've tried (up to and including Hermes). The Alt+Tab option for a button is pretty handy sometimes too.
http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html try this and you will never use x button that comes with the phone..it was option for mapping a button as well
also this link has a zip to map the launcher to open and close apps..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330855&page=2
I've been Using SoftsKey And you can map The Soft Key to Close apps...As far as Using a Hardware Button Like on the side of the Hermes. The apps Mentioned abov Work well.
Can PHM Keys assign the real closing feature of X-button to the OK button?

how to get soft reset link in start menu

hi ppl,
1. does anyone know where the .exe is for soft reset, probably in the windows directory but i have looked.
2. once i know the path how do i make a shortcut in the /windows/start menu. I can edit a crappy link like solitare but would like to know how to make a new one, cheers.
Download Slide2Shutdown here. Make sure to use the VGA version. Pops a menu up when you hold the power button down.

I use it on my tp2. The tweaks are nice, but having a soft reset button in my start menu is very convenient at times. Also check out memmaid(not free) for cleaning purposes. After a cleaning it has a soft reset option as well.
Anyone else looking for a fast reset on the start menu can also use this little program...Tj

How to restore EnergyRom default theme ?

Hello, I am sorry I didn't have time to read everything so I might have overlooked this information
I have just flashed my HTC TP2 with the EnergyRom and after setting up my wallpapaer i also did a reskin of the taskbar and softmenu keys and I hate the way it looks now and no matter what I do from the personalization folder ( whichever wallpaper i choose ) it wont be like before when it had a background and some gloss over it
Is there any way to reset the theme on this rom ? or to get the taskbar and softkey buttons to have a gloss over like before ?
Well, stating the obvious here but a reflash will certainly get you back to how it looked in the beginning.
I rather I leave it the way it is then to reflash ... was hoping for some setting somewhere
Without knowing which EnergyROM version you have, I can't tell you what the default theme is. However, if you unskin your taskbar and softkeys, you should be able to go to Settings -> Home -> Appearance menu and select from the different themes on your device (one of which will be the default Energy theme for your particular version).
If that doesn't work, PIMBackup your contacts, messages, etc. and do a hard reset (you don't have to reflash).
In case you don't know how to hard reset, turn the phone off. Hold down the Send and End buttons (phone cradle icons), and then push the power button and hold it down as well. Keep pressing all three buttons until you see a message about restoring your device. Press the Volume Up rocker key to reset, and again to boot when the reset is done. THIS WILL ERASE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR PHONE and take it back to a "first boot" state - that's why I recommend you backup anything important first.
Hope this helps.
-Mark
Thank you very much that helped a lot
I found the theme menu under start - > settings -> today
