Modifying directional control buttons in phone menu - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi All, I am wondering if there is anyway that a direction button can be assigned to activate the speed dial menu in the phone function of my O2 XDA EXEC? This is a standard function on my old XDA2, its really handy when as when I am driving, all you have to do is press the make call button then arrow down (which goes straight into speed dial menu), find your speed dial entry and hit make call again, it was so simple!!
I do have a bluetooth headset, but depending on background noise the voice dialling is a bit hit and miss. FWIW I usually have the phone in portrait mode/tablet mode as I find its better for me.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Jabra BT800 problem - or is it just me? - It is just me

Hiya, I got a BT800 for Christmas from my lovely wife and am having a hell of a time getting it to activate voice dialling!
Having paired it and chosen to use it as the hands free device, I can use it for phone calls that I start from the phone, but the Exec doesn't do anything when I 'tap' the answer button (one beep) or squeeze it(beep, pause, beep).
I've even just restored the original rom (hard-reset, basic install) and it still doesn't do anything...
Did anyone else have this problem? Is there a stage I'm missing out?
Hope someone can help, I've a nasty feeling it's too late to return it to Amazon...
Might be a daft question, but have you added your voice tags (or re-added after hard reset)?
Thanks for the reply, I was never intending to use voice speed dial (preferring voice command by miles) and so didn't record any tags. Even without any, you should still get the app launching and a message that there aren't any tags recorded. My problem was that I wasn't even getting that.
I can't claim to have solved the problem, but at least I no longer have it! I reinstalled the original O2 ext_rom and did a nice clean "Basic" install then put my customised ext_rom back and reset again. Having paired the headset I was able to launch voice speed dial from it, so went ahead and installed voice command, made the registry change to launch VC from the headset and am laughing.
I wish I knew what had caused the problem so I could avoid doing it again! I suspect that it was an attempt to restore my bluetooth registry settings on a rebuild that was the cause... Certainly I didn't try to set it up automatically the second time round and it *did* work, but there are too many variables to be sure.
HTH someone!
The Universal has no NATIVE support for Voice Dial using Voice Command. You have to do the following so it will work via VOICE COMMAND as it has to bypass the Installed Vocie software:
Install Voice Command to the default location.
Fire up a registry editor
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand
Modify the string marked "path" from the default \Windows\SDDialer.exe to \Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe
This should now launch Voice Command
Maybe you made a mistake like missing a letter?
If you have done the above and it still doesnt work, then i'm just as lost as you are
sorry, browser problem, message was posted twice
I'm using the BT800 with my Qtek 9000 (Original ROM) and don't have any problems with voice dialing. After pressing the button on the Jabra within a second or 2 the voice dialing application is started, I hear a start sound, speak the name and it automatically starts dialing.
I have installed the latest BT800 firmware (becaus of the international dialing bug) and had not tested this functionality with the original firmware. Which firmware are you using?

Which button do you have to press to activate the voice dial? The left or the right button under the LCD? Is it Tap or Hold, the button i mean?
@jorgee: 1st post - thanks, that's what I meant earlier when I said I'd done the reg fix and it all worked
2nd post - to activate voice dialling on a UK O2 Exec, you press the 2nd button from the left on the front of the device - next to the camera button.
@ MvanIperen, I'm using the latest BT800 firmware too, when I did a couple of rebuilds, the problem went away and it now behaves as you describe.
@ all, thanks for the replies! It was just me after all! Mental note: Mess with the registry at your peril!

I meant is there anyway to activate voice dial from the headset? Can i only activate it by pressing the voice command button? I mean lets say my phone's in my drawer and i have the BT800, do i have to pull out the phone to be able to use the voice dial?

Maybe I misunderstand what you're asking.
You posted the registry change to make this work higher up the page.
Pressing the answer button on the headset does fire up Voice Command but only if the display is open or in portrait mode. If it's closed in your pocket protecting the screen then it won't work
I've never installed voice command, i was talking about the built in voice dial application. If the QTEK is in my pocket, and i want to call someone, which button on the headset/BT800 do i press to activate voice dial? And is it push or push and hold? Do i ghet any kind of audible warning telling me i can start speaking the voice tag?
I hope this time i am a bit clearer, sorry for the previous confusing post.

On the BT800:
- To activate voice dialling (whether using MS Voice Command or the 'standard' voice dialling app) using a BT800 headset, press briefly the button nearest the headset microphone.
- To redial from the headset the last number dialled, press and HOLD the button nearest the headset microphone.
This works for me whatever situation the Exec is in: open, closed, portrait, landscape. I'm using the default voice-dialling software, not the MS one. Hope this helps.
Thanks SiliconS,
That was the answer i was looking for, sorry i had to bother you guys instead of reading the manual as my manual is in Spanish and i am only a beginner-intermediate level reader.
Again THANKS!!!! Very appreciated
Are any of you folks running WM2003SE? See, I was able to make that registry change and do a soft reset and have Voice Command working through the BT headset on my old machine, but it was running WM2003 (not the second edition version). From what I have read, SE doesn't seem to like that registry change, as when you make it, all that will happen is the connection opens when you tap the button on the HS, but the ability to use VC is not there.
I know there must be some way to do this. Any opinions or suggestions would be fab!
Thanks much!

Switch from TomTom to Phone

Hi All
Im wondering if any of you guys can help me.
I regulary use TomTom on my XDA Orbit and also use the speaker phone to talk on the phone as I drive. I have a problem when I receive an incomming call wilst running TomTom. The notification appears on the bottom of the screen telling me the is an incomming call, but Its a bit difficult getting from TomTom to the phone screen to switch on the speakerphone, without either dropping the call or quickly answering the call, then quit tomtom, then activate the speakerphone. I dont want to use the supplied headset and i dont have a bluetooth headset. Can anyone give any tips? Maybe a taskmanager wich cyles through the active programs using one of the buttons on the side of the phone??? Clutching at straws now maybe??
When a call is incomming, press the green answer button, quickly, and then press and hold it again.
Thanks for your reply. I will try this and let you klnow how I get on.
Cheers
Works a treat. I Have now also mapped the VJPhoneShortut ("Speakerphone ON") to the GPS Button on the handset which gets rid of the 3 second hold (not always easy when driving). Thanks again.

Softkey Hack

Hi,
Is there any hack/option/software to change the softkey(s) when the phone is ringing? ive tried a search but the utils seem to cover the softkeys during idle time.
My actual problem is, the Oribt is docked in the brodit holder running Tomtom, incoming call brings the notification window to the top, with the option to answer or reject - and return to tomtom.
But.. if the phone is 'keylocked' - as tomtom is now on top (after the call is answered) again there seems to be no way (without exiting tomtom) to get back to the today screen to unlock the lock, to then get to the speaker button - All a bit of a hassle when driving!!!
So what im looking for it to change the 'Answer' softkey to Answer on Speaker
Phonealarm will somewhat allow this through profiles, but i'll never remember to change profiles each time im in the car!!
Any Ideas anyone?
Bump.
Any Ideas anyone?
Unfortunately no solution, but as I have the same problem I will risk a small kick
--EDIT--
And a small search in the manual gave me this answer:
During a call, tap Speaker On, or press and
hold TALK until the speakerphone turns on. The
speakerphone icon ( ) appears in the title bar.
Now see if it works during TOMTOM operation

Toggle Handfree on/off during call w/o turning BT off

I am using an 8125 with Slide2Unlock and the Iphone dialer pad. Even with the standard dialer phone pad, if I want to stop using the headset during a call I must use the menu button at the bottom and select "Turn Hands-free off".. There are times that I do not want to use my BT headset or vehicle hands free unit. I would like to know if anyone had extracted that command and if it could be placed on the "in call" dialer skin as a hot button, like hold or mute, without having to go through the menu to access it. I don't need anything fancy that toggles the bluetooth on/off, in fact I would like to leave that unaffected. Simply a command that shortens the finger strokes of going through the in call menu and setting the handfree status.
Thanks in advance to brain tank.....
Does anybody have any ideas????? Please would really like an app like this....
Please Please...really want an app like this but I have no idea how to make one.
Thanks
have you tried holding down the green call button whilst in a call? Works on my SPV M1000 to turn speaker phone on....
A
Speaker phone is not my issue, I want to toggle between Headset and Handset while in a call. Like pressing menu/Handfree off.
GC
I tested a today plug-in which did it, unfortunately I don't remember the name. AFAIK it is the only software capable of doing it while in a call, so.... hope you'll find it

[WM6.5.1] Am I the only one who needs a keypad when answering calls?

I have an intercom in my building that is routed to my cell phone. I need to press number to open the door. In the latest builds of 6.5.1, when I receive a call, the option to show the keypad does not appear and no hardware buttons seems to trigger it either .
Is there a setting or registry key somewhere to force the keypad to appear also when receiving calls?
Also, when making call, is there any specific registry keys that control the screen turning on and off during call that I could control? I can understand the problem of having the screen active while the phone is on the hear, but I find it very annoying to have the screen turning off automatically while im answering questions from, i don't know if you remember the time, when the automated voice answering systems were only understanding key tones...
I find it ironic that my smart phone with gps and internet is not able to mimic the same functionality as any land-line phone can. Its like, yeah look at my new phone, its great for everything... except for the 'phone' experience.

I love XDA and its community and thanks to every hard working rom cookers. MS should pay you all big time for what your doing.
