Hello
I would like to know if the xda2i is compatible with 4Gb SD cards
Thanks
I would assume so as its a standard fit. Wont be very fast though?? Where and what kind of price are you looking at??
gingerchristopher
bit of an update. the 2i wont work with all 2g cards. so I am asuming that it wont work with the 4g. if anyone else finds out it would be good to know.
gingerchristopher
I have alpine with 2Gb Transcend card... All is OK.
I have just seen an ad for a 4Gb card on EBay advertised as compatable with the XDA 2i, I use a 150x 2Gb myself but noticed this card was also a 150x and good value at £65
As posted here I'll try the 4gb SD card we have at work tomorrow.
Yep, worked fine. It was a 4gb 150x card (£120 >.<) and it worked fine.
The XDA IIi employs the Intel's PXA272 as its core processor. The SD controller of the PXA272 currently supports one SD or SDIO card based on the standards outlined in the SD Memory Card Specification Version 1.01 and SDIO Card Specification Version 1.0 (Draft 4). Unfortunely, the maximum capacity of SD card defined in version 1.01 is only 2GB.

If you're saying the XDA IIi does not support 4Gb SD cards, you're wrong, since I tested the one that is sitting on a shelf where I work and it was fine.

Actually, I really don't know whether the XDA IIi is able to support 4GB SD card or not. I found the technical info in Intel PXA27x Processor Family Developer’s Manual and SD Specifications part1. Version 2.0 SD spec can support up to 32GB SD card but Version 1.01 only 2GB. And, the SD controller of PXA27X is built on Version 1.01.
p.s. Here are references:
1) page 16, "2. System Features", SD Specifications part1 Physical Layer Specification Version 2.00 Draft
2) page 737, "15.1 Overview", Intel PXA27x Processor Family Developer’s Manual
32Gb? How much is that going to cost?
I thought a 4Gb card was a bit excessive!
As I know, everything is ok with 4Gb.
Just bought a 4Gb Zynet 150x SD card and it seems to work fine, although I have not tried copying a whole 4Gb to it.
That was on my XDA II (since my IIi is currently having it's screen repaired!)
Incidentally, does anyone know what the max transfer speed of the II and IIi is to the SD card?
Thanks
Steve
P.S. My Casio Exilim EX-S600 can't see all 4Gb, but can write to it.
4GB sd card shows wring usage information
Hi,
I have just bought 4GB SD card for my XDA IIi, I copied all my music on them. But surprisingly enough, music and some data I have copied is total 1.9 GB, but the memory tools shows only 245MB free. where has another 1.7 GB gone? Does this mean it doesn't support 4GB?
Regards!
Narayan
Edit: Q answered
unfortunately not
hi
I bought a 4gb SD card in order to try it with my alpine.
unfortunately it isn't compatible.

I can verify 4Gb works well, I have been using a TOPRAM 4Gb 150x in my XDA 2i for the last 9 months or so and no issues at all currenly it has about 3.2Gb of data on but is just the same stpeed to use as my old 1Gb 150x SD. TomTom works fin, movies play well and no issues with software or MP3s just dont put any today plugins on your SD as that will affect performance.
hy guys.
i would like to know if xda IIi supports 8gb SD cards?because on ebay those are really cheap(like 15€ = cca. 20$), i know its not lots of money, but i dont want to buy something it wont work...now i have 2gb RS MMC card in it with adapter from my old nokia 6630, and works fine, just not big enough for divx movies etc
regards
Sadly 4gb is the largest non HC cards I have seen, wether micro or SD anything above 4 gb seems to be an HC and HC cards will not work (Or so everyone tells me I believe them as it is a different interface standard)
so it also work on xda II?

Will it work on the xda IIs?
It may. A user on another forum just reported succesfully using a Tanscend 4gb card in his XV6600 even though he was told it would only support 2gb...http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61612
Have tested with 2GB SData SD card myself, works fine. Didn't have 4gb but it should work as well.
The SX66 supported SD list was created back when the highest SD card was like 512meg or 1gig, that's why the supported lists are different
hi, thanks for the replies. i see it everything should be fine using a 4gb sd card.
due to the nature of the BA, and as far as i kno all other fairly recent PDAs they will support all current and future SD cards as they don't suffer the limited memory addressing of smaller less complex devices such as normal mobile phones like nokias and digital cameras
i've read somewhere the SD card standard will theoretically go up to 16gb, lets hope they arn't too far away, and that the BA will support it.
Still hoping some random company will develop and release an SDIO USB host though. Damn the BA not having Compact Flash.

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of upgrading my 512mb SD card to 2gb, but I'm not certain that the phone (Qtek 9090) will be able to work with such a large card.
Does anyone here have a 2gb card working? Any brands/models that are known to work or fail?
Thanks in advance for your help.
2gb SDCard...
Hi!
I'm currently using a 2gb SanDisk SD Card, everything works great. Oddly enough, I cannot find a card reader to connect to my PC that can read them!?!? I'm still using 2003SE and transfer movies and MP3's to the phone by using the painful multi-hour process of Exploring via ActiveSync. Uggh! This is fixed in ActiveSync 4.1 but ONLY if you are running WM5... Just having 2003SE and 4.1 will still be totally laggy for file copy.
Enjoy!
2gb SDCard...
Hi there, I also have a 2Gb Sandisk card in my XDAIIs, I also have a card reader which I purchased from PC World for £10.
Works a treat!!

Hi! Do you have a brand name or model number of the card reader you mentioned so I can search for it on the Internet? So far I've purchased 2 different readers and neither can speak "2gb" The one I can use for 1gb cards but not 2gb cards is Belkin F5U248 rev.2, so I know that one wont work!
Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know what speed the BA supports for its SD cards?
The transfer speed is limited by the SD card type
The transfer speed should be contained within the card specification sheet
As I understand it, the maximum transfer speed is 22.5MB per second
This is for a 133X SD card, so compare accordingly
thanks for the reply. I just wanted to make sure that there wasnt a limit on the SDIO bus on the BA.
I'm planning to buy a 2gb Sandisk, but i'm not too sure whether the ultra version will work, as the compatibility list on their website only shows the standard. So i might just get the standard one to be on the safe side.
I currently use 4Gb SD card! I had only hard time finding flash card reader for my PC, which can read such a big card
I believe PPC devices has no problem with big SD cards. At least my Mio 168 PPC with GPS (PPC 2003) understand 4G card too.
But I do not believe flash manufacturers X rating. I NEVER seen real speed more than 3 Mb/s on any type of device. My card have rating x133 (22.5Mb/s). And I have no idea on what device and how did they measure that speed?
From the 2g->4gb reports it sounds like sd card size is not so much an issue for the BA, more for the SD->USB adaptor.
I have the same awful USB activesync file transfer rates reported on this thread, despite running WM5, so it sounds like my current adaptor might need upgrading.
Anyway, thanks for helping out, and I now have a 2gb 133x SD on order for next week ;-)
The typical transfer rate is 2MBps
Quotes like 133X and 150X are NOT a multiple of this but the coefficient comparison between the read and write speed
As an example for a 2MB SD card
Uploading 2MB data takes 1 second
Reading data, for that same setup, takes 1 second
For the 133X the write speed is the same, but the read time is 0.4 seconds and for the 150X card it is 0.33 seconds
This also assumes the SD interface meets SDIO v1.01
If not then the 133X and 150X cards take the same time to read as the standard card
2gb Card Reader
Hi there ottGalaen,
My card reader is made by PC Line, I think it's PC World's own brand, the Model number on the back is PCL-CR400.
Here's a link to it...
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=818835&category_oid=
If that doesn't work just go to www.pcworld.co.uk and search for PCL-CR400
I hope this helps
Kind regards
Terry

Yo, what type of SD card that you using now (Sandisk Ultra II) ?
Just so you guys know my 4GB SD card is a Transcend 150x.
Sandisk, Panasonic or ....?
I recommend Transend 150x (fast) 4gb for about £55
What is the max sd size I can put on my Jamin? Is it 4G the max size?
In theory there is not a maximum size, but until you buy a particular brand and try it, you never fully know...

Ha, I have the same and I think it's pretty good too. Don't hesitate to buy a 4GB card - the space is never enough
4gb microSD or SD
Now I use Transcend 1Gb MMCmobile and I decide to buy card with more space.
Which one 4Gb card are complitable with Qtek S200 - microSD or SD?
I want microSD because of microSD is complitable with lastest Nokia and Benq-Siemens mobile phones so it's more universal.
So, which 4Gb microSD with adapter is fully complitable with Qtek S200? Anybody test it? Or better to buy standard (full phisical size) SD?
SD is the right choice for the Prophet, but if you intend to change your phone/PPC soon you are better off with a microSD.
I myself had a 4GB SD for my Prophet but I swapped it for a Herald/P4350. Nice device but it uses microSD. That sucks
microSD so far is only available as 2GB max. If you need 4GB of space take a SD-Card if you can live with 2GB than definitly go for microSD.
It usually comes with an adapter to be used as a SD-Card.
btw 4GB is the maximum size for the Prophet.
I am always wondering about this because I use a Dopod 818 pro, and the manufacturer's website says it supports up to 1GB SD Card. So it can support a 4GB on that model? Can any verify this for me, thanks!

Yes, 4GB SD-Card can be used by Prophet devices. I for myself used it for the last ten months without a problem. anything above 4GB I cannot guaranty. I'm not sure about SDHC-Cards if they are working in those devices.
Thanks Kelvin for your info. I will try to buy a standard 4GB SD card then. One more question, do you think the speed rating of the SD card has any effect on the performance? Would getting a 150x card be better?

I checked my old SD card and it was a 133x Speed. I was pleased with it. I'm not sure if the 150x performes better/faster on the Prophet, actually not even sure about the Prophet SD slot read/write performance. But in general it won't hurt going for the 150x if the price doesn't differ much from a 133x. SO GO FOR THE 150x
Thanks for your answer. Will buy it at the weekend!
It would be faster, But not on the prophet
The prophet can't use the speed since it cannot write data on a memory card so fast, Actually, Today the only speed limit is the device itself, The cards are allways getting faster and faster and faster and...........
Hello again!
I have choise between two 4Gb cards for my Prophet:
1. Transcend 4Gb Secure Digital card [MLC, 30x] (43$)
or
2. Transcend 4Gb mini Secure Digital card SDHC miniSD (43$)
or
3. Transcend 4Gb Secure Digital card 150x (50$)
Which of them is the best for Prophet (Qtek S200)?
My choise - 2nd or 3rd card (prefer 2nd because more universal) but I would like to read people's opinion. Can i feel real difference between this cards onn Prophet?

Not sure if Prophet can cope with SDHC technology, probably not.
So, 4GB SD Card will recognize in my Dopod 818 Pro with still original WM5 shipped ROM?
I tried a 4gb SDHC card with my prophet today, it didn't work. I wonder if there's a patch for sdhc support.
Hello,
I am a new Blue Angel user (bought it used) and so excited to get the best out of it.
Well, I am trying to upgrade the storage, and trying to buy 4GB SD Card...
I have seen a lot of
"Dane Elect 4GB SD Cards" on Ebay and
"Transcend 4GB SD Cards" on Amazon, and
trying to buy either one of them.. but I am wondering,
-Are they both compatible? and..
-Which would be a better choice?
Your replies much appreciated.
Best regards,

4gb card
i have a topram 4gb card 150x and all is working ok on my xda 2s with tomtom 6 and mp3s, movies
4GB
I bought a D-Tec 120x 4GB SD Card, had a bit of doubt as I have never heard of D-Tec.
However, I received it today, and so far it works fine! It recognises as 4GB.
To clarify this a bit more for people -
There are two types of SD cards right now:
SD (1.1)
SDHC (2.0 - HC stands for high capacity). A good primer on the changes can be found here: http://www.sandisk.com/sdhc/SDHC.pdf
Basically, what you need to know - any card that is regular 1.1 (8mb -4GB) will work in the BA. Any card that is 2.0/SDHC (4gb -32gb) will NOT work, as 2.0 is NOT backwards compatible.
The problem here, as you may notice, is that some 4GB cards are teh 1.0 version, and some are the 2.0. If you are not careful, you may buy the wrong card, and end up with something you can't use.
Now, it is possible that some SD devices can only address values smaller than 4.0GB. But, assuming the device is FULLY 1.1 compliant, a 4.0 1.1 card should work just great.
Here is an example of the differences -
This is a 1.1 card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820183017
This is a 2.0 card:

Hello! I called the customer service of O2 today. It says that a storage-card (MicroSD) for the XDA Orbit cannot bei bigger than 512 MB. I cannot believe that but is this correct? Does anybody know the maximum size for a storage card?
Not true - my Orbit runs fine with a 1Gb card, as does my MDAC3.
I am happily running a 2Gb card in my Orbit
Where's the limit?
What about 2GB or 4GB? Will they work with the XDA Orbit?

Hi,
I'm not as experienced as some others on this forum... I'm sure they'll correct my info
I spent a day or so seraching for info before I got my card, and FWI here are my notes:
2GB fine.
4Gb may be problematic.
Thickness of SD card may be a problem. The latch/Phone card has to be correctly clicked into place around the card.
Some makes of card seem better. Sandisk HIGH SPEED seem to be good.
I've got a 2Gb version and it's ok, but read others experiences in the forums.
I got both Lexar and CNex tools to check formatting could be done with full control and also to provide recovery possibility.
Hope that may help.
damned micro sd card
please can someone help?
i have a 1gb sandisk micro card which is being reported by my orbit as 512mb(minus FAT). i put it into my computer and it is clearly 1gb. i have tried putting more onto the card via the orbit, and it says "no more space", but it is fine via the pc. what's going on?!?
thanks in advance,
Tom
Maybe you should try WM5Storage and format SD card on PC. There is detailed instruction how to do it on forum.
afaik there are no 4gb micro sd cards. 2gb is max for them atm
I sell 2gb micro sd for the orbit on a daily basis and had no problems with them, I even use one myself.

Mobile 2007 .... what make and how I was under the impression 4GB were not compatible?
I'm currently using a 2GB Sandisk microSD card and it is perfectly working.
Regarding 4GB microSD cards, they are called microSDHC (High Capacity) and as far as I know, the Artemis is not able to read from of write to them.
That's what I thought but it appears mobile2007 has got it to work?
I've got a 1gig with all sorts on it. I think 2gig is the biggest at the moment.
