Ok this has been done to death I know but I can seem to find the thread that allowed us to make sure the bluetooth never goes to sleep. its a reg hack and I lost it anyone know where its is or maybe what the string is?
this is the best resource on the web for the pocket PC devices by far all the others are a joke. I have recomended this site to several people in the past month so I hope we can keep growing
Thanks all

I use a small software (attached). I also don't remember of a reg hack.

Unsolved problems with WM 5 for SX66

Can some one summarize the unsolved / pending problems with WM5 upgrade on SX66 Cingular version?
No reply recd so far shows that no one has clear picture of whats working and whats not working.. so sad ... or people dont find time to compile the list.
I wanted this list to be prepared so that one decides when to switch over to WM 5.
Any feedback?
This is why people browse the forums. Kinda unfair to ask someone to compile a bunch of items for you when all you have to do is read. I agree it would be nice but still unfair.
I have an idea, read the forums, make your list, and post it for the rest of people who may come to this site.
Point is, there is no set list. It varies by device and by user and is dependant upon a number of factors....
I have no experience on implementing WM5 on SX66 and thus as asked by you can not work on the list of pending problems and publish to others.
I am not that enterprising that I jump into the update without caring what will happen to my device.
To me it looks that only few problems are pending and rests have been already resolved.
Not to be argumentative...
This is a developer's site... research, test, provide feedback on the results... basically try to contribute to the community.
If you're not enterprising enough to help with testing, maybe you should put together a list based on the main "resolved WM5" thread, and possibly maintain. People would be more inclined to provide feedback...
If you want a stable code for your SX66, use the 1.40c rom which is pretty baked. If you want WM5, it will definitely require a little beta-tester bleeding.
I have WM5 on my sx66. I am having no problems except for the ones that everyone is having on all the phones.....
1. Bluetooth disconnecting after so long.
2. Bluetooth disconnection after pressing power button.
3. "G" in today bar always showing even with no connection. (Did not happen in 2003se)
That's it.
Biggest problem unsolved problem for me is the wmodem application to use the phone as a modem connection for a pc.
rschell and jsosow : Thank you very much for such a positive reply.
As for the abovementioned 'G' icon in the top bar there is a registry change / cab file that can remove that annoyance.
I don't have bluetooth disconnection problems so much as when I hit the power button to put the device in standby (and really stretch out the battery) it turns bluetooth off. I've just made it a habit of re-setting my PZP standard profile when I turn it back on and need to make a phone call. Annoying yes, dealbreaker no.
Performance is a little wonky at times. I have the 530mhz overclock.cab developed here, and while it is good, sometimes it can choke a little. You have to turn off some of the sound effects to get it running at a decent speed.
Hopefully there is another WM5 'leak' we can use to get this puppy up to production quality, as of right now its very close!
Where is the "G" fix? I seemed to have missed it.

The only other problem is, e-mail accounts are deleted if you remove the battery.

hi twiggy,
how can I help you (even that i'm not getting donations here)?
buzz
no ive given up on asking for help ive posted several posts over the last few months and to be honest ive got more help speaking to a brick but thank you for offering DONT DONATE
I have donated, but to be honest my meagre contribution is but a fraction of the value that I have had from xda-developers.
I have unlocked my xda and my xda2. I used the special ROM and later the ROM Kitchens to upgrade my xda. I have downloaded ROM images for my xda2 and learnt how to tweak the extended ROM. I have used buckets full of advice given by the members of this forum. I have had many laughs and smiles reading through the posts.
Xda-developers has been worth every cent/penny of my donation (and probably loads more too). I am waiting for an unlocker for the mda-pro. If it happens then xda-developers or buzzdev will get my next donation.
I haven't expected personal service with replys directly to me. I just read the posts that interest me (and some that don't) and make use of the services that many hardworking developers make available to us all.
Donations only keep the site running and finance its hosting/domain; they don't pay for help from other users of the site. If someone helps somebody else here, they don't get anything (financially) in return and are giving their time and expertise for free.
Regards,
Neil.
I donated because I like my HTC phone and I do not want to lose a technical resource like xda-developers. Even though technical information on HTC phones is hard to come by, there is more information about them on this site, than there is technical information about other phones on any single site. You'd be lucky to find this much information about any phone.
twiggy626: Calmly tell us your problem, be it "bloody damn activesync", keys and screen not locking the way you want, upgrade not working, or whatever's bugging you. State your problems clearly -- what is happening, and what you want to happen. You might not be getting an answer because your questions are not clear enough and no-one knows what to say.
Expanding on what leek said:
A good guide with pointers on how to ask questions in a way that is more likely to yeild results can be found here:

I'm afraid I'm not an expert on activesync. Others have more experience than I do.
When you say "after sync it drops the connection", do you mean after it has synced your files (contacts, etc.) it drops the connection, or do you simply mean after it opens a connection, it immediately drops it? Are there any clues on the screen of the PC or PDA, any messages? Does it say "synchronized" for any length of time? Can you "explore" your PDA from within ActiveSync?
Have you tried changing the options in ActiveSync? Have you removed unnecessary programs which could be conflicting with AS on your PC or PDA? Have you tried a different USB sync cable or cradle?
If you are trying to fix something wrong on your PDA by installing software on it, have you tried other methods of installing software, such as using a card reader and copying the .CAB files to a SD card, then installing the SD card in your PDA and running the .CAB from there? Or setting up a Bluetooth connection, by using a BT dongle on your PC? Wifi? There are many ways to install stuff on your PDA besides AS. Perhaps the solution to fixing AS, requires going around AS.
What is the history of your PDA? What have you installed on it, and what modifications to the ROM have you made? What steps did you take?
I don't know enough about AS to help -- I'm just trying to steer your questions so that you're more likely to get answers.
you are likely to get more of a response if you stop posting in unlocking and modifying and post with the forum that relates to your device. this way your questions will be more specific, and you will also find that those with more specific experience to your specific device can assist more efficiently that trying to cross advise.
for example, I cant really help on the magician, but have owned the himalaya, and currently the universal. so i only review the himalaya forum and no other.
also, i dont see much where you have provided assistance to others, it appears to be i want i want i want, try to give a lot and you might get back a little rather than vice versa.
it is true, we are all here to help, not serve.
You dont even point out your device, the version of your operating system on your pda or pc, nor what version of activesync. help yourself by helping us to help you.
to give assistance you have to learn, i cant learn from nothing
to give assistance you have to learn, i cant learn from nothing
I'm not sure if this is what you want. I am not an expert but I am just having a look at my device now:
I have an xda2 (Himalaya). With my device NOT connected to the PC:
1) Open Activesync
2) Click on Tools (at the bottom) and selcect Options
3) The next screen should mention the PC that you sync with. Click on the Options button.
4) On the next screen, tick the box for enabling PC sync and choose the USB option in the drop-down box.
5) Just underneath it states: When syncing remotely
6) Select the Maintain connection button
7) Click OK to close the screen
I suspect that this is more for bluetooth or network connections, but it is worth a try.
Good Luck

I am new to upgrading a Smartphone and need help

I am not sure if this is the correct place for this thread, and it is my first post so please be gentle if this is the wrong place. Sorry to the Mods in advance.
I purchased an at&t Tilt when it launched and have loved the phone since I got it. A customer came into my store the other day with the Touch Flo Cube(I believe that was the correct name for it)setup running on his. He showed me how it worked, and I fell in love with the user interface on the spot. His Tilt also played streaming videos from Youtube and other websites and said there was a software update for that too. I have been online for the last few days researching software updates for it and have had not problem finding any. The problem is that everywhere I go there is a GIANT warning saying that if you install this stuff without knowing what you are doing it will ruin your phone. Well, as stated I am a Noob to all of this. I have no idea how to do any of the stuff and have not been able to find New User Friendly instructions. I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with updating my Tilt to run the interface that I mentioned, and or if someone could point me in the right direction to find instructions on how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
im having the exact same problem ... i read oen that said to run it on ur computer then sink it with your phone and then i read one that said sink your phone then run it on ur phone .... but which is the right way?

ok, the best place to post this is in the kaiser upgrading forum. dont be scared, we were all noobs once. If you read the instructions properly, and follow them properly, you will be very very very unlucky if you damage your device. The roms and unlockers only have those warnings because they arent responsible if you break your device, and though its obvious, they still have to say it.
kaiser upgrading and unlocking : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=378
So dont be scared, but be cautious, and take your time, rad it all, and take heed of the warnings, but dont let them put you off...

Sorry, another dumb question. I have found a person on htcwiki.com that says all I need to do is to install the Cube programing to my Tilt, then when I open the folder, it will auto install the files to the correct places on my Tilt enabling the Cube to work. Does this seem correct?
The cube updating changes the browser to mirror the i-phone correct? Where I can simply run my finger across a web page to scroll from left to right and side to side?
Where would I find an application that would allow me to view Youtube videos?

T-Mobile Dash and Wifi certificate error

Hello All,
First off I'm very sorry if this has been posted before. I have searched for hours and can't seem to find a solution.
I just recently got a Dash. Wifi works great on it at my home through WEP. However, at my university's campus I am unable to connect. My school uses 802.1x PEAP routers, where everyone trying to connect has to input their username, password and domain. I entered in all the information in my Dash but I get a certificate error. A friend of mine who has a HTC Diamond has a program on his phone that will disable that error from happening and he is able to connect to the campus Wifi. Is there a solution to this problem or a program that will allow me to override this message?
Thanks for your time.
i searched around and read many many threads like this...not one has a solution. seems is a windows f**k up yet again.
http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/crtimprt.html
check that out
also, google Funk Software Odyssey and read about that
Thanks a lot for your help. I guess I'll keep looking for a solution. There's got to be a fix out there.

[Q] New ROM Issue Help Requested

I've been reading myself silly trying to figure this out & my attempts at Searching haven't helped, probably because I'm not fluent enough to use the correct terms. In spite of having this device for several months, I've never learned as much as I'd like. Anyway . . .
I finally flashed the newest stock ROM from HTC several days ago. The process seemed to go fine with one exception: I keep getting a notification that I have a new Voicemail when I don't. I check -- no new Voicemail. I Dismiss, but the the notification keeps coming back periodically. Suggestions?
Other than that, things seemed to go smoothly, and I started slowly getting things back the way I like them. After reading & making sure I understood (or so I thought), I installed the .NET 3.5 Framework so I could use Crud Scraper to get rid of the stuff I clearly remembered using it for.
The .NET part went fine, and then I did the soft reset . . . and lost My Location on the Today screen that shows my weather. It now says I'm in Seattle, which I'm not -- I'm over a mountain range & about 350 miles east of Seattle. When I try to change the location, it doesn't find my town or anything in my area, for that matter..
The mysteriously (to me) reappearing Voicemail Notification is bad enough, but I really rely on the weather, particularly this time of year, and it's driving me crazy that I can't figure this out. Suggestions?
TIA
Did you try looking at the several threads on this ROM in the Rom Development forum? There's a fix in one of them for this problem.
For which problem? And, do you have any idea what thread?
And, yes, I did look in the thread I found (New ATT Tilt2 ROM) -- I believe I read every post before I flashed the latest ROM, even though much of it was over my head. That's where I learned that I had to install .NET 3.5 & reboot before CrudScraper would work.
I recall several people mentioning that the My Location worked flawlessly & how great it was having the location, and I read where one or two people seemed to be having the same weather problem I'm having, but I didn't see an answer. I read in one of the forums that there seems to be a bug (although not confined to the latest ROM) in certain parts of the world, and I read a thread where there seemed to by a problem with My Location in a cooked ROM that might or might not have been related to GPS not working. I read something else where My Location wouldn't work with 3G, only with Wi-Fi, so I tried that, even though My Location was working just fine after I flashed to the latest ROM -- that didn't help.
So, it's not like I'm asking because I hadn't already tried to find solutions myself. I'm not doubting that there are answers to both of my issues but rather that after spending several hours over the weekend trying to find the solutions, I've been miserably unsuccessful. Otherwise, I wouldn't have asked.

For the My Location feature, only part of the service is understood. For the most part, the location is determined by the cell towers your device connects to. It depends on where you are as well as the signal strength. Sometimes the request is not sent or received to/from the tower(s). It is more accurate usually when 3G is turned off. The alternative is to add your city manually. If the location servers can't figure out where you are, then it won't work.
Normally the stock ROMs fix this and work wonderfully after flashing. The best solution to this is to turn off 3G to get a fix or find your city manually.

I'm feeling really stupid here, but being a glutton for punishment, I'll keep trying.
Is it possible that maybe there was something wrong with the towers here that just happened to coincide with the soft reboot after installing .NET? The reason I ask is that My Location is now correct. Yay! That would be just my luck: bad timing.
Any suggestions about the incorrect Voice Mail notification? It for sure comes back each time I power up the phone. It seems to me it also reappears at other times, but I'm not positive about that -- I'm going to try to pay better attention.

Make sure to install .NET CF 3.5 to the device and not the storage card. You'll then need to restart, if it doesn't ask you to do so. You then need to force it to use 3.5 over 2.0. Use a registry editor and navigate to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework. Change the DWORD data of entry 2.0.7045.00 from 1 to 0. Then change the DWORD data of entry 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1 and then reset. This disables 2.0 and enables 3.5.
For a decent registry editor that can be used from the PC side, check out CERegEditor if you don't already have an editor of choice.
For the voicemail problem, there are two known solutions. You can either have someone call and leave you a voicemail. You would then check it and delete it. You can also simply call your provider and have them reset your voicemail account. Either one should work.
If neither of those options works for/appeals to you, you can give this a shot. There are no guarantees that it won't come back after a soft reset, though. Using a Registry editor, navigate to the following keys:
HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Line1\Unread
HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Line2\Unread
HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Total\Unread
There should be a value name "Count" with a REG_DWORD value
Change value to 0 in decimal or 00 in Hex.
It should remove voicemail notification icon from the taskbar.

Many thanks! For the Voicemail, I used method one, and it worked
And, thanks for the instructions (and the reg edit program suggestion) to force use of .NET CF 3.5 because I missed that part -- yikes.
I'm on a dedicated mission to cut down on the elecronics I have to carry around, so I need to learn more about the features of the Tilt2 because if I can just figure things out (which I've not forced myself to do), the Tilt2 will, I think, be able to replace my PDA & iPhone.
Anyway, thanks again for your help!
