I just searched high and low in this forum for my O2 Mini Extended ROM unlocker (unlock to write to Extended ROM). Sigh.. no luck. I saw one for universal, for angel, but can't find one for my O2 Mini (Magician?).
Can someone please help point me to the right direction? Thanks!
Has anyone successfully unlocked and written on their O2 Mini's Extended ROM? Please let me know how your experience. Thanks.
This is something I am after too.
I've managed to "unhide" the Extended_ROM by doing a soft reset before it installs any of the customisations... But have not figured out how to write to it.
I have a fleet of these devices, and want overcome some problems I am having with our provider (who are not loading the correct customisations to the ext-rom after repair). I also want to place a few CABs in there to automatically install a custom application after a hard reset.
Is there an easy way to achieve this outcome?

Extended Roms???? ok i am a total n00b can anyone explain to me what these are or what you do with them?
Or at lease point me to a tutorial or info?
I also would like someone to explain what the kitchen is for?...............(& dont say cooking food ....)
any help point in the right direction would be a big help...
Thanx PPL
This is in the Wiki, I learnt from there.
Just for you, because you asked nicely, the extended ROM is what is loaded onto the phone that is non-essential to operation (basically, anything that isn't the operating system). When you hard reset, and then it starts installing software after boot; that's your extended ROM being loaded.
A lot of people make their own because they don't like/want/need the software in the extended ROM (see: O2 Active, iMate bundling Skype).
The whole cooking thing I don't really get either, I think it's just another word for rolling your own extended ROM.
Chris
Lewisham..
thanx for your help heading on over to wiki now to look a lot harder.
Cooking is all about customising your extended ROM to include the files and registry settings you want straight away after a hard reset. You will need to cook an extended ROM if you want to upgrade to 1.40 and keep your operator settings for GPRS etc.
Hi guys,
I only found this site a couple of days ago and I have already unlocked my XDA2s, stripped the O2 software, and tried out a few little tweaks.
However, I am really not confident enough yet to do anything more serious, despite being an IT & Communications engineer.
Could you please help me? I am looking for your latest ROM version to use on my XDA to completely remove the O2 stuff, hence stopping it attempting to install software after a reset. I am also missing some useful utilities, such as the battery monitor etc.
Are there any extended ROMs readily available for anyone to use, with some useful programs/utilities included?
I have looked at the wiki but don't really know what I am doing!!
Many thanks,
Bret
Oh, and I forgot to ask... is there anything available to debrand the XDA2s? I would love to stop it displaying the O2 start-up screen.
Maybe there should be an XDA-Developers start-up screen instead.
If you look through the wiki you can cusotmise your extended ROM to whatever, I ontice you have an xda 2s with vodafone- have you got any installation files (CABs) that set up GPRS, MMS for Vodafone? If not, there are cab files that are easy to add to your extended ROM, the files are here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13498&highlight=orange+mms+settings
Other useful files are things like Pocket MSN and Resco Explorer, which you have to buy, along with O2 Plus (free download - search for it, I haven't got a link!)
If you wan to make sure all the o2 rubbish is gone for good, check out the Extended ROM kitchen , find your ROM version and then unlock your extended ROM and delete all the Operator Customization CABs that install all that O2 crap.
If you want to change the startup images (better known as splash screens) have a look here...

Hi Findus,
That's brilliant, thank you. My images have been changed and the only thing O2 now is the fascia which I can't do much about unfortunately.
I have also installed the Vodafone GPRS settings but none of them work for me, not even the straight forward dialup connection. Not sure why but the same error every time just says "No modem at this location" or something like that.
Many thanks anyway, I'm much happier now. I just need to find the correct iMate ROM. The only one I can see in the Wiki is the Asian one. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
Cheers, Bret
Relative newbie to this forum extrom Version editing
How can I edit my version numbers of the extrom now that I have it the way I want(sorta)?
One other other question, I have all the registry settings for my personalizations, how to I place those in the Extrom to be invoke after a hard reset. Do I create a cab file for this like the other programs or can I just exec REGEDIT4 personalized.reg? I also can not seem to find where the speed dial entries are stored.
Hya everyone
Im really new to all this pda stuff
I have a t-mobile MDA compact.
But have an o2 Simcard.
The sim works on the mda, so its obviously unlocked.
I have done that hard reset , then reset trick so none of t-mobiles programs are loaded.
But if I add a new connection for o2 payandgo UK settings, It wont let me connect to the internet.
Ive been told I need to download:
O2Mini_WWE_1.11.922.zip
Which I have!
But have no idea what files to download to my mda, to completely turn it to an o2
:x Im ripping my hair out here

Hya thanx for helping,
Though im still confused?

If you want to put them on a universal, look at the O2 Exec rom.

Hi!
sorry, if i´m in the wrong thread and please excuse my english :?
i´ve got a "n00b" question concerning the branding of a MDA Pro/QTek 9000/HTC Universal.
Please correct me if i´m wrong:
The branding is performed after a hardreset and can be interuppted via a softreset after rebooting.
the branding also includes the network parameters for UMTS/GPRS/MMS/SMS/etc...
Is there a *.CAB file where all these configuration information is stored?
if not - how is the configuration done?
why i´m asking this:
i want to update my ROM, but i don´t want to enter all configs by hand...
Thanks in advance for your help
there is indeed a cab file for this
i dont know which one it is for your provider... i only know which one it is for the dutch t-mobile settings
you could find wich one it is:
1) copying the current extended rom to your SD card
2) hard reset and soft reset before the custimazation or update to new rom (incl. extended rom)
3) start the 1st cab file and install
4) check if settings are made
5) go to step 3 and use the next cab file, until you found the one that does the correct settings you want.
6) use it in the new rom (put it in extended rom or keep it in SD card)
alternatively you could install the new rom without the extended rom
[edit]
gprs and mms probably have different cabs, they do in the t-mobile rom, so search till you know which cabs you want
hi bartjan!
thanks for your reply. i also got t-mobile. could it be that there is a naming convention for the files ?
do you know which one(s) did it for you?
i want to get the brand out of the MDA - thats the main reason why i want to flash. would it make sense then to flash without the ext_ROM ?
thanks
cab-customization-tmnl-universal-01-03-04aug05.cab
signed_uni_tmonl_conn_112101.cab
signed_uni_tmonl_set_111101.cab
these are the ones i use for my tmnl (T-Mobile NetherLands) settings
one is for my internet, one for MMS and i dont remember what the tird one for is. dont remember which does which also
if you want the brand out you shouldnt flash without the extended rom indeed.
you could remove the extended rom in this rom (and keep warranty) or flash entirely and use a better and faster rom with aku2 and a2dp support if needed.
Depends also on which bits of branding you want to get rid of.
First, there's the physical printings of tmobile on the alu plate and next to the screen and keyboard. The one on the alu plate can allegedly be removed with a sugarcube without damaging the alu underneath, but that doesn't work for the others.
Second, there's the "t-mobile" screen that pops up as, as it were, the BIOS screen, which is a special part of the OS rom and which you can change using some utilities found around here. Comes up before windows is booted, and then it will get the rom version superimposed on it, and only then you move on to the next bit:
The t-mobile screen while windows is booting, which is also part of the OS ROM (I think) but in the regular filesystem somewhere (?).
Then fourth there's the t-mobile 'theme', pink and white everywhere and a special today screen. That can be turned off in settings>today. The actual presence of the theme is again in OS rom, but the extended rom as its first action actually turns it on. You can easily edit that out of the config.txt in the extended rom if you want (it's the exec cusTSK.exe line).
Then there's the t-mobile Today screen plugin with the 5 icons. Not entirely sure when that comes on. I think it should be extended rom but I can't find it in any of those cabs. Experiment.
And then there's a whole load of other subtler stuff.
hi!
many thanks for the replies!
going to sync. my mda tomorrow - maybe the files are the same (except the language part)
removing the branding on the plates doesn´t interest me 8)
just software branding is what i get rid of.
going to get the qtek rom (1.3x.xx) but first of all i have to check which bootloader i got. don´t know at the moment.
thanks for the tips removing the "branding screens and themes" maybe i´ll need it for the qtek rom?!
i would like the rom because of speed, i don´t want to listen to "stereo" music via bluetooth and at the moment i don´t need push email (especially looking at the battery times when using it)
thanks and have a nice day
The Qtek rom doesn't have numbers 3, 4, and 5, just number 2 (except that it says QTEK, of course), but that's relatively easily rectified and also a fairly minor problem, given that it only shows up for 10 seconds or so, only after a reset.
thanks!
didn´t have time this weekend to sync. maybe i´ll get it this week.
thanks for the replies!

Hi All,
I have tried to unlock the CID on my MDA Pro using aWizard, and I get an error.
The process reads out ok, untill it has to copy the cidunlocker.bin file - which fails to copy. The reason is because the system cannot find it.
The aim of all this is to bump off T-Mobile's ROM and stick a fresh Qtek ROM onto it, since I've heard its more responsive and the Battery icons etc are a bit nicer :?
Could someone please help me out? I have googled for "cidunlocker.bin" and found 7 results, 5 were in italian (which I dont speak )
Thanks alot,
Rich
I recently upgraded my O2 Xda Exec with the imate JJ rom (ROM Version: 1.30.82 WWE). But after a hard reset, I keep getting the following error:
Code:
Can not run on this device.
Upon investigating, I have discovered that the pocket arabizer cabs are installed during the customization after a hard reset. The similar rom (and the mentioned cabs) are working flawlessly on my other universal (imate jasjar) but on my O2, i keep getting the above error (i.e. can not run on this device). Is there a way to get the arabizer cabs to working nicely with my O2? Help in this regard would be appreciated.
help, please help. just say something. just kiddin'
hopefully, someone will come along and offer some valuable help.
T-Mobile is doing the same thing
My T-Mobile MDA Pro is doing the sme thing, it must be a way to tell the ROM that my T-Mobile is a JasJar...and I have used the "no_ID" and it did not work...
HELP
The imate roms (dont know if only from the Jasjar) have something builtin (don't know if cab file in extrom or in the rom itself) that only allows installation on imate jasjars. I think its some sort of list or program which checks the imei.
My observations so far are:
1. I have tried a custom extended rom, specially designed to avoid any cabs that might check the imei. This meant using a custom config file and autorun file from O2.
2. Only IMEI checking cab I have found so far is the 'Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.80_range.cab' -- it is CA Antivirus software. I think it checks the IMEI.
3. I have tried with certain telco provided cabs (e.g. Mobily, Etisalat_UAE, etc.), to see if this works. It doesn't.
4. What does Install_tsk.exe do?
5. I have tried with different rom, but extended rom from imate JJ, but that doesn't work either.
6. Is there a way to fix this problem? I have seen this problem with several other people in this forum, but no concrete solution is found yet.
7. Can somebody else confirm that, indeed there is some IMEI checking in the imate roms?
8. being able to use the imate JJ roms on O2 indicates that there is no IMEI checking in the ROM itself.
9. Help is desparetly needed.

JasJar on T-Mobile
I have tried everything since I got my T-Mobile and I installed like 100 ROMs trying to make my T-Mobile MDA Pro thinks that it is a JasJar...but no luck...
I have installed the WWE JasJar with no problem, I think the problem is installing the ME version with Arabizer and the AntiVirus software...and yes it does check the IMEI number...
My T-Mobile now officially an O2 but it seems like it refused to think that it is a localized version of the iMate JasJar.
Is there a way that makes my T-Mobile thinks it is a JasJar????
this seems to be an issue with a lot of people. can we have some experts to help us out?
IT CAN NOT BE DONE...SORRY

Click to collapse
I think that the "Arabizer" developers had locked in the software to work only on the iMates...with specific IMEI numbers, I have installed the WWE ROM on my T-Mobile and it works fine but when I install the ME ROM it does not work...
I AM GIVING UP...
