WM5 Active Sync - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

After upgrading to wm5 my first active sync took 90 min. Is this normal? How will future sync's be (I hope it will be much faster)? Can any1 please advise on any ways too speed this process up. Have set my firewall (Bit defender) to allow access to active sync. Not sure what else I can do. It always seems to hang on contacts, calender and email sync. THANKS!!!

work a round
the only work around solution I could find was to use microsoft firewall. Now my pda syncs quickly...

WM6 Syncing Conundrum... Please help / advise!

So... I probably should have researched this a little more before I decided to take the WM6 plunge... but... I didn't...
So haha - here's my situation. I have two computers I can use to sync this too. I use my mac regularly with missing sync. Well, i USED it regularly... But... Missing Sync doesn't work with WM6.
Okay so then there's the work PC. I got the newest version of active sync. However, Active Sync 4.5 doesn't work with Outlook 2000 - crap.
Am I totally screwed or is there a workaround? Can I set Activesync to sync with windows xp address book instead of outlook? Please help!
Sync problem
If you have the Excalibur, it should have come with a copy of outlook 2002... why not try and install that and see if that resolves your problem.
I have the T-mobile Dash, not the excalibur... While i'm fine with doing anything on the mac, i'd rather not mess too badly with the default apps on the windows PC.

WM6 & Missing Sync for Windows

I sync to Mac and so use Missing Sync from Markspace.
This worked well with WM5 Roms indeed, IMO more user friendly than ActiveSync.
The changes made in WM6 means that device will only look for PC with ActiveSync on (for security issues?) and so Missing Sync won't connect.
Markspace are dealing with this issue and in time will re-write to solve this issue however, it leaves me with a serious problem at the moment and possibly for some consderable time!
Has anyone managed to work around this issue, if so could you let me know.
Thanks

I can think of only one way, but you need Entourage on your Mac.
(1) Set up an account with 4smartphone.net
(2) Have Entourage sync with 4smartphone
(3) Have your Hermes sync with 4smartphone.
This works like magic. LIKE MAGIC I tell you. You change something on your Hermes, and - look ma, no hands - you go back to your Mac and the info has changed there too. And the other way around! and it is all pushed! GEEK HEAVEN.
They offer a trial period ... might just be long enough for MarkSpace to come up with a solution.
If you have Office for Mac installed, but do not use Entourage but instead use iCal, then you need to set up Entourage to sync with the iCal database. The option is somewhere in Entourage.
That's well and good, but only a partial solution. Entourage only syncs Email, Contacts and Calendar with an Exchange server. You'll still be missing out on Tasks, Notes, iPhoto and iTunes which Missing Sync takes care of nicely. I do hope MarkSpace works it out soon, but that's not likely to happen until there are some shipping WM6 devices available in the States...
I second that...
Man I really really need Missing Sync again!!!! I'm sure we're not the only ones
Is there a way to hack and reverse that security feature?
Cooks and cooders we can put a bounty on this!
Thanks for your advice nispen. I Have sorted out 4smartphone account as i run Entourage. I have had partial success in that have been able to sync to an exchange server but must have made a mistake somewhere as contacts in entourage are not being updated. This said, I have been able to get all addresses in one place - on phone and in Mac Address book so at least I'm halfway there!
Like spidy.web says, as the problem ultimatly likes within WM6 being secure - someone out there might be able to solve this problem - a reg edit or something?

Gmail won't work in IE

Hi Everyone,
I tried login Gmail on Tilt 2 in an AT&T store, but Gmail weblink wouldn't open. However, Google shows I'm already login, just Gmail wouldn't show up on the IE browser. Could someone try it and let me know?
Thank you,
Tom.
To get gmail to work I had to use the HTML version of GMail. Why don't you just sync your gmail account with your phone?
Using iPhone for a year and half I see a big advantage of moving away from activesync... Not only Activesync, but also MS Outlook is not as dependable as I'd like it to be. For business use, I use Gmail and Toodledo to navigate around daily tasks, therefore 3G speed and a big screen with keyboard is real important to me ^_^
That's interesting. I have used Windows Mobile Active sync for my business email over the last 2 years and 2 companies. I have never had an issue with it. I can not speak for IPhone because I am not a fan in the first place. If you are uncomfortable using active sync I would recommend two solutions.
1. use the html version of gmail.
2. use skyfire browser. As I understand it your data is passed through a intermediate server in this solution so I personally avoid viewing critical websites on it like banks. Someone can correct me if I am wrong here.

In what way are they not reliable...or are you just throwing around FUD?
What is FUD? I could probably elaborate a little more on the unreliable MS sync process. I've been using PDA since the first generation, and I'm grateful of the bluetooth sync. However, as I realized, sometimes, it just wouldn't sync due to bluetooth problem. So the bluetooth is the first problem, it could the interference from the headset, GPS, but it only 85% to 90% of the time for me only. Second, configuring the port on Activesync is just as not as simple especially when I was using a separate GPS unit. Sometimes even when I plug in the sync cable, it wouldn't sync. This happened to both my HP6315 and Palm Treo 750. Third, once a year, or once every other year, my laptop would crash due to many reasons, and take my outlook data with it (contacts, tasks, e-mails). Whatever I didn't sync or backup (few minutes or few days), data is lost. Just to keep up with the constant syncing bothers me... By the way, I don't have exchange...
Which all is resolved when I switch to Gmail... and use Outlook for backup purpose only. I store my contact info with Gmail, never have to worry about data lost. It also automatically sync with my iPhone every time I use use Contact. In a few situations when Gmail is down, I still have all of my info on the iPhone. It is the convenience that I like. And, I'd like to retain it when I'm switching to the Tilt 2...
Thank you,
Tom.
I had the same trouble with the stock AT&T ROM installed. I had to disable the proxy in order for Gmail to open via Opera or IE.
If I recall correctly, you can access it by going to settings > connections and then tapping "disable proxy". I don't have the stock ROM installed anymore so I can't be sure, but poke around the settings to find it.
The only downside is that you won't be able to access the AT&T specific things like media net or AT&T wifi hotspots, but you can just re-enable the proxy if you need to.
Edit: I forgot to mention - for backing up your contacts and such, check out Microsoft's My Phone service.

Oh so you're talking about actual ActiveSync, not Exchange Server ActiveSync which is really what you should be using for business e-mail, but I guess $12/mo for hosted Exchange is just way too much for your business.
Mmmm... why would I want to pay $12/mo when Gmail supports it for free? And it does all the things that I need... I'm sorry I have no experience with Exchange, and our company doesn't have IT to support it. The main thing I like about web Gmail is I could access two years worth of e-mail any time any where as long as I have 3G connection. The setup is easy, and no attachment is saved on the MicroSD, so I don't have to worry about running out of disk space. Of course, this is the iPhone version. I'm just going by the Occam's Razor, simpler the better

how to get google contacts/calender on tp2 6.5

hello,
i flashed to 6.5 official and i was wondering if there is any easy way to sync all of my data calender and contacts to my phone now, im really used to the google system. and yes im coming from a g1
Google sync
unfortunately google sync for Windows mobile is a big pile of pooo.
It would sync once, after that you will most likely encounter a problem on scheduled syncs.
At least in my case, i would sync it once installed a new ROM, then delete the exchange settings from the Active sync. This will stop you from going crazy after several failed attempts to synchronize after
Can't you just set up the mobile exchange feature of Google? Not to use a bad word, but my Wiff's iphone is set up that way and all contacts/calendar/email are in perfect sync with her google account? I just selected the "Exchange" configuration.
I have to admit that I have yet to try it with my TP2... I would think if anything it would work just as well
I'm syncing my contact, calendar and mails via active sync protocoll too and it works fine (using google as like as an exchange server, not the separate google sync program).
but it seems you have to exclude items from syncing which you have not activated yet: i don't use "Tasks" in my google account, and until i deactivated it in the exchange/AS settings, i got sync errors. but after deactivating "Tasks"-syncing i never got errors again...
It should be the the same procedure if other components are unused, because if you create a googlemail-mailbox, you'll get contacts too, but no tasks nor calendar. those have be created/activated manually in your google account.
thankS! that removing tasks made it work. although i cant seem to see my contacts. do u think i have it set up where it wont import the google contacts for any reason?
THis may be obvious, but under activesync, make sure that you have Contacts checked off..I don't know if they are all enabled by default
yes that one is selected. i have a lot of contacts that i dont want to manually set up again please let me know if anyone has had this problem and resolved it or thinks they can help me.
but so far i really like this phone!
UPDATE: restarted phone and works even better now! ALL my contacts and now I have 3G instead of H

Alternative to Active Sync

Hi everyone,
I've been looking for an alternative to Active Sync for quite some time, but I'm unable to find one.
My problem is this: I sync my google calendar and contacts through Active Sync, but it very (very!) often says that 'there has been a changed made on the server' which means i have to resync everything... This also requires a manual response (i have to press ok or cancel), which means it won't sync without me doing something.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem, either in Active Sync or by proposing an alternative to Active Sync?
I would be very(!) gratefull
I only just started using ActiveSync with Google to sync contacts/calendar/email...but so far I am happy and do not receive the popup you say you have. Am running a DannyTech Evo 6.5.x rom.
