Hi,
I've just updated my M2000 to WM5 and have followed the guide of wiki to install TomTom 5.1, but despite running the correct voice.cab file, TomTom doesn't register that it's installed, i've checked that the files copy over to the TomTom directory, and have even tried replacing the files using copies from my friends PPC2003 installation that works perfectly.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Andy
Weird. I have tried several of those voice files, and they all work. Have you by any chance installed to a memory card? That doesn't seem to work very well.
map is on sd card, but all the other progs i've installed to the main memory. I've only tried voice05 but as far as I'm aware that is Jane/UK which is what I want.
Cheers,
Andy
You have to make an extra directory tomtom in the \tomtom map.
\tomtom\tomtom\ and in here the sound files *.chk
Belsj
I have tried copying the .chk file to both \TomTom\TomTom as well as \TomTom and \Storage Card\Great-Britain-Map\TomTom and none of these have worked. Is there something else I should be doing?
Cheers,
Andy
In total you have to copy 4 files
mobile device\tomtom\CurrentMap.dat
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.bmp
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.chk
\Program Files\navigator\data.chk
\Program Files\navigator\tomtom navigator.exe
\Program Files\navigator\navigator.cfg
that's all.
data05.bmp and .chk is for example, you can choose one of your own voices.
Look this up on your device other wise i send you my files so you can try them.
Good Luck

Hello,
i have precisely the same problem.
Tried everything mentioned here without success.
Where do i find that *.bmp file? Its not located in the voice folder on the original cd. Ive put the voice cab file from the cd on my storage card and it installed fine, it installed the mentioned files except for that *.bmp file ( wich i assume is just a stupid bitmap?). I moved those files according to above instructions - no success.
Any help is much appreciated.
I fixed it,
make sure that theres just one copy of those *.chk files on your pda. Delete all copies in other folders except those in the \tomtom\tomtom folder.
Worked for me, i hope it helps you.
Hi
I wonder if somebody could give me some pointers on how to modify software installtion CAB's so that I can load them into extended ROM so that on a hard reset they automatically install & register..
For example SPB GPS monitor. I've downloaded the CAB and install file. I have installed it to my MDA,registered it and downloaded the tariff file.
Now, I can find the tariff registry file and update the CAB file (using WinCAB). Also, I can search for the registration files in the registry an add those to the CAB file.
But how do I automatically install to the device or storage card without having to specify?? Has anybody customised the install CAB's???
Cheers
John
Well for doing this u must do the following:
1) unhide the extended_rom
2) unlock it
3) view it with a third party program
4) copy into it the .cab u want
5) edit config.txt in extended_rom so it will run the .cab u want.
But the most important thing u must do.... it took me 2 days to find it out and over 20 hard reset... is to first run a .cab file that it will disable the wm5 security. When u install a program not to ask u if it is not authorized.
That is it...
I cannot find a working cab to disable the WM5 security.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks for that. But I have no problem with modifying the extended ROM. What I wanted to know was is there a way that when a CAB file is run from extended ROM it will be installed to the device/Storage card and be registered, withour having to enter anything during installation.
I guess I could look for the Registry entries and make those into a CAB file, I wondered if the program installation CAB could be mofified in any way??
Cheers

Im pretty new here and just got my BA not tooo long ago...I used to be a trreo user now im hooked on my BA.
I see alot of software that comes in a form of a cab file...does anyone know how I can load that software on my BA? thanks alot!
hey mate and welcome!
if you put the cab file in your pc folder; you'll see that the description is "zip file"....that's because it's the only format microsoft recognizes...in a way its also true as the cab file is a compiled program ready for installation. what you do is DON'T unzip the file in your pc; rather cut/copy and paste it directly in your ba (via activesync or in your sd card). put it in a folder that's easy to find; say "my documents...personal" (or you can make your own folder to put in cab files). use your ba's file explorer and go to the folder...from there double click (via stylus) on the cab file and it will automatically install itself. btw, if you copied the cab file in your sd card you can also execute the installation there....no need to paste it in your my documents area.
if you're using wm2005; upon execution the unit will ask you if you want to install it in the sd card or internal memory....that's really up to you depending on the size of the file you're installing.
hope that helps

thanks alot Robson.
Ive always looked past cab file programs b/c i couldnt install it. I hope this thread helps other newbies too. I searched and couldnt find an answer.
is there anyway that can install cab files direct from pc to ppc?
sorry for the late response; was in china for a week.
unfortunately, no. i don't think there's a way to install cab files via pc. if you do unzip a cab file; you'll notice that the files are something like:
0000124
009890
or something like that....can be as many as 20 lines of code...but scanning through the entire zip will not give you any .exe files which can be executed via pc. if you have a card reader installed on your laptop, simply copy and paste the cab file on your sd and from there install via your ppc
hope that helps

it seems that i asked this b4....
but i still have problems...
the scenario now is
1. i put autorun.exe and config.exe in "/storage card/essential/" folder
2. i put cabs into that folder
3. i edit the config.txt so that it points to these cabs
......but above did not work. nothing happen when clicking autorun.exe
did i miss something??
or the cab has to be remake?
those cab are just normal cab that ask where to install.
one more thing, can CPY function work with "*.*" command or does it support copying folders?
Hi,
There is already a thread on this topic.
Look here.

i have read this thread
but i m not making a ext rom now....
i wanna run the autorun.exe on SD card instead of extrom
actually i just want to make a batch installer not ext rom
could anyone help help on this?
Just make a shortcut to the autorun.exe on the SD card, and put it in Windows\Startup folder. BUT, make sure you delete it after it runs, or remove the SD card before rebooting, or you will have multiple installs...
@drummer10630
coz i put all the cad and sutorun.exe in SD card
is that mean autorun.exe cannot run manually?
I never tried it, but are there any disadvantages to the method I suggested?
i just tried it..but it dosent work
..wondering if autorun can only be executed in extrom
hi
any news? i have the same problem/
thanks
Is there a way to modify, hexedit, hack an app that is hard coded to the Windows directory in the devices memory and redirect it to run from the SD card?
I've tried using Windows live Mobile from the SD card and it says some thing about trusted certificates or that it cannot find it's files.
I tried Hex editing the exe to change the directory from "\Windows\" to "\Storage Card\" but it doesn't work.
My devices is getting low on storage memory and i need to install every app from now on to the SD card.
Another app that has some dll's in the windows folder is Skype Mobile,i also tried hex editing it to change the path is looks at it's dlls, but didn't also didn't work.
Tried with CECabManager but i figured it's not the cab who gives the app the directory's to its files, they are coded inside the app itself.
Anyone has managed to run Skype,Windows Live Messenger or any other app that is hard coded into Windows folder to run from the SD Card?
Cheers,Anti.
Not sure about Windows Live Messenger (since it's stuck in rom), but for programs installed by cabs, I'm pretty sure there's a registry entry that deals with which real folders are the shell folders (for example Program Files would be "/Program Files"), You can change that, but do it before you install the cab. Incidently, you might have trouble with existing programs that use /Windows and when you soft reset, but this is not confirmed.
The thing is i have tried to run the app without installing the cab file.
I extracted the software from the cab and ran it from the sd card and it still din't find its files.
Nope,Din't work.
I edited the cab and It's registry to %InstallDir% but it did not work.
Has any one had any luck doing this?
Anyone done or tried this?
