slight p[roblem ive noticed windows mobile 5 on xda IIS - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

hi i finally upgraded my rom to wm2005 but ive noticed an mp3 playback issue it keeps speeding up and jogging! any body know how to fix this i tried to allocate more memory to programs but its all changed in the new version
TIA

I have the same problem with my XDA iis after upgrading to WM5, audio is very jerky. Generally, the performance of the phone is very poor - it takes a long time to populate the list of programs in the today screen.

Does anyone have a patch fo Windows Media Player in Tuma 1.3? Under the Himalaya ports it worked fine but in the Wizard ports it's stuttery. It's the main reason I am still using the old Wizard ports.
If you press play and then press pause and leave it on pause for 30-60 seconds everything will play fine. It seems to need time to buffer.

ill give it a shot, the only reason i upgraded to WM5 tuma 1.3 is so that when i play mp3s i can lock the device without the WMP closing as in WM2003 or leaving the device unlocked when walking round listening to mp3s then having to close everything thats opened

Slow Micro SDHC card in Windows Mobile 6.1

Ok, so I've upgraded my ROM to try both Kavana's latest ROM, Rickywatt's v24 vanilla and v24 no opera ROM all with the same issues.
I purchased a Class-4 8GB micro-SDHC card, and loaded it up to almost full of music, and here are my symptoms:
- WMP will Play the music after 30-60 lag between clicks and songs.
- The HTC audio software won't even play a song. I get it into the library and it is incredibly slow. When I click a track to play it, the handheld practically locks.
- While a song is playing, the entire system is bogged down.
Here is what I've tried:
- I've tried putting all the music (3500 tracks) into a single "Music" folder on the card
- I've also tried putting all the music into individual folders by author which effectively reduces the amount of files in one single folder.
Any ideas? Has anyone else gotten a class 4 SDHC card of any size to work properly, or get an 8gb card to work without lagging down the system?

All i can say is get a SanDisk not a generic.
Thanks for the input but this is a Kingston branded card. Kingston is a reputable company, and not generic in the least.
Does anyone have any advice besides "get a different card?"
My 2GB non-SDHC works fine without any lag... of course it's a smaller capacity.

Sorry just persumed that it was generic due to the problem.
Format your card to fat32.
Thanks for the suggestion on the formatting. Vista says that it's currently formatted into FAT32... It came that way from the factory, but I am thinking about reformatting it from my phone... perhaps it doesn't like the size of the FAT tables.
Ummm try formatting it through an xp computer and see if that helps.
what format are your music files? have you tried loading less then 3000+ songs...maybe 50 and see if the problem persists.
have you tried a standard 1 or 2 gig micro card?
and go get tcpmp or core player...
is anything else slow? movie file? just navigating around the phone? any lag?
Yeah, something is funny with the formatting, because when I went to delete off all but 50 or so songs I would select all of the songs, and delete them but Windows would refresh with more songs that weren't "visible" before. I am reformatting the card right now, and then I will see if 50 files works. If that works I'll proceed with more songs.
The songs are MP3 format without DRM encoded into 128kbps. They all play just fine on my 2GB card and on my Laptop.
I'll try TCPMP if those don't work.
If I am not accessing that music through a player or file explorer, then the phone is not slow or sluggish at all. I've taken pictures with the phone and have no problems there. I have not tried playing video, but I suspect it would be fine too.
I reformatted the card into FAT32 (32Kb allocation units) and put a couple hundred songs on it. It was responsive and without error, so I filled it up with music and here is what I get now:
- Windows Media Player will play the songs but with a 30-60 second delay between button presses (play/pause, next back)
- HTC Audio Manager locks and exits to the home screen when a song is clicked on to play (after about 10 sec).
-TCPMP will run and add all of the songs to the playlist, and switches songs with only a short (4 sec) delay between songs.
Even though TCPMP runs acceptably, I consider this only a workaround. Does anyone else have ideas about how to get the HTC Audio Manager working? I am running Rickywatt's Vanilla v24 ROM of WM 6.1...
This is probably content for another post but I was surprised that the vanilla ROM isn't very vanilla. It still has a lot of software imbedded into the ROM.
I've noticed a similar problem myself with my Dash.
I recently got an 8 GB Sandisk class 4 microSDHC card for my Dash (Ricky's rom) with the intention of using it (in tandem with my Jabra 8010 bt stereo headset) as my main music player.
I only have 739 songs on it right now (less than half full) and here's what I've found:
-Windows Media Player has several problems:
---MAJOR lag (30 sec.) when switching tracks, bringing up the menu, etc.
---Tags in the library are messed up. I might end up with 3 album listings for the same album, some tracks are not associated with their albums or artists, etc.
-HTC Audio Manager works great! No lag at all between tracks and correctly reads all my tags (even the ones that WMP messes up).
-TCPMP works good, no problems with it, it's interface is just not optimal for music listening at all. It just crashes the phone whenever I try to blank the screen.
-Pocket Tunes is a wonderful player. It works great with no problems and has great playlist support. It has been my favorite music player on my Palm OS devices for many years; sadly, my trial period is ending soon for the WM version and I really can't justify spending the $37.95 for it.
So, in short, I'm using HTC's Audio Manager for now because WMP is so horribly slow. I just wish that it had a way to blank the screen like WMP does.
I do remember WMP working great when I had my smaller card, so is it just a problem with the library size?
After doing some more testing, and TCPMP isn't as bug free as I thought. I have to create and save a playlist of all the songs, then open TCPMP from that playlist for it to work... otherwise it loads for like 5 minutes and crashes the phone.
I did get HTC Audio manager to work, but that's only from a fresh reboot of the phone and it only works until I exit the app. Here is my guess unless someone else comes up with a better answer:
- WM 6.1 on a 186MHz processor isn't going to be able to quickly index and deliver the 3500+ songs on the 8GB card... This would explain why 400 songs worked fine.
- Perhaps there is a buffer size limit or some other registry hack that can be done to make the file indexing work better for large directories.
youre gonna have to accept that wmp is kinda junk
and tcpmp is the champ.
Ok, I can buy that, but it still doesn't help that TCPMP and Audio Manager still aren't working to the capacity that I need them to.
I'd say Windows Media Player is the problem. However, what's bit rate of you mp3? 320k? Have you tried lower bit rate? Or, even encode with WMA? I know, re-encoding sounds like a big job, do it over night while you're sleeping...
Good point. All of the files are already 128kbps encoded. Also, the problems are existing in more than just WMP. It is also a problem in TCPMP and HTC Audio Manager.
Lately I have been playing around with cooking my own version of The Rose 1.6 ROM that Stylez and Rickwyatt are working on. All I'm doing is removing files and programs that I don't use. It seems like the more I remove, the less of a delay I experience on the song loading and playing. I think the issue is with the amount of memory available.
Guys,
My phone, WM 6.1, HTC S621, does accept my SDHC 4gb card, but it doesnt play anything thru player! I've tried core player, htc audio manage, windows media player, no luck.. =(
There's no problem with the speak on the phone, it works perfectly.. Can anyone help me? Anyone encountered such problem?
Thank you
===Update===
The card works with with tmobile wing, no problem.
Both phones have WM 6.1, in both the card is recognized.. But there's no sound coming out of htc s621.. sigh..

problems with AVRCP on the TP2 using BT stereo headset!

has anyone had the same problem as I have with bluetooth stereo headsets?
when I pair up my device with the headsets and start listening to musich on windows media everything ist just fine, the problem is when I pause the music while the phone is in standby mode, when I press play again, nothing happens, it works again after I press the power button ..this is annoying, normally this shouldn't be happening....does anybody know what the problem is??? thanx in advance!
The bt3030, is that the dogtag one? Because I use that one without the problem you describe with my Dutch stock TP2.
yes thats the same one....the dogtag one... but I also have the BT620s also from jabra...and it has the same problem...if I leave the phone for longer than 5 seconds in pause it wont play again after I hit the play button...when I hit the power button then it will automatically start playing again...but its annoying to have to hit the standby button so it recognizes the phone again...are you using WM player or another player? or are you using the manila player?
Turns out I have the same problem...
Just tested it, and you are right! If you wait a couple of seconds it won't resume playing (using wmp). I don't have a clue about why though. I was already quite happy it worked (kinda) as on my HTC Elf avrcp didn't work most of the time and A2DP was also very patchy. Looks like HTC needs to look into their BT programming.
I've used Jabra with 3 devices already, and its the first time I experience this problem and its REALLy annoying cause you have to take the phone out of your pocket in order to turn on the screen so it resumes the music... it must be a problem with the bluetooth stack...but I have no idea about that..hopefully more people experience this problem and somebody finds a solution...
Another BT problem
But it should probably in a different thread. I sometimes experience a lapse in the BT connection: the headset and phone temporarily become disconnecrted so the audio is rerouted through the phone's speakers, which is quite embarrassing in a quiet train or library! The connection often is re-established after a few moments. Have you experienced this kind of behaviour?
yes I also have...but this usually happens when your listening the to music and receive a call...so the music is automatically silenced, then when you hang up the music plays again but it comes out through the speakers.....but only after calls....and only sometimes...yes its quite embarrasing, but I guess it can't work perfectly....i think the play button problem is worse...and I can't find anything in other threads....apparently we're the only ones that have this problem, or that have noticed it...maybe we should look in the TOUCH HD thread, or the diamond II threads....

I can assure you that TP2 is NOT alone. It's very common ONLY for HTC device. I have the same problem w/ ATT Tilt (HTC Kaiser) and Sony X1 (tested w/ MANY A2DP devices) and such problem was not happen to my Asus P525 and Eten M600. And I think I saw posts for the same problem for HD, TP1 and Diadmond too

Preventing "sleep" while audio streaming?

Have had a TMO TP2 for about a month now, using the stock TMO rom, at least for now until the WinMo 6.5 stuff settles down a bit and I can make a good ROM choice.
The problem: Listening to streaming audio from the net (either over WiFi or mobile network, no difference) using either the wired or BT headset (no difference in behavior) on battery power. The phone will go to sleep and interupt the audio after the normal sleep timer expires. Only solution I have found is to keep touching the screen or other activity to keep the phone "awake", quite irritating. All other media feature operate as expected.
I use primarily Windows Media Player or Kinoma Play for the audio streaming. I have not tried to duplicate using local media files or the TF3D audio app since I don't store local media files on the phone. (have other devices and services for that, MS realease Zune software for WinMo for goodness sake!)
I used my previous WinMo phones like this with no problem (TMO Wing and MDA with various factory and cooked ROMS) with no issue like this. There seems to be a registry setting or some other tweak missing that tells the phone not to sleep when media is actively being played but I don't know where to find that setting.
Yeah, I could switch to a cooked ROM but that seems to be a "nuke it from orbit" solution when a simple "surgical strike" could do the trick.
Ideas anyone?
Have you installed the S2U2 sliding lock app?
http://www.conduits.com/products/player/
I'm having this exact same problem & have been trying to find the registry key for several weeks. I'm also assuming it's a simple registry entry as my previous Palm Treo 700wx never shut off when streaming music no matter what application I used. Now with the Touch Pro 2 it shuts off based on the control panel power settings even while streaming music. I know I can set the power option to never sleep, but if I do that my battery would drain much quicker. Also lots of times I'll forget to turn that option back on once I'm done streaming & it's very inconvenient. I'm currently using TCPMP to get around this problem, but would like to find a solution so it's not application specific.
did anyone figure this one out?
Regedit the following dword value:
Code:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\BattPowerOff
Set it to 0 and soft-reset.
I have the same problem with S2U2 installed. The reg setting is there and i set S2U2 not to kill the power when locking.

This is what the cab a few posts back actually changes.

Thanks! Good to know. A very simple registry edit.
I havent used this but has anyone used this when not using a wav file and has it gone to sleep. I just use "turn the light off" cab and screen lock combo to stream.

Sense Music tab stops playing after a short time

I have never been able to get my music tab functioning correctly on my device. Whenever I try to play a music file, it will play for about 1-2 minutes and then it just stops playing. It usually seems to happen around 1:45. It isn't just that it loses sound, the time stops counting up and everything. The only way to get it to start playing again is to actually stop the playback and start it over again. The problem only occurs when I try
to use the music tab. WMP, TCPMP, MortPlayer, etc are all fine.
This issue has gone on pretty much since I got my phone last year. I believe that at one time in the past it DID seem to get resolved but I have no idea what was different or what ROM I was running at the time.
Preventing the phone from turning the screen off (my first thought) does not appear to extend the time before it stops. Having the phone plugged in also has no effect. It happens using BT audio as well as the phone's speakers. This issue has persisted across multiple ROM versions and cooks. I have been running mostly EnergyROM lately but have also encountered it with Valkyrie and others.
If anyone has any good ideas on how to fix this I would be grateful. It has gotten to the point that I just ignore the music tab entirely if I don't actively remove it from Sense, but it would be nice to be able to use it.
I'm assuming you're playing your music off of the SD card? Does it behave the same when you play files from the onboard memory?
same here and yeah im running it off the SD card. help please
I too am having the exact same problem.
I have had the problem, but I found out that Opera was also always open when this happens, and I just assumed that the system was running out of memory, so I just play music when Im doing NOTHING else when using the Sense player, but the Alternative is to just use WMplayer or TCMP or Nitrogen
well sense the new cht has the music player on the homescreen i find it very nice and usefull and wmp does take up any memory while the htc sense doesnt..so yeah =/

Leave mp3 playing when turning off?

I've just flashed to the Jacko ROM, and am finding that if an mp3 podcast is playing it stops if I press the power button to turn off the screen. Does anyone know how I can configure WM to keep playing the podcast when I press the power button?
I was facing a similar problem with my origninal HTC TPII which came with default T-mobile ROM version.
I upgraded to the following ROM version today and I can now play the music in my media player while turning the device to sleep mode.
ROM Name : WWE RHODIUM Cookie Energy style
ROM Version : 03.Jul.2010 WWE
ROM date: 03/15/10
RADIO Version : 3.45.25.14
May be you can try the above ROM and see if it helps you..
Thanks for the suggestion. Funnily enough I just switched from the Energy ROM to Jackos ROM, mainly because it leaves me with 20Mb extra program memory! I'm not keen to go back to the Energy ROM for this reason.
Thanks for the reply.. I am a newbie and like mentioned earlier, I tried installing the Energy ROM today itself.. I have yet to try the other ROM's and will try them step by step once I am convinced which is better..
Your explanation gives me a valid reason to try Jackos ROM very soon..
Tried to help you, seems I got some additional knowledge.. Thanks again..
Haha, again a funny thread xD
I guess your problems with playing music while suspended are related to SD card problems. Format them, copy your music back to a folder and see if it works! I had never problems with playing music and turning my device off 0.o And I'm listing a lot to music with my headphones or BT headset while traveling.
Why not install the Sk_customs Keep the music playing .cab. It does exactly what you want without changing the rom.

Thanks for the suggestion. OK I just reformatted the memory card then copied everything back to it. Same problem - music stops when I turn off the screen.
Where can I find Sk_customs Keep the music playing? I've never heard of it before.
I ran into this problem and went through all the motions and in the end it was the card itself, the brand, I think it was a transcend 8gig. Got another card, different brand(Danelec or something) and the problem went away

Do you use a 3rd party multimedia player? I found that CoreCodec would not play while the screen is turned off (with the headphone plugged in), but HTC built in audio player plays it just fine.

I use Windows Media Player, but have also tried Pocket Player 4.1.
I'm pretty sure it's not the card that's the problem as it was working fine with the previous (Energy) ROM.

Any News on where to get this?
Cab would be great.
I found the file (don't remember where, and sadly it doesn't work for my phone). Oh wait, I just saw that this is a Tilt 2 thread (I have a Tilt 1): I came upon this thread by googling, not through the menus.
Again use the shk_customs keep the music playing cab does exactly what you want. I use the CorePlayer and it works perfectly for me to keep the music on when the screen or power is off.
Why use a piledriver like a rom change when a small hammer works fine.
