Volume button is not working !! - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

HELP...
It seems I broke the Volume button for my BA, IT moves freely up & down without changing the volume !!
IS there any way to change the button? to fix it? where Can I get new button??

Same thing happened to me when i lost the 2 screws on the sides on the XDA but it kindof fixed itself after a while i think i cleaned it out cos there was some dirt and stuff in there.

[Request] buttons lock

if your ever playing any games and you accidently hit home or any other button then you know what im talking about. since the buttons are touch sensitive you may get some accidental clicks. i wish there was a way you could lock the bottom row of buttons, not sure if its possible though. maybe by combining two of the physical buttons (such as volume up and down) we could lock the bottom row until we need to use those keys again and then we could unlock in a similar fashion. is there anyway possible someone could develop this?
+1 for this. I like the idea of it being toggled with volume buttons, or maybe long pressing the power button and adding it to that menu. It would have to be included in a rom though, you cant give that power to just any app. or you'll never be able to close it without rebooting.
every time i watch a video a hit the search button by mistake. i really wish someone would do this. also it would be better if you hold volume up and power buttons.
Ya I actually just had it happen again with gvba. Note: it really sucks if you accidently hit the back button. Lock please!

Volume up, Menu and Home key not working!

Hello everybody! My htc desire's physical buttons(actually just the volume up, home and menu keys) don't work...I press them but nothing happens. Well, they work sometimes, but when they don't I reboot my phone, randomly press some buttons, and they start working again. I just don't know what the fault is. Im on MildWild CM 4.3. I think the same problem was with other firmwares too. Can you please solve my problem?
If your device is under warrantly just send it to htc. It's a hardware problem, not something that you can solve with a script.
Ah, so you're telling me there's nothing that can be done to repair it? Cuz, my device isn't in warranty(I just replaced the casing)...

I don't know.. I don't want to be pessimistic, maybe you can search for similar problem in internet and a possibile solution, not just for Desire but in general for devices that have hardkeys. Maybe like use a spray for electric contacts while device is turn off and wait that it's completly dry before turn it on. Good luck.
I can't remember it, but I think that this problem appeared only after I got my casing changed. Could the technician have done something wrong? Can I send it to the man that changed the casing?
It's probably just some dust that gathered underneath the buttons. I had the same problem with the volume down button. I used a needle to clean the dust around it, and then it worked perfectly.
I dont think it could be due to the dust, cuz there are three buttons which simultaneously stop and start working... It's a bit strange tho..
I have issues now with my power button. It's unreliable... that is, the button sometimes works. Sometimes when I press it, it opens the shutdown menu..
Started all of a sudden. Not sure how that happened... and it's out of warrenty for 4 months now..
That is why I use Button Savior
Same!
I am getting the same problem. I have replaced the keypad flex with a new one and still getting the same issue. It would start working randomly like if I open the browser and open many tabs, then it would work. Funny thing is that they would not even work when I go in recovery.
My desire is 2yrs old now but I still love it.

Same problem here.
Mostly happens with Home and menĂ¹. Less often with volume buttons.
For now I'm using the "button saviour app" workaround, but if is something hardware I will know it very soon... (made a copy of my rom on a friend's HTC Desire)

All three buttons simultaneously! Buttons usually fail gradually one by one and drive you mad finally. I would put my money on the keypads being misaligned during whatever you got done with casing. Take it back to him.
If its some kind of misalignment no amount of sprays will help.
BTW I use zmooth for button conservation
use soft key instead

I had the same issues : menu button working randomly, had to press very strong on up/down volume buttons.
I've dismounted my phone (using this : http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php ), and I saw that there were a lot of dust, hairs.. I tried to clean up/down volume buttons the best way I could, and they both work so much better now! Not totally perfect though.
By the way, I noticed that there was a lot of compressed dust in micro-USB connector and was able to remove it fully (thing I couldn't do without dismounting phone).
I didn't want to go farther to access menu/home buttons because I didn't have time and Menu button works quite OK.
I have the same issue here with the volume buttons they tend to get unresponsive and unreliable.
Even though all the parts were renewed since six months ago, the volume buttons are probably bad designed?

You could replace bad working buttons' functions with others'. My volume down isn't working, so I made my search button act like a vol down.
Buy the new one

Volume button stuck pressing down, help

The problem is basically the down volume button broke so I replaced the entire volume piece, but I have the problem where the down button is constantly being pressed even when no actual physical button is present, so my phone is constantly lowering its volume when I am on the phone etc.
Is there any way to fix this?
If not is there any way for me to completely destroy the audio button to at least stop it adjusting itself!
If you replace that part did you place that volume plastic button right way. If it wrong way it may push switch down all time. Or maybe hardware failure in switch?
Or replace another one. Maybe that plastic vol button is pressing the switch all time. Try take off that plastic vol button part and then what happend? You can press buttons by your nails or something.
Yeh the problem is though even with no button it still keeps lowering the volume as if the button is being pressed so I don't know what the problem is, I'd gladly disable all volume control instead if thats possible.
if its the mainboard thats faulty that's an expensive part to replace :\

Messed up my volume rocker

Hey , so I've experienced the grey wi-fi issue (which i menaged to handle pretty easy tho) but in the fixing process i somehow f***ed up my volume rocker , I can only use volume up now.
So... do i need to buy whole new volume rocker with the cable etc. or i should give it to a repair shop to soldier it :?(i think its one of the 3 soldered tracks that's messed up , but still)
Sorry for my bad english
Fixing grey WiFi and mobile data icons: just flash Gapps and log in into google services..
How did you f*** up your volume rocker? *IF* you flashed anything related to system/usr/ then just flash the ROM again to fix that button behavior and make it working like how it should work! If it's like broken then I don't know...
Hello , I've f**ked it hardware wise
I was stuck by "Turning on Wi-Fi"
Reflowed the wifi , during the process the heat got one of the volume button soldering tracks and now vol down is dead.Vol up works tho

I tried to resolder a new vol flex cable and managed to only get the volume down button working. Connection pads are super tiny. I also suck at soldering.

[Q] Sensitive Power button and reboot problems

My S3 started randomly rebooting yesterday. The power button also because super sensitive. Just a light brush would cause the phone to register a press.
I edited my .kl files and disabled the power button and remapped it to the volume down button. I haven't had as many problems as I did yesterday but now it shuts down when I plug in the usb cord and it did shut down one more time when I picked it up off my desk.
I thought it was a faulty power button that was causing my phone to reboot but now I'm not so sure. Remapping seems to have helped a little though.
The files I edited were sec_keys.kl and sec_powerkey.kl. For both I disabled key 116 POWER WAKE and remapped it to key 114 which is the volume down key.
Any ideas on how to fix this completely? Is there another power setting I'm missing? I'm 3 months from my upgrade and don't really want to spend cash on this thing.
The power button is a somewhat common issue. Look at some disassembly videos. Maybe you can find a way rig it or replace it. The parts are pretty cheap if youre willing to attempt it.

I think I have mostly solved my issues. I pulled out the power button and I haven't had a problem since. Between that , the remapped power key and the Auto Screen On app I think I can make it till upgrade time.
