Apologies I have searched through many pages and have found nothing that helps so far.
Recently upgraded firmware from Orange site to
Operator Version 5.40.1.179
ROM 1.40.00WWE
Radio 1.06.02
Protocol 1337.38
ExtROM 1.40.179WWE
Since then I have been unable to connect to internet using Pocket Explorer via tiacxwln ethernet card.
I have installed vxutil and can ping all my other computers. It works with either IP addresses or names. I can synchronize with a time server and resolve whois names using the utility as well. So there seems to be nothing wrong there. All the Ip addresses for DNS , WINS , dhcp , gateway look correct.
But if I try to use Pocket Explorer or Active Sync or Terminal services client I get the message "Unable to connect: You have no modem entries created, and no network card present"
In Network management I have both settings set to My Work Network. I have not configured a modem (but if I do and turn off WLAN all works fine). In proxy settings I have "This network connects to the internet" ticked yes. I have no proxy server.
Any ideas much appreciated.
Older firmware works
Thanks to this forum I managed to download and install an older Orange upgrade to go back to
Operator version 5.31.1.162
ROM Version 1.31.00 WWE
Rom DATE 12/13/04
Radio Version 1.06.02
Protocol Version 1337.38
ExtROM 1.31.162 WWE
Now everything is back to normal again. So I'd really like to know what is going on.

Got a weird problem. GPRS only seems to work upstream - not downstream. I can send MMS but not receive. I cannot download any web pages. checked SIM card in another XDA and GPRS works fine so it must be the phone, not the Mobile account.
Upgraded system ROM and Radio to latest:-
ROM : 1.40.00WWE
Radio : 1.12.00
Ext ROM : 1.31.920 WWE
Tried taking out all the add-on applications from extended ROM in case of conflict - but no luck.
Can't find any way to get GPRS download to work. System is logging on as it can pick up an IP address. Just that no data flows down to the device.
Any suggestions?
MMS has different settings to http. Go to you connections manager and copy the details from the other xda which you tested it on
Thanks - but tried that. Copies all settings exactly but still no luck. Loaded IP Dashboard so I can check network settings. Looks like I am getting an IP address from the network - I can ping the default gateway, but no data ever seems to make it through to the browser. That is what made me think it might be an application conflict - hence removing everything from the extended rom - but still no luck. All very strange.

Hi.
I am new in this forum.
I have the same problem as yours since the old ROM then 1.31 and now 1.40+1.12 Radio.
I can connected to the GPRS network but downloading of a page even a mobile site take forever.even download o2 connect also forever.
I have tried my sim card to a mini and all OK no problem but the it only happend on my 2s.
But if I use the CSD connection it seems OK. WHY?
Any workaround, need some expert help here. ???????
Thanks.
Hello. I have a XDA exec on o2.
I upgraded the ROM from their website.
Issues :- If I install in 0506 mode I loose my 3G internet connection and the ability to send and recivie MMS. (I can not find the connection settings)
No one can send me anything by bluetooth. But bluetooth is working as my head set works.
Any Hacks you think I should be running ?
Thanks
Carll
I di the same as you and it works much better than before. You don't need any hack. Just O2 support and demand they give the settings.
For MMS as I did it:
go to your inbox/menu/MMS configuration. Goto the server tabs.
tap new and enter the following:
Server Name: I call it O2 UK
Gateway 193.113.200.195
port number 8080
server address: http://mmsc.mmc.o2.co.uk:8002
connect via: choose yoru network I put My Work network
sednignzie limitations: 100k
WAP version: Wap 2.0
I don't have the bluetooth problem. But .... I was unable to receive files, you can enable this in registry (can't remember now - doing this from work ) but the check the registery OBEX or something
Also after the upgrade my battery icon disappeared but I got back by enabling it in the registry.
Check the hack pool at this forum (hack is not the correct word in my opinion - settings enabling in the registry is more correct).
Either way I do think yo should contact O2 and they are obliged to give you all the settings and help you wiht bluetooth (since it is their upgrade did that according to you.)
Hope this helps.

or you could try following the above thread.
Download the cab file and keep it on your storage card. Then you just need to run the file and it is all done for you automatically.
Keep it safe in case you need it again. Saves entering the information manually.
Thanks

Hi All,
Am sure there are many threads - did a search but came up with nothing like mine. O2 Branded XDA Orbit with Vodafone SIM.
Upgraded from Default ROM to WM6 Bepe version - everything seems fine except my GPRS Connection.
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
Rom 3.4.207.1 WWE
4/18/07
Radio 2.49.90
Protocol 4.1.13.25
Model ARTE200
I have tried connecting to GPRS using my VODA SIM - which I know for a fact IS enabled for it as I was using it on my XDA-IIs - Now I just cannot connect to the GPRS to access my gmail or anything whatsoever.
I entered all the details for Voda-GPRS manually and also from CAB from this site and still cannot connect - it starts to connect and says the "connection was disconected" check settings...!!!
I am at my wits end on what the problem is !
Any ideas?

A couple of months ago I had an HTC Beta of WW6 and had to wipe it as it would not connect, same as you. Afterwards, I found out that WW6 install resets varions Connections settings incorrectly (part of beta).
Go to Settings / GPRS settings and make sure you have CHAP selected
My install had PAP selected.
Jeff
Sounds to me like the rom you have used has a feature/setting that disconnects GPRS connections for whatever reason - possibly to stop programs from auto connecting with GPRS.
Have you checked with the creator of the ROM to see if anything like this was implemented in to it? It may be fixable with a registry tweak or setting.
Mine worked both Bepe and B&B V2 ok.
GPRS:
1. Click on Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections
2. Under the heading 'My Work Network', click on 'Add a new modem
connection'
3. The settings you require are:
4. Name = Vodafone MMS
5. Modem = Cellular Line (GPRS)
6. Click 'Next'
7. Access Point Name = wap.vodafone.co.uk
8. Click 'Next'
9. Username = wap
10. Password = wap
11. (leave the Domain field blank)
12. Click 'Finish'
Thanks Guys - Worked fine - Seems I was giving the APN wrong...
Well finally atleast it's working now...
Now only to get the Blackberry connect to work and I'm on cloud nine !!!
Hi I was trying to set my dad up with my old wizard.
He's on vodaphone and I've been able to get the GPRS working using the above settings (I also had to add a proxy server of 212.183.137 - type - HTTP port 8799) but IE is now browsing the internet.
However when I try to connect to a imap mail account it just says connecting, then says failed to connect, check settings.
Does anyone with a vodafone account know if you're able to connect to a personal mail server?
Are there any more specific proxy settings?
(start -> settings -> connections -> manage exsiting connections -> proxy settings ->advanced)
Or any advice from someone who's been able to get this working.
Cheers
Matt
All Carrier UK Settings
I downloaded this from the HTC Site - It has the settings for all carriers...Maybe this will help.
Thanks tried this, but it has an APN of internet and these settings always give me the
'answering modem has disconnected error'
I used to get the sae error and then I called up Vodafone and told them. They reset the SIM from their side and things started working fine.
OK thanks for that. I'll just hand it over to my dad with GPRS working and see if he can get his sim card reset.
Cheers
Matt
I live in India and desire has not been launched officially yet. but i bought it from the grey market. here are a couple issues i am having:-
1. wifi connection in office connects smoothly. but at home it just shows "obtaining ip " and then after a long time it says that it was connected unsuccessfully.I searched and found a "static-ip"soln. i tried to get the details of ip etc. from my laptop my wifi is the "obtain ip address automatically" one. so i went to "details" and copied everything from there to my desire.now it shows that its connected but i cant browse the web still.any help here?
2.Should i update to Froyo 2.2"
these are my phone details:-
Firmware Version -2.1 update1
Baseband Version - 32. 30. 00. 28U_4. 05. 00. 11
Kernel Version- 2. 6. 29-97da29ed
htc-kernel @ and18-2#1
Build No. - 1. 15. 405. 4 CL155070 release-keys
Software No.- 1. 15. 405. 4
Browser Version- Webkit 3.1
can somebody pls help me!!!! or at least tell me which region/country rom i have?
Sounds like your router is not set up properly to allocate an IP to the phone. What security are you using? WEP? WPA? Also make sure your DHCP Server is set up correctly to accept the Desire and allocate the IP address.
No idea which rom you have but personally I'd root it and install a custom 2.2 rom like Neophyte which is very stable, fast and includes fixes for Froyo.

could you check if you're using MAC filtering and/or hidden SSID on your wifi router at home?
After a softreset my TP2 change the WiFi-MAC-Adress. It makes problems in many limited and secure networks. Here my versions:
Radio: ATT Radio Rhodium 4.49.25.95
ROM: Micro (without Manila) 2.08.72.1 (84354) GER
I'm think it is not a issue in ROM or Radios because there are many other users with same problems. They all have different radios and roms.
Where storage the WLAN-MAC? What kind of software seems to build a new WiFi-MAC?
Is there a workaround to overwrite the WiFi-MAC like do's on NIC-MAC in personal computers?
Kind Regrads, WR.
are you sure that you are not talking about the IP address instead ?
because a mac address is a unique reference normally that is link to the device ??? And cannot be change just by a soft reset...
Hi hanackin,
yes I mean the MAC-address. I can see in the network settings on my home router. A lot of pears from (name, IP, MAC) from my mobile device. The explain: the router give my device (after a reset) a new IP because the device is never known anytime before - new MAC-address. So I can not set a important option in WiFi-settings "allow no new devices". Also in some other networks i can not use if the admin check my MAC from the first registration.
Please read this: [http: / / ] forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777753
I'm think a MAC can be corrupt or a error on storage. Do you know how write back the MAC from the device tape?
