First time post ...
I recently downloaded the 1.13.53 WWE ROM update from the Imate site and attempted to install it on my JasJar. The update failed leaving my JasJar in boot loader mode. No reset method seemed to work to bring it back up. Subsequent attempts to load the ROM update gave me the dreaded "Country Code" error. Here are the steps I followed to get the ROM update to succeed:
1. Uninstalled ActiveSync 4.0 and installed ActiveSync 4.1 as downloaded from XDA FTP site. Disabled firewall and Anti-virus. Rebooted machine. I am not sure whether this step was neccessary or not but noted that others had some success with this. At this point I was still getting the country code error when trying to install ther update.
2. Run the update but once you get to the first screen that asks you if you want to proceed, switch to the Windows file system using Explorer and set the current directory to your TEMP directory. If you are not sure where this is, open a command prompt (Start - Run - CMD - OK) and type SET. This will display environment variables. Look for the one called TEMP - that is where you want to go.
3. Search for a file called ROMUpgradeUT.exe or RUU.conf anywhere in the TEMP directory or its subdirectories. When you find the correct directory, copy the files to a new location.
4. In the new location, edit the RUU.conf file and add the following text at the end of the file:
[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
5. Save the file and then run ROMUpgradeUT.exe
At this point I was able to get past the country code error and the update began. The radio upgrade was the first component and it took the most time (about 10-15 minutes). The other 2 components upgraded the extended ROM and the OS but only took about 5 minutes each.
After getting the completion message on my PC I also noted a "100% complete" message on the JasJar screen. After a hard reset (soft keys and reset) the JasJar came up with the upgraded ROM in place and I was REALLY HAPPY!
I don't know if this will work for anyone else - use at your own risk but I wanted to share what has worked for me.
BTW - many thanks to all the previous posters who left "breadcrumbs" for me to follow in getting my JasJar back. This community is SUPERB!
Thanks again.

See here maybe help http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
I did the upgrade from Jasjar WWE to Dopod CHT. Here is how I did it:
1. Connect JJ to ActiveSync thru USB and wait till the sync session is completed.
2. While the sync is still active, I ran MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe. After a few steps of checking, it will disconnect ActiveSync and put the JJ into the bootloader mode.
3. The upgrade will halt with a country code error. No upgrade has been performed yet.
4. Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe again while the cable is still connected and JJ still in bootloader mode. I was prompted that I am upgrading from [Blank] to [NewVersionNumber]. Click "Next".
5. The ROM will be upgraded this time till it's done. It took about 20 minutes.
6. I pressed both softkeys and reset. When the reset prompt comes up, I pressed "0" to reset to default factory settings. After some booting time, JJ starts to speak Chinese.
I upgraded to Chinese ROM because the Chinese plug-in I used to use for English ROM is kind of buggy on WM5. Thanks to everyone on this forum.
There are a few things I did after I upgraded to CHT ROM:
1. Changed the system font to the more artistic Kai font (from KAIU.ttf on a Windows machine). The original system font was MingLiU, which looked kind of scrawny on a VGA screen.
2. Re-enabled ClearType for the system and PIE. For some reason, Dopod disabled ClearType settings so the user cannot turn on ClearType from the user interface. I used a registry editor and modified a few keys to get the ClearType feature back.
With the Kai font and ClearType, the screen becomes a lot more readable and very pretty! If someone is interested in step-by-step instructions, let me know, and I will post them.
By the way, I was so excited when I discovered the im.tv site actually works for me in USA. I was able to watch the TV news in Taiwan in full VGA screen.
One difference I noticed is that with the WWE ROM, I can very easily set up Bluetooth ActiveSync. With the CHT ROM, the device can only discover the serial port service on my computer, but not recognize its ActiveSync capability. If someone knows how to correct this, please let me know.
Also, in case you don't know, the keyboard mappings between WWE and CHT ROMs are slightly different. The SYM key is swapped with the ";" character, probably because SYM is hardly used in Chinese input. The shortcut "FN + ;" can toggle the English and Bomopofo modes. Note the ";" character is now on the SYM key of JASJAR.

Hi yyl :
Can you tell me how to change system front to Kai ?
Thanks
1. Copy KAIU.ttf from a Windows machine. Paste it into the Pocket PC's "Windows" directory thru ActiveSync.
2. Using a registry editor (like PHM RegEdit), BACK UP your registry first! Then go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink\". Change the data of "Courier New" and "Tahoma" keys to "\windows\KAIU.ttf,DFKai-SB".
3. Soft-reset your device. Now all the Chinese characters become Kai font. It is not very smooth, because ClearType is still disabled.
4. To enable ClearType, this is how I did it. Maybe some steps are not really necessary.
5. Using the same registry editor, search for the keyword "cleartype" in all the keys and values. I found three matches. I set ClearType=1, NoClearType=0, ClearTypeText=1 respectively.
6. Soft-reset your device. You will see that the system ClearType is still disabled. Go to "Settings -> System -> Screen -> ClearType" to enable ClearType. This option was originally hidden from end users. Now it's visible. Once you check the "Enable ClearType" box, the font will immediately smooth up.
That's it. One thing worthy of note is, KAIU.ttf seems to only have traditional Chinese characters, not simplied Chinese. I am not sure.
Thanks yyl , I will try it today

Can you upload KAIU.ttf which I can't find in my window machine, Are you used Chiese window system ? mine was English + language pack
The KAIU.ttf comes with many versions of Microsoft Office of many languages. When the Asian character support is selected during installation, Office will install some extra Asian fonts for you. This is one of them.
Anyway, I uploaded this font to ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Universal
I don't know if this upload is appropriate. If it is not, the board moderators, please feel free to delete it. Thanks.
The principles that I outlined above should work with any TrueType Chinese font that you like.

Download "(Open_ch)UNI_DOPOD_11336_134_10402_Test.exe" from the "Universal" folder of this site (see the link in my previous post). Use Winzip to extract all the content from this EXE file into a folder on your hard drive. Place "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" into the same folder. Then perform the steps I mentioned above.
I have Modify the font to KAIU , But it does not suppurt Simpfy Chinese, it only support tradition chinese, does any font will fit Both?
I did it!

Yes, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts, KAIU.ttf seems to include only traditional Chinese. The MingLiU font that came with the Dopod ROM has both traditional and simplified. I presume there are many third-party fonts on the market that support both. Note that fonts supporting both styles tend to occupy a lot more space.
Hi All
Have a problem with my latest phone. A so called friend told me to upgarde the ROM so as to remove all the T Mobile poop in it. So he gave me the software I started the upgrade all went well stage 1 then stage 2 and finally stage 3. It said Congrats just hit reset and the power button at the same time and its done. Easy Me thought..... Not Easy....... Its now just booting up and screaming at me. The screen wont lite up and nothing else. I have tries to reset over 10 times now.....Anyone got any ideas, have I shot and killed my new phone...
Ta JG
this is not good. do you know which phone you are having? MDA is all the phoen from t-mobile. First identify your phone. Then, you need to know if you are using the right ROM on the right phone. THEN, you have to know are you using the right phone ROM on the phone (eg G3 or G4).
Its an MDA Copmact 11 does that help....
common.. more info. which rom you've used?
Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed.
SORRY i AM NEW TO THIS AND i AINT GOT A CLUE WHAT i AM DOIN...HE HE HE
Oh forgot to mention it all went in ok, stage 1, 2, 3 and even told me on my computer it had worked. It was when I tried the power and reset that it all came tumbling down........

You've just flashed your Charmer phone with an Alpine ROM. If that doesn't kill your phone, I'm not sure what will.
Ok, try this. Hold down all 3 buttons -> power, camera, record buttons, and poke the reset. See if you can get a 3 colours screen.
If you get that, close active sync (stop the process WCESCOMM.EXE), connect your phone to your PC (when it is displaying the 3 colour screen). Then you ought to be able to run the ROM update file (EXE) from t-mobile (check the Charmer Wiki) and that may fix your problem.

you DONT want activesync to cut in
put it in that 'usb mode' that you managed to get and just run the OFFICIAL T-Mobile rom update utility, but make sure to kill the wcesscomm process in windows' task manager.
good luck!

RUU_Compact ll_2060227_20602110_021921_T-MobileUK_Ship
I have switched off the file as you have said in the task manager. The update laods then says cannot find MDA Device connection error 274.
Could a system restart help?????
Sorry for all this, maybe stick to things I do know in the future, like washing my car.......
hey
get your phone back into that screen which had 'usb' written on it.
then do this:
download and install a program called 'winrar', you've probably heard of it and in all likelihood already have it!
once its installed, right click that t-mobile update you just download and select the 'extract to.../' option that will come up in the drop down menu, let it extract to the folder it does, open the folder in there will be a few files: you want the file which is called something along the lines of 'upgrateUT' or RUU Upgrade UT, it'll be an exe,
connect your phone up to the computer (with it in the USB mode and activesync disabled) and run that exe, it should go through as normal
good luck
(if you want any help just post back! best bet is for you to extract the files and report back with the name of the files in the folder!)
duke: I think he did that. He downloaded the EXE from http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/download_manager_mda_com2.html
and it seems not able to detect his Charmer.
JeanGenie: Just to make sure, when you run that EXE, you have the phone connected with it displaying USB?

well, it is amazing that you can go into the bootloader at all. I'm suspecting that the bootloader is not the Chamer bootloader, hence the ROM update EXE is not able to find it. Where did you download the Alpine ROM. Give exact link.
UPDATE: Look at the post here

by 'windowsceportal'. He is able to flash the phone with 'Prophet RUU 2.5.2 noID check' with the DLL RUUResource.dll of Charmer RUU. I'm not very certain, but the noIdCheck may able to help.
UPDATE: As according to this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280128&highlight=
the bootloader mode that you are having is that of an Alpine (Charmer's bootloader mode is a screen with 3 colours). So, probably the updating program doesn't work. However, as an idea, you may want to try getting alpine upgrading EXE files to load Charmer ROM into the phone. It is an idea, not sure how can this be achieved.

Hellllppppp...........
Its me again, can anyone make any other suggestions to my problem please. I have tried in vain to do what has been already suggested but it seems either it wont work or more to the point I have no clue as to what I am doing.
It might be very simple to all you educated guys, but I am sure there are a few more like me that are a bit baffled by some of the threads on here.
What would be REALLY nice would be a 'simple' step-by-step guide to installing wm6 on our devices, and what we need to download to achieve it, eg "you need this for MDACIII, and this for O2 Orbit"
Obviously anyone trying it runs the risk of buggering up their phone, but that's their own fault.
Any volunteers?

having asked the same question myself here goes.
Download USPL and follow the instructions. they are very clear.
Download
extract
connect phone with minimum 50% battery
soft reset and once started up fully run the app by clicking on Rom Update utility
follow the process through once finished your device will restart.
once restarted you then can flash the rom of your choice
I used Black and Blue again ran the update utility and bingo.
dont forget that all data on your device will be lost so make sure you have back up of contacts etc in outlook on pc.
Finaly make sure you have Activesync 4.5
enjoy
AS STATED ALTHOUGH THIS WORKS YOU ALL DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
Id just like to know really is that how many people have done it without unlocking the device for o2 orbit uk. i have one and am not really willing to try it unless i know there are people out there that have tried it and it worked.
as there is no rom install file from o2 for this, there is no way bacj and bricked phone is the only way forward. id like not to brick my phone as i need it daily.
so, has anyone with a locked o2 device upgraded to WM6 successfully and which rom did you use if it worked.?

Taken from Bepe's thread about the modified o2 German update. Basically you need to use the Artemis USPL program and then use the first link to install which I did successfully on a CID locked phone.
Thanks guys, but, unfortunately, the uspl thing does not work on my pc
Along with a few others I get the 'black screen' on my mdac3 then activesync disconnects and the rom loader throws up an error
Luckily my mdac3 survives through a soft reset

hi..
i have O2 uk orbit.. which is still locked, i fully charged the battery, completed a hard reset of the phone used the pof Artemis Update SPL (USPL) v.01 upgrade (wow what a brain box he is!) just in case it failed, so i could you use any NBH file to get you orbit to work again if i failed. Then used Bepe's WM6 os.nb file renamed it to windows.nb downloaded ATRE.zip unzipped the ARTE.zip file placed the windows.nb into the same directory, don't forget to edit UpgradeRom.bat file 0x3900000 to 0x3500000 with in the ATRE directory and copied and installed EnableRapi.cab to the phone. Reset it the phone and then started the UpgradeRom.bat! 12 mins later upgrade complete. Hard restart the phone.. Chewing nails by now... all went well did a soft reset of the phone before the O2 ExtROM autorun starts..
sorted, and did half way though a night shift at 3 am.. not bad at all!

Confused... is it really necessary to take all these steps? I thought that the only thing required is to run Pof's tool USPL, and after that run Romupdateutility.exe from the package in .nbh format (the link is just a few messages above yours). Please correct me when I'm wrong.

OK, I volunteered... This is a detailed list of steps how I installed a new ROM on my MDA Compact III (CID locked, at least I think so). It worked without any errors or problems. I used PDAVIET Black&Blue v2.0. It was my first flash on my Artemis, so I more than understand your need for step-by-step guide
1. download the file Artemis_USPL.zip
2. unpack into the folder c:\USPL
3. download the file ARTEMIS_Black_Blue_v2.zip
4. unpack into the folder c:\ROM
5. soft reset your phone and have it charged over 50% (I have it fully charged)
6. wait until the system starts on your Artemis
7. turn on flight mode (probably not necessary, but I wanted to minimize any risks)
8. connect your Artemis to PC with a USB cable
9. wait until ActiveSync icon in your tray (lower right corner of your windows desktop) turns from gray to green. If you connect your Artemis for the first time to PC, you do not need to set up synchronization, just click "cancel" on the first screen of "Synchronization Setup Wizard"
10. while ActiveSync icon is green, run c:\USPL\start_uspl.exe
11. a DOS screen will pop up with the text "Initializing: 0.." in the bottom indicating probably seconds from the start (it stopped around 70 in my case after about 1.5 min)
12. DOS screen disappears and PDA Phone ROM update utility pops up
13. at the same time, your Artemis turns blank (orange/green LED turns off as well)
14. tick the check box next to " I understand..." and then click Next
15. tick the check box next to " I completed..." and then click Next
16. a box saying "Verifying information on your PDA..." pops up
17. on the next screen click Update button
18. next screen says "Upgrade to ... image version 9.99" - click Next
19. Next screen says "You are now ready to update..." - click Next, a window with a blue progress bar appears with a text "Updating ROM image..", it quickly runs to 100%
20. next screen says "Congratulations! ..." - click Finish
21. your phone turns on and boots into your old system, however it should be CID unlocked now
22. your Active Sync should reestablish and icon turns green again
23. do not touch anything (phone or USB cable) and run C:\ROM\ROMUpdateUtility.exe (make sure activesync icon is green)
24. PDA Phone ROM Update utility window appears, tick the check box next to " I understand..." and then click Next
25. tick the check box next to " I completed..." and then click Next
26. a box saying "Verifying information on your PDA..." pops up
27. on next screen click Update button (says "Current information...")
28. next screen says "Upgrade to ... image version BnB2.0" - click Next
29. Next screen says "You are now ready to update..." - click Next
30. a window with a blue progress bar appears with a text "Updating ROM image..", your Artemis will have light gray screen with blue progress bar showing the progress of flashing - do not touch anything and wait (it took 2-3 minutes on my 3 years old PC)
31. next screen says "Congratulations! ..." - click Finish
32. your Artemis turns on and starts booting, you can disconnect it from PC now
33. the boot screen remains the same (T-Mobile in my case), so do not panic!! it is normal
34. wait until calibrate the screen appears, calibrate, choose time zone and you are ready to use your new OS
35. let me know if this manual was clear enough, whether it helped you and please suggest potential changes for improvement
Take care,
Dzim
i've just succesfully flashed my dutch CID-LOCKED MDA Compact 3 with this method, so i'd say it's reasonably fool-proof
A couple of questions before i take the plunge - if my t-mobile cmda iii is already CID unlocked, can i just go straight to the update rom part.
Also, is there any way of dumping my standard t-mobile rom first off? I'm having trouble trying to use itsutils due to the app lock.
Cheers Dzim!
Your instructions worked perfectly.
One very happy complete idiot here!

There is a TMobile rom on here somewhere already, I just cant find it at the moment
My Compact 3 it’s death now. After pres voice commander button MDA start only to the boot loader. Can’t run complete system.
Pleas tell me. How can I write the new rom with WM5 or WM6 ?
OOPS! Working well apart from the "cant save word documents" bug!!
Just an update - to use the v1 or v2 black and blue, even though it is unlocked, you still need to use the supercid util.
Otherwise you get the rom update getting to 3% before crashing out to say the rom is corrupted.
I've now converted 2 other tmobile compact mda IIIs successfully, wm6 is much quicker
Yes, with my Compact was exactly as You say. Now is death. What I can do now to repair it.
big thanks to Dzim, used the idiots guide and now on wm6 =D
cheers!
PS: first post
Hi! Nemesis, try to connect your HTC to your pc in bootloader mode.
Lauch start_uspl.exe in USPL folder. Follow instruction on post N°9 by DZIM.
After USPL your HTC should reboot (maybe in bootloader mode only).
Launch the ROMUpdateUtility.exe in Black&Blue ROM v2 and follow instruction.
Thanks gguyaz
Pleas tell me.
Could I doing this upgrade with Windows Vista on my PC?
I'm running Vista and when I wanted to run the bootloader upgrade on my Dash I kept getting this message error. Error 260. anybody find any way around it? I've tried to manually set th ephone into bootloader mode, same result. help!! PS the error is supposed to mean "port already open" or "open port error" I'd really appreciate any help!
erro 260 - fixed
switches to my wife's laptop that had XP on and it worked like a charm. I'd be glad to assist anybody in the process od de-branding their Dash. Removing the ugly T-mobile paint logo on the unit was easy too.
ERROR 260
Sorry for thislong story....
OK, I've been on looking around the site for a while. I installed the WM6 Beta. I was looking for two days for the WM5 ROM only because I want the little things to work. Finally found it. But now every time I try to flash my phone ack to WM5 bI keep getting the 260 connection error. The readme only says to restart the comp and phone and try again. I have literally, no joke, done this 12 times in the last 2 hours, hoping maybe it will go. All the phone does is go to the green, blue, and red screen and stays there. Then the comp says it gets the error. I know it's connected because Sync Center syncs, I can look through the phone, install apps from my comp, etc. Also I tried doing the 'Update only' rom for version 1.11 or so, and it starts to go but then says its the wrong version RUU. Has anyone had this problem before? Flashing to WM6 did this once and then worked after.
I'm running Vista Premium, stock sync cable, Microsoft Sync Center for vista. All this is the sameas when I flashed to WM6.
There goes another 3 attempts, trying to change timing, reinstalling Sync Center, etc.
Decided to try it on my XP desktop, and for some reason, first time it worked. Maybe Vista didn't like it? Who knows..
Mladito Vista!!
Hi there,
I have the same little problem here!!!! I have a laptop with Vista (garbage)... so i´ll try on a laptop running XP...thank you for posting this, it was a big help..i let you know how it turns out... see you around
WM5 to WM6 --> Problems at 3%
Hi all,
I've errors upgrading my phone to WM6.
I Can open the Wizard (it`s a generic to S620/S621), but in 3% i`ve an error.
I think thats my phone has a blocked CID.
How can i unlock this? i`ve tryed with tools to unlock, but without success...
Regards,
Emerson
Hello,
Welcome to the forum.
Your problem is that your phone is CID-Locked. Hence, you'd need to use a paid service to unlock it. I personally used the following service which provides instant unlocking:
http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/htc-excalibur-instant-remote-unlock-p-1452.html
I used a credit card, it's 39.99 $ - I was done unlocking and upgrading to Windows Mobile 6 in about 15-20 minutes.
Good Luck !
P.S:
Steps to install WM6
- First CID/SIM Unlock using GSM Liberty
- Flash Bootloader
- Install WM6 ROM (It will take some time for it to load so give it about 5-10 mins. it does get stuck at the boot screen for sometime but eventually it'll load)
- Install Office/Audio Manager
- Application Unlock your phone using SDA Application Unlocker
- Install the necessary software/tweak/hacks
there you go, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. also, if you use the search function, everything's available here.
Good Luck !
Here's the following links you require
1) Flash Bootloader
ftp://xda:[email protected]
2)here's the WM6 ROM:
http://files-upload.com/files/472108....90_Ship.ex e
here's office for those who want it:
http://rapidshare.com/files/31706137/Office.WM6.zip
here's Htc Audio Manager for those who want it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1183909664
Ps. I better like German flash, it's smaller due to fewer language packs, and contains English, here: http://files-upload.com/files/472422....90_Ship.exe
thanks to jsp_m for the links.
Hi,
I`ve problems because my IMEI is from Brazil...
And in the site accept only 15 digits IMEI..
My imei is: 35*************02 (17 Digits IMEI)
Thanks,
Emerson
hey,
that's not a problem. everyone has 17 digits, don't include the last 2 digits when you type in your IMEI so for example
11111111111111102
just include the first 15 and submit and you'll get an unlock link in your e-mail, follow that link, scroll down to the page to download dashunlock software and download the .UNL file for your IMEI and then make sure ur phone is connected to active sync and it's green, open the dash-unlock program and then hit enter then it'll ask for the .UNL file, locate it and open it and your good to go - your phone will be unlocked then soft reset it or i think it's automatic and everything's set.
good luck !
p.s: in other words, don't include 02 when you type in your IMEI.

Emerson;
Read the second post from luckybandit on this thread. That´s exactly what to do to get rid of the "invalid model" issue. Download the bootloader, flash the phone, flash the new ROM and be patient.
My excalibur is also from South America, and worked OK. If you have any doubt just let it know to this thread.
Boa sorte!
Hi,
I`ve problems with the link of Boot loader....
Anyone can send the full URL?
Thanks,
Regards,
Emerson
Hello,
I'm sorry about the links not working, here - i've attached the bootloader for you. here's what you do
1) Run bootloader (attached file)
2) Run the WM6 WWE ROM
3) Run SDA Application Unlock
4) Install Office/Microsoft Voice Command/HTC Audio Manager
5) Install Tweaks/Hacks
here's a site that has some applications and tweaks:
http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/DashApps.htm
and search this forum, there's tons of information, hacks - etc.
Good Luck !
oh by the way, did you unlock your phone properly?
1) Download unlock software
2) Download .UNL file specifically for your IMEI
3) Connect phone to computer and make sure the activesync's icon has turned green
4) Run unlock software
5) When unlock software asks for .UNL file, browse for it, choose it
6) That's it ! It should say Unlocking done and it'll reboot
Your phone is now Sim & Cid Unlocked. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. just do what i said first then post.
Good Luck ! Hope to see everything working for u...

Hi,
Are you using Windows Xp? Cause I've gotten that error a couple of times too but it was in Vista. Try Xp if you're using Vista.

Is there anything else to do now?
