hello to all
I installed Orange Homescreen on my WM5 blue-angel.
It it by far the cleanest plug-in I've ever used! Two problems though:
1. The URLs seem to be hard coded - anyway of changing that?
2. On the contacts "tab" there is an option for speed dial, but it generates an error when I try to use it - is there some other CAB I need to install?
Thank you!
Hi AdmiralAK,
I love the Orange today plugin too, but have had a lot of trouble installing it on the other Rom's for my Universal. Can you tell which files you used to install it :?:
As for the problems your having:
1. The URL's can be changed by editing the Full_one.xml file.
But your still limited to four.
2. In the Orange Rom, some of the files have a lower case t prefix.
Try changing renaming your speed dial executable. It might work
Thanks!
I downloaded the homescreen cab from somewhere on this board (this was a few days ago so I am not completely sure). I found two versions. One was in the ftp://xda-developers.com/Universal/Extended_ROMs/Orange Extended ROM/
(this one I did not install because I had the otherone already installed)
(ok after a little looking I found it)
I am actually using the Orange Homescreen from the Orange SPV M3100 (hermes device) - this is the one that is installed on my Blue angel and it works without a problem. --> I am attaching it.
(I apologize to the forum for postnig the same file again - I cannot find the link to it)
----
As for the speed dialer - I don't think I have the application installed on my blue angel (I am using the 1.3beta rom from HELMI and I don't seem to be able to find it) in my device - any idea where to get it?
Also, is the XML file that I need to edit in the windows/ directory?
Thanks
google tells me that the full_one.xml file is in my windows directory...but I dont see it :-/
The CAB from the Orange Ext ROM is just the reg settings, its no good without the files from the Orange ROM.
I'll try the file you posted this weekend [if I get the chance] :?
Yes, the XML file is in the Windows folder.
It works inconjuction with the HomeScreen.dll, with some icons stored in contactsico.dll.
I've added these files and the prefixed t files from the Windows folder of my Universal, I hope they're useful.
Have you tried the file ?
Hmm.. performing back up now.. and going to try it out. Hope it is easy to uninstall.
[UPDATE]
Ok, tested out the plugin. It is a nice plugin. Make your phone more like a phone than a PDA. It gives you one hand operation by using the direction buttons, making calls and stuff. However, since it will disable all other plugins, I won't recommend others whom uses Today calendar plugins such as Pocket Breeze, TodayAgenda, TodayPlus, etc.. to use this orange plugin. Uninstall is easy.
Screen shot of it here http://www.coolsmartphone.com/article569.html
under the section `INSIDE`. It is the same for smart phone and pda phone. You will see all the options available. And the 'Today' option actually sends you to the (built in) Calendar day view.
Hi, have you used the cab file and zip file above ?
Ok, I tried the plugin posted here by AdmiralAK, on my Universal.
First thing I noticed was it actually ran on the O2 ROM.
Second thing was how small the icons are compared to the plguin built into the Orange Universal ROM.
But I guess that makes sence as the screens are very different sizes. More importantly must of the plugin works fine.
I'm sure a little editing would probably have it all working.
What I did notice is its totally different to the Universal plugin, none of the files i've edited to get the universal version working the way I want it to, exist in this version. Hence the Full_one.xml, t* and .bmh files are not in the Windows folder.
I've gone back to the Orange ROM, as I have it running the way I want and the bigger icons are easier to use on the Universal. But i'll be keeping this version as I may get a TyTn next year.
Cool program. But too bad, limited customizable.
Hi people,
Great software, I was looking to try this on my MDA Vario. Too bad of it's limitations. Good to try out and see how it works.
Though I was thinking of visually designing a kind of similar application and find some great developers on this site to help me create it. Of course if anyone is interested in this kind of functionality.
Anyone already interested? let me know. i hope to have some draft ideas on here in the form of screenshots as soon as possible. but now it's diner time see ya.
Cheers,
Shah.
I have tried editing the 'full_one.xml' file, then soft reset....however it hasn't changed anything...
did i miss something?
Hi guy,
I've tried to resize the icon of plug-in and it's ok in portrait but no in landscape, I think it's a registry problem for landscape.
I'd like to use the plug-in on no orange rom.
I'll find the way to get more than 4 custom option but i get without icon.
The file full_one.xml is linked with other file of the orange rom so I think that's one problem.
@Shah2,
I'd be interested in a plugin like this, that has a few more options [see below] and works on all ROM's.
I have no programing skills or abilities, but i'd help out where I can.
@minty1978,
The Full_one.xml file only lets you edit the Labels and the URL's in the plugin.
@filippodisvevia,
I'd like to use the plug-in on a none Orange ROM too.
Then I wouldn't have to kepp hiding my Universal from the IT guys at work.
The 3 things I'd like to change on the plugin are:
1. Have more than 5 URL's in the Web section.
2. Have more than 4 programs in the Launch section.
3. Have all seven sections appear on the screen [at least in portrate mode][/i]
I'm a littlebit busy but I want resolve this match.
Stay tuned
Concept Orange Homescreen Pimped Beta 0.1
Hi people,
I told ya that I was interested in making the Orange Homescreen even better than it is at the moment.
THESE ARE PURELY PHOTOSHOP MOCKUPS!
Image number 1 shows the use of today plugin as we know them. It's just to give an example. All the other screens speak for themselves.
If anyone has his/her own ideas please share them in this thread. I would also like to draw the attention of developers who might be interested in creating this for real, and not just some photoshop images, please let me know.
Cheers,
Shah
Hi Shah,
Thats way more complex, than I was looking for.
But, If this was to be built as a new plugin, hopefully it could be scalable, using a .ini or .xml file. Like the real Orange plugin does. 8)
The only I don't really like, is the other plugins showing as in pic.1.
I have other plugins switched on while i'm at work, and the Orange one at night. I find the empty desktop more relaxing.

Hi ZaForD
The complexity is actually quite limited. Because if you use the plugin most of the options are the same. Most of the items are just additions to the rest of the plugin.
And for the pic 1. I can image it's not that nice. But with input we can work on making it more general so that people will like it.
Personally I would like to have the standaard Today screen plugins visible because they are still usefull.
It's also a possibility that all the items are configerable to meet users needs. For example standaard options like the original homescreen for users that want the basic functionalities, and advanced options for users who want more options. so that every page is user configerable.
Anything is possible in Photoshop haha. but seriously if there are any developers who are interested please leave a note.
Cheers,
Shah
I stopped using the plugin - no matter how much I liked it - because it did not show me tasks tat need to be done.
I would be interested in something more complex than it is now (at least show me my tasks) but maybe not as complex as the mockups. scalability would be cool
What do you think he is trying to do?

Any updates on this?
I have a Prophet and tested the plugin, however there are some things that I can't edit (cause I don't have an Orange ROM)...
Hi Everyone,
I'm using the xda mini s at the moment and love it. Would obviously really like to add integrated GPS though.
3G is of little interest to me, so the Orbit looks perfect.
Only problem...no keyboard. How have you guys got round that? I simply cannot be bothered to always use the stylus.....will it be pointless for me then? Or have they managed to create a good alternative.
Would appreciate anyones views and experiences.
Thanks
HPJ
well i dont have orbit however played with it for a while when my friend got one.
What can i say. Trackball and wheel solution are good, imo much better to navigate phone then normal joypad.
However. It doesnt have a keyboard
So already having external Bluetooth gps i see no reason why i would buy orbit instead of hunting for htc herald which is the same factor but with keyboard...
And that would be ( and in fact will be ) my choice. Of course question now where to get herald from as it retails for £300+... i would just wait until my upgrade time comes and buy something else and sell it in order to finance new herald.
I had a wizard before the Orbit. Have to admit that I do miss the "real" keyboard and havent really found an on screen keyboard that makes entering text as easy. I did only use it occasionally though and love the size and look of the Orbit so it seems to more than make up for it in my opinion.
Hi, I've recently upgraded from a Mini S to the Orbit.
I've not really missed the keyboard, but I guess it depends on how you use the device. I've installed the T9 phonepad .cab file that's available on here & I use that for sending text messages. Why the hell it wasn't included as standard I have no idea - seems daft cos if i remember correctly, it is included on the Mini S :s
If you use your device to enter a lot of text though, e.g. sending emails or using it to edit word documents, then you might find the on-screen keyboard very fiddly to use.
I manage to successfully type on the software keyboard with my two thumbs using the Xda Orbit in landscape mode, I make a few errors but I'm used to making and correcting those on a PC keyboard anyway so I get by. Something the same size of the Orbit with a slide out keyboard would be awesome but at the moment I can't see how it would be realistic.
The Orbit is SOOO much better. It's much slimmer so doesn't feel like such a brick (imagine the mini s minus the whole top screen section (the silver bit)
I also installed phonepad and it works well. Built in gps and slimmer phone are the key factors for me
It also has start menu and ok keys on the front, so 1 handed operation is good
If the keyboard was a real issue, I would use SPB full keyboard - check that out if you have concerns
Excellent feedback, thanks everyone.
Think it sounds worth it...think I'll make the move.
Also checked out that SPB keyboard. Looks great.
Will let you know how I get on (in case anyone else is in the same position)
Cheers

I too am making the move from my mini s... gald to be leaving th bulk behind.
i am torn between the trinity or the artemis ... i was wondering on what you guys know about this sd card problem if you'd recommen going for the trinity instead... only thing it seems to lack is the fm radio!

SD card problem is affecting all the devices You may check the forums.
I have just contacted O2 to send back my mini s (wizard) and
I am getting an orbit instead. My old phone is a magician, and when I got the mini s, I was really disappointed!
Obviously it has features such as wifi etc that my magician didn't have, but it was a big clunky plasticy slow monstrosity.
I realised that I actually preferred my magician, so I got straight on the phone to O2.
Ok, rant over. The point of this is that I didn't appreciate the keyboard on the mini S at all. I have spb fullscreen keyboard and spb pocketplus on my magician, and I never ever have to use the stylus. I set the icons on the pocketplus today screen to large, and use the soft keyboard for texting etc.
The keyboard for me makes the device practical, I don't think I'd still have a pda phone if I hadn't discovered it.
I actually dropped my stylus at my friend's house and wasn't aware that it was missing until she returned it to me nearly three weeks later...
By the way, I don't work for spb or anything lol!
If you read about the apple iphone, you'll see that they have done away with the stylus by using a similar interface.
Obviously the way to go!
I've always used the letter recogniser on XDA's find the on screen keyboards clumbersome.
My other half hates the bulk of the keyboard on her Mini.
I've moved from the Mini-S to XDA orbit. Full screen keyboard is ok, but I find it a little cumbersome.
I've just discovered the International T9 Phonepad from this very forum, and it works a treat, well, once I discovered "Tab" was "space" anyway!! Great for notes and calendar entries, and makes one-handed text entry a real possibility. Definately worth a try!
Hi,
I have the T-mobile MDA Compact III, the Dutch version, with wifi and stuff. I also have a Qtek S200 and the first thing i noticed is that the Compact III has no calculator! This may seem like a small thing, but it bugs me as i got used to using it alot with the S200...
Any plugin or whatever to get a calculator??
Oh and while i'm asking, is there a way to change those freaky pink white colors of the phone pad? I can change theme in the notmal menus but the phone pad always stays with the T-mobile color scheme... any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Rudy
Hmm... interesting. Anyway, there are tons of better calculator out there. I think the.. Omega(?) has a free calculator software.. and if you do a search on www.freewareppc.com, they ought to have a few .. much advance ones too.
Tons of phonepad available in this forum with iPhone wannabe to.. Vista look-alike. Easiest way to get rid of T-mobile stuff is to go Wiki (under WM5 tweak) to get rid of it and use the default.
Had the same problem.
There IS an calculator, only theres no shortcut made by TM
In the folder WINDOWS\calc.exe
there u got to be. ive made an shortcut to it with SPB Pocket plus.
and for the ugly t-mobile color, just install an skin for it. and do a soft reset.
excuse my bad english
Try tapping Start/ Organiser a new window will open desplaying icons for Claculator, Calendar, Notes and Tasks - Strange place to bury the calculator but it is there - Mike
when installing a skin for the phone pad, does it need to be unlocked first or something... and kindof a noob question, but will i lose my warranty?? Where can I download like legal themes for the PDA??
BTW, i found the calc just where you said it would be mike, And i linked it to my right software button!
Forget the CALC from Windows. Try searching for eval. Nice and free Calculator...
You will find it here
http://home.comcast.net/~jonsachs/#Eval 1.0
.. and some other nice and usefull programs
Hello I just got a new 8525 and installed the LVSW_RUU_Hermes_WWE_3.30.0.9 ROM I used to have WIzard with the WM6 and the [BETA] WM6 Dailer Skin - Big Buttons & Smartdail http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297530
I looked around but couldnt find anything like that for the Hermes, My fingers are too big for the regular dialer. Thanks in advance.
I know there's a few threads around with some bigger than usual dialr skins. I see what I uncover for.

Yes tried see the skins but I dont see the big buttons like the wizard
How about the iPhone themed dialer pad? Thats pretty big.
The skin in that link looks a lot like the ETen Dialer. You can use the ETen Dialer on the Hermes, in fact, it's what I use because of my "fat" fingers.
The downside is that the default ETen Dialer disables the smart-dial feature - this doesn't affect me because I don't use it. There is a thread around here somewhere on getting smart-dial to work with ETen.

Hmm I was trying to search for ETEN in hermes forum and nothing on the skin can I just try that skin from wizard ?
I coudn't tell you if you could use the one for the Wizard - I'm still learning tricks on my Hermes as well (I just got mine back in February).
There is a website (http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.html) that has some of the ETen dialer skins. I use Classic by JPL, in light blue, since it (sort of) matches the old Windows Mobile 5 theme, which I prefer over the black theme in the Black ROM.
Some of the ETen skins will cover up the "last caller" information in portrait mode, so try the different skins and see what you like.

Tried the skin from the wizard and it doesnt work I like the smartdial and like/need the big buttons damit I`m stuck.....
I also would love a bigger dialer skin.......the vista skin I had for my wizard was great! It was the one that had the gel buttons.....man I sure do miss it. I guess this is probably the thing I miss the most.
Well I pretty much found what I was looking for, it doesnt use WM6 style buttons or smartdial but its big buttons with smartdial, the color kinda sucks for me, but its better then nothing take a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297797 POST #10
Hi guys,
I seem to have a small issue with my hd...
In the start menu you get the green highlight or so i've seen in clips anyway but on my hd its Grey!
I've noticed that its green like it should be when i disable tf3d but goes back to grey when its enabled, the clips i've seen of everyone else's show it works either way so whats up with my hd?
I'm not sure if this was the correct place to post but its theme related so...i hope it is.
Thanks in advance.
Lee.
EDIT: In case more info is needed.....
The handset is a week old today
Standard Orange UK Rom
Standard TF3D Skin
Standard Top and Bottom bars (HTC Black)
Changes from Stock:
Installed CF 3.5 (set as default)
Installed HDTweak
Installed HideSim Contacts
Installed Diamong Hologram (and ati driver)
Installed Google Maps
Installed CorePlayer
I don't know if any of the above could of affected it,i can't remember if it was like that to begin with.
Really don't wanna do a hard reset.
Wow,80+ views and no 1 has any idea or even advice on where to start looking?
I think i may of bought the wrong phone as people in the hermes thread couldn't wait to help when i had an issue with that.
Oh well Hard Reset time, thanks anyway.
in HD tweak item 1.11 (in category call) there is highlight color option..change that and see if it helps
let us know
try this....my went gray the other day and I changed it back. It is a lot like HD Tweak, but also has some things that it doesn't. Between the two you should be set.
Thanks guys but still no luck.
The setting in HDTweak doesn't seem to be related and i see nothing relating to the highlight colour in Advanced Config.
Its just really wierd that it works ok when touchflow isn't loaded.
Mine is also grey, and it is an Orange one as well
So it is probably a modification directly from Orange...
i remember friend bought a MDA compact IV which actually is HTC Diamond but slightly modified and it is a TMobile...and all of the settings were different...
Whole touchflo was pink n stuff - tmobile theme...
So it has got something to do with it being an Orange ROM...with by Orange modified TouchFlo...
this was not much of help...but try to google something like changing manila highlight color (+ maybe Orange ROM or sumthing like that)
let us know
