I have a problem that more people seem to have, according to the search. I couldn’t find the “audio” tab in my Bluetooth-settings, so that didn’t help me.
The problem is as follows. After 1 day the sound on my compact III mutes, including vibration. Sometimes it's after 12 hours, sometimes after 2 days, there's no distinct pattern to be recognized. Also, it doesn't seem to matter if you use the phone or not, since it sometimes is alright at night and the sound is muted the next morning. This is for all sound-events (warnings, incoming call notifications, messages, mp3 etc), however, you can make a call without any problems and hear what the other person is saying. Once you’ve hard-reset the device everything is back to normal.
It does get annoying however, since I regularly miss calls due to this bug.
I had the same problem on my Vario in the past. So I’m guessing it’s somewhere in the software I use, but apart from Total Commander and TomTom6 I haven’t installed any third-party apps.
Yup i've been having a slight problem with the sound. I thought it was like the endless knackered M500's that orange used to send me which had speaker failure after about 10minuites! (Swear they kept sending me the same 2 faulty phones - I had 5 in 5 days once!) But a play in the bluetooth seems to get it working again.
The other annoying thing is that if you leave the power management at the default settings then occasionally the screen blanks without being able to get the backlight on again - so now I have to manually turn of the screen. Stil aint much of a problem - ive had a normal days use, 2 hours of radio play, bluetooth and wi-fi on all day and still have 35% battery - wehay!
Hopefully there'll be a patch soon to sort out he glitches.
I forgot to mention I had the exact same problem on my mda Vario also. I always thought it was a problem with that specific piece, but apparantly not.
Could it be the vibrate.cab that I'm using to produce vibrations when you use the phonepad? Or should I really do some further research in the bluetooth-department?
Same problem here.
Phone becomes completely silent after 9 hours in standby mode.
I need to reset it to get back sound
Does someone know what is going on here ?
Please advise. Thank you.
I seem to experience no problems the past couple of days (fingers crossed). I used the 'speed up your WM5' tweak where you set the Glyphcache to 32768. After I reduced it to 16something the problems seem to have disappeared.
I noticed that this problem happens when for example email is automatically checked during night. If email comes in (and is not read immediately) the phone will start notifying in background.
Notifications are kept and only a program like "check notifications" will delete them manually. But still if you delete them, the phone then needs a reset
to work properly again.
This is not a memory issue, it has to do with the notifications.
I do not know how to solve it.
When I am on a call and another person rings, most of the time when I try to accept the incoming call the phone will hang. If I wait until the incoming call give up then sometimes I can go back to the first call but often I lose both.
When the phone loses both calls, it shows no service for about 10 seconds then finds a signal and can then be used again.
I thought the issue was with the Black Edition ROM but even when I have switched to Schaps the problem exists.
I have never updated the radio on my phone as I am pretty sure I bricked my last one doing a radio update. It is still with the orginal T-Mobile UK radio stack.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Aidan
did you install some programs that might be conflicting with that? I had that issue before and I format the phone and start all over and the problem is gone now.
Hi,
last week I installed Artemis Touch 3.01 ROM. Sometimes my phone is not available although it is turned on and the signal strength is high. After sofreset phone is working again. Is there a solution for this problem?

Yes, install Touch 2.1 and everything is ok. Other solution is to use soft reset when it´s happen....
I'm also had this problem after installing version 3.01. I normally happened twice a day.
Now I installed HTC original WM6 ROM, and the problem still happens(although not so often). I'm thinking the GSM chip is broken in some way...
hi,
I had installed O2 Premium 2.0 WM6 WWE ROM, 5.2.1921 SDHC Full for 3 weeks. It happened the same to me once a day. I had to do softreset as an only solution.
Now I am trying Touch 3.01 for 4 days and it did not happen. I wonder what makes this bug and if there is a solution to fix it.
If u know the solution or reason please let us know.
I think it's a problem with the new radio upgrade, I went back to 02.98.90 and everything's ok.

Does anyone also has this problem with Touch 2.1? If not I will try it because it also has Radio 02.98.90 ...
I had this problem with Touch 2.1 & Touch 3.0 (Radio is 02.98.90) I can't call or send SMS out (it say not available wait for 15 second) but can receive call and sms to me!
I tried newest Touch 3.01 (Radio 3.07.90) and the problem fixed, I did not see this problem 2 weeks ago!
Same bug but difference cases so I think this bug is not by Radio, so please try install another ROM
For me Radio 3.07.90 is fine!
By the way, you don't have to soft reset, just close and open the phone in Comm Manager
had same problem for the first time...
hello all
I have written the following in the main 3.01 thread:
I just want to address this point, I had a Qtek S200 (I am not sure but it may be the prophet) and I have experienced similar problems, this was also why I have sold it after 3 months... - what I am trying to say is that this may be either an HTC or WM related problem.
However, I have not experienced this with my artemis wich I have since september so far and I have used wm5, touch 2.01 full and now since release 3.01 full, but it is also rather hard to find that bug...

unfortunately, I have now also experienced the problem, I was not available. However, I was able to make a phonecall and receive a SMS from which I took notice of the problem.
I must say, I would not have much of problem to close and open the phone on comm man. or even soft reset, I would just like to prevent to do it too often. How do you guys find out that you are unavailable again? The reception does not seem a good indication as it was full when I was not available...
Thanks for your comments,

Im having this problem too since i intalled WM& first the HTC official rom, and now with touch 3.01..first i thought it was some app but the problem still exists and the annoying part is that i dont know when the phone app freezes and i dont receive sms or phone call alert. I always have to check to see if i have phone or not anyone discovered a solution?
Anyone? It's happening at least one time per day

It sounds like you're talking about something else. I think the OP was saying that his signal shows full or good and when he tries to make a phone call, it says the phone is not ready or available. You said you're able to make calls and SMS, but with this situation, you cannot connect to use the phone at all except BT, Wifi, & GPS. I'm assuming you mean that people can't reach you when they call but your can still make phone calls. ? I've had that happen to me on other phones in the past. I always thought it was a network issue.
I too have this problem and I've had it on the Touch ROMs and the Premium 2.1 ROM that I'm currently using. I've used radio 02.98.90 & now using 3.07.90. I can't remember if I had the issue with 02.98.90 though. But it's the same as the OP. The signal shows full but you can't make a phone call or anything. If you go to the Comm Mgr and try to turn the radio off and then on, it will not turn the radio off. The signal still shows full but no connectivity. This usually happens to me if I go a few days to a week without soft resetting. I reset my device maybe once every 2 days to avoid the problem.
So I'm not sure if it's a radio problem, ROM problem, or hardware problem. It doesn't happen that often so I just live with it but I'd love to learn what the source of the problem is and get a fix (or work around) for it. I was just thinking yesterday that maybe I need to go back to radio 02.98.90 but from the posts, it seems that it is happening on this radio too.
What happen to me is that the pda works normal the signal strenght too but when i press the green key to acess the phone or go to lost call or so nothing happen. And when the phone rings when in this state it only lights the keypad light but wont ring or show anything on the sreen and wont register a lost call or any SMS..

I have Vanilla 1.0 and I had that problem two times a week. It was caused by enAlarmPPC -alarmclock program, which freezed TomTom Navigator when loading it and caused that problem too. When I took enAlarmPPC away, it has done it only once during 30 days.
The problem was annoying, because I thought all things are fine, and I did not know, that I cannot make a phone call or to receive it or to send and receive sms.
The only program i have for alarm e spb time now but i will try to remove it to see if it works. Thanks.
Just got this issue today directly after connecting to wifi and updating weather. Phone was working fine - no resets or malfunctions for 5 days! The only thing I've done today that I haven't done in the past 5 days was connect to wifi. I just noticed my signal was full at work and I know it's usually about 4 bars. So I tried to make a phone call and got the following message:
"Cannot complete the call. The signal may be unavailable or the phone number may not be valid. Verify the number or try again later."
And when I try to connect to GPRS, I get this message:
"Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacture's documentation and try again."
This is all while the signal strength is full and the green light is flashing. I just doen't know Maybe it has something to do with the Comm manager. I haven't used the Comm Mgr in 5 days either, so could be issues with it since it seems to be ineffective at turning the phone on or off in this condition. Hopes someone can figure this out.
same problem
I had touch 2 installed and it worked fine for months. but last 2 weeks the phone freezes and I can't do anything and have to soft reset.
Now I installed Touch 3.0 and again the same problem. once or twice a day when I press a button, the screen stays black doesn't respond at all. sometimes I start a app (random) and it just freezes and I have to sof reset.
remember i worked months with Touch 2 and never had the problem!
Already tried to take spb time but still freeze the phone app with no warning and random..only one time after two day but i miss a lot os sms or important calls since i have to chech everytime if its stuck or not
I have had to send my Leo back for repair due to white patches developing on the screen. As I had given my last device (an iPhone) to the missus, I have gone back to using my O2 Orbit until my HD2 is returned but I have just remembered why I stopped using it.
I have this really annoying issue where, after a random amount of time (could be hours, could be days), it simply won't accept incoming calls or texts, despite it seeming to have a full network signal. Outgoing calls work as normal but if you call the phone, it goes straight to voicemail and if you send a text message, it won't be received. However, as soon as I perform a soft reset the phone goes back to normal and any texts which were sent while it wasn't working get arrive. Then it eventually happens again. It doesn't seem to be a rom issue as I have had this problem with at least 5 cooked roms and the original O2 one.
Anyone have the same issue or is it, as I suspect, simply a case of the phone being shagged? I would love to get this resolved as at the moment I'm having to call it once an hour to make sure it rings which is a bit annoying.
im having the same issue but a small difference, i get this prob so frequently around 5~8 times a day...........
im jus suspicious on the battery.......
could u jus look at ur battery voltage when 100% charged and reply plz????
ive jus asked this same issue here

Hello everybody,
Everything is fine with my Arc, except for the huge problem that sometimes I simply can't answer an incoming call! It happens like this: When a call is incoming, the phone starts ringing and vibrating as it usually does. However, the screen that is supposed to come up which shows you who is calling and where you can select to accept or reject the call is simply not showing up.
Has anybody experienced this before?
All I can do is slide to unlock the screen and then I'm looking at my home screen with the phone still ringing but no chance to get the call. There is nothing in the notification area or anywhere else where I could answer the call. All I can do is to wait until the ringing stops!! Really really bad behavior.
Furthermore, once the ringing has stopped, there is no information about the missed call in the call log. So I can't even call back the person who called me!
First time this happened I had "Plants vs Zombies" running so I figured the phone wasn't fast enough to switch to the incoming call. But it also happens when the phone is idling.
There seems to be no scheme behind all of this. Sometimes it happens twice in a row, sometimes only once a week.
I got my unbranded simlock free Arc in mid April with 2.3.2 and .181 firmware and applied Gingerbreak for root access. Later I upgraded via PC Companion to 2.3.3. and .145 firmware. But I lost root which I didn't like. So I downloaded the Generic World Firmware .181 and flashed it on the phone. Then used Gingerbreak again and made an OTA update to 2.3.3. and .145 firmware. Now I have root and the latest firmware.
All the while I used Titanium Backup to restore all my data, settings and apps as I don't want to reinstall all from scratch because it would take forever.
With this latest firmware, everything is fine, except for the call problem!
Please help me, what can I do?? I don't want to reflash and upgrade or whatever or lose all my data. I just want my phone to be able to handle calls as it should be!!
P.S.: I used Antek App Manager and frooze (not deleted!) some apps which where uncessesary and running in the background or at startup which speed up my startup time and free ram quite a bit. But I didn't frooze any crucial apps, at least I hope. Only stuff like Chinese keyboard and Let's Golf etc.
Also, if I would have frozen the call handling app or something, I wouldn't be able to accept calls in most cases, wouldn't I?

Think you may have answered your own question here...
could be, but on the other hand I only frooze really stupid apps which should not affect any important functions of the phone. Also, if I frooze something important related to calls, why is it working most of the time? This is what I don't get.
Here is what I frooze (most of them just took up space in the app drawer and I don't use them), maybe it helps:
- stock browser (I use Opera)
- chinese keyboard (I'm german and don't need it)
- "Downloads"
- retaildemo
- live ware manager
- fb mediadiscovery
- dlna server
- news and weather
- postcard
- SE setup wizard
- sim toolkit
- sony ericsson sync service
- playnow
- sony ericsson support
- track id
- twitter
- let's golf
- google talk
- sony ericsson sync client wizard
so is your problem solved?
Anything related to google should be left alone news and weather should be fine to freeze or delete but would leave Talk alone, and depending what data from which FW was backed up, might also be an issue.
so I defrosted Google Talk. Anything else I should defrost?
Under "Settings" and then "Running services" I sometimes stop "Timescape Legacy Plugin" or whatever it's called because it takes up RAM. Could this also be a cause but I believe it's only for the Timescape app which I seldom use.

I have the exact same problem.
It doesn't happen often but it's really annoying either way.
I barely installed anything off the market and I don't use any sort of app killers/managers.
that's strange because I thought it could be my own fault because I played around and frooze same apps. But it's "good" to know that I'm not the only one.
Do you have any hints about when it happens or when not? Can you exclude anything?
Today, I re-enabled all the froozen apps and then frooze some of them again, according to the thread here on xda. But only apps about which I was really sure.
Don't know how I could test if the error is gone. I mean, have people calling me 100 times and hope it occurs or not doesn't really sound great.
may be there is some problem in your firmware, try some other firmware of other region.................

That's the weirdest part, the only thing I used that day was Whatsapp.
The incident happened about 5 hours later, I was in a car when my phone started ringing.
I tried picking it up but.. I guess you know the rest..
I was about to buy this phone but now I'm having second thoughts.
@flamez
yesterday it happened to me again. The weird thing is, that my girlfriend said she called me three times but I heard it ringing four times! She claims she didn't call me between her second and her third call! But it definetly rang but I couldn't answer it. Also my other friends say that they didn't call me at this time. Could be someone calling who I don't know at the exact time but the chance is slim I guess.
Also whenever there is such a phantom call, there's not even a hint of it inside the missing calls log. And when this happens, nobody ever leaves a message on my mailbox. Is this the same for you? Could be the person is just lazy but I don't know.
Furthermore, it happened several times to me already and never once a person asked me later why I didn't get their call. Strange, isn't it. It almost seems like that there was no one calling at all!
Now, could it be for some unknown reason that our phones just start ringing as if there is a call but in fact there isn't one at all?! You know, the phone just running crazy and triggering the ringtone? That could be the reason why the "accept call screen" doesn't show up and there's no call log because there is now call!
I know, sounds very weird. But think about it. They could be really "ghost calls".

No, I don't think that's it..
It's happened only twice to me over a 2-3 month period and my friends have always called me back asking why I never pick up the phone.
It really just happens about once a month to me, and I can answer the second time they call me right away without any problem.
Are you guys running task killers?
{EDIT - I remember OP saying that he'd frozen a load of stuff.. Suggest that if you're getting this a lot that you un freeze all of it and see how it goes, maybe just freeze the end user apps - like Lets Golf HD at first then build up the frozen apps slowly until you get the problem..}

No, as I said before, I'm not using any sort of task killers/app managers.
Today first time i encountered same problem. I have WhatsApp running in background. No task killer, nothing else.
Though i donno how to solve this problem. But i can surely tell how to pick up call in this case.
Just press the power key, this will take phone in locked state, but the call wont be rejected.
now click the home key and you will see the answer key, now slide it, it will slide without problem
it's good news that you found a workaround! I'll try to remember it the next time it happens.
Today, I had the problem again but this time it was different. The slider or the contact picture of the person calling didn't appear, but I could see the number of the person who is calling in the notification bar (not the name, just the number although this number and contact is stored in my contacts).
This happened the first time, all the other times the phone just rang without any hint of who is calling.
It would be nice if we were able to pinpoint a certain event which causes this odd behavior but so far I had no luck. What I'm doing differently since the last time it happened is, that I don't use task killers anymore. But still, it happened again today.
It's difficult to find out what it is when you don't know what causes it and when it will happen. For example, it happened to me today once for the first time in about a week.
in recent days, "it" happened very often to me!
Sometimes, the phone manages to at least show the number of the person calling so that I can call back. But usually it doesn't! The call just disappears into nirvana.
Do you guys remember if the error is associated with a certain amount of RAM left available? In other words, if the available RAM at the time of the incoming call is below a certain limit (which I don't know) the phone can't display the call. When it happened to me today, I had only 90MB RAM left. Maybe the phone can't free up enough RAM fast enough?!
Also the trick, which somebody mentioned a few posts above me, that when it happens you press the power button and then home and then you can slide and accept the call very rarely works!
I'm desperate and don't know what to do about it. I have just finished adjusting my phone to my needs. I linked apps with Link2SD and now have over 100 apps installed and still 215MB left on the internal memory, I have root and the .145 firmware. Everything is fine, except for this error!! It would take ages to restore it to the point where it is now, if it is complety possible at all.
I mean, if a phone can't handle calls, what good is it for?
I had a NEC e616 years ago which frooze while sending SMS or crashed after connecting a call or during a call and other "funny" things, but this was well known for this model.
But we don't have 2004 anymore and I except the Arc to work.
I could send it in on warranty, possibly. But then everything would be erased and it would take forever to get it repaired.
And I'm afraid they are going to tell me that they couldn't reproduce the error (because it happens so randomly)!
Such a nice and beautiful phone if not for this stupid error!
I'm already tempted to get rid of the phone and look for something else. But who's going to buy a phone with a bug which can't display phone calls?!!
I mean, I could reset it and flash the fimware and stuff and then hope. Maybe the error is gone. Maybe it persists and then all my data is gone and I have to start from scratch.
Or it is gone and then I have to start from scratch also!
If I should be forced to do it all over again and have all the work, then I could do it on another phone as well.
The Samsung Galaxy SII is quite ugly, to wide and big but I hope it can at least handle a call?!
Thank you for any help!!
Hmm..
If it happens rarely.. Why don't you sell it off on ebay
If asked about other mobile. I prefer sensation to sgs2. Much better phone function. In fact IMO htc is better than all other androids when it comes to phone functions.
