Has any one managed to expose the extended rom on the XDA2i for custom instalation on boot.
Also Vodafone Instalation cab works fine on XDA2i with all functions working.
I'm trying to do the same thing - has anyone managed to expose the extended rom on the XDA2i?
It was dumped a long time ago. The 3900 build of Bluetooth drivers comes from there.
Qtek 2020i problem
hi mamaich
I have bought Qtek 2020i before 2 days, can you please direct me how to unlock my extended rom? I will be very thankful to you if you help me in this issue
note: I tried the extended rom unlocker that was prepared for Himalaya and the one for Blueangel too and didn't show even my extended rom folder after soft reseting.
Re: Qtek 2020i problem
I don' have 2020i, so I cannot help with extrom unlocking.
Is there an Extended Rom Unlock Utility for the 2i?
We are desparately in need of a way to unlock the extended ROM of the XDA2i. The reason for this is that our application--for whatever reason--is not compatible with the 3900 bluetooth build, but IS compatible with earlier builds such as that found on the XDA2s.
If it is true that the ROM has been unlocked to gain the 3900 bluetooth build--then can someone please post a link to the way in which this was done and any utilities or software used to do it?!
Re: Is there an Extended Rom Unlock Utility for the 2i?
You can manually edit extended ROM image (NBF file) with extended ROM editor tool (I'don't remember its exact name, look into WiKi), delete CAB file and reflash. But I don't think that downgrading to build 3501 would help. You'd better fix your app.
I've tried this, used ER2003Edit_1_4_26. I have the nbf but it is telling me I can't open them because the password is incorrect. I have looked around quite a bit for a solution but have found none.
Is there a password which will allow one to gain entry to (ie edit and repackage) such that I can truly update the extended ROM of an XDA2i?
ERROR, ERROR ERROR
Sorry for my english
Since April i search a way to edit ExtRom on Qtek 2020i, but it seems that is to complicate for developers.
Status at this day
1) You can see extrom and by this way copy and save cab on other place. To do that you must reset just after steep 1 of hard reset and use your explorer. Other way, with your explorer, go to windows folder and simply run LoadVDisk.exe
2) You can't write into ExtRom
3) You can't edit rom with actuals tools (ER Edit, Dump ....). Passwords is unknow and i think memory adresses are differents
4) Also If you can't write in your Storage, because looked after used differents tools proposed by many peoples who know, to unlock your Extrom, flashing rom do not return Storage in normal status. It's my case and somebody with apparent good intention, but totaly incompetent, can you push to make an fatal error, thank's to all.
I'm am ungry when i read some absurbity (exemple in this forum). When we don't know, we must no speak
so is it impossible now to get the Srorage folder as before, I have this problem now in my 2020i, I cannot write into Storage HELPPPPPPPPP
It's exactly tha i said
DON'T USE FOR MOMENT ANY EXISTANT TOOLS TO UNLOK QTEK 2020I
Any progress in unlocking the extended ROM on XDA 2i anyone?
if somebody can povide me with valid source code I may try converting it for xdaIIi, I have one source now but missing some header files which I couldnt find like Pwinuser.h
I have free time these days, and I am sure that we have many good people here but maybe we need more effort, so let us share our experience on what we found so far, and try to solve this problem ASAP, what makes me more angrey these days is the Storage which also cannot be unlocked back...
so common guys, let's rock it out!
Hi
About storage i have unlocked mine. This lock Storage was appear after trying to unlock Extrom. Pls read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23154&highlight=
For me Storage locked is finish with this simple action.
For Extrom what header do you need ?
I put here registry and files extract from 2020i about Extrom that is nammed VDISK and use VDISK.dll. We can see ExtRom without reset to run LoadVdisk.lnk or .exe directly
I have also original installation of French ROM 1.11.02, Extended 1.11.115 and Radio 1.02 FRE.
Thank's for your support
I need the C header file not the registry information, read my reply to your post about the Storage, I explained there how does these things work out, at least for the 2020i a far as I could find out, if there is anyone on this forum who can add something or correct me, that would be nice, because we want all to work together to solve this problem ASAP.
I am now trying to find out the functions indside the dll file and find out how do they work, then I will try the password that is provided in this forum to unlock the extended rom. what happens to the Storage is that the old program has 2 parts: lock and unlock, when we tried to unlock, nothing happened because the password and device type was wrong, and when we tried to lock, the code didnt check the device name niether the password and directly locked the diskonchip drive which is in our case the Storage folder. I read the source code and this is what I understood, so I am trying to modify it to unlock one of these folders, and since it was not put completely on the FTP (missing header files) I couldnt compile the code!
EMU, i write respons about Storage in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23154&highlight=
Let me know if it's ok for you
Désolate for header file, i don't have it
I have an XDA2i. Is there any way I can provide the header files you're talking about? If so, please provide detailed instructions for how I would do it.
Hi Guys,
there is already a new version of ER2003Edit (not published yet!!!) which can open .nbf files of Qtek 2020i. The only problem is with checksum calculation. I am using Itsme's Perl script, but it has a problem calculating the checksum and he didn't have time to fix it yet.
Anyone else...?
Hi EMU
What are the status of your trying to unlol Extrom. Can we help you ?

Hi,
I have been playing around with ROMs and reading stacks of posts about cooking your own, but am slightly confused. Most of the threads seem to assume a certain level of understanding and also most of the info seems to relate to modifying the nk.nbf file.
I have taken the Orange AKU2 update and then added the ms_.nbf and radio_.nbf files from the latest Dutch TMobile ROM and put it on my Universal, but when it installed it appears to have added a number of TMobile files.
So am I right in thinking that the operators modify the ms_nbf as well as the radio_nbf?
Also is there a definitive article or thread around providing a step by step approach to putting together a custom ROM?
There are some things I like about the Orange ROM, but other areas I would like to remove. Also there are some things I spotted on the TMobile ROM (like streaming video) that would be handy to have.
THanks in advance.

Okay, well I don't really know too much about the nbf files but when you do a ROM upgrade using whichever ROM you want, i.e., Orange, T-Mobile, I-Mate, etc, once the PDA reboots and then runs a customization it installs files that the individual operators have set for their version of the pda. The thing you should do is that before the pda starts customizing do a hard reset and after the reboot you'll see the basic Windows Mobile PDA. Then you should do an ExtendedROM unlock and then you'll see all the files that the operator has set the pda to install. What I did was try out all the different ROMs and still ended up with the latest T-Mobile UK ROM from BuzzDev.net. Then I did the tedious task of installing each one separately and then rebooting after each one to see what it changes. You can then add or remove the ones you don't want or want and edit the config.txt (on T-Mobile ROM) and then you have it all. Or after each format reboot before the customization, unlock the ExtendedROM and then install all the cabs you want and then reboot.
As for which one does what I really don't know too much. I do know the obvious ones like the MMS one and all but that's about it. There are a lot of good resources on BuzzDev that you should check out. Hope this helps.
Thanks.
I'm slowly getting to grips with it all, but just need some more time to run through all the messages on here to get a better handle on cooking your own ROMs.
It's a shame no one has the time to consolidate the great info on here and put it up on the Wiki.
operators put their customisation tools in ms_.nbf file, which acutally representst the extended rom.
You just got your X01HT and would like to use the latest WM6 ROM in English with your Softbank account ?
Here is a quick guide, gathering information that has been exchanged and spread accross many threads on this forum (Searches can be fastidious, I know that well...)
I have been reading this forum a lot, keeping on asking questions to everybody, so it's time I contribute a bit to help by describing step by step how I switched my Japanese WM5 Softbank X01HT to a WM6 English device
This post is target at Gaijins who want an English WM6, but still want to be able to use Japanese with it. For a Japanese MUI or ROM, I guess Asukal will probably publish something
***EDIT: for a 100% Japanese ROM, you can now have it here: http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option...um_query=read,40,30486,30597,page=2#msg-30597 ***
I was first willing to cook a ROM including all these, in order to spare some space on my HERMES. I had already cooked an "intermediary" one when Tadzio issued his method to make a "shrinked" OS ROM that would allow you to use the spare space from the ROM
Since this, no point in adding all these mods in my ROM
First: making flashing safe
Download Hard-SPL-V2 from the great Olipro to avoid bricking your device. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Install it
Then, get your ROM.
Download the_passenger ROM shrink version of LVSW 20070320 ROM (More space available) and install it (Read threads about flashing ROMs if you are not familiar with that...)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8YJATBPG
Install the Softbank AP Settings for your internet connection. You really WANT that. Big thanks to itamae without whom we'd be stuck on first of April this year... (Or I'd still be using WM5)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298031
Now you need a Registry editor
I am used to PHM Regedit. You can find it there for free:
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
To map properly your Softbank Keyboard, do the following registry modifications:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty] "Layout"= 30411 (Hexadecimal base)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload] "Default"= e0010411
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1] "Default"= e0010411
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286787&highlight=keyboard+x01HT
To allow the video Call key to appear on your phone keypad, modify the registry as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin] Enabled = 1
Optional: getting rid of useless trayapp (It looks nice... but it Slows down the Hermes and you can replace it with better apps)
Delete TrayApp key from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
Fix the disappearing micro SD (Doesnt really work for mine... But could work for yours...)
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPUnloadDelay" = dword:8196 (Decimal base)
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPWaitIODelay" = dword:8196 (Decimal base)
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324
Now time to have your Hermes speak Japanese
Japanese fonts
Use the excellent work from Asukal, that you can find here:
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/LetsJapanNo5.zip
I did have a problem with it: once I executed it, I could not sync with my Exchange server (Quite a pain for my push email account...)
Asukal found the solution: edit the registry, and change
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mobem\CE-Star] "MyNLS" = "\windows\wince.nls"
Japanese input
Not using for myself, but these work perfectly (I tried):
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/BagojsINPUT.zip
*** EDIT
If you prefer a Japanese input without the annoying "Floating bar", ie just the same input way as your original WM5 Softbank ROM, just downlaod and install the "MS IME31 J" link from Asukal's page:
http://hn801.hkes.com/Data/SIP/IME_31J_QVGA_F.zip
*** /EDIT
Silent mode switch
You're going to be missing the Softbank unique way of switching to silent mode (Only available in Softbank ROM)
The way to go around this is by using Vibra
Details available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277811&highlight=vibra
Download here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31657&d=1164714506
MMS
Softbank's MMS System is a pain because it's incompatible with "classic" MMS systems...
You can download Softbank's software... But... it's slow, big, bulky, ugly, etc... If you dont mind missing the emoticons, you should go for MMSLite
Regedit, Look for Arcsoft. Delete all references to Arcsoft (Sometimes need to be done in several times, some entries being in use if you have by mistake launched MMS Composer once since your flash of the OS...)
If you dont do these eletions, MMSLite will actually not install...
Downlaod and install MMSLite
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33982&d=1170599400
It should work perfectly !
I you have enough courage (And ONLY after having installed Hard-SPL 1.11 !!!), you can try flashing your radio
You dont have to... but the latest 1.38 does seem to grant an improved battery life
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297925
Now you're done, you have a great phone with a faster OS, more storage space, improved battery life, that works perfectly with Softbank AP, can use Softbank proprietary MMS system, and can read and write Japanese
After, there are lots of other things you can do, like mounting your Extended ROM to gain extra space, Unlock the SIM, etc, etc... But it is not the purpose of this thread. Have fun reading the forum, it is well documented in other threads
Have fun !!

you mean to say, sim unlocking is done after the wm6 flash? why would some do that before the flash?
Hello,
The only problem when upgrading is the Japanese input. I used sometimes (so I need it), but I I install Japanese input package you told in your post the I have a really annoying floating bat anywhere, and it's really unnoying.
There is no way to have same kind of input in enlish ROM?

Try Asukal's IME package (see bottom of page):
http://asukal.net/blog/?cat=8&paged=3
... it includes the input method from WM5 (or one extremely similar). I'm using it with WM6 Black Edition 1.2 and have had no problems with input so far.
As for other Japanese/Japan-conversion-related issues:
- I found that when the Japanese wince.nls file is loaded, .NET CF programs crash with a 'PlatformNotSupportedException' error.
- With MMSLite installed, I can receive MMS, but not send.

I actually installed the Japanese ROM you linked to, it works like a charm, but I have a question to SoftBank users :
I'm going to work in Japan soon (1st of April) but I want to use my Hermes as my primary phone, etc. Is it possible to go to a SoftBank shop and tell them basically "Don't ask me how, but this phone is SoftBank-compatible. Now please register it into the SoftBank network and gimme a standard phone subscription. Thanks".
Meaning how can I register my phone (SIM card ? I looked and they seem to have only outrageously expensive SIM cards on loan for 108円 a day, with no 3G connectivity. Or is it possible to get a standard subscription?)?
Thanks for your help

Really? I don't get a floating bar.
Did you try it on a clean installation of WM6, or did you install it after installing the Bagojs IME? Maybe some settings in the registry are causing the bar to appear.
Also, did you set your locale to Japanese in "Control Panel->System->Regional Settings"?

You shouldn't need to install both BagojsIME and Asukal's IME package, just Asukal's. BagojsIME provides an older version of the MS IME.
Use you own phone with SB
You can pick a ZERO Yen phone to do a new contract with SB. Then change the sime card to your onw phone. Suppose you have a sim-unlock phone.

I didnt have to install anything to get the Manner mode working. I think this is implemented in WMXL. But when i set the phone skin security to 1
my phone pad disappears, turns white. Renders unusable. The only fix for me is to set it back to 0.
This might be due to the carrier setting, it happens immediately after running SB external rom carrier info.
Any ideas?

Hiya everyone,
I'm a bit of a noobie when it comes to flashing phones - but I'm really wanting to get a stable reliable version of WM6 on my Tytn. I've had the HTC Offical WM6 ROM (that keeps hangin when the phone goes to sleep - have to SR to get the phone working again), I've tried Black Satin (the WiFi/new Com Manager doesn't seem to work very well).
There seems to be tonnes of different ROMs - and I'm wondering is there one that stands out above the rest for reliability?
I've done a search and not found the answer to this - so anyone with any info....?
Ta people
A
My best recommendation is READ the threads on the different roms.
The comments on them will give you a good idea of how the ROMs are running on people's phones.

I'd have to agree with this except for one minor thing.....BB Connect will not work with Schap's Rom.
Anyone willing to Hex Edit it and make it work? I PM'd Schap however I'm assuming he's already flooded with requests.
I guess we can help by suggesting things you may want to look out for:
Only some of these may/may not be important to you...
BBConnect compaitibility
Big Storage, Free RAM & Storage
Smart Dialling
3G Video Dialling
Office Version (They're all pretty much 2007 now, but not all have OneNote)
BT issues - Stereo, DUN vs/and Internet Sharing
Included apps, Standard File Explorer
Included Dialpad style & functions, Kaiser/std ?
Included CommManager & Style
Speed & Stability
MMS/SMS combins (Arcsoft Version)
Included operator settings?
Included Homescreens - HTC Weather etc etc
VOIP functionality
PTT functionality
I'm sure there are loads more...
Lets turn this thread into something useful. Rather than this rom is better than that, etc, lets help the Noobs by adding to this list of things they may want to consider.
my £0.02.
i've tried most, and i'd definitely go for schap's, preferably 3.57

All current ROMs ( and you do want to run the latest, as 99% ROMs released before June have issues ) on this forum are based on the same release. So technically speaking they are all same. The difference is added / removed applications and how well this was done.
Regarding BBC - even if the ROM does not state the compatibility - it is a matter of 4 simple steps to make it compatible. 1) Download the ROM file, unrar it to desktop - you'll get 2 files extracted .exe and .nbh ( RUUWrapper.exe RUU_signed.nbh ) 2) Run winhex ( http://www.x-ways.net/ ) and load the .nbh file, HEX search for the first string in my signature and replace it with the second string. There is going to be 2 occurences you'll have to replace. Save the .nbh file 3) execute the .exe file to flash the .nbh ROM file to your device 4) after the flash use a registry editor to change [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Versions] "Aku"=".2.3.0"
Of course you have to be careful and all disclaimers apply
If this is over your head - just PM me.

I just started recently and have tested some 3 or 4 roms now, but already i find that doing all my customizing and app install is tedious, so i was looking for some method to make it easier.
* i have seen an app that could roll multiple cabs into one - that would make reinstalling all cabs at once after new rom easier, but i cant find the app any more. any ideas on this one?
* backing up rom differences after doing customizations - what app could handle that? propositions?
If we can work some method to do this fast and easy we would get a lot more beta testers hence a lot faster development cycle could be achieved. (=

There are no shortcuts my friend. Some apps are installed to main memory and some to storage card, when installng apps there is interaction involved, therefore no universal solution.
Look here - you can integrate the new sys folders (apps) by building your rom in the kitchen (klick it on). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317866
You can do a backup with spb backup. This way you can keep all installed programs and changes. You can restor your backup in different roms too but you have to be aware that this would mess up a few thins.
Tryed this http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/pocketpcinstallationcreator.shtml one out - managet to create install with multiple cab files - so far so good.
But when i installed this merged install on my wm5 emulator it ended up adding links to cab files in programms folder - so much for instalation - useless.
Gues the search goes on.
Make your own extended rom with all your cabs in, this will do the trick. Its quite easy - its not like cooking a rom - i could do a simple tutorial if people wish - it only requires 2 apps
Meschle - yes, please, a tutorial for extrom making would be good, as i am still a bit green to start cooking roms - extrom would be nice way to start i suppose.

I would be very interested in this as well.
Cheers
Ok i'll post something tonight then in the artemis upgrading forum.
I'll keep it simple - the last tutorial posted by someone was way too complex - in the way i describe you'll make your own in 10 minutes

That is a super solution! I would love it!
Hey guys one downside to ext rom way - when installing cabs it does not give you option where to install (main memory or storage card) so everything installs to main memory.
This is ok for the programs you normally install there and registry entries. You can make a new cab that installs directly to storage card but that is a different story
OK, now i am a bit confused. As i understand there is a ROM memory on Artemis(128MB) which is divided in multiple areas - IPL1, IPL2, SPL, Splash, Radio, OS, ExtRom.
This ROM memory is writable by way of flashing. There is also storage area(not microSD) in device and operative memory.
So, as i unterstand it, putting apps in ExtROM is a pure saving, cus ur storage memory is not wasted.
Do i understand it correctly?
With the artemis rom, if you omit extended rom in your nbh building you get more storage memory (an addition of roughly the size of the omited ext rom) Likewize if you include extended rom then you loose equivalent memory from storage - so there is no advantage to having apps (i.e executables) in extended rom but for convenience sake to have cabs and settings can be useful. I suggest keeping extended rom small (2mb) so you dont loose much storage space.
Extended rom tutorial added here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327203
well maybe not 10 minutes then

For people who do not have an extended ROM - would'nt it be similar if they kept all the Cabs in 2577 Folder in the Storage Card with Autoexec and config files to execute them sequentially? I remember doing something like this when I was using the XDA IIs - but then now -
In my case, I rarely need to install anything except TomTom and Fullscreenkeyboard from SPB. The rest - I peek into the Cab using WinCE Cab Manager, then export the contents and now have made one big Cab (appx 4MB in size) with all my registry entries, tweaks, executables, shortcuts and copying relevant files into directories.
That way I execute only three cabs after a Hard reset and moreorless everyting is in place.
Yes dev - i used to have that in my orange spv - an autorun.exe in \2577 folder - last time i tried didnt work as i wanted - but i agree worth looking into.
With the ext_rom - the purpose was to add one for those that dont have.
Ok, was trying a quite a few roms that i had today, extracted em, but did not get the extrom.nb )=
Tried to open os.nb with winimage, but it kept saying something about wrong fat etc.
Is the extrom.nb different form os.nb and other *.nb? Why cant winImage open other nb files? Or is there something else i am missing?
Also, tiried SKtracker(didnt find any free app) demo - made snapshots before and after installing apps, then tried to export relevant registery subtrees.
That brings me to that there is no import functionality in phm regedit, but i found other free regedit app called TRE which can import/export edit etc.
Maybe this TRE tool is worth including in roms, if any cookers are reading.
Any better way to hack registery?
Hidden regedit

I mentioned this on another thread, but I discovered that FdcSoft's understated Task Manager v2.8 has a supperb regedit built in. It does everything that PHM Regedit does, but it can export and import really easily, just like Windows regedit. As meschle pointed out, PHM's is faster, but I still use the bloated Task Manager just because its regedit; and it also has lots of other stuff that comes handy on occasion.
Oh, great! So many stuff to fiddle with in meschle's PremiumPlus rom that I must have missed this one.
