Hi All,
I have been having problems with my XDA IIs, where the gprs wouldn't stay on when the device went in to suspend. We have been trying to find a solution for months - with no success.
After doing a hard reset, I noticed when selecting vodafone (australia) in autoconfig - the gprs connection would stay.
The AutoConfig was set for AP vfinternet.au - but we used AP internet to get a public IP.
As soon as we switched to internet - the gprs would drop out on suspend.
After playing around, hunting down the cab used in autoconfig, I found a registry file that was executed. The Contents was:
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"CacheTime"=dword:00000000
"SuspendResume"=hex(7):\
69,6e,74,65,72,6e,65,74,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
The SuspendResume Value is hex for internet. This can be changed to the hex value any Access Point, and imported.
I hope this helps other with the problems I had.
You master!
You are great!!! I've also been like crazy looking for the key that had this cost-increasing trick from the extended rom... Before I had a QTEK 9090 and gprs was always on... I changed this to a V1620 ( Vodafone Spain) and then I noticed this messy problem... I tried everything but nohing happened... I just could fix it, patching and old backup from my old Qtek over the rom of this V1620. The device was working but very bad and frequently freezing... Today I rolled back to the origina configuration from Vodafone and finally I read your post and YESSSSSSSS!!!! WORKED OUT!!!!!!!
BIG BIG THANKS!!!

Aaahhhhhhhhhhh
Can anyone help please?
I am running a PDA2K with i-mate 1.4 roms and radio 1.13.
Sometimes after a telephone call my GPRS fails to connect.
As I have Smartner push email on my phone this is a REAL pain and means I need to reset my device in order to re-establish GPRS and hence email.
THIS HAPPNES 4-8 TIMES A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas for a fix out there please?
Cheers.
Robin
I've got this problem too. But i don't know how to make it work correctly!
Every time i need to reconnect the GPRS.
And i realy doesn't like it!!!
Try this chaps. I have applied the registry tweak and now I keep GPRS on all the time.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
Just change it from 0 to 1.
(GPRS connection name) is, of course, the name of your GPRS connection, and I'm not sure if that GUID is the same on
every machine or not, but I only had about 5 GUIDs under Providers, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

This kinda sounds familiar to when I was last using my PDA2K about 6 months ago.
Okay.
HOW do I make this change please?
I have no idea how to do it?
Cheers.
Robin
Dude you need a PPC registry editor. I use EdReg.
Very similar to a normal windows registry editor.
Fatzzz
I have found something like that there: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Providers\(GPRS Connevtion name)
But there is no key named "Always on"!!...
Well you have got further than I have.
I download PHM Registry Edit.
I opened KKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then Comm and the only 2 options that start with a C under there are:-
Cellular Line and CXPort?????????
Is it something I am doing wrong????

Try ConnMgr!
NOPE.
Nothing.
Now I am getting really worried.
Either I am doing something very wrong or some of my setup is shot to peices.
And yet apart from this disconnect issue the phone is working fine!!!!!!
Robin
Okay.
It DOES help to check one of the check boxes asking for the kind of data I am looking for............. Dohhhhh
Well I found it under Microsoft.
I Have the following:-
Vodafone Internet
Vodafone MMS
Vodafone WAP and
Vodafone WAP CSD
NOTHING that says GPRS?
Any more ideas?
Cheers.

GPRS problem
From another post someone indicated that in the new rom build its a problem with the caller ID program, and that downgrading this will help the issue:
Here is a step by step instruction:
1. Download the older version of caller-id from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/CAB_Files/Caller ID/IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
and transfer it over to your device. Any directory is OK. I used ActiveSync to put it into the My Documents folder.
2. Remove the file IA_CD-Startup.exe from \Windows\Startup on your device.
3. Rename iacontacts.dll to something else (e.g. old-iacontacts.dll). This file is in the \Windows directory of your device but is hidden. However you can rename it using your PC. Open Windows explorer, and navigate to Mobile Device>My PocketPC>Windows.
4. Rename displayCID.dll to something else (e.g. old-displayCID.dll). Access it via your PC the same as for the previous step.
5. Soft reset
6. Run the CAB file on the device - just tap on it.
7. Soft reset.
That should do it.
Hope that helps someone, I have downgraded to the 1.22 rom which does not have this issue, but I am considering trying to upgrade to 1.40 and try this as a workaround to the gprs not able to reconnect issue, except after a soft reset or flight mode on/off cycle...
Many thanks.
I am off on holiday tomorrow so don't want to do anything that I cannot repare very quickly in case I have no phone while I am away.
I will give this a try on my return.
If anyone else tries this and is succesful please let us know.
Cheers.

GPRS Problems and caller Display
I too have been having problems with GPRS connecting once and then not again until a soft-reset or turning the phone off - on top of which caller display was slow and would often hang. (This is on an Alpine) I have succesfully downgraded the caller-id app and the GPRS problems have completely disappeared - on top of which, the app responds quicker, does not hang at all, and responds quicker on an incoming call. All in all, a result!
One note of caution - I had a password on my machine, and after renaming the files and doing a soft reset (as per instructions above) my Alpine would not restart. I had to to a hard reset! if you have a password on yr machine, disable it before you do the downgrade. The GPRS issue was really my only problem with my XDA, and now I'm a happy bunny.
Im just had to install this. Will see if it will be ok. I'll let you know.
I installed yesterday.
Seems to be working a treat.
EXCELLENT.
Many thanks for all the help.

Hi Robin - Glad to hear all is ok.. I notice that you're running the i-mate 1.40 ROM.. Any thoughts of updating to the 1.42..?
Cheers!
dear All
I have just changed my dopod 900 to qtek rom. I can not connect to CSL or peoples network (it says no servie). CAn anyone help me please? I am exhausted with reading so many threads already (3 days)
thanks
HI,I just try to add some programmes.
and suffer the same problem as you
what I am going to do is ,take out the battery
And leave it there 24hrs, and switch on again.
It will load the original Rom, and everything will be fine
Exec
I can not solve that problem. Recently, I have found a new Chinese Traditional Rom (latest). I have flashed that back to chinese. I have found that much better than Qtek. Speed is faster and even more stable.
I had the same problem I changed from Imate JJ to Qtek and radio 1.04.02.
One way around that is to manually select the networks and gprs settings under Connections / Advanced.
lol, just use the wireless manager, disable and enable your phone again, and everything is ok again.
Hi guys, last couple of days I encounter the following problems:
1. P3300 goes to stand-by during the night time and does not wake -up by incoming calls or incoming sms on the morning. Sometimes it also happens if the phone stays untouchable during few hours on a day time. The people on another side who are trying to call or sms me get the reply that I'm not reachable. Just switching on the black light does not help even so that the network coverage indicated as 100%. Only when I start to call someone or try to send sms, the storm of the delayed SMSes suddenly comes to my screen and then the people can reach me back by phone.
2. The pop-up message comes to the screen few times per day:
"Pocket PC networking: Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings."
Well this message starts to come very recently and I did not change any network settings before.
I do not know if these two problems comes together, but they are start to rear the heads more or less at the same time.
From the long-time installed programs I have :
TomTom
Fizz Traveller
Resco Keyboard PRO
Opera
Skype
CorePlayer
Vimio LiveTV
The recently installed programs (let's say last two weeks time frame):
Softick Card Export II
BatteryStatus (overclocked with CPU Scaler : min 143- max 260 boost)
So, guys, your suggestions what it could be are very appreciated.
If interested I have Test WWE HTC ROM 1.12.405.1_026790
During an Activesync connection in which I was transferring some files from the PC to the P3300, the power suddenly went down.
I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but after that I started to get that same message you refer to in problem 2 and I was unable to access the internet while connected via USB to the PC.
Anyway, I googled around and found this:
Solution #1 - via the GUI
In Settings | Connections go to Configure Network adapters.
Set the 'Remote-NDIS Host' settings to use a specific IP address of 169.254.2.1, subnet 255.255.0.0, and a default gateway of 169.254.2.2
Solution #2 - via Editing the Registry
Fire up your registry editor then head to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp]
Set AutoCfg to 1
Set EnableDHCP to 0
Soft reset the device to activate the change
I've tried solution 1 and it works (so far, at least).
Regards,
cfvilela,
I appreciate very much that you redirected me to that blog.
Fixed the issue with Network message with the help of option 2.
Well, we will see where it leads me.
Anyone has the idea about my first issue?
Last evening I changed the reg values as described in order to eliminate this annoying message.
Well, this morning the Network message was popping-up again.
So , the solution number 2 does not work for me.
cfvilela,
to use the solution number 1, where did you find "Configure Network adapters" in Settings/Connections menu ?
Actually it was the reason why I choosed yesterday the second way, could you advice?
- Click the 'Start' icon on the today screen top bar, then select 'Settings' and inside it, choose the 'Connections' tab.
- Then, choose the 'Wi-Fi' icon and inside it, the 'Network Adapters' tab.
- Once there, choose the 'Remote-NDIS Host' and it will open another window.
- On that new window choose 'Use specific IP adress' and use the following settings:
*IP Adress: 169.254.2.1
*Subnet mask:255.255.0.0
*Default gateway: 169.254.2.2
*Don't change anything in the 'Name Servers' tab.
-Click OK and hopefully it should work.
Good luck.
It still works on my P3300. I use two different PCs, one at home and another at my working place to synchonize and it works with both of them.
regards,
cfvilela,
obrigado
I discovered Networks adapters in Wi-Fi, but since it was not mentioned in original blog, I was thinking that I overlooked something.
Great. Thanks again.
Same here
I have the same problems here.
The network error doesnot bother me much but not receiving calls is anoying.
After all, it is one of its main functions!
I tried the following with No succes:
1. T-mobile gave me a new sim-card. didn´t help.
2. Technical service of T-mobile did some kind of network reset thing. (He didnot want to explain any further.... I suspect he just rebooted something and hoped it would help) Didnot work.
3. Hard reset of device Didn´t work.
So, If anyone has a solution, you´ll help at least two people!
(are there more with the same problem?)
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
Still NoGo
I still have no solution.
Anyone else have the same problem? or is it just the two of us?
T-Mobile is verry unhelpfull. They prommise to return my calls but then only send an sms that I should call back, or that they are workin on it or that they couldn´t reach me (duh)....
They want me to turn in the device but I don´t want to miss it for the two weeks it will take them and only get it back with the memo "works fine". So I realy want to speak to a technician so I can explain him what the problem is.
The customer services ladys are verry polite and nice, but they really don´t know anything about technical issues.
So I am still stuck here.

Hi,
i have a o2 orbit with the original german o2 wm6 firmware. Now i have the following problem:
After 1..5 day(s) the telephone function don't work. At this point nobody can call me and i can't call out. Also GPRS don't work. The problem is that the green LED is still blinking and the start display looks normal too.
I can turn off the telephone function. But it is not possible to restart the telephone function again.
After a soft-reset the telephone function works normal for the next time periode.
Does anybody has the same problem or a bugfix?
I've got the same problem since today...
Yesterday, may be it starts, because i was not able to connect Internet by GPRS. First, the problem was happened, when I tried to connect O2 Gprs APN internet, what is preconfigured or APN (Zugriffspunktname) surfo2, thats preferred to my datapack, only in roamingnet (TD1), then even in O2's own net.
then the Phone did not work.
I've got XDA Orbit with WM6.
I called O2's Data support for that problem, they said, I should try to do an Hardreset, after save up all my configuration and keep on watching, if it happens again.
For Hardreset, look at your Manual.
...I'll tell some more about, if it works or not in a few days, when I'm shure it will.
If not, I'll call O2 again (Must) and write theyre answer here.
After Hardreset, I've got no Problems until now!
May be, it was a Problem by trying Windows Live Messenger, because he is connected to the Internet whole time. Are GPRS and Calls at the same time possible? I think, normally it should!? but not shure..
The second thing, I've tried, was the Touch flo alpha...
it did not work on my device, so i made uninstall. After that, theese Problems did come.
Hey guys,
I recently upgraded my T-Mobile UK MDA Compact III to WM6.
I now have an intermittent problem with the GPRS/Internet. Basically, if fails to connect.
From what I've read, I think I need to delete my current connection settings, and then run the CAB from the WM5 Rom.
Has anyone on T-Mobile UK, done this with success? If so, can you point me in the direction of the CAB file you used?
Cheers,
Tim
I just set mine up manually.
Go to T-Mobile Website, click on phone support
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/phone-support/
enter your phone number and follow instructions for setting up MMS and you get a .pdf with instructions to set up both GPRS and MMS.
Delete any current settings and follow the above instructions.
I too am getting these issues. I have recently upgraded to the WWE dopod WM 6 rom (official HTC release) 3.7.707.1. I started to notice that if my phone was out of reception for any amount of time GPRS would fail to reconnect until a soft reset was performed. I have added the radio 02.94.90 to try and resolve this but no joy. I have added the GPRS settings exactly as per the TMob site again no joy. GPRS Auth is set to PAP which I think is correct.
One point to note is that I have not installed any items from the Dopod ext rom.
Once I have soft reset the connection will be fine until I lose reception again.
Hi,
Same issue here with all WM6 ROMs I've tried so far (to at least some extend). Most noticable is irritating behavior in Google Maps with WM6. In WM5 when the connection is unavailable the GPS tracking just continues till data comes in again. In WM6 the result is an error message. It's one of the reasons that makes me consider going back to WM5 for quite a while now. New features are nice but if old ones aren't at least as solid as before it makes no sense when you need them.
Recently I bumped into the every same issue you describe (requiring a soft reset) with B&B 3.7.. Which is a step worse in terms of stability then what I experienced before. At the same time there have been periods that I don't bumb into the issue. So I'm not sure what the cause is. My guess is that it's triggered when you've been in a bad reception area for some time.. But I don't have any hard facts to confirm the exact trigger of the problem.

I thought i'd try hard resetting my phone today to see if it would help but still no joy. the problem appears to affect voice as well as data and only occurs after at least 15 - 20 mins out of reception.
any ideas folks? I would go back to wm5 but the tmobile rom isn't available.
Hi All,
I have thesame problem previously with my Wizard. Found out that one my today plug-in is the culprit. The plug-in is "Battery Status Today ......" the one that shows the , Operator's name, speed, temp, V, A etc of your PPC on the today screen.
I dunno whether this is true and working for anyobe but in my case, my GPRS back to normal after after disable the plug-in. You can try the same too.
Other way, is to disable all non-standard today plug-in, test your Egde/GPRS with connect and disconnect(pressing the red button for more than 3seconds).
Activate one plug-in at a time and do the same test. Hopefully, you can indentify the problem and solve it.
regards,
morisa
Downloading the O2 ROM to see if that helps.. I have a feeling it might resolve this issue (fingers crossed!). I will post back here if it does.
Cheers
Alex
Once off the tube this morning my phone connected straight up and downloaded my emails. I hope I'm not speaking too soon but I think the O2 ROM has resolved the issue which would suggest it is a bug in the Dopod SEA ROM.
I will probably get the radio upgraded to 02.94.90 at some today and test that too.
Cheers
Alex
02.95.90 is now available
