If i want to use tomtom or any other kind of sat nav, do i have to buy a seperate gps bluetooth receiver or can i use the blootooth in my xda and an installed/downloaded gps software? If i can use an installed/downloaded software which is recommended?
The blue angel doesn't have built in GPS capabilities, so you'd have to use an external receiver. You can get these for as little as £60 if you hunt around.
In my humble opinion, Tomtom is the best software out there. I recently upgraded to v5 and it's excellent. Try globalpositioningsystems.co.uk for some ok deals.
after you have got it up and running go to http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php

Hi,
Thinking about getting a TYTN and never had GPS navigation before so a bit of a noob. Whats the best kit to get, I would need the software and a GPS reciever so whats best to get.
I have found this - http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php?xProd=142&xSec=8
Or is a bluetooth GPS receiver better? - http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php?xProd=154&xSec=8
If its agains the rules to link to those websites I will delete them.
If you get the TomTom software then get the TomTom receiver as well because it will work right out of the box. Setting up non-TomTom satellite receivers in TomTom is a real pain in the backside.
I had absolutely no problems setting up TomTom with Holux GPSlim236.
Just pair the gpsreceiver with the phone and assing it a com port,
then select the correct port in TomTom. Works like a charm.
TomTom will even enable blutooth by itself.
Holux GPSlim 236
Also using the Holux without any problems. Small device with good battery lifetime and fast fix. Buy a small GPS so you don't have to leave it in your car. Thieves like them now everyone is taking his mobile out and radios tend to be build in by the car manufacturer.
Also take a look at i-Go software instead of TomTom. More maps available for East Europe and many nice features. Very fast on a TyTN! Can be installed from SD card.
Or look out for the SD version of TT5. It's always handy to be able to install a fresh version from the SD card after a PDA crash when there is no PC near. All other versions need Activesync to install, which you probably won't habe able to do on a holiday trip!

Hi, Just recieved an XDA Orbit and i'm wondering which GPS software you think works best on the device. Now i know that most people think that TomTom is the best GPS software but i'm looking for something that works well on the orbit.
I need the GPS software to be able to support postcodes!
So the ones i can think of are:
TomTom 6
Co-poilot
Desinator
Any others? Whats do you think works best.
BTW: I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.
Tom Tom 5
I am using TTN5 and I find it excellent. I have used the TomTom range from the old Routeplanner days and the early versions were flawed, but TTN3 and 5 got their act together and maps were updated. TTN6 did not add any revolutionary functionality and TomTom didn't offer an upgrade price so I have stuck with TTN5 and a subscription to Pocket GPS World to get updated camera and POI downloads.
I use TomTom 6 and in my opinion, its the best out there. Co-Pilot is really good too, got that free with the phone - but just prefer the TTN6.
TT6 works well
Destinator PN also
Destinator 6.1.1 sucks on Orbit/MdaIIIc, losing GPS and freezes
other gps software not tested
I use Route66 on my Orbit. Drove 850 miles each way from Boston to Dayton, OH without a hitch. As a matter of fact, it saved me at one point when I was having car problems. Used it to find the nearest Hotel's in the area.
Hi,
I use both TOM TOM 6 and Memory Map, both of which work very well.
Regards
Last I checked iGuidance was incompatible.
I use TT6 works really well, my only problem is that maps are 95% uptodate, which is fine most of the time, but I find in London it doesn't know if a street is now one way, or its now a bus lane, or you cant turn left on Euston Road and have to go into congestion zone and then forget to pay and have to pay the £50 fine
Hello!
Reading such comments make me feel sad...oh lord!
Navigation programs are meant to support you on the road so you don't have to spread a roadmap across your steering wheel and being distracted from traffic, not to replace your eyes, ears and most of all your brain.
Could'nt resist had to say that.
...bye
I have TT 6.2 {7130} and IGO 2006. Works fine.

I use Destinator 6.1 with Iberia map (when I'm in the mainland, no Madeira maps yet ) and it works OK.
It captures GPS signal almost instantly and it's quite accurate regarding positioning.
Regards,
Have used TTN5 & TTN6 I prefer TTN5 as it is simple and quick to use. It would be perfect if the maps were spot on but close enough to keep me happy.
May have to use TTN6 when new London congestion charge comes in but its the one I would recommend.
I am looking for a good free GPS software to run on a Hermes. I do not have an unlimited data plan so Google Maps is not an option. I have a bluetooth GPS receiver that I would like to take advantage of--G-Sat BT-359.
Thanks
I use garmin mobile xt. works great with my gps receiver. responce time is great, animation is good, etc etc etc. the software is not that expensive. there are also torrents out there that you can download to get this software for free. bittorrent or something will have a torrent of garmin xt for you if you want to go that route. just follow the instructions in the read me file and it will work fine.
i use igo and it is very nice and stable
and gwash is wright about the torrents but if you like to bye a software then just test it first
etc i dont think that there is something free and good both together
Tomtom 7 is the best I've tried.
Igo 8 was too much of a memory hog and tended to freeze the Hermes, Had another one too but it wasn't as feature laden as Tomtom.
Just remember though, the more channels on your receiver the better GPS reception you will get. Had a 16 channel receiver and it sucked, my new receiver is 54 channel, MUCH better....
Garmin XT is my flavour of choice, did have TomTom but it doesn't much of my country
Thanks, I am in the Dominican Republic and trying to figure out what to use. I have Terracrosser which uses Google Maps but not working with GPS right now.
Hi,
Are there any issues with the above. I need a top notch reliable gps, and can't afford anything like tom tom etc. I've got co pilot live on my phone, but the issue is occasionally it just doesn't lock to satellites which I can't afford. Goggles navigation doesn't meet my needs unfortunately. I read there were some issues with the desire and pairing with gps devices over Bluetooth? I can pick up a cheapish gps receiver from eBay but don't wanna waste my money if its not possible.
Thanks
