Hi all
i'm an engineer doing R&D for Leaf Wireless in South Africa. We supply wireless solutions and HTC phones to Africa.
i'm going to Taiwan to meet and recieve training from the HTC engineers from monday the 12th. And since i've received so much help from XDA developers in the past i thought i'd offer.
if there are any customisation questions you have or HTC issues that are proving difficult to solve post them here. i'll ask the guys when i get there and try get some answers.
cheers,
Greg
hmm this thread sounds like it could take off.
i dont think you know what you got yourself into supaspud. i know lots of people are going to have questions and suggestions for htc.
i for one would like to see them implement a wheel mouse not unlike the one in the danger sidekick 3. that would make wm experience 100 times better.
also ask if crossbow will officially be released as an upgrade for the wizard.
when i think of more questions or suggestions ill reply again
?Why don't they make a full size (3.5" or whatever) screen in a cdma with more memory. Hell it doesn't even have to be vga. I use mine as a pda, if I wanted a tiny screen, I'd just get a damn phone.

Save yourself the bother. It would be up to the telco's to decide on releasing an official update and they would then pay HTC to build the rom. Expect that to happen about the same time as the telco's decide to donate all their profits to third world charities.
It's not a telco thing. If you are refering to the companies who re-brand the HTC machines (most of whom are not telcos) the decision will be based mostly on whether HTC will actually supply the ROM and at what cost if any. They would have a fairly good idea about what they are going to do for some machines as they own one such company that retails their machines (Dopod). Find out about possibility of Artemis crossbow ROM if you can
Linux
It would be interesting to get their opinion on Linux on the HTC platform, and whether they would consider contributing to the development of a well rounded Linux based phone environment.
Yes, their opinion on linux would be good to know
Ask if they have any future plans to support it officially.
Ask them what (apart from soldering the chips on and editing the rom file for memory alocation) needs to be done to make 128mb of ram work on UNIVERSAL (it origionally had it, so the motherboard supports it and it can work
Hello Leaf Wireless
Well, well Greg, I thought that Leaf would not come out of the closet.
I have been the source of information till now, but now please take the stage.
A few months back I introduced a few of your staff to the XDA site.
I am now and then fed tit bits of information which I share on the forum. The ROM 1.35 update is a good example.
There are some clever guys here and we can all all learn together.
The problems I raised with Renier was:
1. Storage card getting lost in Media Player
2. Windows 5 is full of unresloved problems, with the BT stack poor.
3. Battery life on 3G is shocking. I have upgraded to 1.27 to see if things improve.
4. I have an Email from Dan Mackie @HTC Eupope stating that an Major ROM upgrade would be released at the end of January 2007, "to resolve all known issues on the TyTN". Nothing has happened yet!
The issue with the storage card was a known issue and I was informed at the end of September that it would be sorted with the next upgrade.
It hasn't happened yet but I have noticed that the TyTN's that you have received do not have this problem.
Please feel free to contact me should you wish.
Enjoy the trip and let me have a copy of the new ROM before you leave.
Regards
A wish list would be for the keyboard have some kind of a lock to prevent it opening when retrieving from the pouch. I find that I often drop call on closing the keyboard.
The magnets in the pouch are also troublesome and cause screen rotation and also dropped calls at times when rotating back.
GPS in the Hermes
What component of software (hardware??) is missing in the Tytn compared to the Trinity to make the GPS work.
Thanks
Francisco
PS. My first post, and I would like to thanks all the excellent XDA-developers community for this great forum.
@SupaSpud: Tell them to produce a Hermes with VGA screen and GPS and 256Mb ROM, RAM....
Thanks.

Several people have already asked this question:
- How can we install 128Mb RAM on Universal?
HTC never replied.
sheesh...
wow... looks like I opened up pandora's box. i'm making a list of all the queries and i'll ask them on monday. keep em coming...
ps: i'll find out bout the rom now.
Hey SSpud - gr8 offer !
1. I''d like you to ask why they dont set the default Bluetooth (a2dp) to Stereo (and the bit rate / max bit rate to 40+) ... and generally fix stereo BT.
2. How do they acvtually work with customers (eg BT in the UK) .... I get the inpression they are extremely slow and unresponsive.
2. Camera - if even cheap sony ericons can have autofocus and macro settings why cant HTC ?
3. Stereo Jacks (3.5 or 2.5mm)
4. Direct access to microSD card
5. When will they update their FAQ's and trouble shooting guides beyond the patronising " check that it is turned on type " answers.
Thanks for this oportunity !!
(I'm especially intersted efor Artemis/ XDA orbit)
Hello 'Spud,
Apart from sorting/mentioning the listed problems here - especially the poor bluetooth stack IMO - please do bump the question regarding their future GPS roadmap for TyTN/Hermes series of phones.
Now that will make a true convergence of technologies.
Kind regards,
Mine is a small and trivial request... could they please please please fix the battery meter on the hermes... the [email protected] +/- 10% drives me nuts... wish we could get the +/- 1% like the other devices.

Tell the guys at HTC to watch the XDA-Developers site to find out what's wrong with their phones and what features are needed to turn them into great devices - remember the IPhone is comming!
Basil
Tell them not to save cents in devices that cost hundred of dollars. For instance they use cheap and weak cpus like samsung (which has only ARMv4T) ot OMAP with it's low clock frequencies. Or they save memory and instead of using 128MB or more RAM! RAM is cheap! I'd like to see smaller touchscreen displays with VGA resolution! Look at the size and resolution of some nokias: E60 or E70. I'd like to see hermes (device with foldable keyboard) with gps, 624MHz intel cpu, 128MB RAM and 2.2 inch touchscreen in the near future!
YES! Tell them about this forum! Tell them not to do stupid things in locking their devices - this simply reduces their markets!
And tell them that maybe it is about time to see their x86 UMPC! Look at the sony vaio UX180P or UX280P!

I'm not exactly sure of what you mean about the wheel mouse. You mean like the one the Artemis has?
As for crossbow going onto the Wizard... i don't think that'll happen. But i'll double check.

I can't say too much, but if the rumour I heard is true, you might get something like that in the second half of this year. *wink-wink, nudge-nudge*
I installed Dutty's ROM this weekend and it works fantastic. I was just wondering if any of you programming genius's (geniui?) had a chance to compare Dutty's ROM to HTC's 1.93 ROM.
I was just curious as to what differences are between the two. Typically, OEM manufacturer's end up making changes to match what the tweakers do first....
Curious....

Not really. You might find manufacturers keeping quite conservative settings. There's a reason behind everything (and that's called marketting).
For example: FAT / filter cache, which means you access your RAM more often AND keeping the gates alive at all times, at the cost of battery.
Tweaking isn't always what it seems, then again, sometimes you'd be better off not knowing all that stuff.

At almost 46 years of age, it took me a LONG time to realize that manufacturers of anything usually take the conservative road soley because they have to appeal to a wide range of people and for the product to last.
It doesn't matter if it's cars, computers, RC cars or phones... Any manufacturer can make it faster, bigger or quicker... however, at what cost.
In terms of longevity and durabilty (whether it be how long an engine lasts or how long the battery in your phone lasts) it's much easier and much safer to keep a happy medium.
Then the rest of us depend on tweakers like you guys to tweak it.
Thanks,
Mark
Very interesting thread may I say.
I agree, tweaking is forcing the engine. Thus, less efficiency.
And we even have tweakers looking at the possibility of overclocking the device.
Cheers!
I disagree on the less efficiency part. It was the wonderful work of the people here that made our Diamond performed as it should be and with much better battery life.
The engineers at HTC do not have the passion that our cooks have. For them it is a job, just get sufficient done.
For our wonderful cooks, it is passion to make The Perfect ROM.
We are the ones that get to enjoy the fruit.

But there is a give and take... for example, HTC could make it blazing fast. But the give part is they may have to remove some cool programs. TF3D for example.... or perhaps it has a heating problem, blah, blah, blah....
I don't think for a second that HTC can't do it, I imagine there is a reason why....
I mean, think about it.... If HTC could make a few tweaks and make the phone PERFECT with the PERFECT ROM, then EVERYONE would buy it.... more sales, right?
Surely their engineers are capable of doing so, but there's gotta to be a reason why they don't want to make their product better.
Actually, to answer my own question, it's not that they don't want to make it better.... they already think it's great. I think after the public getting their hands on it, they find all the flaws and thus new ROMs to cure it.
Yeah, that's it....

Dudes
i am to buy this baby next week.
But I am still in kinda you know bouy or not buy mood.
i check every day if there is something new better or called htc touch hd killer and stuff like that...
It seems ther is no such a thing=Blacstone FTW!
But you now, what are the chances that I will buy it next week and next month there will be some real Blackstone killer?
is it possible?
Should I buy or should I wait?
Please advise guys.
PS: or should I wait until WMC?
@mods: sorry for making another thread about this but spending 597euro for something...you know I just wanna be 100% sure. And I know that there are very helpful people around here who may know some good infos about upcoming stuff etc...thanks for understanding
HI
I'm quite new here but I'm computer and gadget super fanatic!!
and I can tell you that you can think just like that for almost every electronic device now, because almost every month will be released new and better devices and not only phones, but computers, CPU's, video cards, TV's, etc.
then in my opinion you must just check what is the better device at the moment for your needs, in my case I read A LOT!! before buy my HD, and I'm really happy with it, I use it for work and definitely fulfill everything I need
Its coming to me now..........................................................
Ok my ESP tells me you need a pet monkey.
Suck it up!!!
The fact is, that if you wait long enough there will be something superior to the Touch HD. That could be 6 mos or 2 years. The facts are that HTC makes some great stuff and the Touch HD is the killer device available TODAY and for at least the short term. Heck its only $700...money grows on trees. Also having access to people on this forum also make the experience even better as you can tweak and find things that make the phone yours. You can't get that with iPhone or Blackberry.
There will always be better, so you can wait for ever... I decided to stop waiting, and I'm happy with it
thanks for your opininions people I will keep you updated
As we all consider the Touch Pro2 or Diamond2 or other, what has been the best phnoe of all so far?
I've had an XDA, XDAII, Universal, Atrhena and Touch Cruise. I resurrected the Universal last week and I'd have to say that the build quality, functions and design re-impressed me.
So this gets my vote.
We can all say "yeah, if it had [insert fsvourite function] xxx would be the perfect phone, but in context which one stands out?

Universal from 2005 still beating some of the newest models, yeah I knoe it´s a bit big but still the best, at least for me!

I too would have to agree, the Uni is by far the most "Functional" PDA yet to be be created for "Business" usage.
Yes it is slightly bulky but it is also 4 years old, and to still be holding it's own with it's dedicated fans is incredible considering how fast this market moves.
The only problem for the poll is that not that many people bought the Uni in the first place. It was very pricey on release and most people didn't desire to own one based purely on it's size.
I never regret my purchase, and must say it hs been the most reliable enjoyable and functional (for my usage) PDA I hvae ever owned and I've had quite a few..........
Cheers,
Beasty
I never owned a universal, but always wanted one. They are very good devices. Now, I need 3g, so no way I would buy a universal now.

That´s an extra point to Uni!
As you mentioned, when Uni was launched only a few carzy (Incliding me) went fast and payed a lot of $ to have it, but when time passed some other people started to think on Uni and buy it.
I can think on this as a strange behaivour... The more time passes the more people realize how good it is!
I have saw a lot of new users buying Uni nowdays.
Poll is doing great! Imagine Universal competing with 2008 great devices like Blackstone or Xperia for mention some and Uni still on the first 3 places!!
Universal: The best micro laptop/pda buissness oriented device made to this date!
Cheers to all,
The HD Blackstone has been the best for me so far...only wish it had a bigger CPU!
but wait I already voted, but when the new ones come on will i be able to vote again?

Thanks I can't wait till all the 2009 phones are out though, especially the touch pro 2, it might have the old processor and ram, but it seems almost like HTC improved everything else, 2 speakers and mics for better call quality, bigger touch screen ext.
Yeah me too!
Let´s see what other models HTC bring us on this year...snapdragon perhaps?...
Menatime let´s all vote on the poll already is created!
No need to have a second thread with same topic and with no poll!
There may already be several threads in other sections discussing this anticipated update, but I thought why not. Happy New Years Ladies and Gentlemen.
Microsoft has stuck to their slogan "Early 2011".
The little blue birdy however flew a little closer to sources and overheard "January".
As of now, the update has not yet been released obviously so this gives us all the opportunity to discuss some of our individual expectations from this upcoming update. You may have heard, there may be several updates, not only one.
Let's try not to get too loony but in all seriousness, when I first purchased my HTC MOZART with WP7 I did so without much research and maybe too much faith in Microsoft.
I thought MAC - PC, IPhone - WP7
I can tell you all now, I was severely traumatized by my experience when I first discovered I couldn't customise my ring-tone. With tears still pouring down my face, and Chevron still non existent, I went to Copy and Paste something. It was then that I learnt that the World had already ended.
Now like I said, we can't expect too much but I just want to state what I personally believe and after some scrutiny of my opinion wisely believe I'm in the position to state several of the most 'CRUCIAL' changes that need to take place ASAP on WP7. The severity of leaving these features out has already taken on another dimension. Some features were intentionally left out for future profiteering and others simply because the potential of such features could be exploited in unexpected ways.
Taking this path however has led some of Microsoft's most loyal customers questioning the developmental plans and reasoning's behind a number of decisions.
You have to think, these phones aren't toys. These phones (due to the mandatory specifications Microsoft has set) pack quite a powerful punch in terms of processing capabilities. The true capabilities of these technologies seriously can be quite dazzling. For one reason or another, unfortunately such open technology will probably never fall into the hands of the masses.
However, they seem to have gone a bit too far with the intentional tampering of functionality and the unprecedented level of scrutiny has left Microsoft scrambling to find the excuses, and forced them to re-think their relationship with their customers.
Julian Assange is here questioning which governments are responsible for all these dead civilians and we need to seriously point exactly at the people in charge (Governments - Developers all the same) and demand why, with the level of power they hold, the technology, funds and potential they have access too, are there basic features missing on these GOD DAM PHONES!?
One might state, "If you don't like it, then go somewhere else!"
Well "NO!" is what I would say. Why am I being forced to use outdated technology just to enable me to change my ring-tone! It seems the more we human beings accomplish technologically, the less we are able to utilize it with some common sense. One step forward, two steps back!
It is these corporations that hold the responsibility and have the obligation to set a standard with technological advancements. They are the leading manufacturers, researchers and developers enabling the wonderful standard of life we all possess today. BUT, you have to remember, the people at the front end of these achievements need to be held accountable when a phone shows up on the market that doesn't allow one to change their ring-tone! We as a group of human beings are able to discuss and elaborate. If we are standing here in 2011 with a phone that doesn't allow one to change their ring-tone, we need to stop and start wondering what the hell is going on.
"Yes, I just payed top dollar for one of the most advanced phones out there! So advanced you don't need to change your ring-tone, you just select one out of a list! HOW INGENIUS! "
"Yes, I just payed two million pounds for a luxurious house! It's so freakin high class and luxurious it doesn't even have any DOORS OR WINDOWS!"
See the similarity?
Please Microsoft, give me my Ring-tone back. Give me the Flash Player I deserve. Give me my Landscape Address Bar in MIE. Give me my Multitasking. Give me my Copy/Cut & Paste. Give me my Media player that allows me to Fast Forward/Rewind with my own fingers. YOUTUBE BY HTC DID! Give my USB storage functionality! After all, there is a memory card in there! Give me a voice on my Maps to let me know when I have to turn. Do something about this 'SEARCH' button please. It keeps interrupting me on practically everything I try to do on the phone. At least create a locking mechanism or even give me the option to use it for something more USEFUL! BING IT OFF. Get it?
Anybody else with any realistic functions they believe is a basic requirement? If so please name them.
When the Update is finally released, we can further elaborate on the improvements. I'm sure there will be improvements. WP7 can do better!
Best Regards, Dontworry
Man if only Bluetooth file transfers could be added in the update..
I have a samsung i780 for 2 years already
I lost my mind and bought one HTC HD7 without researching
Please microsoft, do not make me regret more than I already am
it's sad that I feel better with my old i780 with a fake copy of WM6.5
listen to this man, makes us happy.
Guys you must not compare it with the win 6.x phones. Please jsut think about the potential and look at what you do with this phone instead of what it can't.
I jumped from my beloved pimped qtek 9000 to HD7 and i must say.....even if the qtek is so yesterday .... but the WM 6,5 with working bluetooth-Garmin XT and other cool features was untill today way better than WM7.
I Understand that the 7 software is still in developement, but it is not yet worth the money, the time that i invested just to find out why the bluetooth wouldnt work and so on and so on.
I honestly believed that it would be a realy woooooow phone but it is not. So far it is an overpriced not so usefull dissapoitement.

Well 4 starters........it would be very usefull if it "could" establish a bluetooth connection with my qtek or for that mater with my hp laptop. That would be wooooooow. On the other hand it cant do much more than a HD2 with a pimped WM 6,5.
Search key really annoy my Mozart
Double click or confirm or somethings for HOME (Start) key in running applications
I want Proximity sensor to disable all key when cover with somethings else
(in running applications)
sorry for my poor ENGLISH
guys u are wasting time and space on XDA by creating those use less threads.... there are so many out there...
i feel so sorry for those ppl who buy things with out knowing what they are getting and then B#%@& about it like a girl... no one put a gun to your head to buy a WP7, u did it with the free will...
and come on i gave up on the Samsung i780 in 6 months as it was a mistake i made buying, which i corrected by getting a HTC Touch Pro. the screen was crap as the touch penal never work... the screen size did not allow me to run so many apps, it was so slow... so if u have used i780 for 2 years u should be glad that u bought a WP7 device as its smooth and fast..
CES is around the corner and i think the update will be launched there....

I dont want to compare anything and it wouldnt be fair, but on the qtek the bluetooth worked and with WIMO 6,5 by Tomal it was fast.
Oh and i dont need a phone for sending some pics to a sky drive to show them to other people. A working bluetooth would be fine.
Oh and changing ringtones too.
Get the point?
Adobe reader also.....more for a job thing than sending photos. The qtek made a hell of a job there regarding my buisiness.
So the post with the lux house....is not so far fetched after all :-D:-D:-D

Yeah, you are right. And it seems that soon many people will do so as downgrading mobile computer (which was any WM6.x device) to just fancy phone is not what the people doing real job with the phone are expecting. I'm just waiting for the WP7 update and if it does not contain the mandatory tethering ... bye-bye WP7. Too expensive toy ... that does nothing

Mine does everything I need, after coming from iPhone 4 and Desire HD there isn't anything in particular that I miss. Yes, it doesn't have all the same features but that's the same with any platform you choose.
