I'm STILL experiencing annoying problems with the FTP - namely that it doesn't support the commonest method of changing directories, CDUP. This is just stupid, there's no reason why CDUP can't be enabled (at the moment I have to manually specify folders to go back to if I want to navigate back to the root from being in a particular subfolder!)
Also, for some reason I tried to connect to the FTP with my Hermes over 3G in Opera Mobile, specifying the username and the password inside the actual URL (xda:[email protected]) and Opera STILL asked me for a username and password to log onto the server. And then, when I typed it in, it didn't like it, and kept on asking me again and again and again... The same Error 550 Permission Denied.
The forum's been (almost) sorted; please someone go take a look at the FTP and see if these problems can be sorted! I love the irony of not being able to access the FTP from an actual HTC device 8)

What happens if you only enter the usernamen/password when Opera asks for it?
CDUP enabled... Awesome.
Re the Opera problem: same result. 550 error every time. Very curious, gotta be the way which it initiates the FTP transaction... Tried to packet sniff in promiscuous mode but I don't have wifi on my PC (getting a laptop soon but don't have it yet, so can't wifi packet sniff) and for some reason I couldn't pick up any packets coming from my PDA on the wifi network even though I'm connected via cat5 (so in theory I should see the traffic in wireshark)... I feel too ill to go messing about trying to make it work though, just thought I'd let you know it still doesn't work. Very odd.
Kudos for the CDUP enablement though.
Okay, maybe I am just stupid or something, but a LOT of the links that point to the FTA are broken. So I did a little reading and now connect with an FTP application. After doing some browsing around, most of the files are gone. What's up? Am I missing something? All I want to do is downgrade the phone (Cingular 8125).
Edit.... Okay now I read somewhere else that the roms have all been removed per a request from MS. Is this the issue and I am not really being that stupid?
a lot of files missing at Blueangle

Your XDAtools refers to the wallaby does it work with the XDA2? I haven't been able to use the explore feature on the activesync :? when I click on it there is nothing there and I cannot copy and paste anything to it. I keep getting an error message fatal communications error ?? everything else seems to work with the sync.
Am I correct to asume the fascillity to add and remove files to my XDA does exist like it does to a sd card reader?
I can't figure out how to upload a word file? Talk about a newbe eh!!
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanx
Link is working now
You should be able to explore your phone when linked to activesync, have you tried going to "my computer" and clicking on the pda from there?
When I click on the device in from my computer it opens up a window with nothing in it.
I cannot copy and paste any thing to it, if I try I get the same message:
Critical communications error system failed to start try reseting your device..
or something close to that text...
I've even installed the latest active sync 3.8 still does the same thing??
I figured it out! us newbes get it eventually! On active sync the connections setting, I didn't have the network connections box ticked, now it's ticked and I can explore the device. Just thought I should post this incase anyone else had the same problem.

Hi. I am a new O2 owner but a long time WinDOS tweaker. Thanks for all your work btw: I now have the latest ROMs that my country's providers (Starhub/M1/Singtel) are too lazy to give (we're still at 1.03 asia. Go fig.), and more storage space to boot.
I use LeechFTP to grab the stuff I need off your site, because for some reason my browser will not let me authenticate with the listed acct/pass when attempting to download files (The connection either craps out with a flat 550 forbidden for IE or goes verrrrry sloooow on Firefox). LeechFTP works well, except that I cannot back traverse; the CDUP command gives me a 550 forbidden. If I wanted to go back to the previous listing I had to disconnect and reconnect at the root.
Is there a specific reason why I can't CDUP?
I do not know leechftp but I use flashfxp and to overcome this cdup problem I just edit the path on top and hit enter.
I think this is a problem of the ftp server.
Hi,
I want to access a samba share in my home network. I have a lan-storage device (dlink dns323, static ip 192.168.XX.XX) connected to a wlan-router.
When I activate my wlan on the xda orbit, I'm able to open web-pages and download gps-data for quick gps. Xda orbit is getting its ip via dhcp. As dns I defined the wlan-router.
So how can I access the share "folder1" at the dns323?
I tried this in totalcommander:
\\[email protected]\folder1
--> Error 53 while connection!
Similar in File Explorer:
\\[email protected]\folder1
--> Network ressource was not found or you do not have access rights.
From a desktop pc or laptop inside my home network I can connect to the share as user1. Without the [email protected] statement --> same result.
Can anyone help me?
Kind regards, hqqh
Hi,
now I installed z2 PocketLan. When I scan my network, my NAS (DNS323), wlan router and my linux server were found. But when I try to connect using group name user name and password the error message: "Network path not found." is printed. This happen when I try to connect to the NAS and the linux server (smb server is running).
I'm happy about any help.
Kind regards,
hqqh
fwiw I could only get network sharing to work when i addressed it via name ie.
\\device\sharename rather than \\ipaddress\sharename.
Hi,
thank you for your hint. I tried to connect vi Internet Explorer by device name:
"\\DLINK-EE2EBC\folder1"
But when I press ENTER, the address is substituted by "file://\\DLINK-EE2EBC\folder1" and the error "Network path not found" appears.
How can I configure my device, so that it will access the LAN and not local files?
Kind regards,
hqqh
Do you have the (Start -> Settings -> Connections ->) Network Plugin installed and configured?
I've exactly the same problem, i have an Artemis P3300 and already tried everything. Also configuring the network plugin. But the plugin won't connect to my lanbox...
When i refresh the Networkneigbourhood, my lanbos can be found, but i can't tap on it (i can by my other computers in the neigbourhood). Maybe it is a problem with the firmware of my lanbox? But under WM5 everything was accesable.

when i enter a \\network\share link in IE, it gets redirected to file explorer and a blank IE window says open with file://\\device\share in the address bar. Have you tried file explorer or total commander?

Hi,
@chiel80: You mean it is an WM6 problem? Do you know whether it is possible to update the operating system without affecting the installed software?
@mc1: Yes it tried totalcommander and file explorer. The network plugin shows the same behavior like chiel80's device. All network devices were found, but no shared folder is available. Same in the tool called pocketlan.
I dont know what I can do. Is there anyone how can access shared folders via network?

Hello,
I have the same Problem. I have tryed with PocketLAN, Resco-File-Explorer, HTC Network Plugin and Total Comander and it cames the same Problem. With Windows-Sharefolder its worked very fine. But I have Problems with my NAS-Server (Buffalo Linkstation) and my DreamBox, boths are Linux-Devices. Before I flashed my HTC Kaiser, its worked with my NAS. But after I flashed my Kaiser then the Problems has beginn. I think its a Windows Mobil 6-Problem. What can I do?
WM6 Firewall?
Hi,
I still have the problem, that I can't connect to samba shares via WLAN. I as said above, I can send pings to my linux server and I can send pings from the server to the xda orbit.
I noticed that if I connect to the samba share from e.g. another linux or windows pc, a log file is created under /var/log/samba on the server. But when I try to connect with the xda orbit, no log file will be created.
So is it possible that WM6 has a firewall, which blocks the samba ports (137-139 I think)?
I have done a port scan of the xda orbit an got the following result:
-----------------------------------------------------
Starting Nmap 4.03 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at 2007-12-29 10:45 CET

I know, if the communication was started from the xda orbit, the samba ports dont have to be open, but if the firewall has a very restrictive setup, the commuication will not be start? Just an idea.
So my question: Is there a firewall in Windows Mobile 6? If yes, how can I configure it?
Kind regards,
hqqh
Any progresses here? Struggling with the same problem here.
Hi johnpatcher,
No, there is no progress on this topic at my side ((.
Do you have this connection problem when you try to connect to a share on a linux or a windows system?
Maybe there are differences in the implementation of the samba protocol between linux and windows.
Kind regards,
hqqh
I'm trying to connect to a samba (linux) share.
It doesnt work neither with "security = user" nor with "security = share". I just get a sound, but it doesn't connect. No entries in the server log files can be found .
Hi,
I setup a connection to a winXp computer where a folder was declared as shared folder and I was able to connect to it!!!
So what is the problem? Do I have the wrong settings of the samba-server?
The ip address of my XDA Orbit is added to the list of devices which have access to the share.
Has someone established a connection between a WM6 device and a linux system?
Kind regards,
hqqh
Hi
I have the same problem on my HTC touch cruise with WM6
Using TotalCommander LAN-plugin, I get connection to all the shared folders
in the LAN, but when I want to connect to a LAN-storage, located on a USB-server (running smb-protocol) I get the storages name, but no folders or files on it.
With my elder HP Ipaq 6910 running WM5 all works perfect.
I think there must be a setting (in WM6 or HTC) that prevents WM6 from connecting to a SMB-server?
Is there anybody who can connect with WM6 to a LAN-(smb)-storage?
Thanks
Stefan
I have the same issue. My ATT-Tilt-WM6 with HTC network plugin shows all available pcs, but will only connect to actual windows machines. I've got shared Linux samba drives, and shared ibook hosted samba drives, which show up in network plugin, but it can't connect to. All pcs/ibooks/linux boxes in network can connect to each other just fine. And my other phone, a sprint 6700 with WM5, shares the ibook and linux drives just fine, I'm only having the problem with WM6.
Network access to NAS using Lobster Tunes
If you just want access to audio files? I have managed to get access to my audio files on my NAS device (Synology DS107) using Lobster Tunes.

There *is* a fix for browsing Linux (samba)-based shares and it involves editing a line in smb.conf on the Linux server.
BUT
I found the fix in a very obscure forum on the Internet a long time ago AND I no longer have the link!! I did fix this problem on my old Linux server but it's not currently fired up so I will have to dig it out of storage and see what I did.
This is bugging me now as I need to 'fix' my new server!
Hi!
I was struggling this issue with Kaiser. And solution came with new ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395555
Unfortunately, I can't figure out why and what is difference, but if I install any other ROM (e.g. Dutty's), I can't access samba shares. If I install the one above, I can access using TC, Resco, File Explorer and maybe others.
Hope this helps someone.
PS: I have Synology DS-207+ on the network.
OK. The correct answer is here:
Change HKLM\Comm\SecurityProviders\NTLM\LmCompatibilityLe vel to 1 from 3, not to 2 (ref: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa922895.aspx and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa925018.aspx) as "You can also set the LmCompatibilityLevelServer value to 2 or to 3. Both of these specify that the server will only use NTLM v2. Authentication will fail if the client is not capable of NTLM v2 protocol. For more information, see Authentication Services Registry Settings".
And check to make sure HKLM\Comm\Redir\SmbSignatureMode is set to 0 (not recommended 'cos it may cause problems with windows servers), 1 or 2, but not 3 (ref: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa921092.aspx).
And you can try to set HKLM\Comm\Redir\AllowedAuthMethods to 3 to see if it makes any difference. To me, 2 works fine.
No need to modify samba configurations if you are running a recent version of samba (3.0.28 right now). Anyway, you can always try to add "use spnego = no" (maybe "client use spnego = no" or "spnego = no" as stated and/or quoted in other posts/web pages, I'm not sure of it.) to see if it makes any difference in your situation/samba version.
Anybody able to tell me how to use the SMB module with Astro? I cannot find anywhere in the application to connect to my computer. I've looked through the documentation too, with no luck. I've got both Astro and the SMB module installed.
I've emailed the developers, but no response yet.

means your phone can't connect to the computer, have you verified that it works on a pc?
-edit- make sure your wifi is turned on
WiFi is on, and I can ping the EVO from the PC.
I've confirmed that the shared folder can be seen from another PC.
I am wondering if invalid payload size is a clue?
Are there any Windows 7 issues I should be aware of?
It could be a permissions issue. In the screenshots I provided, I'm using an admin share. What do the permissions look like on your shared folder?

I have a smb server running on my Ubuntu 10.04 box. I got it up and running after finding the advanced settings. On my captivate, when in the smb setup dialog pressing the phones menu button brings up an advanced settings tab. You get two options, key and value. I set key to "Workgroup", and value to my workgroup. Back in the previous settings dialog i have only filled in Label, Server (used IP address), User Name, and Password. Works like a charm now. Hope this helps
I wanted to connect to my SMB shares on my Mac running Snow Leopard OS X, and while other PCs could see the windows shares just fine, on my Android phone with the Astro SMB module I kept getting Invalid payload size: 254. To solve the problem, while in the connection profile editor, I pushed Menu and chose Advanced. Then I created a new property and key:
jcifs.smb.client.useExtendedSecurity = false
Once I added this, I was able to connect to all of my Mac samba shares just fine!

Thanks bro, that fixed my prob i was having, i now have another problem, When trying to view files on the network say example a photo i get the following "file type jpg not found" the same goes for any other file i get "file type ***** not found" any idea how to fix that?
I have a STRATO HiDrive (which basically is an online harddisk that supports several protocols such as SMB, SFTP, WebDAV etc). I tried connecting to the drive (cifs.hidrive.strato.com) using my username and password, but to no avail:
UnknownHostException: cifs.hidrive.strato.com
It works fine using my computer, though. I also tried switching off extended security as you described earlier, but that didn't work either.
Another program, FileExpert, connects just fine but is really slow and hangs while reading the share's folders.
So I tried SFTP, which connects but then returns a "StringOutOfBoundsException". Dunno if they're related, I'm basically trying to solve the SMB problem.
Any clues?
I not find Astro smb module on market.
Anybody have the apk?
Thansk.
