Do I need the apps it installs after hard reset, or are they like carrier ext roms, and generally slow down the device and spam it with crap?
If they are not all useful, can anyone point me to unhiding the ext rom and which apps are worth installing/essentials?
Cheers,
Joe
For accessing to them people here pointed me the soft Called Total Commander, and type \Extended_Rom\ and you will be able to copy them to another forlder.
As far as I know, and please correct me if I am wrong, there is no way yet to unhide and unlock the rom, I which I could have this tool, but nothing yet
Many thanks
I got into my extrom a treat with that tip, nice one m8.
I will now be zipping up my rom and posting, unless someone already did it.

I just got my SX56 and was reading the forums on info about unlocking, here is my question...... is there anything that will just unlock the phone without all the other software installed at the same time? I would just like to leave all the original apps in place and only unlock it.....is it possible? and what steps should I take to do this. (yes I do realize that I'm a moron and know nothining about these phones)
Thanks in advance........
Fallsilent
Firstly try downloading xdaunlock copy this to your xda, go to your file explorer on xda, find the xdaunlock and double tap. If it unlocks the phone then great, if not you can use serial cable and xda manipulator , manipulator runs from the desktop and also may unlock your phone. If neither work you will need developers special edition rom , DO A FULL BACKUP OF ALL DATA AND PROGRAMS. I would suggest that before you use the special edition rom that you get an sd card, 64 megabytes is good, enter bootloader, choose ce to sd, this will backup your existing rom to the sd card in a bootable format so you can just insert the sd card, hold power while pushing reset, push action key, the rom will then copy back to the xda. HAVE A GOOD LOOK AROUND THE FORUM BEFORE PROCEEDING. Pay special attention to bootloader issues with certain revisions of bootloader. The ability to cook roms that contain extra software in the previously wasted space makes the xda a much more useful thing than in its original state. You can upgrade to an official WM2003 rom with extras if you wish, all for free. If your radio stack is working LEAVE IT ALONE, most xda's that are rendered banjaxed are as a result of botched radio stack upgrades so please dont look for the latest or best or prettiest stack, the one that works is the best and that is usually the one already residing in your xda. Have fun.
WOW! Thanks for that cruisin-thru, I will try it and see what happens. If it works, I'll write you into my will.
Hi all,
I am currently using Jwright's WM6 ROM (so far so good, thanks J) and applied the ExtROM unlocker patch. I have 10MB free on this partition but not sure what to do with it.
I used to have Magician before and after emptying the ExtROM, I could use it for Program Files folder. But I dont think it's useful to do that for device with WM2005 or above.
So anyone has any idea to make use of it? Thanks.
you could put porn in there i suppose.....
I unlocked the extrom on my uni, helmi_c 1.1 rom.
However, when I delete the contents, it always re-appears. Any files copied in there, disapear.
Help.

I too am curious about this - is there a means of adjusting the Disk On Chip to utilise the space more effectively (as can be done on the Himalaya)?
@drsqueggy - that's what the 4Gb SD card is for
@Pyrofer - it sounds like it is un-hidden but still locked, ensure it is actually unlocked (and then search forum or start another thread if problems continue)
-sf
I gotta go with porn too.
You could put a few cabs in there of programs that you like such that if you have to 'system restore' the device, the programs auto-install for you.
It's a miniature time-saver, I guess, but I don't know if such programs could be uninstalled or upgraded when you were done.
Maybe keep one song you really, /really/ like in there?
Or porn.
how bout fonts???
and why not install progs which have today plugins/ load at start up....
a media player/photo viewer....so you can swap sd cards and still play media files..
with 10 mb porn on it, I have to be quick.
Man, 10k would be more than enough time for me... I'm over the hill
my suggestion is to make best use of the space available by storing your cab files. In case one needs to reload any application behaving strange it would help besides your storage card for other things.

I use this space for Internet Explorer Cache file. This can be easily done by changing the location of cache file in the registry.
Hi all, i have problem with extrom. I cant find solution for long time. I would like use extrom as normal disk, that means i would like to install programs on it and modify files on it.
I normaly do it, but big problem is after reset, when my files are replaced by original files from ext rom.
I tried many roms a same like dopod 900 aku 2.6 dont do it(after reset my files staied ext rom). I dont know where is the problem, mayby somehere in registry.
I dont know, where is original files backup. because i delete all files from extrom and tried find some of them in windows directory,no was there. But after soft reset original files are still here.
Please help
I would like to second the motion for this request. I do so with the full understanding that this question is already discussed in the forum. However, the threads are soooo long and contain information that is often conflicting. I have already followed along and tried several different methods of effecting this exact result. In the end, I have the EXT ROM area visible, but I cannot rid it of the O2 files and open it for use like the iPAQ File Store I used to have in my previous device.
Again, I apologize for requesting this information that already exists, but a definitive How To would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration...and more importantly, all of the hard work put into the site!
you need to both UNHIDE (make it visable) and UNLOCK it...that is you need 2 cabs to do this
Thank you; I understand that I need to both unhide and unlock this area. I have attempted this several times in several ways with several tools/executables...
good, now is ok. Before i used only extunhider. Now i run ext rom unlocker and it is ok
My goal is to reach in too my windows folder and delete all the unnecessary file copied to my windows directory....I was just wondering if I could remove the rom and read only properties of the folder!!!
I guess no one wants to offer me any guidance then......If this is information u wish to not make publicaly available can someone please pm me to point me in the right direction
If the files are in the ROM, there is no way of deleting them. Else, you can try Total Commander to do the job you mentioned.
Your best bet is to edit the ROM before it goes onto your phone.
I'd suggest either Pandora (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316881) or Core Pro (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309701&highlight=core+pro) as your best starting points.
Anything with the propery of being 'in ROM' will still be uneditable though, so any files wich you can't avoid having to install will remain 'locked' (although, by definition, any files you absolutely can't avoid having shouldn't be deleted anyway, if you see what I mean).
The whole problem is that even after installing all my programs to my storage it places tons of unneeded file in my windows folder....I Keep a tidy file system but windows folder has 103mb of data in it.....I finally have my device setup the way I like it after flashing a different rom everyother day...What options will total commander give me over resco explorer???
Total Commander won't give you any extra options, it's just that it is free compared to Resco. If you're really deadset on cleaning up your windows folder and want to keep your same setup that you have now, you need to "dump" the ROM and edit it on your PC. Look in the wiki under "Research and Technical Stuff" to find out how to do all that.
okay I guess I can try that even though that seems excessive.....is there anyway that when I cook a rom that I can remove the in rom status????
just watch what u do. some files u think are not needed are. best thing is to take a current rom and figure out what file belongs to what and delete whats not needed or cook a rom without the things u need. again pandora is a great option.
Not really, not as far as I know anyway. I'm pretty sure that anything which is there on first boot at the last moment before the OS starts to set the phone up is unremovable except by flashing.
The only other option I can think of is to unlock the EXTROM in case you've got some unnecessary apps being popped into Windows from it on first boot, cabs like ClearVue or suchlike extraneous stuff. If that's still being used when your hard reset your phone there may be a fair few meg you can prevent being nicked.
Thanks alot guy for the advice!!! I love this place I spend quite a bit of my time at work on here!! I will try the things above and see if they do the trick.....
Hey ya'll, I have a simple question.
I want to know if I can flash the ext rom from another HTC device onto my BA ext rom?
I just installed the 142 Tmo Uk rom, and was curious if I can grab the ext rom off of another Tmo USA device, so I have all the right settings and stuff?
TIA!
i wouldn't think so. may be able to do it, i wouldn't attempt it. i stripped my extrom, they don't actually have anything useful in them. just horrible themes and bad software.
you however could probably extract the extended rom from another device and copy the files and manually install them. that'd be easy enough i think.
yeah, flashing a rom from another device is not such a good idea, but since you are using wm2003, you can visit -=this tutorial=- and gain another 16mb of storage space and then just copy cabs that you want to the device or maybe even build you own extrom, to be copied to the sd card and installed automatically. to find out how that is done (actually pretty easy!) just use forum search and look for "cfg.txt" and Chef_Tony. i wrote some pretty long tutorials about that.
basicly it is just making an automated install routine for your most commonly used programs, so whenever you hard reset your device, the programs YOU want are installed, not those ridiculous t-mobile customizations, their pink dialer skin and things like that.
EDIT: btw. you should never take an entire extrom of another device. you never know, if maybe some of the things installed by the extrom are dependant of the display resolution or use device specific interfaces or mess around with device specific hardware buttons or drivers, you should extract the cabs and google their names, if you are not sure, what that actually does, so you can be sure, it will work on your blueangel!
have fun with that.
and @cerjam: don't be offended, your answer is completely right, i agree, just wanted to add a few little things
Perfect answers!
So, chef_tony, your telling me that it's ok to merge my extrom and storage in wm2003se? and then copy my cabs and write a cfg.txt of my own for an sd card?
I realize that I should do all the reading, but I'm the kinda guy who needs a generalized big picture before I start ripping apart all the details, so I'm looking for **** and jane/oversimplified answers.
Thanks, guys (and gals, if you are one)
