Remove start - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Is it possible to remove the text START next to the start button?
I would only like to have a start button with the word (start) next to it.
Takes space in the bar

Wisbar Lite does remove the text Start next to the button, but I'd like to know how to remove the text in registry. Is there a key for this?

or just have the "window" icon, no need for the word "start"

I am trying to do the same thing. I tried to search the wiki first and didn't find an answer. I don't want to have to install wisbar just to ditch the "start" text.

anyone have an update?

i will look into it later, my guess is that it in the shellres.96.dll file
EDIT: I just looked and its not there i also tried shellres.dll and its not there either. sooo i don't know

Any update for this thread?
Still looking for a way to remove the word START from the top menu bar.

Settings change from WM5 to WM6

Hi Everyone,
I upgraded to the O2 WM6 ROM last night and theres a few things I cant do that I could on WM5 and was wondering if someone could tell me how.
1. On the desktop i cant get the two buttons at the bottom to change from Calender on the left and contacts on the right.
2. The running problems icon has gone from the start menu options and I cant find it anywhere
I know these are trivial but you know what its like when you set something up the way you want and get use to it and then its taken away.
Cheers everyone.

Hi,
1. Just copy the file into the windows folder, do a soft reset, and go to start\settings\system... you will find the solution to remap the softkeys...
View attachment SoftKeyApplet.zip
2. Install this program. It will make an icon to the top right of the today screen. By this icon you can manage your running programs.
View attachment X-Button-1.5.zip
Cheers.
Cheers zsitvayb, worked a treat.
Is there a way to remove the battery indicator from the bottom right corner of the desktop next to the comm manager. Im using batterystatus which is more accurate so i have no need for it

Yes, that's possible. You shold do some registry tweaking... Hereby you can find a descriptipn about the registry tweaking: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Registry
Thanks again.
Can i ask one more, it will be the last.
When you go to text messages the left soft key is delete where as in WM5 it was new. Any way to change this back to New.
Thanks for all your help

Not that I know of, but you can replace the soft menu keys on the Today Screen with this...

Is there a way to arrange start menu?

Mine seems totally random. It's not sorted by anything.
Not to sound like a jerk but do a search. This was posted recently and discussed before. I don't remember the reg path off the top of my head.

Thanks! but that one seems for arranging Settings?

I second smarttoolkit ( www.e-natives.com) . I wish M$ would pay him to license his start menu for when WM7 comes out. Instead of that crappy Grid or List View start menu
for sure. it's a great program/app. i've never had any issues w/ slowness because of it either. plus, the app closer is key to have that handy.

Never heard of the app closer key. Can you elaborate? If you're talking about the right soft-key to close applications for the smarttoolkit app then i understand what you're talking about. But if you're referring to a different program, please share.
And BTW, to the original thread creator, The smarttooklit organizes the start menu in alphabetical order with anything in folder form to come up first. But you can also pin favorite programs to the quick launch section of the start menu which are the first 6 programs that pull up on the left-hand side. You just have to navigate through your start menu, press the right soft key select " pin to quick launch" and select which launcher number you want to assign the program to.
on the right side, i have a task button, if you click it, open programs appear & you can close them.

Noob Question

how can i change the order of my start menu i knew how to do it in the registry but i forgot can some pls help me
oh what order are you trying to change are you using smarttookkit or no?
no bro im not using STK, one day i was messing with the reg keys. and i found out how to do it. But now i dont know were to go..
go here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu
Obviously this only works after the MRU menu, if its enabled.
I have another question. my start menu has a background when i go highlight a program its green is there a way to change that??

[TOOL] Panels Button UnAssigner

Introduction
From time to time Panels button can be accidentally pressed (usually with "Green Phone" button). I hate long waiting for Panels Manager come to screen, cancel it, return to normal life...
It's very annoying for me!
Target
Disable primary function of "X Panel" button.
If you need to switch panel - use different launcher for PanelManager.
Simple Solution
Install latest MortScript on your Xperia.
Unzip attached file to any folder on your Xperia.
Run "UnAssign" to disable launching Panel Manager by "X Panel" button. You need to run it only once - "X Panel" button will be disabled forever (or until you use "ReAssign", see below).
If you don't need to switch panels - that's all.
If you need to switch panels (with disabled "X Panel" button) - use "\Program Files\PanelManager\ShowPanels.exe" (or your localized path) to run Panel Manager.
If you want to put things back - just run "ReAssign" to restore original function of "X Panel" button.
Folder with unzipped files can be deleted at any time - assignment/unassignment of "X Panel" button will be remembered.
After disabling primary function of "X Panel" button it can be used for different tasks. I use AE Button Plus to assign "Start Menu" function to short click of "X Panel" and "ShowPanels" to long press of "X Panel".
Should works on any localized device.
If someone needs .CAB version - just ask me.
I don't really understand what exactly your files do.. rename the panelmanager.exe and replace it with your empty.exe so it does nothing?
And the other one reverses this?
EDIT
Accidental double post.. dunno how!

Yes.
In addition you can use "ShowPanels" to switch panels in case that you need it even if direct function of "X Panel" is disabled.

the instructions are a bit fuzzy! And the first time i read it i got a little confused,,, unless you want many more people asking questions..i suggest u make the instructions a little simple

Thanks for suggestion.
I'll try to improve.
Anyway I like simple solutions.
Very nice, thanks.
You might want to mention that you need MortScript installed though. At least a noob like me needed to figure that out first.

Disable the quicklinks?

Hi.
Just testing out the manila 2.1, and was wondering whether there was any way to disable the quicklinks?
Had a quick look around, but couldn't see anything, so hopefully someone knows
Cheers
What are these "quicklinks"? Are you referring to the locked items in the HTC Start Menu? (ie, Home, People, Contacts, Settings?) If so, you can find out how to delete them in the following sticky thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524655
No, I was talking about the Manilla 2.5, where on the home page, you have the option to add programs which can be run straight off the home page. It's kind of like on the programmes tab, how it has the little + button to add the programme, but it's directly on the home page...
Haven't found a way to disable it, but found a way to stop it from showing the + etc, which I guess will do for me...
To do it, extract the attached file to \Windows on the pda, and restart the phone. This will make them available (so click in the rough area if you wanted to add a programme), but won't show anything there if you've not added a programme to it...
