how do I get rid of the T-Mobile Branding on MDA Pro?

I have bought the MDA Pro from T-Mobile. They have changed the phone-interface to a pretty ugly pink-gray branded t-mobile interface.
is there a chance to get rid of this without unlocking the phone?
does it vanisch by unlocking it?
any clue?
thanks!
dont know tmobile but if it's a today theme then you can just change it in system->today
and not the only thing unlock does is make it possible for people to use any sim in their phone unlocking dont change installed programs or settings
i have tried that already, but it seems as if the phone skin is locked by t-mobile somehow. i have already tried to upload different skins, but it always remains the same.
I suggest the phone skin is part of the t-mobile branding an can only be removed by unlocking the phone...
or by replacing it manually, but i have no clue how to do that.
if it's only the phone skin and not the pda skin then use the skin chooser here
http://www.yorch.net/apps.htm
if it's the whole pda then you can
1 remove the today items from tmobile
in the 2th tab in system today items
2 remove any tmobile ref from the \windows\startup dir
Hi !
Can you please tell me if the size of the "Z" key is the same as the "Y" key. I want a german version but i want to switch the letters afterwards.
Thanks.
to decebal:
yes the buttons have the same size.
to Rudegar:
I have already tried to change the skin with skin chooser 7 and
some other programs (have forgotten their names) but as i I "activate" or "applie" the new skin it always shows the phone with its old t-mobile skin. Nothing happens....
It is also impossible to remove the today theme, because the delete button is not clickable and i cannot finde the *.tsk file anywhere.
there is also no startup.dir or any file/folder that sounds like im on the right way.
At least I have now found (i think so) some of the *.pngs containig the button grafics. i will try to replace them with my own buttons...
They are in the windows folder called indialer_xxx
(e.g.: indialer_ps.png)
If there are any better suggestions i am very happy, otherwise i will have to change each button by hand (sounds a bit cheesy)
we will see if that may work.
hehe...should have thought about that before....the phone images are *.bmps, so i was able to change them manually with photoshop, but i can't upload them because the files are protected (or still in use by the phone in background). so now I have very cool buttons, but the only thing I can do with them is pin them on my wall
so there must be another more professional way, but I have no idea wich.
maybe you have some suggestions...
sometimes you need to softreset your phone after having used the skinchooser program maybe that helps
odd if you dont have a dir in the windows dir called startup
all pocketpc's i've seen have that
guess you could also unlock and unhide the external rom and remove the tmobile stuff you dont want
i've used that skin chooser device on both 2002 and 2003 but non of the later versions...
i would load another rom in it
I would if I could find out how this works on the new windows mobile 5.0...
if you know where I could find some reference for it it I would be greatful.
maybe its just to early to ask for such things, in a few month there will be lots of stuff in the net.
patience was never my strong side though.
how what works on 2005 ?
phone skin choosing ?
buzzdev.net is a good place to check out if you want 2005
if you install 2005 you will not see special odd tmobile colouring anymore

Getting rid of blue My Info and Cingular Phone Splash

Just got the default HTC_Default.tsk and i'm glad my phone looks the way I thought it would when I bought it. I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of the remaining traces of that hideous blu Cingular theme. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you should take a look in the HTC Wizard forum, or use the search for changing your Splash screen!
What do you mean by remaining traces? Dialpad? Color scheme?
Sorry noobed out I forgot to say Hermes

Thanks for the reply mccune. I'm on a Cingular 8525 aka Hermes. I got the HTC_Default.tsk and it looks awesome. I'd like to get rid of the phone dialer splash with the blue background and cingular logo I see when I use the phone. I'm still butchering the names of all the screens so I apologize. I realize it's hard to communicate w/o the lingo down. I'm learning. I'm trying to change the appearance of the phone w/o bricking it with a bad ROM install before I know what I'm doing. Thanks in advance for any tips on where to look. I'm definitely willing to feed myself if you point me to the fish.
For dialers you should check: PaulYa
You can simply create your own boot screen by doing this:
- Create a PNG image 320x240
- name the image: welcomehead.96.png
- Set the properties of the image so that it's hidden
- place the image in youw Windows directory of your device
The third part, the splash screen. I suggest you search for it in the Hermes section. There is also a big topic about this in the Wizard section. Don't know if it works the same.
Awesome dialer!
Thanks for the 411! I'm running Paul's dialer and it rocks. I've been doing so much research I've forgotten half my life.

How to remove operators customisations?

Hi,
I have a smartphone from Vodafone (VDA GPS). It features some customisations like the replacement os some default Windows Mobile icons in exchange of the Vodafone ones.
I.e. the Explorer icon is not the original one but the same as found on other Vodafone mobile phones.
I know that is just a detail, but I would get rid of those icons and get the original ones back.
Any idea how to do that? I own other WM6 mobile phones and I was wondering if I could like replace the executables or icons...
Next question: if I start messing with this stuff, will a Hardreset (invoked by software, huh) redo everything - am I on the safe side, or will I end up killing the flashed firmware? I'm asking, cause I did not find the firmware anywhere for download.
Next question: when I turn on the phone, I get the WM6 bootscreen. But after that, I will get a Vodafone animation. Is there a way to remove that?
So basically I would like to get rid of all the Vodafone crap...
...without permanently ruining the firmware stored in the flash.
Thanks,
vma
Pushing this up... lol
And refrasing:
Is there a way to change the icons on the apps that are flashed with WM6?
How do I change, i.e. the icon of the Explorer?
Thanks,
Vitor

What to do with boring PDA2K

Hello everyone,
I've used my PDA2K on & off for the past 5 years but have always felt it's pretty much not worth the effort using it for anything serious. The net is slow and the general Windows 2003 SE operating system fragile, I reckon I've soft reset a thousand times since owning the unit. What advice can anyone give on how to improve it's capabilities & make it less boring to use, what change should I try. I'm not worried about frying the ROM as I only use this to surf the net nowadays & thats about it, just feel it's too good to bin but want to get something more out of it than I'm getting now.
Thanks any advice on possible software changes would be appreciated.
i would say...try win 6.5..no doubt you like that
regard stef
The PDA2K is still the best device if you need a mobile log typing unit. It's beacuse of the built in keyboard and the big portrait format screen (wich is the best if you have to to type in lists, contact data a.s.o.). This unique feature is the reason why I can't change my PPC.
Win 6.5 for me is not so important, there are few drawbacks compared to WM2003SE (no build in Excel encryption, less usable screen area (because of hotkeys), no direct menus in office applications.
install wm5, when you get bored install SPB Mobile Shell, when you get bored again change the color of the menu
seriously its quite nice app, have nice launcher etc... try it...
Thanks
Don't get me wrong I love it but just feel I'm missing something as I'm sure it's capable of so much more.
I'll take the advice and have a play with upgrading, do current 2003 apps such as my TomTom run on the upgrades. Even if not I think I'll give it a go anyway.
Thanks again for the replies
Yes it works on new WM version
I think he becomes unconfortable of the buggy WMG.S (or 6.5 we use other names cause Mycrosooft hunts us) you need to taste first WM6... then 6.1 his manilla 2D is great... and then G.S is beta but fine... try it all but men
follow everything step by step at upgrading please if you have any question ask here please.
Not so Boring now
Well + Que PPC and others,
I took your advice and upgraded and its a lot less boring.
I can't sync though, it tries but the an error message appears on BA moaning about a USB port not being available.
When I now turn on the BA I get a white screeb with start and a few icons at the top and Phone + Contacts at the bottom, clicking start takes me to a black screen with icons. If I soft reset I get the red/green/blue/white stripes while it resets.
Is all this normal or am I still stuck in bootloader, I'm new to all this so what I mean is could this be something I've not finished off correctly that is stopping me syncing now.
I don't mind fixing all the other problems once I can sync OK.

Heh tjpearson, you was searching for new use cases. I suggested to use your device more professionally. You decided to have an OS update. This way you decided the best use case for you is trouble shouting.
Seriously, I can't understand why OS upgrading is such an important thing on the BA. The benefits of the device lies in the big screen and the built in keyboard. If you search for a nice GUI take a iPhone.
No idea
Hiya pdahunter,
I have no idea what you mean or what your advising.
All I want is to surf and keep important notes plus store my gadget PDF manuals plus photography bumph.
Hey ho going for a bath now and then bed, tomos night going to watch United win, I hope, so won't be able to look at this again til Thursday night.
Hope I've no fkd this Pocket PC up with what I've done.
come on guys!!!! why always this ends like this F***N S**T THINGS!!!
EGZTHUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! come on men! make your job here please...
I will prepare the scene for you a little...
@pearson
First of all please tell us wich ROM did u upload... again... please full charge your batt before UPGRADE...

Men write exactly the error message please, Meaning it says this... I guess i need to do.... I think my problem is... are worthless words here please provide exact messages. (does you enable the checkbox advanced network on setting usb settings?)
When I now turn on the BA I get a white screeb with start and a few icons at the top and Phone + Contacts at the bottom, clicking start takes me to a black screen with icons.

The white screen cant be posible men... I will xplain you the new OS built..
If I can guess what you've upgrade... I mean I nedd to know wich ROM are you upgrade please provide the name or the link where you find it...
FIRST: The OS 2003 didnt has the soft buttons PHONE at left bottom and right at right bottom cause the new OS are designed for PDA phones that has buttons on that place... thats all... ok.
SECOND: you said that when you tap on start it tooks you to a black screen with icons i gueeeeeeees you have WM6.5 cause since WM2003 we had start cascade menu like windows XP or VISTA or Whatever... Thats normal on WM6.5 if you want the older start menu? just... downgrade a WM6 or 6.1 it has the older start menu.
THIRD:
If I soft reset I get the red/green/blue/white stripes while it resets.

Well the boot screen is hardcoded in roms so... is not an issue is normal we can only change the splashscreen...
known new features and pro's for a new ROM tooks its time men I mean new apps and programs are not supported with WM2003 so this is the very first pro of upgrading...
You are not stuck on bootloader or... are you on a black screen with Serial or USB upside and downside a version... it is BOOTLOADER not the RGB screen! ok?
if it cant boots and it cant pass trough the tricolor screen well seems you need to upgrade again maybe your batt was dead on middle process and it dont have enough batt to boot... but maybe you dont wait the time... or maybe you need reupgrade a rom...
Dont be so alarmed men your device is fine calm down you are not brick jejeje

1. I did not change nor delete anything here.
2. Again, why change the OS to a Version the device is not made for. The only reason I can see is a better system GUI or new applications with a better GUI. That's why I suggest to take a iPhone if this is important.
3. I'm frustrated because I'm realy interested in the technical benefits of WM6.x. Better WLAN Connection? Stereo Bluetooth? Some unique apps that doesn't run on wm2003?
But as soon somebody speaks about WM6 on the BA the focus changes to trouble shouting.
4. Why it's not helpful to say "Don't change the OS version if you search for better use cases!" ?

Congrats.. oh and the issues on boot and other things are almost non follow step by step processes...!

WOH I didn't mean to upset anyone here, I'm learning.
Have no idea of what I'm doing apart from trying to update my BA to surf the net faster, be better to use and so I don't have to soft reset every 2 minutes. This is my 1st attempt, if I've gone in too deep then tell me, I'll back grade to 2003 and start again with whatever you recommend.
You know your stuff so stay friendly, calm down and I can help you set up race suspension on a Yamaha R6 for the best cornering Or if you want advice on patching a Technomate Satellite box I'm your man.

Replacing the "Stripes Screen"

Hello Smart Friends...
Recently i've made a downgrade to WM2003SE (to do a resize on my storage). Now i have WM6.5 (thanks XPlode!)
When i was with the WM2003 i saw the "Stripes Screen" was replaced by a carrier operator (TIM)...
After do the upgrade to WM6.5 this screen was back to "stripes"
My Question is: how to replace this screen??
I know there are more two screens after that, and these i know how to change, but the "striped screen" not!
.
Sorry, but that is impossible, because the stripes are part of the install program of wm newer than 2003...
And it is, like it is, from the time when wm5 was first time succesful instaled to Blue Angel...
And at the moment no one now how to change the stripes to any other image... (beside installing wm 2003 ).
and it is not really an image stuff, much like a boot screen it could be just values (color values) that enable those colors. And besides, it checks whether there is something wrong with your LCD.

Yes... I know, but would be cool if we can put a image there, like the WM2003 do
