Yes, I have had that same question too as I am an avid ctrl-v, ctrl-x, ctrl-c person. How in the world can they give us an empty (albeit programmable) button but leave off the control button?

nope not on the orbit
think you'd be clever but you deserve to hit the door or derserve a slap for that
orbit doesnt have that option
anyone..
Every orbit I've seen works as the previous poster explained.
Sure you're not just being a little stooooopid?
Yep definately a CAP key on mine too.
Are you using a Keyboard mod? eg. Happy tapping, if so it's SHIFT twice.
Hi aciforums,
Can you post us a screenshot of your keyboard please?
Does sound a little odd.
If you edit your name as I have written it you may no longer have a problem.

Sorry for unintentional misspelling ACIDFORUMS.
You may have gestures selected for your keyboard. Go to the keyboard options and then de-select "use gestures for the following keys". This seems to remove the CAPS key amongst others on mine anyway.

I've got a new Orbit and it doesn't have a CAPS key, only SHIFT even with gestures turned off. Although SHIFT twice works fine!
What works on all Win Mobile Version I know: Tap the Key you want to have as capital letter, hold the stylus down and slide up.
Press key - slide up - done!
The CAPS key seems to disappear when you have 'Large Keys' selected in the Input options.

Remap CTRL key to OK

I've been searching and searching, but can't seem to find a way to remap the ctrl key on the unlocked world version to be an OK key.
I think I've figured out how to remap keys, but not to an OK button.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I am trying to remap the Mail button to TAB. Any suggestions?
nope, I'm not sure how to remap to non standard functions or anything that's not currently on the keyboard.
Anyone else out there that can help???

Use the "back arrow" button! (Lower front, left to the third button.) The "back arrow" = "OK" button.

Thanks for the response.
I don't think that works like an OK, just back.
I'm also hoping to have one on the HW keyboard...

I don't have mine yet, but I seem to recall a discussion on this in another thread where users concluded that it really does act as an ok. Quick check, go to a setting with the okay button, change something, hit back, then return and see if the setting stuck. I seem to recall that it did.
Now I don't think you mentioned what your remapping method was, but once you've got that down, would you be able to remap CTRL to that hardware back button?
ok, I stand corrected, It does work that way. Thx.
Now for mapping it to the ctrl key on the keyboard. How would I go about that?? I've never remapped before
Have you tried http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php? I have no idea if it can remap to a button that doesn't exist.
I also haven't used it yet, so research first and proceed at your own risk.

[Q] Remapping the trackpad

Hi, I was wondering if I could remap the trackpad button on my Droid Incredible to the home button. Kind of like how if you press the center button on the iPhone, it goes back to the home screen. Is this possible? and I do not want to flash another ROM. Thanks.
Uhm, this phone already has a "home" button.....

can't we just answer the question? sometimes ppl. I would assume if he has a dinc he knows about the home shaped icon under the screen there, with that said I've never seen this question asked b4 but would assume no bcuz of already in place "home" button

I know there is a button, but I want to use the track pad button for the same function.
I think this would be useful as well.

Look at the Optical joy stick wake thread. It's in the keymap file somewhere. I don't know what all you can remap it too but I know they remapped it to wake the device (though inconstantly but thats a sleeping problem)
Just a thought, but would you not loose all of the intended functionality as a result of doing this? For instance, how would you take a picture or record a video?
I have ruby rom so there already is a record button or camera button on the screen itself so it's not a problem.
-steve
Redemption rom use to have a tweak that let you hold down the search button key and it would start the camera application. This was done by editing the incredible-keypad.kl file in /system/usr/keylayout and changing the line "key 217 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED" to "key 217 CAMERA WAKE_DROPED" i figure you could add a line "key 232 HOME WAKE_DROPPED" and get the home to open when the trackpad was pressed, but that didn't worked.
I've been trying to remap my trackpad to camera since I rooted my phone and still can't get the working. I hope this thread will spread some light on how to properly remap the DPAD_CENTER button.

Those two aplications remove the need for the trackpad button, however its usefulness doesn't end.there. the.ability to.scroll through text to edit without endlessly, 'push and pray' u get it in the right spot I would.imagine would get lost as well. The trackpad also can seek in some flash players too.

Okay. So this is not possible at all? Because i can edit text by zooming in on the website...
-steve
It doesn't seem to be possible... or if anyone has figured out how they don't want to share. Editing the kl files doesn't work like it does for other hardware buttons. Here's my thread asking the same thing:
[Q] Can't remap optical joystick?
would this be possible
if you were to look at the file text for the real home key maybe if you copy-pasted that txt into your trackpad txt file it would do the same function .......just a thought

If thumb keyboard isn't your thing then try Better Keyboard. I don't use it but they do have larger keys than the regular keyboards.
thumb key board is working well, i like it way much better!!!! thanks guys!
I highly recommend you check out Swiftkey. Although not optimized for big thumbs, its auto-correct and suggestion engine works extremely well for those times when you missed a key or pressed the wrong letter. Check it!

Gemini Keyboard Shortcuts

Got my Gemini on Saturday and just working my way around it.
Was looking at shortcuts for the Gemini Keyboard and found the documentation, however all shortcuts are a combination of a key labelled ? (magnifying glass) plus another key.
For the life of me I cannot find the key that is supposed to be the magnifying glass.
Anyone know which key this is supposed to be
Thanks in advance

I think those docs are for generic android with a keyboard; google has been pushing putting a "search" key directly onto keyboards.
The gemini shortcuts are mostly the "Fn" key plus another, which should be labelled. e.g. on mine (UK kbd):
ESC: "back" key, or hold down for "Power"
Fn+ESC: "power"
Fn+D: Android "home" key (desktop, not to be confused with traditional editing "home" key)
Fn+A: Android "recent" key (App switcher)
Alt+Tab: App switcher (standard android binding)
Fn+C: Volume down
Fn+V: Volume up
Fn+B: Brightness down
Fn+N: Brightness up
Fn+Alt: Phone app
Fn+Del: Settings
Fn+T: Mute microphone
Fn+R: Screenshot
etc.
Hope I am not hijacking this thread, but continued question about Fn usage
How does one get all the "strange" characters from the keyboard?
By strange, I mean stuff like "{}[]`/" and similar ones.
From the keyboard looks (symbols imprinted at the bottom of the key) I assumed its a combo of Fn+symbol, but it doesn't work.
I am using US keyboard layout and set to use Gemini keyboard as input method.

Did you figure this out? I'm trying to find that out now too.
It is [Fn] +'/ ' to bring up the symbols keyboard and you can select them from there. {}[]℅™®©¥¢√π∆~ etc...
Function key

When you use the Gemini Keyboard app to configure the Gemini US English layout there is actually one more step it seems. Once you've gone through the setup you should receive a notification to configure your keyboard. Select this and select the Gemini keyboard and you will be good to go. I ignored the notification for a while, believing it was prompting me to go through the setup process again but that was not the case.
Hope this helps.
