Got bored with the original 'phone' skin on my XDA2s.
Is there a way to change it?
Where to download?
Thanks in advance.
How can you not like that lovely black or silver finish and the stylish keyboard in red or blue..... Ohhh, you mean PocketPC 2005
Search for PocketPC Themes, there's LOADS. Get them from all over the place. Or download the Microsoft Theme Maker from Micorsoft.com/pocketpc and roll your own
Steve
I can recommend Bong's Workshop Dialpad Maker Deluxe, there's a couple of dialpads on my theme site that I knocked up with this app, it's very simple to use, but I haven't gotten round to doing many yet.
I agree that Bong Workshop's Dialpad software is great for phone skins - if you have a good graphics editor, you can realy customise the look and feel of the phone - It pretty good value to at about $10 to download (£5 plus a bit)

I'm looking, but unable to find an specific utility to skin the phone dialer only.

skins
theres a thread on ppc geeks on this subject
TierMann has a tool, TDial.exe, from his site that makes it VERY easy to skin.
All.... we have been working hard on CoreUI over the past 6 months. If your not familiar with CoreUI let me explain what it is. CoreUI is the Universal user interface (skins) behind CorePlayer. For developers think of it as a lighter, faster, smaller and more universal approach to skinning your applications compared to GTK or QT.
Even though we are still working on some of the design elements in CP. We are at the point now that we are comfortable to finally let skin developers start to work on skinning CorePlayer.
Now I want to say CoreUI is more then just a 'skin'... it is an XML based modular widget UI that gives you unlimited power to everything within CorePlayer.
So what will you need?
- Photoshop (or me with paint.net)
- XML experience is a MUST for skin designers
- Time to read through the 60+ page UI documentation
- Patience...
Anyone that wants the latest CoreUI skin documentation can email me ( info AT corecodec DOT com ) and I'll send it to them... as we want to work directly with the skin designers so, serious inquiries only.
Also I want to note... we are willing to pay $100 or more per skin! (now I got your attention)
Lets get to skinning!
Hello all!
For quite some time, I've been playing around with different interfases, looking for the one that would best fit my needs.
A few may have skipped my net, but I've been through WAD, Pointui, Ifonz, Winterface, etc etc, and believe me, etc etc etc
None of them seem to be the "all inclusive" I needed until after many weeks, decided to stick to Winterface, primarily, thanks to the work of davehutch and oscarbum with their Stickerface and Tenius themes which made Winterface a bit more palatable.
Yesterday I came across an article at mobility site which spoke about a Winterface version for the i-mate (http://mobilitysite.com/2008/12/vito-powers-i-mate-go/).
In a nutshell, it's a new Winterface version made for the i-mate, but here's the thing:
1) It's a 100% free version (aka, activated)
2) From what I've seen, it works on any wm5 and wm6 device
Why bother? Ok... Here's why: I understand that the "black" themes are having their moment, but the truth is they are unreadable in daylight conditions. And as crazy as it may sound, I use my phone outdoors.
So this version has BIG chunky icons on a white background which makes it very easy to read and see with all the Winterface benefits.
I'm sure the likes of oscarbum and davehutch can come up with some new icons, but this is the refreshing change I've been after some time.
Enjoy and let me know how you went with it.
** Added the cab for your reference **
fantastic, I never liked the small buttons of winterface when using my mda compact iv, it was too difficult to get them to work since the screen is quite small for a vga device.
works great, I can't thank you enough
Hey, no problems. I'm glad to start contributing for a change!
hey man thanks for putting up the .cab file (been looking all over for this) but do you know if it'll do fine on a QVGA or VGA
Works fine on QVGA, even works on WM2003.
Only caveat with this version is it's not full screen and it is so easy to close Winterface by accident. I raised this with Vito and was advised to upgrade to the newer version.
That said I have tried to live with it but have ended up going back to a modded SPB MobileShell as it shows more on my home page.
How can you make this 'today-app' be the one always shown if you start instead of TouchFlo?
I have the Touch HD/Blackstone
/edit
nvm.
Someone told me that it's not a today-app xD
So it won't be a home screen for me.
Default Today Screen??
Is there a way to make this interface the default today screen, I keep accidentally closing the program
I owe both a Polaris and a Blackstone and, in my opinion, TouchCube is far better than TF3D. TF3D looks nice but let's face it... it eats up system resources, it's laggy, when browsing through tabs it's not very thumb friendly (you have to bend your thumb to the max), you can't customize the tabs position (it would help if they were placed on one side because it would be easier to scroll through the same number of items having at least 30% more room to place the tabs), the so called customization... is way too limited (you get to change the fonts, the tab order, the shortcuts... in the end you'll get the same layout), the multimedia section was divided with the unhappy default association of the video files with an application clearly meant for photos...
So... my question: can the TouchCube be ported on the Blackstone and, along with it the Polaris Audio Manager? Can the Album application be "broken" in two applications one handling the photos and the other the videos?
I was thinking just the other day "what happened to the cube?"
It was pretty cool. Think it would be good a replacement for the action screen thats floating about?
Try duttys ROM with new manila, TF3D is uber fast

and what about ergonomics?
So... I get it that no developer is interested in porting the Cube to Blackstone
I have never tried it, but how about the option "Cube" under HTC TouchFLO when using Advanced Config. How about changing that to Enabled, will that do the job?
I'll make it my next project
I'm currently finishing an animated today screen for this phone while docked but when I'm done that that I'll start work on a cube launcher that replaces the current Program's tab with a custom app that gives you a cube with multiple options for launching programs... icon view, rotate to list view, rotate to cover-flow view etc
Did you try the cube here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336234
Maybe you just have to adapt to wvga screen ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336234
I tried this one instead... installs ok but it's for qvga it starts and then it goes to the top-left corner. the animations work just fine, some of the links must be rebuilt... and that's about it. But... i mus admit it... i don't have the knowledge to port it to WVGA...
I know it won't be free, but what about something like SPB Mobile 3 due out at the end of March? Have a look at around 58 seconds in here:

Just found a video showing it on a Touch HD:

I appreciate the work of the people at SPB. It seams they did a good job. But... I am not a phonecentric person and something like the cube suites me better. SPBM3 looks like it requires a lot of time to be customized and even when you think you got it you wake up with a fully texted today screen and a directions map to help you swipe through screens...
The HTC TouchCube might seam blunt compareing it to SPBM3 but this is what I like about it... an easy way to launch/hide, easy recognition of the page you're in... i can't explain it very well but for me... the TouchCube is more natural, more organized and a better interface than the windows start menu when it comes to basic tasks.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPB Mobile 3 looks great... forget what I wrote before. No need to write what they have already written

looks great!!
it moves really good!
Please resize the cube for vga/wvga would love it!!
yea spb mobile shell 3.0 does look good buuuuuuttttttttttttt its not free cost almost $30 and to be honest like many of you have been saying, i do miss the cube app from the htc touch...that app was very cool an useful plus i loved how when you needed it you just swiped up an when you were done you swiped down an that was that... SO I TO HOPE THAT IT CAN BE RESIZED FOR VGA AND WVGA!!!!!
Mrferrari23
If only I could... I'd do it myself
If it was posible id like the touchcube too, it's more finger friendly imo and it's faster to use. Like said before, if I knew how to do it myself, I would..
Bell UI
Browsing the internet I found the Bell UI. Looks quite nice.
To all the chefs out there... is there a chance to port this to HD? 'Cause I'm kinda' giving up the idea of the Cube being ported to the HD...
Hey,
this is my first contribution here on xda-developers and I hope you like it.
Overview
I've created a new skin for Microsoft Device Emulator and the designer view of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (2005). It is based on the HTC HD2 device and it looks so much more appealing than the outdated Pocket PC skin that the emulator / vs uses by default.
In addition to the improved looks, the skin offers more advantages:
The WVGA Emulator window now vertically fits on your desktop when using FullHD (1920x1080) resolution (or higher).
You have most of the buttons that modern devices use available: Send, Home, Start Menu, Back, End.
Modernized Windows Mobile application development/debugging experience.
(I know of the imminent release of the first Windows Phone devices, but I'm sure development for WM will continue for quite a while, especially on xda-developers. )
Screenshots (Click for full size)
HTC HD2 skin (left)
Default old Pocket PC skin (right)
Visual Studio Designer
Installation
The archive should be extracted to Program Files\Windows Mobile 6.5.3 DTK\PocketPC\Deviceemulation [Program Files (x86) on 64 bit operating systems]
Changing the emulator skin ist easy: Just click File->Configure...->Display and point the Skin textbox to the newly installed skin xml file.
For changing the Visual Studio Designer please refer to the instructions posted here: Form Factor 800 x 480
Notes
You can rotate the device by clicking the first of the two icons on the upper right hand corner. The other icon lets you reset the emulator.
Skin was tested with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Developer Tool Kit and Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition.
Known Issues
The hardware "Home" Button on the device does not always function as expected. According to this posting the hardware "Home" button is mapped to the Windows key (Smartphone Device Emulator table). However, when using the Pocket PC Device Emulator, the Windows key opens up the start menu, that's just how my emulator behaves. I couldn't figure out the key code for the hardware Home key - so if anyone knows the code, please send me a message.
I would like to thank:

The theme is called "Rock and Republic black" and is already installed when using the latest Emulator image (Build 23090).
You can check if your device has it installed by going to Start Menu -> Settings -> Home -> Appearance
You're Welcome!

I thought that image looked like mine... (you can tell by the corners!) Glad you found the image useful - would try yours out if I developed apps using Visual Studio Designer but if I ever start I will be sure to check it out!
Looks good. should be better than what i had to do which was manually adjust the old look which sucked.
Simply Exxellent ! Thanks !
Thank's a lot for you work.
It's wonderful ...
how to change the resolution of this skin cause on my laptop with screen size 1440x900 this skin is quite... big ' but standard Windows Mobile 6 Professional skin looks normal... Or there is maybe something messed in my VS config. If yes, then how to fix this ?
Because its WVGA the height of it is 800 therefore including the window around the skin would probably be more than 900 (your screen height) and not fit on the screen properly..
Thanks! I was looking for this.
