I have recently installed Artemis Touch 4.01 on my XDA Orbit. This seemed fine for a week or 2, but recently, I have found the phone swited off in my pocket (not in standby, i.e. hold power button in for few secs to swich back on).
Could this be a software bug, as this has never happened on O2 firmware?
If the only explanation for this is that the power button has been inadvertently pressed, can the keypad lock be set to lock automatically?
Thanks
Flashed to Touch 4.02 last night and I'm having the exact same problem.
I flashed to ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.02 2 weeks ago and have had my XDA Orbit shut off 7-10 times already. One of those times was when I was on a phone call with a friend. I just reflashed to ARTEMIS TOUCH VANILLA 4.02 today and have already had it shut off on me while I was driving. Can anyone make any sense of this? Any suggestions to fix this horrible problem of ours?
Battery ?
Hi folks,
I had my XDA doing strange things too. Battery status (%) all over the place, fast drain aso. found the XDA switched off. Was thinking about ROMs, SD card (I've a 8 gig one) and BT which I use regular, but the easy solution
I just bought a new battery
Standby is back to 3 days with some use in between, doesn't switch off unintended anymore.
May just think off how old your battery might be and how often you loaded it!
I was also thinking it was the battery so I decided instead of buying a brand new one I would drain the power and start from scratch. Yesterday I drained the battery down to 0% then recharged it. Since then I haven't had it shut off on me. I'll let you guys know the progress on if its fixed or not.. lets hope so. Thanks for the suggestion fun! I'll check back in about 5-7 days letting you guys know what has happened.
i went into settings/today and checked off the check box for htc home, this reset htc home to default settings (but still displays it regardless of the checkbox value) and it's been fine since...
wtf?
i've only had these problems since 4.02, everything was fine until then (I was on 3.xx before that and B&B before that and it's always been fine).
I've also flashed to Vanilla 4.2 with Radio 03.08.90 and the phone cut out on me during conversation and after that it would say invalid simcard.
After that I had it flashed with the original O2 WM6 ROM and radio 03.08.90 and now I have no power drain at all.
I've had it charged almost 25 hours ago and had not used the phone but for one call and just to check the time on it and I am still on 100 percent power. (battery Status)
I am amazed. Before, by this time I would be down to 85 or so percent.
I had just soft reset the phone to make sure Battery Status didn't get stuck on 100 percent but it still says 100 percent after the reboot. So I guess it's true.
The Rom is stable and no turn offs and works great with TomTom too.
This happened to me and flashing never fixed it. The problem is more than likely the battery but I took mine back to o2 (because it is on contract. You have a waranty for the same length as your contract, they just dont tell you). Take it back the shop, if its not your fault they will fix it. In my case they couldn't and they gave me a brand new XDA Orbit and battery.
Alright guys its been 5 days since I posted and guess what? My Orbit has yet to shut off! Woo hoo *knock on wood*. But if any of you would like to try what I did just let you battery drain out until its fully drained Then just charge it until its full again. Please let us know your findings if you do decide to try this out. Hope this solves your problems!
First off. . .I've had so many WINMO phones i've lost count. . . so knowing a bit about WINMO and how batteries work, THIS MAKES NO SENSE WHY IT WORKED. . .but it did.
Ok, let me know if this fixed the problem for you, I'd love to hear if there was another factor in my battery suddenly becoming An AMAZING powerhouse.
So my battery life SUCKED for the first week i had my Sprint TP2. After trying every reg hack I could get my hands on (including trying to disable 3g - which the mode of operation page just never showed up on my settings- like it did on my touch pro --anyone have thoughts on this?) I decided on another hard reset.
But this time was different. . . I let it charge all night long. . .then while it was still plugged in, I hard reset it. . .
1) CHARGE FULLY
2) hard reset while still plugged in
3) install myphone and restore (still plugged in)
4) install nuePower 1.52 -- soft reset twice
5) install other software
About 2 hours after doing this (and using it) i noticed the battery was still at 100% - - - WHAT!!!
My first thought was that the sensor was broken, but then about an hour later, it dropped to 90%. I used the phone more yesterday than i have in every day I've had it combined. . .
I downloaded (on the battery) I'd say upwards of 30MB -- did another myphone sync - a cleanup -- took about 1/2 hr.
Made several phone calls. . .bluetooth the whole sh'bang (about 30 mins phone calls i'd say)
end of the day . . . battery was at 50%
NOTE: for some reason the 1% increment doesn't work, but who cares anymore when the battery now ROCKS!
I'm more incline to think an app you install before was sucking the power somehow, did you have identical app suite before and after the hard reset?
yes, I've re-installed EVERY piece of software i had before. That's one of the reasons it makes no sense why it works.

where did you find that app at? Can you get different versions (KJV or NIV) ?
http://olivetree.com
they have several bibles for free (KJV, MKGV, ASV, etc) and some for fee (NIV for one).
app is pretty good, if not a bit "old" looking

Here, and yes. Many of the older versions are free. It doesn't support touch screens very well yet, but you can make the zoom bar work as a scroller which helps.
BTW, back to the OT-
I found that I had to turn off the power option that turns on the TP2 when the keyboard opens. The keyboard sensor is magnetic, and it would think the keyboard had opened every time I would put it back in it's HTC belt case. You know- the one with the magnetic lid...
i've not seen that magnetic case problem, got the case from Sprint, insert it in so the screen faces my belt. . . no problems there. Yup, just checked it.
Hey where did you find that feature to turn off the keyboard thingy. I have a magnetic case and I always see my light one when I take it out of my case
second that request for how turn off the power option on sliding the keyboard..
it is silly anyway. I never slide the keyboard unless i have an app open that needs it. But that app doesn't need it until I open and use the app, which doesn't happen until I turn on the phone.....
LOL

Google is your friend-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523842&highlight=power+keyboard+slide
here: so you don't have to jump through 2 loops to get to it:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DeviceMap\Keybd] Create new dword "SlideWakeup" with value of 0 and soft reset.
To revert, delete the key or set it's data to 1

Schap's Advanced Config did that on the Kaiser, has anyone tried it with the TP2?
I have that installed, i don't see the setting anywhere.
Can anyone else confirm this... I would do this in a second if I thought it would work. I barely get a days worth out of normal use. Sprint TP2
I'm about to give this a shot. I'm not terribly upset with my battery life, but anything more would be better. I see that you are using the sprint TP2. Is hspl out for that yet? I'm using a Tilt2 and have a custom ROM. Not sure if that means much to you but I will let you know if I see an improvement.
Update
So far so good. I won't know if the 1% battery driver doesn't work until the battery meter updates, but it hasn't dropped below 100% yet. It's my feeling that the full charge and hard reset on charge is what did the trick. I will keep everyone posted.
can anyone tell me if they are having success by using this method...is this working on any touch pro 2 bc i have a verizon touch pro2 and im lucky to get 10 hrs life with it and thats with texting only (heavily)...i dont make any phone calls and i barely use the data but like i said, im lucky to get 10-12 hrs of life...any help would be great

Well I've been using my phone with heavy to moderate usage since my last post (with wifi off) and my phone is currently at about 65%. So it doesn't seem that my battery life has improved dramatically. I'll have a better idea about how effective this method was on my battery life later this evening.
Update
It has been about 10 hours off charge and my phone is currently at 36%. Since it's the weekend and I just got the phone I've been using it a little more than usual. So far I feel that the battery life has improved after using this method. Once I've used it for a couple more days I'll report back my results.
Update 2
I woke up at 8am, used my phone throughout the day, and here about 12 hours later my phone is at 33%. I am much happier knowing that I can use my phone all day and still only have to charge it overnight. Thanks OP.
Solution to my battery life issue.
Hi all,
This is related to battery life (but not really the original poster's cause), so I thought I'd post it here so others can find it. I purchased a TP2 in a city where 3G coverage exists, while on a business trip, and I was pleased with the battery life. But when I returned home I found my battery life decreased greatly. The phone was only 3 weeks old, but I thought I might have had a dud battery. The Settings>System>Power>Information tab, however, showed many hours of device usage (which was draining my battery) even on days when I didn't check email or use the internet.
I was finally pointed to a solution by a T-Mo rep (after a few encounters with less-informed staff). My home location is in a non-3G area and my phone was constantly trying to find 3G coverage all day long when in my home area. This was, apparently, the equivalent to being on the internet all day and my phone wouldn't last 10 hours. I went to Start>Settings>Advanced Network and changed the option to Disable (when I'm in a non-3G area) and this solved the issue. My phone now lasts two days again, instead of 10 hours.
This is, I know, slightly off the topic of the orginal posters topic but I hope someone reading about battery life issues might find this useful.
can anyone provide me the nuePower 1.52 i cant download it
Heii y'll! i have a several problems with my t mobile dash! i purchased it and when i turn on all okay, but the cellphone turn off several times, reboots and reebots every 15 minutes making something in the cell or not. It sounds like a battery issue, you should buy another one. Have you tested your phone while charging? Does it turns off also? If not...that will be a good indicator that you definitely need to replace your battery. You can find cheap ones in ebay. You should check other threads where you can find your same issues http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577635
Anyone else having this problem?
The phone won't turn back on from what I think is locked because the screen is black, but none of the buttons do anything, I have to re-insert the battery and the phone will boot up with the power button. This happens almost every day.
Sounds like a problem with the digitiser/screen, and a candidate for a warranty return ?
Have you tried to switch it off (the screen with short press, not the power) and then on again with the power button? Sometimes it happens on my z too but its just a sw bug. Switch off and on helps here.
-- sent from htc z using xda app
I am able to lock and unlock with the power button normally.

Could be a problem with the contacts on the battery -- perhaps the contact is loose, so when you bump the phone just right it loses power and shuts down.
I had this once last week. I left it sitting on the workbench in the garage for about an hour while I was out there and it became unresponsive to all buttons/keypresses.
A battery pull and it fired right up again.
It was -10C in the garage and the bench is metal. I chalked it up to getting too cold.
It hasn't done it again since I keep it in my back pocket (front pocket has claimed a few digitizers/LCDs in the past!).

This is definitely not an individual case as I saw so many DesireZ or G2 users in HK or China raised the same issues on the gfan forum (one of the China HTC forum).
My DesireZ is a genuine one with stock ROM. It happened 2-3 times already of what we called the "sleep dead" in China here.
I locked the phone then after a while when I tried to turn it on, all buttons became dead. Finally I have to pull out and insert the battery again to make the phone alive.
Some of the gfan forum members also encountered the same situation. Some of their phone are Euro version and some Asia Pac version but the cases are the same that means this problem are not only for a specific version. Some say it is becoz of temperature but I really don't think so. I am sure this is a bug......
Bring back to HTC is not a solution as this "sleep dead" phenomenon don't appear every minute. Mine has happened 3 times and I bought this DZ only about 2 weeks.
happened 2-3 times to me too, each time it was sitting in my pocket.
it's summer in Australia so i doubt its anything to do with being too cold.
hasn't happened for about a week now, so i kind of ignored the problem.
That is definitely not good news.
Mind is still stock from Bell, unlocked for use on Rogers.
I guess I may have to find a replacement phone soon.

I encountered the same problem, so do my friends. Google maps causes the problem in 3 different phones.
Sent from my Desire Z
Anyone found a solution to this? Is it a s/w bug or a hardware issue? Thanks.
As far as I can tell, it's a hardware issue. Happened to me four times randomly before I took it in and exchanged at Bell. My new phone and the phone my friend got (at the same time as my first), has zero issues.
At the time, it didn't matter if it was cold, warm, fully charged, plugged-in, etc. It would do it randomly once every 1-4 days. It didn't even matter after I did factory reset (so software would not be an issue).
I have no idea what causes it but if you're getting the sleep-dead issue, I'd really recommend exchanging it if you can. Better to be safe than wait and find it's not an issue you can fix yourself.
I have a Bell stock Desire Z that has done this twice. First time it happened was when I tried wake it up in the morning after sleeping all night. The second time it was at a Christmas party. Just finished taking a picture. Went to take another shot, bang it was dead. Both times, pulled the battery and it came back to life.
Bought mine from Bell as well less than 2 weeks ago. Do they give any trouble to exchange it? Do they actually need me to factory reset it before returning/exchanging it?

I didn't have any troubles. I did a wipe and factory reset, then wipe again for security though. As long as you're only doing EXCHANGE (not refund), you have 30 days.
I must report that this issue happened on mine as well.
In JuicePlotter, the period where the unresponsiveness happened, juice plotter recorded no power.
(Either that or juice plotter only refreshes the graph when you open the app).
Happened twice within the first 48 hours of getting this phone. In day 3 now.
I have the same problem. It happend to me twice (in two weeks).
I would like to know if this is a software issue.
I still have the stock unmodified rom but am planning to install custom roms.
If this appears to be a hardware error, I should return my phone and get a new one. If it's a software thing, there will be a fix eventually, or I can just install a custom rom and be done with it...
anyone any idea?
Is there anyone with a custom rom who has the same problem?
Like I've said, I doubt it's a software issue (especially when it happens AFTER factory reset). But again, why take the chance? Better to be safe than sorry than be out $600.
happend to me today for the first time too... fully loaded, not pretty cold and stock rom on european version. it seems to simply being switched off. kind of sucks, as i'm having hardcase around which needs to removed everytime first.
mine too
it happened to me too. just after i started using maps and locations. i have it for a month now and this issue just started to surface the past 3 days...ohwell..hope we get a fix soon..or at least a "how to stop this issue" sometime real soon....:|
How is that even possible?
I have attached 2 screnshoot of a Galaxy Nexus battery drain.
My phone is 100% stock, I just restored the nexus official image. The battery should be new, I already sent the phone to the manufacter last month and I think they changed the battery.
I didn't even setup a google account, no app installed, wifi off and there is good signal.
There are no wakelocks. Screen was off all the time. The battery just go down.
(Some translation. Segnale rete mobile = mobile network signal, Attivo = active, Schermo Acceso = Screen on)
What should I do? Call samsung again and stay another month without my phone? Is there any other solution?
Well, for starters you could let it charge for another cycle or two to be sure about. Also I see the Network reception is not so good. That may be responsible for the drain, though I highly doubt it !

Yes, I'm trying to do some complete charge/discharge.
I have similar result in Airplane mode, network reception is not the problem.
Thanks for the answer. :good:

I have the *exact* problem (or at least, similar).
I have RMA'ed my phone 2 times, teling me they had done a "mechanical repair" (in Italian, as per repair center label, "riparazione meccanica").
Don't ask me about the meaning of this. It could be everything, but one thing is certain: serial number of the phone is the same, so they did not change the motherboard at all.
Back to topic, I'm experiencing serious issues:
1) huge battery drain in airplane mode, even after complete stock and several ROMs (the service center restored 4.0.4 on it, funny)
How did I test: the day I received back my phone, I have simply fully charged it, switched to airplane mode overnight and I have lost more than 30% battery with NOTHING at all installed, I even left the wrong date/time !!
2) before RMA'ing it, it did not matter if I used 3G / WiFi or nothing at all: I always got a similar battery discharge curve.
BUT today I noticed something odd:
while testing for the (1) issue above, I noticed that the "Awake" (aka "Attivo") bar under the battery graph was pretty full blue colored, which is NOT normal actually. How can it be after a full wipe (or so, as per after sale service) ????
Let's try to troubleshoot this problem guys, because I'm really fed up
...and I don't want to sell this Nexus, I simply love it hehe
TODO:
1) Wipe and test again -> charging the phone right now
2) analyze dmseg (maybe there is an hardware issue that keeps interrupting the CPU) -> after a quick look it seems that actually my interrupt idea could be true ( "Resume caused by IRQ 39, TWL6030-PIH". This is the power management unit) but I have to see during the airplane mode test, not while charging (that might be correct)
3) measure the current and compare results against a nice study of another guy (that reported power consumption on different scenarios)
4) ??

The same. They changed the battery in my case. I did a mark with a marker pen on the battery before sending it and the mark is not there after RMA, so they changed it. Phone serial is the same.
They also put 4.04 on my nexus, what a shame!
I did not experienced the "active" thing on the battery statistics. I had several wakelock from "RILJ" but after a full restore the disappeared.
I restored (again) the phone with nexus image, and even locked the bootloader, removed the sim card and disabled wifi, gps and everything. It always discharge by itself in a too short period of time.
Is there something I can tell to RMA to make them change my phone? I don't think it's a software problem.

I agree, this must be an hardware problem.
To say, I have tried a long list of ROMs and kernels, as well as updating radio and all other sort of stuff.
Now the awake "problem" has gone, so today I'm gonna retry the (1)st experiment.
Let's see...
In any case tomorrow I'm going to go to the shop and ask them if they could be so gentle lending me a fresh battery to test out.

No, I never used tethering.
My phone is at RMA again, I asked to fix it FOR REAL, I'm just hoping.
I've had a similar experience since first getting the phone. While with light usage, I used to get anywhere between 16 hours to a full day of battery life, I'll only get between 4 and 6 hours of screen-on time. Whether full stock or ROMs, it's always been the same. I've eventually just chalked it up to hardware being the issue and made sure to always have a spare battery and charger with me at all times.
I got my phone back.
They said that they changed the motherboard. On the package the note is "sostituzione board unit".
In the next few days I am gonna do some test to see if they really solved the problem, I really hope so.

Nice to hear
Today I was suprised of my phone's duration (still no serviced again): more than 1 day (of course without doing much) and only 10% drain during the night.
I don't know what happened BUT i can say also that I'm experiencing now a problem with the network (GSM, 3G): the network crashes sometime also while calling or while idling.
Today it did not crash in a > 10min call, so let's see also the battery drain during this night
...because strange stuff happens!
try update to the latest new radio.. flash radio.img

I think that the problem is solved.
It was a hardware problem.
I'm on CM10.2stable now.
Latest radio and bootloader.
Now my phone last enough .
I called Samsung a lot of times to urge them to fix my phone.
EDIT: I'm now on 20h20m on battery with 3h23m screen on and 4% left. Goood
