It was slow, but I've it on my side.
anyone installed this yet?
CE: 1.30.68
Ext_Rom: 1.30.153
Radio: 1.09.00
looks good..
Is this valid? How come it isn't in the imate site yet?
The rom versions look old to me. I am not sure this is really anything other than an upgraded radio. Has anyone tried it yet?
Didn't decided to upgrade yet :?
Regarding ROM numbering, it seems to be something quite new.
However, filename ends with "...test"... Maybe it is still an internal beta version which leaked!?
i installed it. MSFP confirmed. OS 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0)
first thing you'll notice added is the Wireless Manager Today Plugin, the clock is included in the Date Today plugin, a battery icon at top bard, Wireless Manager is now Comm Manager with different UI
... and one of the nicest addition.. KEYPAD LOCK!
Can this be installed on a Qtek 9000? I have heard nothing about a new ROM release from them so far.
Thanks

Tried it on my Qtek 9000, but always got the message "ERROR 120: COUNTRY ID ERROR"
Ok, got it!
Extract all files from .exe to one folder with WinZip, and then replace "ROMUpgradeUt.exe" with "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" on Unversal ftp Upload folder.
The same as used for the radio upgrades.
Sweet! Thanks! Im still on the fence weather or not it is worth it to try, or wait for an offical Qtek update with AD2P & push mail.
THe K-JAM updates are the same versions which were released so it's safe to say that they are probably release candidates

Hey, we may even find a Windows Mobile 5 ROM Builder which buzz could exploit
Just a thought...
Someone has uploaded it here (\uploads\universal).
Thanks....
it's pretty smooth so far... love the new battery icon on top. Yet to see how faster push email is though...
Hmmm, no Stereo Bluetooth Audio. But no surprises there, really.
Comm Manager is basically the same as my SP5 now, and the battery icon on the TaskBar rather than in the system tray does nothing for me, especially as it means they've had to move the clock onto a today screen plugin...I never have the date plugin visible on my today screen, but I do want to see the time somewhere anyway!!! Anyway, reg hacks will sort that out.....Device lock is probably helpful for those who often use their Uni's in "Tablet/PDA" mode, and it's inclusion brings the Uni into line with other WM5 PDA's now. Oh, and the built in themes have finally been cut down a bit (still 738k, and 695k though!). Storage space is pretty much unchanged, still about 40000Kb after removing Anti-Virus, Skype, and Backgammon.
However the best thing...is it just me, or does my Uni now run at about twice the speed that it was doing?!? Menus, Folders, and Settings screens all open without any delay, Orientation switching is finally bearable, and everything else seems to be whizzing along like you wouldn't Have thought possible.....for now!

Has anyone been able to figure out how to unlock teh extended rom on the Dash (actually more specifically the s620/excalibur)?
The reason I'm asking is I'm looking for a cab for the intent midlet manager. I'm curious to see if it handles the high mem version of opera mini better than teh default esmertec one does. I'm not patient enough to wait for their "fix" I guess
TIA
there isn't an extended ROM in the smartphone OS.
*BUT*
The high memory version of Opera mini works great on my Dash running the S620 OS.

sweet. does that mean you wanna trade!!
apparently the problem is in the midlet mgr tmo usa bundled, hence the request for intent.

Ah I missed that part. I received teh reply notification while I was in the car. Typed teh reply at a red light
I've debated bewteen installing it or not. Here's my reasons why not:
1) I'm cheap. I don't know if I wanna spend the $40 to unlock.
2) This is the first smartphone I've bought from tmo. I'm still nervous about voiding any warranty. I need to research a bit about being able to either reflash to the stock tmo rom or backing up my rom to a microSD like I did with teh MDA, as well as being able to CID lock my phone again just incase I have problems.
3) I'm coming from an MDA that I've flashed probably 15 different times. Its a slippery slope to Phone geekdom once I start.
We'll see what happens, thanks for the tips tho. (Eliminating xT9 would be nice though...
Reasons to unlock your phone and flash the s620 ROM on it...
1. the original T-Mobile ROM is available so you could always go back.
2. I'd pay T-Mobile 40 bucks if they'd tell me how to at least turn XT9 off permanently!
3. I hate carrier branding.
4. You'll get that good java client you want
5. You know you want to
6. You'll be able to use *ANY* ROM that comes out in the future.

My understnding is the HTC ROM doesnt support teh push and hold feature to get teh alt of each key?? I've really gotten used to that now.
that is correct, no push and hold. The only other thing that is wierd in the s620 ROM is when you're surfing a mobile webpage where you can hit a number for an option instead of highlighting and selecting it, it doesn't work. Typing 7 to delete your hotmail works on the T-Mobile ROM but not the s620 ROM. No idea why.
*BUT*
That XT9 irritated me SO much, I don't care what I lose. Losing XT9 is the best feature of this ROM and my main motivation for doing it. Also, you get the native JOGGR functionality back (which is a little buggy and slower than using the D-PAD but I digress).
It is a very solid ROM and the Intent Java client is a nice bonus.

yup. There is no extended ROM on Smartphones but POF can probably answer better than anyone.
I'm saying there isn't... But I've been wrong before.
-Mc
i think you are!
there is other smartphone with extended roms and to clarify to those who do not know what extended rom is ,when its visible on your device it is a folder with all the applications and carrier settings in it ,that when you hard reset your device they are installed, and one thing is to find how to make it visible with file explorer and another is to unlock it to be able to copy the files some where else ,!!!
Is there going to be a section for the HTC Touch/elf soon? It was released yesterday. http://www.htctouch.com

OK, I have received my HTC Touch! It really is as amazing as it looks. Any questions or comments post here.
The only little problem I have had is the weather app. does not have a town close enough to me but I've solved that.
Here's what I did:
Go here http://www.accuweather.com/us-city-list.asp?zipcode=&u=1&partner=accuweather and find the weather page for your city/state/county. Take a look at the URL, on the end, you should see something like:
locCode=EUR|FI|FI002|HELSINKI|&u=1
(Helsinki is already in the weather file, this is just an example!)
Take a note of this.
The file we need to edit is read-only, and I can't see a way of editing it via activesync/windows. I just got a load of write-protect errors. I got a tool called TotalCommander, it's a freeware file viewer/editor for the PPC.
In TotalCommander, navigate to \Windows\ and open HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml
Once you're inside this file all you need to do is copy an existing entry and make sure you put in the corresponding weather data from the step above.
Ex.
<city name="Helsinki, FI" locationcode="EUR|FI|FI002|HELSINKI"/>
Easy
Questions...
indeed I have a lot of questions
first congratulations for getting this awesome device so fast. I think of buying it because it's nearly of the same size as my HTC S620 Excalibur smartphone but I have NO experience in PPCs...
So here we go
1. how is the battery life
(I know it will last a while until you can say something significant)
2. how much memory is available
(internal user Flash and RAM) - on my S620 I have installed nearly everything I regularly need on the phone since it has 66MB of user flash available)
3. Can you run TomTom on it?
4. any software issues with installing third party programs
5. how is the screen?
good readable in direct sunlight?
6. how is the screen protection?
Is it soft as a usual touch screen or hard as a mobile phone screen?
Is it possible to mount a screen protector without losing "touch control"?
7. how is the loudspeaker?
loud and clear enough for navigation in car?
8. Do you have the possibility to compare the speed with a standard smartphone?
That's it for the first - maybe to come more if I have forgotten something
Thanks in advance for your answers
and habe a lot of fun with your new toy
Hi!
I will try and answer your questions as accurately as possible, but bear in mind I have only had this device for a little over 12 hours, and I had to sleep at some point during those hours.
1. Battery life so far is good. HTC state battery life should be 5 hours talk and 200h standby and I think this is quite accurate.
When I got it it was partially charged. I charged it for an hour or 2 (while using it) and used it heavily after that, around 4 hours of bluetoothing, wifi and camera. This morning the battery is at 57%. I'm quite happy with that, considering I have not even given it even 1 full charge/discharge cycle.
2. 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM. 32.5MB Free out-of-box. It comes with a 1gb microSD but I've already upgraded to 2gb.
3. Yep, TomTom is one of the first things I installed
4. No software issues so far, but I have only installed a couple of games and Spb GPRS Monitor. My one gripe software-wise is that there is no 'Internet Calling', no built-in voip.
5. The screen is great. Really clear, crisp and readable. The WM6 image they have has cleartype (no tuning application, mind)
6. Screen protection is not great. The screen itself is flush to the phone, there is no recess like other touch-screen devices. While this makes it look great, and makes it easy to touch buttons on the edge, it also makes it very scratchable. Luckily the phone comes with a nice little HTC case. The case is a snug fit, not big or obtrusive, no straps, loops or anything. It is a spongy material with soft interior. I am not using a screen protector because the case will do just fine. The screen protector that's included with the device looks like it would fit well and go almost unnoticed but I am a bit reluctant to put it on because you already have to be very 'positive' with the screen to get it to react. This is by no means a bad thing, by the way. Overall, it feels good to use.
7. I have yet to properly test the loudspeaker. I gave tomtom a quick blast and from what I heard, I think it would be fine in a car.
8. Well I have moved to this device from a HTC hermes. Yes, there is a difference in speed but I personally dont find it a problem. I would consider myself a bit more than a casual PDA user (if that makes any sense). I use it for work, surfing, gaming and obviously phone calls/sms and I dont have a problem with the speed. I think this is possibly an unfair comparison however, as something that may take 5 seconds on a hermes could take 10 on the Touch -- but the hermes would have crashed half way
The only smartphone I have really had experience with is the N91. I found the N91 so slow I had to get rid of it. I'm keeping the Touch
Hope this has cleared a few things up.
VOIP
Is it possible to run programs like skype for VOIP on the HTC touch?
And how is the quality of the camera and music?
Thanks

Hi alanp23. Firstly congrats on your new HTC Touch. I love the flush look of this baby and would much prefer this over any i-phone wanna be PDA.
As your no newbie to PPC's, you'll undoubtedly be aware that you can overclock the TiOmap processor to about 240- 260Mhz without issue.
I found my old overclocked HTC Prophet outperformed my 400Mhz Hermes. Fancy that!!
Anyway...cut to the chase. I know you have hardly had your device for a few minutes, but would you mind making your ROM/extended ROM visible and seeing if there is a cab file for the Cube Touch software? If you are able to extract it and upload it here or to the Athena forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310459
This would be greatly appreciated by the xda community as we could try and see if it would be possible to run on other devices.
I doubt very much if it will run on the Athena, but we're all willing to give it a run.
What do you say? Up for it? Thanks if you are and I understand if you're not.
Either way, enjoy your new toy, it looks fab.
P.S. If your using TomTom and haven't checked out an alternative, you simply must have a look at the repackaged version of iGo My Way GPS software known as MioMap v3.2 with the Quicksilver Map. It's far better and more accurate than TomTom and much more configurable. Also, it takes up much less space on your device.

Hi,
I bought an HTC p3600 last week and upgraded it WM6 for no obvious reason at the time. I tried over 6 different ROMs, and no offense to the beloved cookers, i couldn't stand the bugs, so I downgraded to WM5 again. The only things I'm missing from WM6 are the task manager menu on the top right of today menu (xBotton), which was extremly handy, the lovely big TouchPad and KeyPad, keyboards which Bepe has put in his ROMs, which are very good for writing messages with one hand, and the quick search in emails, while you typed your search string while in the inbox or any other folders. The last but the least is of coures, HTC home which is so good looking and handy.
Now is there anyway i could install these on WM5? I need cracked versions of course, as i'm leaving in Iran and due to lovely embargos getting worse every day I have no means to pay for stuff. So pls comment.

Try using the Dopod WM6 ROM or search this forum for the cab files you want.

Use the advanced search function of the forum and your find all you need - you seem to be very familiar with searching so I wont explain that too!!

One example is that ActiveSync was loosing it's connections in one of the cooked ROM's. That's not a problem if you use it only as phone but not handy when you sync mail from Outlook etc.
It's a big bug, but within a day it was fixed in that ROM and I could choose to use other ROM too.
The forum is called XDA Developers and that means bugs, but lastest developments too. You can't ask a bug free ROM incl. the lastest software. If you want that bug free ROM, maybe you consider an official build or consider another sort of phone like a Nokia 3310.
OR
Define your most important feautures and select one which has those features working. Report the bugs in the other features, but don't complain about them.

I did installed successfully, without any trick or crack the HTC X-Button 1.5 onto my wm5 official Qtek ROM on my Wizard.
So you can definitely have it on your wm5 ROM, just try to find the cab on the forum, it is somewhere there.
If you don't find it PM me, I will upload it for you.

install it from your phone
it won't do it:-( have installed from my storage card and it cam upwith a load of text, i take it, it installed, have paired my phone with the other phone, can send stuff, just can't recieve, the ftp tab or whatever suppose to be there (only going by what other posters elsewhere have put) isn't there. Imust be thick or something
i have paired the devices
so in devices the item is there, in mode i have both check boxes checked, compports(unsure about this, do i need to do anything in there?)
oops i am now experiencing hang ups on the phone, taking ages to do things...Hmmmm
not going to do a reinstall just though.
are there anymore fixes i can try for this, i have saved this one just in case though, xx
make sure 'beam' is on in comm manager and set to receive all in connections.
been having seveve problems since ilast posted tried to reinstall from scratch the copy of 6.1 i have and the screen was going white, so i have updated to 6.5 again, although i hate it, it's a shame there isn't an updated stock file of 6.5 with the look of 6.1 because that would be ace. Love the new connection in 6.5 on/off thing is i am having the same issues with bluetooth with 6.5, it must be my phone??? don't know where to turn now

link won't work for me:-( i have reinstalled 6.1, but it hasn't fixed it. But it maybe useful to know that if you do try a clean install of something, inother words the same on top of them same rom,and it hangs then it maybe worth installing a different one and then going back to the one you want, it worked for me anyway...lol

flash the at&t one before you flash the rom of your choice. It is essential to getting your phone to work well with 6.1 and 6.5 roms and eliminating tons of problems.
also flash using the sd method if possible

no offence but that rom is awful, it slows my phone, the backgrounds are rubbish in it, the different keypads are good though, but i only wanted the normal one. i don't wish to be scathing about it, but it just is not my taste. The bluetooth still doesn't work, no tab, people keep going on about another tab i should have at the bottom of the bluetooth, can someone clarify this??
i must say though., seeing the WIFI and Bluetooth on the screen is brilliant. The today screen is extremely basic. why isn't the start screen editable?? i'd like messages, clock, file explorer, and a few other things but there you go.
i am now searching for another 6.1 to rival the first one i found or a 6.5 that isn't to overthe top
Actually flashing with the microsd card is the preferred way because it's faster, more reliable and doesn't require you be connected to a PC. I think you should read the wiki a little (not meant to be condescending). If you want nice 6.5 roms that don't slow you down then try the lite versions. You will find them all with links to the at&t base rom.
finally tonight i have found what i have been searching for
the shipped 02 software
i am a complete newbie, and i'm totally wondering why no one pointed me at this when i first came to this forum, it has even replaced that stupid Dark vision HTC splash screen...rubbish!!!
It has fixed my bluetooth issue straight away, i know you like pushng the boundaries on here but christ i have spent 5 days searching for this!!
hopefully any newbies will find this post,it for a XDA Trion or Hermes 100 as i later found out and is the software that rolls out from 02
oh god finally.

Hi Essexgirl. Can you please tell me, where did you find the shipped 02 software? Do you have a link for it and what version of Windows Mobile is it?
