As previously mentioned under and unlocking topic, I am very soon to be rid of Vodafone.
I have a shiny new V1620 as they call it and I'm O2 bound.
Is it at all possible to simply update my device with the latest O2 compatible ROMs etcetera or would this just plain not work?
Also, does anyone else have the exact model I do as listed below, as I haven't read any topics about this specific model ID.
Thanks in advance guys.

i hope i can upgrade already my rom !
thks for your answers
if i'm not wrong, the PH10A appears to be the T Mobile MDAII if i'm not wrong ?
Dear All, my name is Carlo from Rome, Italy.
I just got an O2 XDA II (O2 UK version i think) second hand off a local italian forum member (www.telefonino.net).
Cool unit I already love it !!! ;-)
I currently have:
ROM VERSION 1.60.00WW
ROM date: 12/03/03
Radio version: 1.10.00
Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version: 1.60.50
I live in Italy where we do not have O2 carrier.
Right now i can use this unit with my italian carrier TIM (Telecom italia). No problem !!!
It works ok with both phone calls and GPRS connections (just finishind doing tests).
Now...
My question is...
I'd like to upgrade this O2 XDA II to a newer version of OS such as:
1.72.187 (for permanent GPRS connection and voice calls at the same time right???)
.. or 1.72.181 (for testing Blackberry connectivity which i think it will never work due to carrier restrictions in Italy).
.. what would happend?? Would my unit become locked again to O2 carrier ???
Or ..?? What are other possible problems ??
Which version would you reccomend among the above two ??
I need a link to download version 1.72.187. Cannot find it anymore on to www.sourceo2.com.
Before doing anything stupid i ask you since you all seem to be quite aware of the necessary steps involved with the upgrade/downgrade of O2 XDAs.
I don't know the history of my unit.. i do not know if it was locked to O2 UK or not... no idea... as i said i got it second hand.
I have also already downloaded the unlock tools just in case i need them in the future.
Thanks in advance for your kind help.

changing rom dont lock the phone
Hi there
Does anyone know if the Vodafone 1620 PDA is exactly the same as the Qtek 9090
If it is what is the latest ROM upgrade, please ?
Lastly my i-mate Pocket PC [another PDA] fell into some water and I now need a complete new screen and the back of case [not the battery cover] has been cracked, does anyone know where I can purchase the parts for this PDA, please ?
ps.s getting back to my new Vodafone 1620 pda the ROM version that the telephone currently has is :-
ROM 1.31.00 WWE
ROM date 12/13/04
Radio Version 1.12.00
Protocal Version 1337.42
ExtROM Version 1.31.175 WWE
It is presumably a locked model because Vodafone supplied it in a Vodafone Branded box !
Regards
Charles

Re: Update of blueangel on 02 xda2s
I am thinking of re-flashing my xda2s which is on the o2 network but is unlocked on all four thanks to the tool on wiki. since it is an o2 phone, can i use the update provided by t-mobile namely: BA_TMUK_14200_112_11300_Ship because it contains more programmes like clear vue pdf, ppt, album etc. which the o2 update does not have?
Which genuine update (from networks) is the latest one does anybody know and is it possible to install these updates from different networks. I tried updating using the o2 update but this didnt seem to solve my microphone and speaker not working sometimes, which can only be avoided by keeping my bluetooth on, also it lacks the extra software that t-mobile version offers which my friend has installed and includes programme like clear vue pdf, ppt, album, midlet manager etc. Isthere on 02 update that has all these software built in. Also i have noticed that my friends blueangel (MDA on t-mobile) runs faster and more smoother. which is the best original rom to install that could solve these probs.
The O2 update i installed was this one:
ROM version 1.40.00 WWE
Rom date: 03/10/05
Radio Version: 1.12.00
Ptotocol version: 1337.42
Thanks in advance.
Hi folks,
Newbie here. I have a HTC TyTN (Vodafone V1605) on the Vodafone Ireland network. I would really like to upgrade it to WM6 to use with my new Exchange Server 2007 and I have looked through a lot of these threads and I am experiencing a severe case of information overload
I also couldn’t find any information specifically related to performing an upgrade with a Vodafone Ireland device and I’m afraid of bricking my phone.
Could any of you more experienced members direct me to the information I need or give me some pointers?
Thanks
Ghilbert.

read the info in here relating to HARDSPL, I would also suggest SIM and CID unlock if you plan to change the radio version, do that before HARDSPL..

you should then be able to upgrade to any ROM you fancy. The ROMS themselves are typically non branded apart from where the CHEF has put some of their pickies in there.
dude any rom upgrade will be just that, a rom upgrade.the settings for vodafone etc will need to be updated manually later.
