Pocket Word Scrolling - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi there,
does anyone know of a way to force the hardware down button to scroll a full screen instead of a single line in Pocket Word?
I read alot of ebooks on my MDAIII and find it really frustrating that I can only scroll single lines with the hardware button. Currently, I have to use the onscreen sidebar to scroll which is difficult when I'm standing on a packed underground train!
My old iPAQ 3870 running WM2003 used to scroll a full page at a time, why oh why can't my MDA?
TIA,
Q.

D-Pad SIP coming! - No Cab Yet -- Need Suggestions

All... I will be staring development of a D-Pad SIP for free release on this board in the next week... I will release as soon as I have something that is functional. Here are the initial features... please use this space to suggest others...
Four (Top,bottom, right left) buttons plus optional center
Special zone button for switching to user defined standard keyboard
D-SIP Toggled via any assignable button sequence (will play well with apps like Mobile Magic)
user definable gestures support
I will add accepted features to this list above with a 'Phase' (e.g. planned for release 1,2 or eventually)

That seems to be a very nice Christmas gift! You will make many users of Touch HD very happy. Thanks for your effort.
One suggestion:
If possible I would like to get continuous signal and user defined repeat rate as well as user defined delay until repetition begins (just like hardware dpad can be calibrated via settings).
Thanks in advance.
Hmm, it will be hard to enable it in applications wich doesnt support SIP's such as games
Maybe it is possible to run a application in a "640x480"px Frame and to use the 160pixel at the bottom for a D-Pad...
Would be nics to add in a rotation button, I don't like how gsen and gyrator mess up my screen when I don't want it to. Also Might come in handy a clear 4 way pad to be use ingame, left or right of the screen, maybe that is a little too much to ask for?

My hope is to add a option to force a 640x480 resolution for "configured" applications and then use the freed 160px for the D-Pad... in non-configured apps it would function like any other SIP. Still researching my approach
consider adding the buttons for Cut Copy and Paste
sounds like a great idea! hope it works
The 2 hardware keys (left and right) for the selection of the soft menus are a must!
I am a bit confused maybe due to lack of my knowledge of exactly what configuration this new SIP will carry. My confusion is because if you happen to see the Cootek TouchPal it already has a tab which gives you navigation options such as top, bottom, left, Right, select, cut and copy.
How is your SIP going to be different from TouchPal.

I guess the goal of this SIP is to be available in all applications (e.g. games) that usually depend on some hardware buttons to be playable and not just the ones that activate a SIP for input by default like SMS, Email etc.
One suggestion would be to have 8 directions on the virtual pad. On a real dpad you can press 2 directions simultaneously (useful in games) however the resistive screen means that there would only be one key press at a time.
Sorry for my ignorance...i am very new to WinMo phone.
Can anyone tell me what is SIP and how it is going to work?
By the way there is a software called AEBplus which can configured the hardware Vol up/down for HD, is it going to be similiar?

As the most games I know use their own keyboard implementation, a SIP won't work for them. SIP will just for most applications, rather the ones, where you see the "keyboard icon" in the bottom, where you can change the keyboard and make some settings.
Looking forward to it
I think a good starting point could be to create a full screen application (a sort of container) with a sidebar implementing the Dpad that emulates an hardware pad + some buttons and a 'window' 640x480px where other applications can run.
In this mode it should be possible to generate the standard Windows messages when a soft-key is hit so that the windowed application could be fooled thinking that the user is acting on a true Dpad/key.
Bye
So it will work with for example pocket gba emulator ?

Something like this allready exist, google MorphGear
it will work with PPC Games better than GBA
any news on this project?
Same question here. I am waiting for this as the most important thing for Touch HD on this forum. I want arrow keys in my age of empires to move map
By the way : If you can, you should do that virtual pad fully configurable, like morphgear has (text file with functions and color numbers and bmp picture with those colors on certain places + copy of that but in colors that will be displayed)
I'm still experimenting with various approaches... unfortunately it seems like the most viable approach will involve the four softkeys at the bottom of the device... everything else I try only works when I can force a SIP to be present and unfortunately it seems that the times I want a D-Pad SIP the most are the apps that make this difficult... BTW... if anyone has a code sample for reassigning the HomeKey send me a PM please. For now all I can say is please continue to have patience... I'm still working on making a solution available

select copy drag past

Who's going to help me.
In the Dutch windows version Its not possible to slect text with the stylus and then copy past or drag it to another part of the screen.
Not even in word....
Is their an setting or a reg tweak?
All other pda's are capable of doing this exept for the Rhodium (tuch pro 2)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
by the way. Its a striped down version of the Touch pro.

They riped of:
-the radio
-MP3 Trimmer
-zip
-the flash light
- drag copy past
-the one finger control wheel
-voice tags
-voice recorder
so I'm not very pleased with the Pro2

In which app? In threaded sms you just have to tap and hold a little longer before you drag the cursor. In email, the same, if you want to be easier you can point to menu - select text first. In opera just point, hold until pop up menu, choose text selection on. Just remember to revert to text selection off afterwards or it may get in the way when you intend to default mode of touchflo,i.e: scroll.
Juz fyi that i reply your thread on my TP2, select, copy, cut, all the way

Please CMIIW, rip is when someone steal from you, or lie before selling, right? Now i never stumble upon any features mentioned before i buy my TP2
And actually from list you mentioned, only flash light and scroll wheel not available. The others are only problem for you to SEARCH and LEARN.
G'luck, buddy!
You have to toggle on "Select Text" mode if you want to select text by dragging in the Messaging app.
In Word, you can just do it. Drag with the stylus or your finger nail. If you drag with your finger, you will just scroll.
TAP Select Drag paste - Help with win 6pro bug -
It's in all the programs and applications.
its not the cursor but the text
for instance Word. Its not possible to tap, drag and select text.
Please note. I used several PDA's before the Touch pro 2. All of them had a windows version allouwing me to select text with the stylus.
The pro 2 doen'st have the possibillity.
It must be a Windows bug.
for instance the agenda. If I want to move a appointment several hours I did it with the stylus. Tap hold and move.
On the aganda of the pro 2 the entyre screen moves. You cant move a singel appointment.
WhO......... gana help me out.
When in a message, click 'Menu', 'Select Text' and you will be able to select the text you require.
I must admit that this does appear to be a step backwards. I was quite happy with the way the TyTnII handled it where by you had to leave the stylus down for a few moments and then drag to select anything.
Unfortunatly, with this new method, there are some things that simply are not possible. Like, for example, dragging and dropping appointments in Calendar, dragging and dropping files in Explorer etc.
I would happily go back to the old method if possible...

Dude, stop panicking. Your spelling, grammer, and sentence structures are all messed up!
I've answered your query on how to tap&drag to select text in MS Word in the above post.

I agree with that. This is not an issue at all. It works fine. The reason you have to hold longer is because it makes slide switching much faster. e.g going to the next or previous emails etc...

I understand Phones frustration, although I'm maybe dealing with it a little better!
Just to give 2 examples where I see issues with this new method...
1) In File Explorer you cannot select multiple files using finger or stylus. In fact, I can't even see the option to 'Select Several' like you have in Email/SMS.
2) When in an application that does support 'Select Several' it's not as easy as it was previously to select lots. For example, I could highlight and scroll at the same time before. I then used 'Ctrl' on the soft keyboard to the select another lot.
In general, I understand why it has been applied, to make finger control easier, however, I prefer the older version.

In the default File Explorer (and in most other apps including Messaging), you can hold the Ctrl key on the hardware keyboard and then tap the items you want to select. Alternatively, if the objects you want selected are in order, you can use the Shift key.
Btw, Resco File Explorer supports dragging to select items. Just wanted to throw that out there as an alternative you may consider.

Creating a shortcut to tab-button and others?

Hi!
They removed the tab-button (at least on the swedish keyboard) which I use frequently. I can´t find it in the virtual keyboard either. How do I create a hardware keyboard shortcut?
There are some other shortcuts I would like to create as well (to calender and maybe more).
Please be concrete, I don´t know how to change registry and such.
/Derik
Anybody have an idea?
The D-pad buttons act sort of like the tab button. Press the desired direction followed by the enter button to activate the filed you wish you had tabbed to.
haha

Where are the D-pad buttons on TP2? Did I miss something?
Did you mean the directional keys?
The things is that I use it within Worddocuments to make indentations (Swedish: indrag) in the text with with list bullets. So I really need a tab-button.
I´m just reviveving the thread again.
There must be some way to be able to use a tab-function? All the hightech here... It´s essential in my writing, which is the main reason I have the TP2.

mapping the "ok" button is driving me crazy! FOUND SOLUTION!!

hey people, i've been searching for over two hours on how to map the "ok" button to do what it normally does...
i'm on energy rom right now, with everything necessary installed to map keys on my att tilt 2.
what action do i map the "ok" key to?
i've searched and:
i cant find "back to previous screen"
if you map it as close window, and you click the windows key and the ok, the windows key no longer works
(forgot where i found that piece of advice)
what do i do?!
and sorry if its been answered many times, i really cant find it!
EDIT:
FOUND THE SOLUTION, at the bottom of the page. WORKS FLAWLESSLY!
Funnily enough I had to search to see what you were talking about. I assume the OK key on the keyboard.
I can only guess the best mapping would be to the OK in the upper right hand of menus for programs.
What ok button? A hardware button or a software button?
on the att tilt2 theres an "ok" button between shift and home on the keyboard.
i dont know what to map the button to in order for it to work like it supposed to in the original rom and i cant find the solution anywhere.
Bottom row from left to right:
Tilt2: shift, OK, Home, comma (mail), space
TP2: FN, Mail, SMS, comma (SYM), space
Sorry, don't think that there is a solution for mapping the OK button yet. The best you can do is to map it to minimize the current window. This is one of the reasons why I'm switching to RRE's rom, as it includes the AT&T keyboard dll. I use text/email a lot with the keyboard out and want to be able to use the ok to close the message and go back to the message list. You can only do that if the original OK functionality is present.
best bet is to use this program to do so...works great!!

install and use to map the "ok" key as "ok/close"
works like a charm! thanks for all the advice anyway guys!

Verizon TP2 - Selecting Text Issues

Hey gang,
I'm driving a Verizon TP2 with the standard ROM, TouchFLO 3D 2.1.38420.2 out of the box with WinMo 6.1. I'm still fairly new to WinMo and the TP2 and am having some frustration with selecting text, mainly with trying to select text that extends beyond the visible screen. I can select text that's on the screen easily enough, but when the text I want to select extends either above or below what's visible on the screen, I can't figure out how to get that extra bit of text.
For example, let's say I go into a sent email that has four total paragraphs of text, the first two of which are completely visible on the screen. I need to select and copy the first three paragraphs only. I can easily select the first two visible paragraphs, but I can't figure out how to scroll down and continue getting that third paragraph.
I've tried with my fingers and the stylus, with no luck. Once I have the visible text selected, if I scroll down with the scroll bar to get the text below, once I click on the text it deselects. I've also tried getting the screen to auto-scroll with the stylus as I'm selecting text, by keeping the stylus down at the bottom - much like you would with your mouse pointer in Outlook/Word on your computer - but it won't scroll.
I've read posts about using the shift and arrow keys, but I can't seem to make that work either. Selecting all the text, then copy/pasting that over and deleting the extra works in some situations but not all. I need to be able to select exactly and only the text I need before copy/paste.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
-Stever
I believe you have to map the shift function to a key and then go from there. Or you could highlight the first part, copy paste, scroll down, highlight the second part, copy paste.
I'm looking for a thread where someone asked a similar question

I'm going to give Rhodium Keyboard Controller GSM/CDMA v1.4 a try and see if that helps.
That being said, am I seriously *not* doing something stupid here? Is there really no built-in function to continue scrolling as you're selecting text with WinMo 6.1? I've really been enjoying WinMo 6.1 on my TP2 over my previous Blackberry experiences (including old non-touch and the Storm), but this seems like an amazing oversight.
Anyone know if this is corrected/included in WinMo 6.5?
Are you in TF3D or the standard windows view? In TF3d I cannot highlight any part of the message, I can only scroll. When I opened windows view (click all messages in the txt tab) I was able to touch click (hold down on screen) > "Make Selection" > and then highlight as much text as needed. It works exactly like excel and word mobile. I'm on Mighty Mikes 6.5 sense 2.1 rom.

It may very well be a 6.1 vs 6.5 issue...I just confirmed that the problem exists on my T-mobile TP2 as well, stock 6.1 ROM.
I tried everything I could think of, with no luck...except for one thing: if you have the keyboard open when you start to select text, you can use the arrow keys to scroll up/down. Of course, it's not exactly easy to do that and hold the stylus on the screen, but if you're using your fingertips to select text, you might be able to get away with that.
