XDA 1 Upgrade... - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi people,
I'm about to attempt to upgrade my XDA to WM2003 FINAL.
Is there anything i should be aware of before attempting this, and also, is there anything i can do if it all goes *tits up*? I'm just a tiny bit sceptic about doing it, as i don't know enough about it, give me a desktop anyday, but a PDA, and i'm almost lost.
Thanks in advanced.

Ok here you go, its a little outdated but its what I still use:
Qman's how to use XDArit to write nk.nb1 or nk.nbf to your SD card aka the Bootloader Method!
1. Place XDArit and the nk.nb1 or nk.nbf file in the same folder and start XDArit.
2. Select your SD card (disk drive) from the drop down menu.
3. Select Write to SD
Notice that the Windows CE box is already checked so just click the browse button at the end of that window.
4. Select your (nk.nb1 or nk.nbf) image and then Open
Notice by default XDArit will open looking for a *.nb1 file but if you're going to use a .nbf file you'll have to manually change the "Files of Type" to *.nbf
Notice that nk.nbo / nk.nbo was automatically added as your boot-loader and its check box is unchecked so leave it that way and click OK. XDArit should start writing to the card.
When XDArit has finished writing the image put the SD-card into the XDA and hold the power button and soft reset. You'll be taken to the below screen:
SD DOWNLOAD
Card Type:
CE OS & BOOT
Press action to Download
Or
Press REC to Exit
Press action to download and it will start the download/restore from the SD card.
Follow the on screen instructions once its "Completed" which will consist of a "Soft Boot/Reset".
Click to collapse

if only i had an SD Card

Help with unlocking

Ok got a SD card and put on a new rom how can I make it load the info from th card. Also everytime I try and make a nbf file type it erros on me.
./mkrom.sh: ../../kitchen.local/mkrom-inc.sh: No such file or directoryno files for configid 26220739write xip block starting at 81800000, with 3 fileswrite xip block starting at 81980000, with 0 filesheader : No such file or directoryError creating new rom
I picked nb1 said was for flashing with SD card and can't get it to load.
What's your current ROM ? ... maybe all you need is to load the XDAunlock.exe tool http://www.xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/
Anyway, to use the SD the best way is to cook the ROM as EXE, then use WinRAR or Winzip to extract the NK file from the English subdirectory. Use XDAtools to move this file to the SD card using the device and activesync. Insert the SD in your device, if it will ask you to format press NO. Go to the bootloader menu (power + soft reset) it should recognize the SD content and will ask you to press Action.
PS: this is valid for bootloader 5.15 and 5.17

Can I install the latest MS Pocket PC on my XDA1??

Hi all
I have an XDA running Pocket PC 2002.
Is it possible for me to upgrade this or remove what's installed and install the latest Pocket PC op system?
I'm not sure which is the latest, I think PPC 2003?
What will I need to do this and is the procedure available?
Regards
JC

The 4.01.00 ENG version is here ftp://tmobile:[email protected]:21 ..
but be careful as it contains the upgrade for RSU and I 'm not sure
it supports 900/1800 or not since it's TMO upgrade.
If your device has no Radio problems (GSM),
my advice would be to down load the file, use Winzip or WinRAR to
extract the NK.nbf file which the ROM upgrade, put it on SD card and flash your XDA using the bootloader.
PS: if you are sure that your network is 1800 MHz then do NOT use R6.24 for RSU upgrade.
Good luck

Once you have programmed a card with xdatools or xdarit the phone will ask if you wish to format the card, ignore that and push reset while holding power button, this should prompt you to push action key to program new rom.
Thanks. Helped a lot. Itz working now.

How to flash an .nbh file correctly for Excalibur official...

I am trying to figure out how to flash a .nbh file correctly for my friends Dash. He has the T-Mobile dash 1.22.531.6, which oddly enough is not on the T-mobile wmupgrade site. Anyway, found the file here and it is a .nbh file. From how I understand doing research on flashing from an SD card.. It should be as simple as the following steps...
1. OPEN RUU_Excalibur.exe with an archiver and extract files to temporary directory (the file we want is the EXCAIMG*.nbh)
2. Format SD card using FAT32
3. Insert SD card into phone
4. Connect using ActiveSync
5. Rename nbh file to "EXCAIMG.nbh"
6. Copy EXCAIMG.nbh to SD card
7. Disconnect phone
8. Start Manual Bootloader (hold camera key for three seconds and press power button)
9. After quick messages (checking sd card, etc.) you should get "Update SD image? Press power button to download" screen with countdown in bottom corner
10. After timeout you will go to color bars UI
This was taken from the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293387
I just want to be sure that these are the correct steps for the T-Mobile 1.22.531.6 ROM update from the OFFICIAL ROM sticky...
Gave it a shot, but got a "Invalid Certificate" and stuck at tri-color screen. Luckily, did not brick it.. Any suggestions?
SD flash ONLY works with SIGNED nbh file that matches the Device. The nbh file you downloaded was not signed by HTC, it was "extracted from a phone". Currently there is no way to flash the TMO .6 rom, only the .4 from T-Mobile or use one of the other "Official" or "Cooked" roms. Also, SD Flash seems to have issues with the WM6 Roms, would not recommend. Instead of flashing new ROM if you want to keep the TMO .6 rom try doing a restore instead.
Ah ok, thanks for the information.

TomTom Problem

Hi i have this problem, everytime i turn off tomtom and turn it back on it always erases my recent destination. ANyway how to save it so that I do not have it input it in everytime i turn on tomtom? Does anyone have this problem?
Make sure the MapSettings.cfg or CurrentMap.cfg file (I cannot remember the file excact file name but it is one or the other) isn't set to read only by putting the memory card in a card reader and using Windows Explorer on the PC to view the Map folder contents, right click the file and select Properties, if the Read Only check box is selected uncheck it - Mike
