Hi,
I want to have a different ringtone for sms alert. Is it possible to do this? I can't stand the standard ones lol!
i've scoured the forums and can't find anything to help me...
Cheers
Rich
as far as i know you can only use .wav format audio....... if you have something you want to use, then copy the files into your /windows directory, dont put them in seperate folder, just into /windows
then when you select all your different sms alerts, you can see the files you placed in the directory , in the list to select.....
at the moment i have bo selecta sms alerts. lol
Yeah but how do I change the SMS tone. when I change the ringtone, the IIs only changes the Call Tone...
Its probably so obvious, but im not good at obvious!
Cheers
Richard
SMS tones are set in start-settings-sounds&Notifications-tab Notifications- drop down to messaging: New text message. If you copy a .wav file in your /Windows folder it appears in the list there and you can chose it. If you want to use mp3, get MortRing from this forum and use that. It is the only small program I know off that sets mp3 as ringtone.
I have been trying to set my SMS tone through the notifications option, but everytime an SMS comes in, it comes back to the default tone. Dont know why this happens!!!
Anyone knows whats wrong?

Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to (if possible) I can change the text message tone on the MDA Vario. I cannot stand it at the moment. Am I stuck with it for life?
go to start - settings - sounds and notifications - notifications and then choose the tone you want to change from the drop down bar... that should do the trick... *p.s. if you put mp3files on your storagecard, but not in a folder, just in the main folder, they'll appear in the list as well..

adding wav files for messages etc, they need to go in windows dir/folder.
mp3's for ringtones etc can go on the storage card root or storage card My Documents folder...

My Ringo won't work with Black 2.5 and I've go Profiles for Window Mobile 2.2.0
a little help pls
I was about to post the same. Here Ringo didn't work with the Black 2.5. In the "groups", just vibrate the phone, in the default, when the contact are out of the list, they rings with the windows default song.
Rickyjune, the Profiles for Windows Mobile 2.2.0 have groups for ringing tones? I didn't find it.
Any other program, that works on the WM6, for different rings and sms tones, to different categories?
Photo Contacts Pro - http://www.pocketx.net/products/photocontactspro_ppc/index.html
Gerald_s, thanks, but i'm looking for something smaller. Something pratical. PCP is to heavy to do a little like play songs to some people. BUT, if have no other way...
What's really nice about WM6 is that most of the function of Ringo is in the OS. I no longer use Ringo for that reason (well, it also crashed a lot).
I don't know if you can set ringers by category (I'd imagine so, but haven't looked into it yet), but you can assign them to people. Just edit a contact, and down towards the bottom is a field for Ringtone.
-Steve
Mcrochip, thanks. I look at that, but when you have a lot of contacts, assign a ringtone one-to-one is hard... But, its native, i'll look MORE on that function.
thats true... but you cannot select SMS ringtone or Call ringtone... only one ringtone for each contact... not very customizable..
SMS tones
I still cannot a small software just to assign sms tomes beside Photo contacts pro. Anyone can help..Thanks
Inesoft address book v 1.67
You might wants to try Inesoft address book software. You can assign caller ringtones but not sms tones. I try to upload the cab file but failed. Anyone can help, promth this message.
IAB167Wm5CrFallen.cab:
Upload of file failed.
hey pals...!! no ringo contenders? photocontacts is a good program but to bulky to perform only a ringtone assigment
thanks!
Is it possible to change the ringtone for an SMS message?
Here you go!
Yes go to settings tab and click all settings, look under sounds and notifications.
Click on noitifications and select New text messagesfrom top drop down box. Make sure ringtones are on root directory of sdcard. Click the drop down box above play and your ringtone should be in box
there you should be good
Thankyou
Thankyou it works
Glad to help
If by 'change the ringtone' you want to change it to one of the default supplied ones, do as above. If you want a customised .mp3 one, then you need to copy/paste the required ringtone in the Windows folder of the phone, otherwise it will not show up in the list.
or do a search for a program called electric ringo, that allows you to set mp3 for sms tones as well

Have you tried setting it as a ringtone within the music app? Then from there you might be able to choose it in the alarms and notifications?
make a folder on your SD card (the root of it) called "Notifications" and "Ringtones" then copy your ringtones into one and notifications (SMS and Alarms) into the other. Then they appear in the menus. I had to google about to find this myself!
Alternatively you can set it through the music application!
You need to create specific folders on the SD. I have alarms on the SD root for my alarm tone and notifications for my message tone!

/sdcard
/sdcard/Media
/sdcard/Media/Notifications
/sdcard/Media/Ringtones
/sdcard/Media/Alarms
That is how I have it setup so I only have one folder in the sdcard root for all of my alarms, notifications and ringtones.
Mine are set as...
/sdcard
/sdcard/Media
/sdcard/Notifications
/sdcard/Ringtones
/sdcard/Alarms
Thx, I will give it a go
Why can't they make things simple these days
SOrry to jump in, but cant someone just run over what i may be doing wrong.
On my SD Card i have the following folder setup :
sdcard/
sdcard/media
sdcard/media/audio
sdcard/media/notifications
sdcard/media/alarms
sdcard/media/ringtones
and within the notifications folder i have put an MP3.
BUT it doesnt show up in SETTINGS > SOUND & DISPLAY > NOTIFICATION SOUND
Nor does it show up in ChompSMS or SMSPopup.
I have alos tried to create the folders in the root, with no luck.
I know im beign blind, what am i missing.
Nice one, was wondering how to do this.
hot-fuzz I have the exact same set-up as you, works perfectly for me.
Have you tried with a different audio file?
Just download 'Ringdroid' from the marketplace and you can edit your mp3's in the fly and gives you the option to save as tone/notification etc..
OK, sorted it.
The file will only show up if i put ".mp3" at the end of the file, otherwise it doesnt show up.
Thanks for the headsup on Ringdroid, might give that a bash.
I had some problems but at last it is working with the format
sdcard/
sdcard/media
sdcard/media/audio
sdcard/media/notifications
sdcard/media/alarms
sdcard/media/ringtones
I noticed there was a similar layout in the phone's ROM
system/
system/media
system/media/audio
system/media/notifications
system/media/alarms
system/media/ringtones
system/media/ui
There was some Facebook mp4 file in that ringtones folder.
So I have a few customer ring tones that I transfered over from my EVO 4G. They are in the Mp3 format and I am able to set the ring tone on an individual level, but I cant set it as a default ringtone.
So how does one set a customer ringtone that is an MP3 as the default ringtone?
Notifications as while?
Much Obliged for all of your help in advance.
Go to settings, then sound. You'll be able to set phone ringtone as well as notification ringtone.
I should have said that I have already tried that. There is no option that lets me pick the sounds that are on my SD card.
For example when I go into my contacts list and go to ringtone, there is three options, Default Ringtone, Select sounds from My Files and Phone Ringtone.
Now when I go to Sounds it just gives me a bunch of generic sound files. Nothing from my selection.
you just move the sound file to the /media folder using any file manager app. Then it should show up in the list of sounds when you set your ringtone. The same steps can be done for notification sounds. If you're confused, there's plenty of youtube video tutorials showing you step by step information.
I do it this all the time, I create custom ringtones with Audacity (cut out the chorus and fade the track in and out so it sounds cleaner). Right now I have the Jetsons door bell as my notification sound
Just a wild guess that you didn't put your custom ringtones in the proper file location on your SD card.
You need to create a folder called "media" (no quotes). Inside that folder create a folder called "audio". Inside that folder create 3 separate folders called "alarms", "notifications" and "ringtones".
Place your custom ringtones in the ringtones folder, reboot (not sure if that's necessary) and your customs will show up.
.....
Thanks alot guys. That was exactly my problem, I did not have the media folder.
Wasn't exactly sure where it should have gone so I used ringdroid to create another Ringtone and it place the media folder along with the Ringtone folder on my SD card.
Always amazes me how simple a problem can be resolved if you have one price of information.
Thanks again. You are the best.

DO I have to have the same ringtones on all the folders so I can place custom ringtones in say text email etc..?
thanks
if not where are the text ringtones located at? I did a search by name and nothing came up though I have ring tones to choose from
thank you again
You can always download RINGDROID from the market. It lets you "trim" your mp3's and set them as default/contact ring tone or notification.
So far that is the best way I found to work in my phone.
