Hi!
I have a problem with my QTEK9090. From time to time when either myself or caller calls to my PPC we can not hear anything! When I try to call back immediately the same procedure occurs. The only thing that temporarily solves this is then I do a soft reset of PPC. Until next time.
I have upgraded from original version 1.12.00WWE to 1.22.00WWE and to 1.40.00WWE. I got a beta version from technical support for radioversion (1.13.10) but without any success. I also have got a new SIM card.
Any ideas?
i have the same problems, and the same sys op... and i had applied all patch...grrrrrrrr
Is your BT on? If not turn it on and leave it on.
good luck
Hi!
Thanks for your replies. I will leave the BT on today and check any differences. Have you had the same problem yourself?
Hi!
matrix70 which version are you running? Have you tried different versions? Have you tried to contact technical support or Telia for this problem?
i'm italian and i bought ba in greece. I just have upgraded with 1.40wwe version, applied all patch...but the proble still here...grrr..i discover that it's coming when i try to use ba in fastest mode.. switching from an application to another in a very fast mode, or trying to recall quickly a number that it's busy.
matrix70 from version did you upgrade from, do you remember?
same problem here, i did read in another thread that this is a known problem and can only be solved by moving to wm5.
I have radio version 1.06.02 and will move to 1.11.00 to try my luck
now i have update from 1.40 to 1.42 and the problem it's seem disappeared.... but with this version i can't sync my calendar....wath a lolling problem ....
I have run with BT on for some days and the phone problem is not occured once.
Great to here that problem with phone is solved in next version.
I remember there was a thread a few months ago I think. I had the same problem when I got my IIs last July, but I just turned off the BT and up to now theres no prob..... I havnt upgraded my version yet, I still use the 1.31 coz everythings working fine
Search the forums for Unidirectional Audio patch. This will fix the problem. But you probably do need the 1.40 series ROM.
im having the same issues, anyone know how to fix it up???
sometimes cant make or receive calls till i make soft reset.
thanks in advance.
im running rom 1.40.
couldn't find "Unidirectional Audio patch"
anyone have any idea where can i find it? and if its really fixing this annoy problem
thanks in advance.
Hi!
You can find the patch here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/PDA2k_UniDirectional_Patch.sa.cab). It didn't help me at all. I still have problem when BT has been activated nextcoming calls I still can't here or the caller can here anything. The only thing that have helped me, from a tip in this forum, is to always have BT activated.
Regards,
Fredrik
Thanks for the answering m8.
I actualy have been experimented these issue with bluetooth off...
just tryed with bluetooth actived all time and seems to be working.. anyway don't like this fix at all .. consuming extra batery to make the phone working properly is ridiculous
i will try out the fix anyway.
Thanks.
there was a pollon here about this a few months back and 76% of the users in this forum experienced this problem to some degree. Never found a proper fix.
how come manufacturer companies havent take notice yet? or iven the supplied the proper fix to this? is a very important issue...
other licenses than Qtek 9090 got the same issue??? pda2k? and the other clones???? know about it???
for the moment i have to say by enabling bluetooth all time as working well so far ...
Hi folks ...
I face this problem with the phone many times a day. I can confirm it happens each time there is a failed call attempt (you couldn't make the call) ... the only way is to switch off the phone and turn it on again.
I thought it's something with RSU 1.09.00 but it happens also after downgrading to 1.08.00 ... so I think it has to do with the new ROM. It tells the signal maybe unavailable while you can see it is on the max level.
Edit: last observation ... it can receive SMS :?:
Any one faced this experience ??

Ive noticed in your screen shot the active sync is trying to connect with the internet which will prevent you phone from making the call. To give a example .... if I was downloading a file using my universal and someone tried to call me they would get my mail instead of ringing as the phone is using the internet connection however as soon as the file downloaded the phone would break the internet connection and allow the call. Hope that made sense!
I thought the service is supposed to interrupt the download if the phone rings as the primary function of the device is a telephone and secondary as a mobile computing platform.

That's what I always thought but even with my trusty old imate jam I found if I got a call as I was downloading say mail the call would not make it though, try downloading a biggish file then ring your phone number at the same time I bet it will not make it This as ALWAYS been the case btw - don't matter which rom you have. oh and this applies to gsm (2.5 gprs) only as 3G is a totally different ball game!
thx for all inputs but it happens even without activesync running ... it doesn't work again except by switching the phone off then on ... the most exciting part: u will never notice that your phone is frozen till you try to make a call  ... this will make me to go back to the old rom
More observation on this issue ... I made a hard reset and started without any problems with the phone part ... I restored a system backup and all went well ... the phone issue appeared again when I paired my BT headset with the device ... this might mean something to do with the BT stack ... I believe it happens mostly during or after using the headset :?:
Any similar experiences ?

Same Problem Here... I was going to downgrade to 1.08.00, but now I may not... Don't want to lose the speed increase, so don't want to downgrade ROM...
back again ...
I made another hard reset and staretd without any s/w installed for a week .. the phone seemed to be stable but with the same annoying BT disconnect issue ... the above issue started to appear again after installing some phone related s/w like Smart Filter and PZP ... I think the new Radio ROMs starting with 1.08 have an issue with such applications that would continously check on phone traffic or have OS hooks to catch some events ... this wasn't the case with Radio 1.02 or 1.03 ... I 'm thinking to get back to 1.03 since I got nothing from 1.08 or 1.09 except quick battery draining!!
A few people have been having the same issue as me with more recent AKU3.* ROMs, wherein the radio features (GSM/UMTS,GPRS etc) - cease to function. Symptoms include the connectivity icons becoming non-responsive to stylus-press, and phone calls starting, but no call being made (silence) - and calls refusing to end.
This has been driving me nuts, and just when I think a new ROM (CE or Radio) has solved it, it re-appears. I have been playing around with everything I can to either diagnose, or solve this problem, and this is what I have found:
The phone only locks up, when handover between GSM and UMTS has occurred several times. I use the Hutchison 3 network in .au, and the coverage in Sydney is a bit spotty - hence the frequent handover to 'Roaming', and back again. Now that I have disabled the GSM functionality (i.e. just use UMTS, in the 'band' menu in 'Phone' settings) - I haven't had a single phone lockup.
To the other people having this issue: does this pattern of use sound familiar? I.e. is your main carrier UMTS, roaming to GSM? I'd like some feedback to see if we can isolate this, or if this solution works for other people
Hey
Had this problem many times with all kind of roms.
Usually the icons would react to clicks, but internet wouldn't work and also calling.
When I would turn on flight mode, the right icon (your reception) would change and gets a little cross (telling its disabled). But the left one would still be stuck on G/U as connected. It would take a min or 2 before it finally updates to a little cross saying its disabled. Then I can disable flight mode again and the phone would work (most of the time)
I live around 70 km from my work and I drive back and fort every day. In the car my universal is in the charger and I have always live messenger connected and AS for email.
during this trip my reception is lost twice, besides that it switches a couple of times from Umts to Gprs.
I've updated my phone to 1.14 radio en helmi 3.5 aku rom. And have experienced a couple of times what you discribed. The 3G and G/U icons wouldn't react to the stylus and the phone seems to be stuck. The device itself still works. But I have to soft reset to get it going again.
So after reading your story I can say this scenario refers to my experience.
I'm gonna try your solution from off today and let you know
I have only GPRS here and this problem happens to me with all AKU3.x versions even with different radios (1.09 -> 1.14.10) ... I still believe it has nothing to do with ONLY hand-over ... I reverted back to AKU2 and it never happened since then
Same here....
I have similar experiences with UMTS and GSM handover issues. I observed that sticking to one band (in my case GSM since it is more prevalent than the other in countries I go to!) is the way to go. When in M1, I got dropped problematic calls and my SMS were delayed but when I stuck to GSM only then everything was back to normal. I have been trying out the new Radio Rom 1.14.10 with Helmi AKU3.5 for 3 days now and am not having handover issues! Could be the Radio Rom or the Rom itself but if it acts up again then I know what to do then! Hope this helps!!!
The problem is in rilgsm.dll file.
I can tell that it is solved in crossbow.

would replacing the file in the current aku3 roms with an older one fix it?
i myself dont have the problem but allot of 3.2 wizard testers do.
Good to know, that I'm not the only one with this problem. I have seen this behaviour in all ROMs, not just the AKU3 and can confirm that it iseems to be related to the switchover between UMTS and GSM.
It also only seems to happen only when you have the internet connection open, which will always be the case when you use push-mail.
I had similar problems with the MDA III, whish I used before. Maybe it will get fixed in Crossbow - but by then we'll likely all have new phones.
^^
My internet connection is also always active. I have now switched from AUTO network to WCDMA (umts).
Going to see if this helps. After that I'll try the GSM band to see if it makes a difference
But it's something my device always had problems with, so I guess it's ROM independent
I'd like to see if that rilgsm.dll can be re-used. Unfortunately, the coverage of UMTS in the area where I live is far too spotty to be comfortable with pinning the radio band to UMTS.
However, I'm interested in your thoughts.
I must say that I agree with biso007. This problem started to occur when I upgraded to AKU3 roms. Before, I was on AKU2 with the exact same radio rom (I didn't flash it!) and never had any issue. Combined with mamaichs comment that it is related to a DLL file, I would say that the problem is indeed not related to a radio-ROM but to the AKU ROM.
Just my 2 cents....
I had same problems with Radio lockups on my UNIVERSAL. I've tried different ROMs with no luck. BUT after changing my Radio rom back to latest from T-mobile (1.10.03) everything back to normal- all day driving with GPRS on - no lockups at all!!! 100% solution is..... use old radio rom.
Would not mind downgrading...
I have lockup issues as well... if this really helps, I will downgrade the Radio ROM without hesitation. Where can I find thsi Radio ROM; is it on the xda-dev FTP site?
Thanks,
-Ireneus
Hi All!
Yes, this issue is the most annoying among all other issues, and it makes UNI impossible to use as the phone for business communications.
I confirm that lockup issue existed on EACH radio version I used and on EVERY ROM version.
I don't think this issue is caused by the GSM Band switch or Internet connection active or anything else specific, because this lockup happend even on networks with no 3G at all and no internet connection active and also BT and WiFi off.
It happens when I start intensivelly use my UNI for calls, sms, open contacts, view appointments (note: No 3-d party software at all).
I also mentioned that the issue happens more often with the battery level below 50% or so and almost rarelly happen on external power.
Another "good news" here is that if you receive an SMS during that intensive operations, you will permanently lose it after the phone lock up.
Thank you,
Dmitry.
I wonder is this is just a Universal issue? Or do other devices have the same issues; I mean as frequently as on the UNI.
If it is just the UNI than indeed it is useless as a phone and nothing more than a beeping, brick with a nice VGA screen. I basically fidn it hard to believe that this is the case and I would like to know if there is anyone out there, who does not have lock-up issues with the UNI and I would also like to know from the people who are testing Crossbow if the lock-ups still happen?
All input appreciated.

The problem is one of the most annoying ones you can have: it appears only from time to time and you don't know when and even when it does you don't notice.
Simply my phone is not accessible for others even it shows full range and so on. The message "...the phone is switched off...". This problem occurs in as far as I remember 3 releases of ROMS (full, vanillas, etc). The radio ROM was also changed. I don't remember having such issue in early WM6 or in original 2005.
Since it's not related directly to any of the releases I post it as a new thread.
Now I have 3 options:
1. Downgrade to 2005
2. Throw the unit through the window, wait until end of contract and buy an iPhone
3. Try to fight with T-Mobile UK - which is not really an option since I just recovered from fighting with Orange for over a month
Does any of you experienced such problem?
Any known issues with downgrading to 2005 like ISPL required before flashing original ROM?
Any suggestions?

Well, I got the answer - couldn't wait and did the downgrade using original ROM. If anyone interested it went without problems. No ISPL needed. Connected, fired-up the exe file and worked OK.
I'll see how about the availability problem.
Ok, seems that it's only me having the conversation ;o)
I apologize for the thread location - it doesn't seem to be related strictly to WM6 anymore as I...
...installed WM5 and did some tests:
(I have voice mail switched off)
- Call waiting enabled = no calls allowed when GPRS active
- Call waiting disabled = no calls when transferring data (large file) but received when no transfer
- Used W660i SonyEricsson handset - could receive calls regardless of GPRS activity
Rang T-Mobile tech support where they told me that this is network feature that when internet connection is active no calls are allowed and since my voicemail is turned off all callers get message that my phone is switched off. In the light of GPRS specification and my tests this is a bull****.
Now I'm asking anyone on UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk and who wants to help - please do such test. Just try to call your number from different phone when opening a web-page.
This is pretty important to me - I need internet on the move and don't want to get rid of my MDA.
Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
I'm on T-Mobile UK too and I ran some tests myself and found that you are absolutely correct. When you transfer data you cannot receive phone calls.
I've got an O2 device with me I can do some more tests on and I'll also try and borrow my Wife's Samsung and test that too. I'll post my findings here.
Cheers
Alex
ok, i've just tested this on an O2 3G device and there was no problem, next to try a none windows mobile t-mobile phone.
seems this problem has been around for while and on other networks.
http://www.freenfo.net/mobile/archive/index-t-64022.html
ok, final test and conclusion.
I tested the same o2 phone as above but in a NON 3g area (i.e. gprs only) and found the exact same issue.
conclusion: this seems to affect all types of phone and multiple networks but only when using gprs NOT 3g.
I'm suprised we havent heard more about this problem.
cheers
Alex
Thank you Alex very much for your help.
I did some research on the topic last night and found the same info as guys in the thread your linked. It must be that T-Mobile UK operates in NOM-2, which allows to suspend GPRS session only when no data is transferred. When packets are transmitted the device doesn't 'see' incoming calls as it's 'busy' with dealing with the packets. NOM-1 is 'able' to encapsulate information about incoming call into one of the packets and the device is notified about - so it can react, suspend the transmission and pick up the call.
The fact is that our MDA/Artemis uses Class B of GPRS which doesn't allow simultaneous CDA/GPRS at the same time. Even if it can suspend active data transfer it is the network that has to support that feature.
What I must notice is that I had lot more problems wiht this when I was using WM6. It seems that there were some packets transmitted by the system or something. I had my mail set to check servers every 15 mins at the beginning but lately ony once an hour or two. Other soft that could transmit anything was Weather module from SPB or Touch. Now when I'm on WM5 and was checking the issue during loading a page I was unavailable but as soon as a page was completely loaded my phone was accessible back.
My surprise is that if the 'issue' seems to be quite normal and there is nothing to do about it why I couldn't find any info about it here. Doesn't it affect anyone of our community?
I may be wrong with the WM6 expirience but still. If WM6 works fine in that respect it must have happened that someone missed a call when browsing the net.
i hadnt noticed to be honest

Did you try ringing your phone when it was loading a long page or downloading a file?
TBH I think I've noticed it just as much on WM6 as I did (or didn't) on WM5, I think I put these odd voice mails turning up down to weird WM issues! Now I know the truth though.
Obv. there isn't a lot we can do about this and I'm not prepared to turn off my Windows Live Mail or my direct push. I think we just have to wait until our contracts are up for renewal and get over to a 3G device - I'm liking the look of the Touch Cruise myself, or the Touch Dual if I want that keyboard back and by the time my contract is up I think they should be on T-Mob UK.
does the same thing happen in Edge areas or as that rolls out will the problem disappear?
I'm not sure about how EDGE works but the problem affects GPRS rather than 3G due to the fact that GPRS and the incoming call are submitted alongside each other and 3G is seperate. I don't think t-mob uk have edge running yet so I can't test, perhpas some else can test for us.
Bro.. My first 3rd party ROM is the Touch 3.0.. and yes.. my connnection did go off once a while (no bars as well).. that was kinda irritating. I have to go to connection manager and toggle my data connection or something like that, before my phone will get the GSM signal.
And yea.. the original WM5 and WM6 have no such issues.. I wonder if this is because of the new radio version..
Hi guys, I have a strange problem.
Sometimes when I try to call someone, the phone cuts off the connection right before it should vibrate to signal that the phone was answered. This means I can hear the other side picking the phone up, but I hear like "H" (sharp, short) when they try to say "hello". No matter whether I have phone by my ear or laying on the table, sometimes it cuts off, other times it doesn't. When I make the call again, it works.
This started to happening to me since I've updated my sw version to 1.21, when it was 1.15, it worked like a charm. For the last 4 days I tried to make 3 calls, every one of them was cut out and worked on the second try.
Anyone has the same problem/knows the solution?
Thank you very much, It's annoying as hell since every call costs me twice
EDIT: I'm using stock ROM, updated with OTA, no root

desire drops calls after a few seconds
Hi!
I've the same problem, since today - very annoying. All start with a call from a friend and after I said "hello" the call ends, but network connection was fine (4 bars). After that I tried to call him back 10 times, every time the same thing - call drops after 1-3 seconds.
A Reboot solved the problem for one time, next call same issue. Tried my sim in the HTC Wildfire of my colleague - same network, everything is fine.
Now I started to uninstall all Taskkiller and other apps i recently added - no change. After 30 min try and error I realised that if I turn of the "Mobile Internet" and therefore the 3g connection, it works better.
anyone have a clue what this could cause?
Joint the club.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712030
Mine does exactly the same thing... first of all I thought it was the phone... returned it... new phone, different sim.... same problem.
Geeba have you tried to turn off "mobile internet"?
After my problems yesterday I turned it off and since that no call was dropped!!
Maybe its some sort of concurrent use of 3g Network and the data threads kill the call ... actually I'm no expert in Mobile Networks.
I'm looking forward to Froyo and hope to get rid of the probs.
Minos - yes I have turned off the 3g - but I then have internet connection problems... pretty pointless having a smart phone that has no internet access..
But yes it does help... the Desire I think should be able to monitor the two signals and switch between them accordingly .... but it doesn't. my Mrs has the Hero... it doesn't suffer this problem so personally I think its a problem with the desire.... I'm going to wait till Froyo then if its no better there will be a nice unbranded black Desire gracing ebay!
had the same issue for a few days then i uninstalled juice defender and i havnt had a single dropped call after
I have had the same issue. And then I have read somewhere here what to do.
You must first enter the phone's debug menu: *#*#4636#*#*
Then Choose "Phone Info", scroll down to" Set preferred network type" and set this to GSM auto (PRL). For me it solved all the call drop problem. As you are on different network maybe some other setting will work for you but it might worth to take a try with it.
I am not exactly sure what this sets. One thing is sure I still have 3G and HSUPA connection - and all type of connection works like charm. So nothing changed just no more call drops since then.
benoke: Thanks for your idea, actually my Desire is now beying hospitalized as it had dust under the screen, anyway I reported dropping calls as an issue too while returning in warranty so we'll see what happens
i sent a support question to htc and got that answer:
"Thank you for contacting HTC. In regards to your question, I can help you with that. It does indeed sound like a hardware fault, I would be grateful if you would call our tech-suooprt team and let our agents arrange the return / repair of this device for you. If you could just call 0845 890 0079, we can arrange the collection. I trust that this resolves your query. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if required."
But I don't think its an HW issue.
@benoke: the GSM auto setting worked - four 1h now.
Minos: it is good to hear that it might work for you too. I have recommended it to some of my friends and they all say it works for them.. so it really seems like solution...
Try the new version 5.09x radio in the android development in desire forum to see if that miight help
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Haven't found a way to solve this issue yet. They told me at the service station that this is unrepairable issue occuring only with some SIM cards and that they would give me a refund.
I'm buying HTC Desire HD when it is available...
