I have bought the MDA Pro from T-Mobile. They have changed the phone-interface to a pretty ugly pink-gray branded t-mobile interface.
is there a chance to get rid of this without unlocking the phone?
does it vanisch by unlocking it?
any clue?
thanks!
dont know tmobile but if it's a today theme then you can just change it in system->today
and not the only thing unlock does is make it possible for people to use any sim in their phone unlocking dont change installed programs or settings
i have tried that already, but it seems as if the phone skin is locked by t-mobile somehow. i have already tried to upload different skins, but it always remains the same.
I suggest the phone skin is part of the t-mobile branding an can only be removed by unlocking the phone...
or by replacing it manually, but i have no clue how to do that.
if it's only the phone skin and not the pda skin then use the skin chooser here
http://www.yorch.net/apps.htm
if it's the whole pda then you can
1 remove the today items from tmobile
in the 2th tab in system today items
2 remove any tmobile ref from the \windows\startup dir
Hi !
Can you please tell me if the size of the "Z" key is the same as the "Y" key. I want a german version but i want to switch the letters afterwards.
Thanks.
to decebal:
yes the buttons have the same size.
to Rudegar:
I have already tried to change the skin with skin chooser 7 and
some other programs (have forgotten their names) but as i I "activate" or "applie" the new skin it always shows the phone with its old t-mobile skin. Nothing happens....
It is also impossible to remove the today theme, because the delete button is not clickable and i cannot finde the *.tsk file anywhere.
there is also no startup.dir or any file/folder that sounds like im on the right way.
At least I have now found (i think so) some of the *.pngs containig the button grafics. i will try to replace them with my own buttons...
They are in the windows folder called indialer_xxx
(e.g.: indialer_ps.png)
If there are any better suggestions i am very happy, otherwise i will have to change each button by hand (sounds a bit cheesy)
we will see if that may work.
hehe...should have thought about that before....the phone images are *.bmps, so i was able to change them manually with photoshop, but i can't upload them because the files are protected (or still in use by the phone in background). so now I have very cool buttons, but the only thing I can do with them is pin them on my wall
so there must be another more professional way, but I have no idea wich.
maybe you have some suggestions...
sometimes you need to softreset your phone after having used the skinchooser program maybe that helps
odd if you dont have a dir in the windows dir called startup
all pocketpc's i've seen have that
guess you could also unlock and unhide the external rom and remove the tmobile stuff you dont want
i've used that skin chooser device on both 2002 and 2003 but non of the later versions...
i would load another rom in it
I would if I could find out how this works on the new windows mobile 5.0...
if you know where I could find some reference for it it I would be greatful.
maybe its just to early to ask for such things, in a few month there will be lots of stuff in the net.
patience was never my strong side though.
how what works on 2005 ?
phone skin choosing ?
buzzdev.net is a good place to check out if you want 2005
if you install 2005 you will not see special odd tmobile colouring anymore
... but want to make some changes. Is someone who nows how to:
*remove the T-Mobile coloured dialer pad (phone pad) and changes the colours back to the original Windows Mobile colours
*remove the T-Mobile logo and put back the normal operator name. I am going to have the SIM unlocked, but he point is that even if I use Vodafone the operator name is the T-Mobile logo
If the above can be solved by not installing a part of the extended rom (but I do ot know what part), than please advise me. Maybe I have to change to the Qtek ROM when available. Can I just delete the extended ROM in WM5?
Hoogerhuis,
1: Hard reset your MDA Pro, reset it when it says that it starts installing the additional applications
2: Download the following file ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/mda_pro_eng_nl_extrom.zip, copy the contents to an SD card, and on your MDA PRO install all the cabs *except* TMO_NL_UI_0727_signed.CAB which contains the User Interface for T-Mobile.
** Do not launch the exe files or autorun.exe, or it will install everything out of the extended rom.
Actually I was wrong about the file that does the T-Mobile dialer skin etc. The file that should not be installed manually is:
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB,
(I justed tested and confirmed that myself
Wiz, many thanks. I indeed tested it myself also and saw which one was the problem. You could use the i-Mate jasjar version of that file, although I don't know what that file does besides changing the dialer skin.
Are you also Wiz at PocketPC-club.nl (now PocketInfo.nl)?
No, installing the Jasjar equivalent will not set it back to default. The Jasjar uses the standard WM5 dialer skin and therefore does nto need to customize it.
The Jasjar file only contains the Ringtone Player plugin, the T-Mobile one contains the Ringtone Player plugin + the TMO Dialer skin
I now have an internally unbranded MDA PRO. The only thing is that I miss the IntelliDialer and can not access the smartdialing options. What is the trick here ...
yeehaa! that's exactly what i was looking for!
This thread made me donate since i was looking for exactly this solution for so long!
I've already tried it and it works perfect.
now the only thing i still need is a today & dialer Theme (for the universal) that rocks (just like the halo theme - does anybody know where to get it?)
How did you get the MDA pro English? I just called them and they can't even say exactly when it will be available to buy here.
Cheers,
Joe
Hi guys,
next time: to remove dialer pads from brands: just change your register! or get some advancedconfig freeware. all done in a jiffy.
Greetings from the fats lane
C.
I just installed the customised dial pad .CAB and it looked rather lovely...
As far as the rest - plenty of into in these forums, just have a good search.

After some tricks at another thread, succeded to unlock Extended ROM.
However, can't find there the usuall 'Config.txt'. Is it normal? Any clue?
the wm5 extended rom's do not seem to use a config.txt file. They use the autorun and setup files. If you add something to the extended rom, put Default_ infront of the file name.
But the process I prefer; is to use an old autorun and config.txt file. I think you can find an example in the forum of BTT's extended rom under a thread called my extended rom. Or look on the xda ftp site.
The old way still works great. I also use the config.txt to copy some sounds and files to the windows directory from my sdcard during reset.
But back to the title of your thread:
I am finding that the new rom is faster and more stable. Radio 1.09.00 seems better. IE and gprs seems a lot faster. Of course, I only kept 4 of the files from the Extended rom. Lots of the cabs in the extended rom add bloat and/or remove/modify settings that I did not want. Push email seems to work, not sure I like the new comm manager. Really don''t like that I can not start the comm manager from keyboard after the rom upgrade. But overall its an improvement.
I wonder how different the official release from I-mate will be from this test version?
Please help I am always getting CONNECTION ERROR
The Update software starts fine, nonetheless after the screen where it shows the CURRENT and FUTURE ROM version, it is stuck
At least Extended ROM 1.13.151 WWE from Qtek9000, still uses Config.txt method.
Just Autorun.exe (fileversion 4.15.0.0) is present, and it seems equivalent to the Setup.exe (fileversion 4.16.0.0) on the new i-mate Rom. The Autorun.exe is much smaller and from a different origin.
Maybe this difference relates to, how Qtek and i-mate aproach the subject.
Another topic are my fellings/experiences with this new i-mate ROM, that I'd like to share with you guys.
ROM Version: 1.30.68 WWE
Errors or Lack of implementation
Still not possible to rotate Camera (landscape / portrait).
Universal backlight button still without effect.
Battery indicator replaced the clock on title bar. It is possible to re-activate the clock at settings (Clock & Alarms) to display in all programs, but however it does not work when at Today screen. :-(
Device Lock plugin is a nice feature, however the ability to make a few settings would be very welcomed. For instance 'Lock/Do no lock' buttons.
Despite it is possible to answer a call from BT headset, when device is locked, it is frustrating not being possible to initiate a call from BT headset ('Voice Speed Dial' not called). However it is possible to repeat last number called/dialed.
'Press' and 'Press&Hold' button associations (e.g. As assigned with PowerButtons from OmegaOne Battery Pack Pro), get easly misleaded. It seems internal timers are not workig properly.
My wishes
MS BT stack to implement sending extra info to 'Caller ID' enabled BT headsets. So they can show Contact name instead of caller number only.
Ability to tap handsfree icon at phone app, to toggle handsfree profile, instead of doing it through the menu (old 'profile' today plugin from WM2003, would be nice too).
Somehow allow Activesync to store Contacts PPC specific information, like associated ringtones (ringtone name should be enough) on PC Outlook Contacts. So the information could be later restored if needed, by synching.
Most of them seem to be MS issues, and nothig to do with HTC, Qtek, i-mate, etc...
Except for the first two, that I believe to be HTC issues in fact.

I cant Unlock the ExtROM, how did you do that?
Hope you back soon!
couldnt get MMS or a pop 3 to work.
WMP10 still plays 320/240 and fails to enlarge
Fn -> doesnt work....
of course the battery / clock on the today is one big screw up, but dont think this is an imate issue, more a MS issue
The new Comm Manager requires a full end task from task manager, not a simple stop. there is no help with Comm Manager, and no "intuitive" understanding as to what the other icons do.
No real additional functionality to the device overall in my view.
But much faster and who can therefore complain about the other stuff....
Actually, I think the Battery/Taskbar problem is an I-mate issue. NOT M$!!
o2 did that on their Blueangel. You have to remove the .dll the i-mate cab adds (by preventing it from installing in first place?) and edit registry to show the clock again
The comm manager is very self explanatory, so I have no idea what you are on about
I agree it has a few other problems, but at least the Uni is now a speedy lil devil and not sluggish

I would appreciate if you could tell me which dll to remove and what registry entry to modify. I owuld really like to get rid of the battery icon and see the date/time displayed instead.
Thanks

i've the same problem. I cant Unlock ExtRom!!!
No bluetooth STEREO.
And other minor problem...
I-MATE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
As anyone noticed pocket outlook now checks you email even when you leave it on a sms or mms account! No more worrying about changing the thing back to email after every text message! nice!
I wouldn't know which .dll it is unless I got a hold of the CAB file from the extended ROM. With o2 it was called batteryinfo.dll and was in the \Windows folder, but also had a few Registry entries to go with it. To add the Time in the taskbar have a look at the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
"TBOpt"=hex:12,00,00,00
Change 2 as follows:
0:blank, 1:time only, 2:date only, 3:date & time
However, I think this will only work once you remove the i-mate battery add-in.
Could you give me a complete Registry Dump of your Device? That way I may find the registry entry that causes the battery to be shown.
Thanks
The battery icon is a MS issue. I have nothing from the extended ROM installed and still have the battery icon. Don't waste your time looking for a fix in the extended ROM. There must be some registry setting that needs to be changed. I'm still looking too....
For those who can't unlock Extended ROM, read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42812&highlight=
Can't say exactly which sequence of actions made it possible, but it is working stable!
The main issue seems to be that Extended ROM folder, should have a name different of 'Extended_ROM' on registry.
I've used:
- 'Extended ROM' first and it didn't work
- than 'ExtROM' it worked
- and now 'Extended ROM' again. It's working!
At the it is even not needed to run the CAB to unlock. The registry tweaks are enough. Strange....

I'd be looking in the registry if someone gave me a dump of the registry like I asked. It is a I-mate Issue, because the Today plugin is not made by M$?
Here you have my registry dump.
Changing
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
"TBOpt"
to 3 for example, displays time&date, but overwritting battery icon.
Defenitely it is needed to disable battery icon on title bar, and force the time to display also when on Today screen.
My most new annoying experience...
Everytime I delete some files from ExtROM that I don't want to install at hardreset, they reappear again after a softreset.
Even powering the device down, and waitting more than 10secs, as seral times suggested in this forum.
Maybe a silly question, but any ideas to overcome this?

Did you run the extrom unlocker cab?
if not try running one of these uni unlockers and see if it works
Don't know if it is of any use but the .dll is called BattBar.dll and is located in the \Windows folder (at least I think that's what its called). Can you send me this file?

Be it MS or imate, the battery icon is not an Extended ROM issue. That should have been my point...
Is there way to use the native WM5 "Device Lock" function directly used by quickapp.exe? I would like to call it directly via path...
I know there are great addon execs allowing to lock the device for certain conditions like "Yet another device lock application" :?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45953&highlight=device+lock
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
m.
What do you want to do, lock by command line?
I think my old version, VJDeviceLock, does that. Just launch it from any launcher and it should lock.
On my website or here:

Hi vijay555,
Thank you for your reply! I am currently using VJDeviceLock
and forgot to mention it... Besides it works like a charm
I am just curious if there is a WM5 supported/possible command line way?
Reading the forum comments I guess not...
There probably is a way, programatically. I remember it can also be enabled by a certain keypress, although I forgot which one. I foudn this out with VJKeyPress
My Mio A701 comes with an app like VJDeviceLock that enables the lock in the same way. I'll have to reverse engineer it one day.

Thanks for your help...
Damn. Got a new test device Samsung SGH-i320 w. WM5. VJDeviceLock does not seem to work any longer: "Installation of vjdevicelock.cab was unsuccessful. The installation file is not intended for this device."
Hi vijay555,
Do you have any planned betas of VJDeviceLock / modified CAB. that runs on my Samsung WM5?
Thanks,
m.
muck3d: unfortunately I don't have access to the device, so can't develop specifically for it - although I would love to support it. If you know where there's a rom dump, that might get me started, but otherwise, I can't promise any time frame for now
If you feel competent to do a bit of (safe) system hacking, you might be able to help me get something working... PM me if you think you could help out.

Like many of you i am sure an attraction of this device was the GPS function.... now i was wondering does anyone know of a program that can use the GPS to record the longs and lats and dump them to an xml file when a button is pressed? For example i take a photo, it has a timestamp.... i then take the long/lat with this program and save it to an xml then when i get back i can link it all up and then plot it to a map where i was and what it looked like... Anyone? Or even an automated way to take a GPS location save it to an XML and link it to a photo for example.
But really what i want as a barebones is just away to press the screen and dump the location to a txt or an XML with a line or so of writing so i can link it to what i was doing or where a location is.
Anyone?
Would anyone find this useful or is it just me?
For GPS exif data take a look at the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292560http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292560
ok then that looks great howevs does anyone have a fix for making the minutes in lat and long differ? or have any info on a possible fix or another program?
Its the seconds that appear to be the issue, not the mins
strange though with the HTC Artemis P3300 it works fine but with the O2 XDA Orbit or the T-Mobile MDA C III it messes up, not found anything as yet to address this though - Mike

Check out the GPS Tuner website. http://www.gpstuner.com/
They also have a free program called "Map Calibrator" which I think does what you want.

Hmm i wonder can anyone extract the camera app and stettings etc of the P3300 to try it on the XDA/MDA?
And Mike you are right im sorry it is the seconds that are just coppied between each other.
I doubt the GPSTuner application can do this functionality, what we are talking about is embeding the Lat/ Long information directly in to a photograph taken with the onboard camera, its a nice application though all the same.
The GPS Software is the same on both the HTC P3300 and the MDA C-III (if you check the Exif info it lists them as 29.29.9.9 on either device - not got direct access to an O2 Orbit to check).
The Camera versions are the same but the Build number is different (24865 on the HTC P3300, and MDA C-III is Build 24724, will have to try "playing" around a bit more - Mike
If anyone wants to help, I've been putting together an application to fix this long/lat camera issue on the Artemis/Orbit
So far I have the following working
1. monitor a given folder on the device for new jpegs as they are created
2. query the satellites for the correct GPS long/lat values
3. update code to write to the EXIF GPS values for a given JPEG
I have a mixture of C# and C++ code, which I need to combine into a single application.
If anyone has C# or C++ skills and wants to help, then please PM me and I'll share what I have so far
I've also posted this here:

Ah that seems to be a great idea i will eargerly await any info on it.
I still hope that HTC fix this issue would be a great not to have to use additional applications.
