Hi there,
Firstly, let me say there's a bucket load of info in these forums - phew!
But on browsing, it seems there's an assumed level of knowledge on upgrading devices and I have no idea where to start.
I'm in Australia, have an XDA II on the Optus network (unlocked), device info:
ROM: 1.66.00WWE
ROM DATE: 02/20/04
RADIO: 1.08.00
PROTOCOL: 1337.18
EXTROM: 1.66.165
I'd like to upgrade to the latest Windows Mobile (2003 SE I think) but have no clue as to where to get the software, and what steps I need to take.
There's probably a guide or something somewhere here but I'm having troubles finding it and was wondering if there's a place for newbies to XDA modifications to go to try and learn what's involved.
Hoping someone could please assist me.
Thanks,
Pete

I have an Xda II (on the UK O2 network with data only) with the following details:
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM Date: 02/20/04
Radio version: 1.10.00
Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version: 1.66.209
I downloaded the tool to unlock the 02 Xda II directly to the Xda and ran the program. I got the message:
Start of rpair process...
Preparing modem...
Failed to send ATZ
As I downloaded the tool OK (and can browse the web etc) I guess the Internet connection is ok. I use GPRS.
Can anyone explain what has gone wrong?
I currently use Vodafone for my mobile phone and O2 for my Internet/email. I would like to use the Xda II for both on the Vodafone network.
Thanks for any advice.
Regards,
Chips
Did you try the other version of the xda2unlock that runs over usb, I have found that if one fails the other will often work.
I got the same "failed to send ATZ" when I used the program which runs the setup from the PC.
I directly copied the xda_unlockv2.2.exe to the XDA using active sync (pasted it into the pocket PC my documents folder on the PC and ran active sync, then used file explorer from "programs" on the XDA2 to find it), then ran the unlock program.
It worked a treat!
From looking at other posts, these symptoms appear to be occurring on XDAs with "Ext ROM version 1.66.209"
My Device info:
Rom Version 1.66.00WWE
Rom 02/20/04
RAdio Version 1.10.00
Protocol Version 1.66.209
Hope this info helps someone else
I'am new to all this and was wondering if its worth updating my XDA IIs these are the settings
Rom Version 1.31.00 WWE
Rom date 12/13/04
Radio Version 1.06.00
protocol version 1337.38
ExRpm Version 1.31.139 WWE
Could anyone let me know if there are any benefits, also how easy is it to update, ie can anyone explain in basic terms as I have never done this sort of thing before, also if it all went wrong what would be the worst case senario.
Is there a simple program that does all updates?
Thanks in advance
Hi Popupstands
I upgraded mine a few weeks ago from the O2 ROM like yours to the config detailed below. Have found that this ROM is a bit more stable and has better control over wi fi switching than my old one. still have the same old bluetooth connection problems. You will also have to modify the below EXTENDED ROM to replace the caller ID file with an older version to avoid GPRS disconnect problems...
before you do anything, you should read ALL the INFO at following wiki link
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
On a practical note, if you are reasonably happy with the stabilty of your device then the upgrade may not be worth it for you. I believe the official O2 rom update is imminent, so you may want to wait for that..
Hope that helps
Regards
Chris
I did check the wiki and did a search but it only confused me more.
I've had my XDA Exec around 7 or 8 months now I think, and I just updated it to 2.00.02 WWE.
Radio ROM: Should I update my current 1.09.00? If so, which is the latest or best? The Wiki said 1.13.00 was the latest however I have noticed some 1.14.xx in some people sigs. Is it worth updating?
Ext ROM: What is this? Currently do not have an ExtROM according to Device Information. Which one should I choose if any?
Protocol: 42.42.P8 is that good to stay with? Can it be updated? If so, again, help.
Like I said, I did search but only to confuse myself more and not come up with any answers. I couldn't find any info which really helped me.
Also, a side note, anyone know the settings for O2 (UK) GPRS/3G? The 2.00.02 WWE update lost them and stupid me never wrote them down. Admitedly I haven't checked O2's site but that is my next port of call, I just thought I would throw this out here too while I'm posting.
Hi guys, im new to the whole flashing scene and am not entirely sure whether it would be such a hot idea for me to do it. I know what i want, a touchflo rom with wm6. Problem being that i am in South Africa and im not sure if flashing etc will wipe/change my radio thus making it useless down here.
Can you guys advise me on whether i am likely to destroy my phone or not.
I have an imate kjam
ROM version: 2.16.9.1 WWE
ROM date: 2/6/06
Radio Version: 02.37.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.19
ExtRom version: 2.16.9.111
IPL/SPL: 2.16.0001
I see alot of different service providers, does that effect the rom? I am on MTN. I am not sure if it is a G3 or G4 but from the tutorial i read it seems to be a G4 as the ipl has 0001 at the end.
It would help my step into the flashing arena greatly if you guys could show me the right direction to head in... unfortunately i cant make head or tail of the threads, as soon as i get inspired i notice that its actually 2 years old and then i start panicking about whether it will work on a south african pda
Please help an enthusiast...
