I get this everytime I soft reset the phone (xda2s) I have searched forum after forum, but no real answer.
I also find this 0kb file in varying places "Ignore_my_docs"
have tried deleting it and have tried unistalling programs and reinstalling them to see if it is something left behind by previous installation of something.
PLEASE HELP guys
I am off to the States at the weekend and would rely heavily on my xda2s for comunication with family and work at home.. would prefer to sort out before I go if possible..

I am upgrading from a PPC2003 device to a WM5 device.
Does anyone one where the files relating to SMS text files both in and out are stored (presumably in the Windows directory somewhere) please as I would like to move them to the new device if possible.
Many thanks
Brian Leach
As far as I know they are stored in a database. And there are quite few (commercial) backup solutions available. But try to search the forum, I remember a small and free solution being posted here. (Btw: it's always good for the community if you post your solution here once found.)
I think I have a software which can backup SMS to move from old device to new device or from new version to new version.
I've tried, I sure that it works very well.
You will try it
Ahh! I forgot that, I have file .exe for installing from your computer. And other one to run direct
Many thanks.
I'll give them a try.

Tried both zip files and neither will run under xp
Should they be run from the device or what am I doing wrong please.
Thanks

Hi all, i have problem with extrom. I cant find solution for long time. I would like use extrom as normal disk, that means i would like to install programs on it and modify files on it.
I normaly do it, but big problem is after reset, when my files are replaced by original files from ext rom.
I tried many roms a same like dopod 900 aku 2.6 dont do it(after reset my files staied ext rom). I dont know where is the problem, mayby somehere in registry.
I dont know, where is original files backup. because i delete all files from extrom and tried find some of them in windows directory,no was there. But after soft reset original files are still here.
Please help
I would like to second the motion for this request. I do so with the full understanding that this question is already discussed in the forum. However, the threads are soooo long and contain information that is often conflicting. I have already followed along and tried several different methods of effecting this exact result. In the end, I have the EXT ROM area visible, but I cannot rid it of the O2 files and open it for use like the iPAQ File Store I used to have in my previous device.
Again, I apologize for requesting this information that already exists, but a definitive How To would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration...and more importantly, all of the hard work put into the site!
you need to both UNHIDE (make it visable) and UNLOCK it...that is you need 2 cabs to do this
Thank you; I understand that I need to both unhide and unlock this area. I have attempted this several times in several ways with several tools/executables...
good, now is ok. Before i used only extunhider. Now i run ext rom unlocker and it is ok
My goal is to reach in too my windows folder and delete all the unnecessary file copied to my windows directory....I was just wondering if I could remove the rom and read only properties of the folder!!!
I guess no one wants to offer me any guidance then......If this is information u wish to not make publicaly available can someone please pm me to point me in the right direction
If the files are in the ROM, there is no way of deleting them. Else, you can try Total Commander to do the job you mentioned.
Your best bet is to edit the ROM before it goes onto your phone.
I'd suggest either Pandora (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316881) or Core Pro (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309701&highlight=core+pro) as your best starting points.
Anything with the propery of being 'in ROM' will still be uneditable though, so any files wich you can't avoid having to install will remain 'locked' (although, by definition, any files you absolutely can't avoid having shouldn't be deleted anyway, if you see what I mean).
The whole problem is that even after installing all my programs to my storage it places tons of unneeded file in my windows folder....I Keep a tidy file system but windows folder has 103mb of data in it.....I finally have my device setup the way I like it after flashing a different rom everyother day...What options will total commander give me over resco explorer???
Total Commander won't give you any extra options, it's just that it is free compared to Resco. If you're really deadset on cleaning up your windows folder and want to keep your same setup that you have now, you need to "dump" the ROM and edit it on your PC. Look in the wiki under "Research and Technical Stuff" to find out how to do all that.
okay I guess I can try that even though that seems excessive.....is there anyway that when I cook a rom that I can remove the in rom status????
just watch what u do. some files u think are not needed are. best thing is to take a current rom and figure out what file belongs to what and delete whats not needed or cook a rom without the things u need. again pandora is a great option.
Not really, not as far as I know anyway. I'm pretty sure that anything which is there on first boot at the last moment before the OS starts to set the phone up is unremovable except by flashing.
The only other option I can think of is to unlock the EXTROM in case you've got some unnecessary apps being popped into Windows from it on first boot, cabs like ClearVue or suchlike extraneous stuff. If that's still being used when your hard reset your phone there may be a fair few meg you can prevent being nicked.
Thanks alot guy for the advice!!! I love this place I spend quite a bit of my time at work on here!! I will try the things above and see if they do the trick.....
I have the new 1.33 Brightpoint ROM installed. I was wondering if there was any way to remove the ClearVue Office programs from my phone? I was just going to use the Windows Mobile Office cab that I found on this forum.
FSame here for the latest HTC rom.
Possible Solution
I found the files but don't have access to delete them.
Shorcuts located in \Windows are named : "ClearVue <and 1 of the 3 apps>".
If you check the properties you'll notice that the executable for these are located in \Windows\WTCVDocV.exe (that's the DOC one for example).
Then after doing this (you should make sure just in case), you can delete the files. Mine were:
wtcvdocv.exe
wtcvpres.exe
wtcvwsv.exe
You probably have to remove the folder that's in the start menu also.
Anyone know how to get around the permissions issue?
As these files are would be located in ROM there is not much you can do. ROM uses a different storage format from conventional files that is set up when the ROM is built, so deleting them isn't really an option - maybe there is some way to hide them though.. Probably the best thing to do is to forget about them
Now that I found this again, maybe this clears the question up a bit:

Thanks for the info!
I appreciate the info!
There has to be a way to get around this - Registry hack or some other kind of work-around. If anyone knows - Please be kind enough to share the knowledge
first thing i want to do is say i know this is not a q/a forum and i'm sorry for posting a question. i hope this does not get me banned, but i needed a devs assistance, not the random advice of people as inexperienced as myself, and thought this the best place to seek it. if this is completely the wrong place, please just move it and don't delete/lock it on me. I have looked everywhere i knew before turning to this section of the forums to ask questions like this. i am an aspiring dev, and am trying to learn the tools and cannot figure anything out when it comes to adb. ive spent hours on here. androidcentral. and google. almost 5 tonight alone on this one specific problem. all leading me in circles- giving me lists of commands and not telling me what or how they work and where the files i need/want go, or even how to access or create them.
heres the thing. i can make themes. change elements on my phone, make cwm3 files and flash them great. ive done a lot of custom tweaks and swaps to and between my favorite roms and themes.
NOW i want to get a copy of my system. an image of it; like nandroid only something i can view/edit. something similar to one of those zips i downloaded for the roms i've been playing with. something i can click through and view. nandroid is an image- an image that i cannot even get to emulate with my regular virtual disk emulators. im getting pissed. i got told to do a system dump with adb. what good does that do me? ive done about 50 tonight. i cant find where the stupid things even dump TO. all i want is a file that has all everything i need in it that i've changed. somethign with my framework, twframework, apps, and all the other system changes that ive done and im ready to throw my damned computer and phone into my wall. ive sat here for over 4 hours, on here, android central, and google. and i'm still effing lost. the ONLY thing i've acomplished is to figure out how to use cmd prompt to enable adb. thats IT. im ready to scream. PLEASE- someone tell me how i can make this stupid phone dump the files i want/need onto my computer or sd card or someplace accessable. someplace that i could, in theory, open and view and use to make a theme/rom of my own. sorry for ranting but im really irritated right now on account of the hours i've spent and gotten NOWHERE. please help me (and please dont send me on to a post or a website that just tells me what the commands are. i know what they are. i have lists and lists of them. thats all ive been able to find tonight. i want to know HOW to use them, where they dump to, and how to make a useable file FROM them.)
I only got thru half of this, but search for unyaffs to extract a nandroid backup, essentially giving u a copy of your /system folder.
EDIT: attached. Create your backup through clockwork. Copy the backup folder to your computer, paste this zip inside that folder, extract, open up DOS prompt (go to that folder), type unyaffs system.img . I recommend a google search for unyaffs for more detailed info, as this thread will prob be moved/closed.
.. causes clutter for people looking through actual development projects.
close away. THANK YOU. thats what ive been trying to do with adb and figure out for hours. thank you thank you.
Np. ..went thru hell looking for that a while back.
