Replacing the XDA II Backpack battery with higher capacity ? - General Accessories

I have an O2 XDA2 clip on Backpack and was wondering if the internal battery inside it could be replaced with a higher capacity one ? I dont want to take it apart until i`m sure that this can be done, as it is the internal battery is only 600 mAh. If you are not familiar which this item heres what it looks like

and it also works with the i-mate, Qtek 2020 and T-mobile MDA.
Hopefully hear some info on this soon.
John.

Hey John I can't seem to find any info on this subject but I doubt if that would be possible, but the only way to find out for sure is open the unit and see if the battery is replacable.

Hi, The backpack battery is replaceable , not sure on the product number though , once the 4 screw's are out the battery can be eased out , it is very simular to most mobile phone batt. i've seen them in the the link for 40 quid by motorola. steve

Extended batteries and/or double battery chargers?

Gotten a liking for MSN Messenger on the Exec, but it's a battery hog. Looking for a decent larger capacity battery, or a charger that can charge the device PLUS a second standard battery.
I've trawled through the threads and don't see much, but that could just be me!
What is the definitive answer for those hoping to get a DECENT days work out of this device...?
No-one? Damn.
Take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34638
It is found a few post down.

Had already posted on that thread, but don't see a "decent larger capacity battery, or a charger that can charge the device PLUS a second standard battery" that I can actually buy. Cheers anyhow.
Here is a link for a battery for the EXEC: http://www.batteryupgrade.com/ You have to choose for what type of PDA, brand , and type of phone.
It is the same as the original though. I don't think there is an extended battery nor charger available yet. But this will give you an extra battery for the moment. The only draw back is, you have to use the actual device as the charger too.
Couple of suggestions
This ones an external battery 3600mAH -http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=3131
This goes inside BUT needs a new rear panel with a power bulge - 300mAH though -
http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=2978
Both of these items are reportedly not available as of now but on their way (end of Feb 2006) but the following is - its a slightly more powerful 1750mAH replacement -
http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=2230
Just for the record I am nothing to do with the company selling these apart from having bought items from them in the past!
Hope this helps!

This battery still hasnt become available. The site says it should have been available 1st March. Any ideas?
Cheap!!!! Check this out! But the rear cover doesn't come in black though!?

200 $ ? They are crazy....
But it really look sweet.

and comes the extended battery?!

While my jasjar is walking through the graveyard, seeking a way-out, with its lcd leaking like crazy, I was checking out the accessories at eBay.
There are extended batteries listed on eBay.
Search text:::
* jasjar extended battery
* jasjar spare battery
They mention:
*Rechargeable and removable power
*Xda Exec/T-Mobile Mda Pro/i-mate Jasjar/Qtek 9000/Orange spv m5000 series compatibility
*Extended 3000 mAh
*Easy installation
*CE APPROVED
About ~27 pounds each (battery & extended backcover).
So it looks like it will be a whopping 1620->3000mah jump... almost double the charge capacity
Any comments on these items? Has anyone tried them already?
- Matt
I have one of the 3000mA ones. Works fine. Adds bulk to the unit though.
I also have the 3000mah thicker battery with battery cover..and I must say that I'm quite impressed with it so far. It obviously does add to the size but as I dont usually carry my exec in any type of case it doesnt bother me, however I do use a screen protector as I keep the unit in protrait mode normally.
Definatly worth it if you can handle the extra thickness.

CHEAP!
Imagine putting 4 2500MaH rechargable batteries in it = 10.000 Mah extened Battery + charger.
Connect it when you don't use it, and you always have a full Universal to use.
Also you can buy the batteries in every store in case you need it.
Thank you for your email.
Take a look in this information. It is really interesting but I have not information about quality or security on purchase, do you know this shop?
The following batteries are also suitabel for the iMate Jasjar:
1750 mAh
(http://www.batteryupgrade.com/product_detail.php?productId=28712338 )
3150 mAh
(http://www.batteryupgrade.com/product_detail.php?productId=26539598 )
(the second battery is slightly larger that the original, but comes with an
extended cover which fits your PDA).
i just received a 3800mAh expanded battery from expandsys. ii wanted a 4800, but i didn'tthink it would fit any of the cases i have around, this barely makes it. it's black, and the cover and battery and intergrated together. it's very nice, even thought my PDA unit is silver it give it the two tone that matches the speaker. oddly they don't seem to offer it anymore; the total. price was 91.95 including tax. and shipping.

Looks like my main battery for O2 XDA NEO is dying, maybe WM6 is eating more of my battery power. Now I want to get a replacement battery. My friends and I are using the 1800mAh batteries from this seller http://search.stores.ebay.com.au/SO...dgetsQQfsooZ2QQfsopZ2QQsaselZ30323434QQsofpZ0
Comparing to my one year old 1200mAh original battery the results were obvious. I could get more than 90 hours of standby with a few mins of call each day. Something I couldn't have thought of with a PocketPC phone.
It's been about 5 months since my purchase, the battery is still good. I heard from others that non-genuine battery tend to have shortened lifespan in just a few months.
Only about 3 to 5 grams heavier and 1mm thicker (which leaves no space between the back cover and the battery) if you do notice these minute differences. It's crucial that the battery won't make your Prophet any thicker!
My only complain was, if you asked, that it took almost a week for the delivery. Otherwise I'm happy with it.

DealExtreme.com Customer Support
forgot to say, battery is not heating up at all - I left it on charge for 3 or 4 hours last night and nothing - however, residual charge is actually powering the PDA so there is life in there. Must be the chip that reports on battery condition and charge etc.
Also, I have tried both in 3 different PDA (m600's) and same problem. One phone has an 1800mah battery purchased from ebay and that looks exactly the same but works fine - so it's not as if the PDA can't handle non-standard size.
Hope this helps.

Anyways these guys are certified Mugen dealers/resellers. Go for it without second thoughts.

We want to know what it looks like, ie. is it larger than the eBay 3200/3800mAH batteries, and if so by how much? And what is the performance like, ie. how long does it last under heavy and light use? Does it obscure the camera in any way?
If you could post some of your thoughts when you receive it, we would very much appreciate that - many thanks

I feel sorry for you. yes 3200mAh brand new from ebay. Came from Shanghai. Very trustworthy these 3200mAh batteries.
I need help to make a decision. Which device to buy?
HTC Atena - $750 or
O2 XDA Flame - $600 or
HTC Kaiser - $900
As you see I already owned a HTC Athena before and I also own HTC Kaiser. But I cannot keep 10 devices cause it gets really confusing. Like which device must I use. Thats why i have decided to keep 2 devices. HTC Universal forever and one more. I am all about performance and technical detail. Size must be small too.

Universal dont have that kind of stuff.

Getting a new battery for your Universal - a guide

I've just purchased my THIRD extended battery for my MDA PRO, and I have learned quite a lot over the past few years so I will share some of this information with you, in the form of a buyer's guide to getting a new battery for your HTC Universal.
Types
There are THREE different physical types of replacement battery (PU16A) available for the HTC Universal. These are:
Standard (original) type battery. These are the same size as the battery that came with your Universal when you originally purchased it, so they do not increase the size or weight of your device and do not need a new back cover. They vary in rated capacity from 1600 to 1750mAh, and are the cheapest to buy.
Extended battery. There are 3 or 4 different brands of this type floating around, and they vary in rated capacity from 3150 to 3800mAh. At the moment the 3150mAh 'Cameron Sino' brand is by far the most widely available on eBay. These are also cheap, and actually offer the best price/mAh rating of all (bang for buck). These also significantly increase the size and weight of your device, and they require a new back cover (which should always be included when you buy the battery).
Ultra extended battery. There are 3 different brands of this type: The 4800mAh 'Cameron Sino' which is the cheapest, the 5000mAh Worcell which is a LOT more expensive, and at the very top we have the 5200mAh Mugen which is VERY expensive indeed. This type of battery increases the size and weight of your device even further, and includes a new back cover which is larger than the one found on 3xxx mAh batteries (although in my opinion it does look better!).
My main point is that within each type, the various different brands of battery are all physically identical, that means they have exactly the same components as each other. It is possible that they may have been made in different factories, eg. some in Japan and some in China, although to be honest I doubt this as it just does not make financial sense to produce this product in anywhere other than 1 factory.
Quality issues
The first 3200mAh battery I purchased was faulty, my phone just displayed a red light and refused to boot no matter what I did. The replacement was fine however, and I have been using it until today as my new 4800mAh battery has just arrived
Reading through these forums, it seems that quite a few people have experienced the "red light" issue on new batteries purchased from eBay sellers in Hong Kong. This is not common at all, but there is a small risk that it can happen.
In my opinion though, the massive amount of money you can save by purchasing the battery from eBay is more than worth this risk (all sellers should replace faulty batteries anyway). The 5200mAh Mugen battery for example is nearly five times more expensive than a Cameron Sino 4800mAh from eBay, and this is close to the actual cost of an entire second hand HTC Universal! So from the Ultra category I think only the 4800mAh battery is good value, the 5000 and 5200 models are just FAR too expensive for such little extra benefit - which you are highly unlikely to notice anyway.
Coming soon: Photographs of the 3 different types of battery that are available.
thanks for the tip man
I just ordrered 5200 one from Murgen, hoping to review it soon

Sorry for my first post on this board to be a whinge, but I've found the post extremely useful until I realised it doesn't quite make sense. Are the 4800/5000/5200's the same or different?
Not trying to be picky, but I would actually love to know as I've recently got a 2nd hand universal, and my battery is dying before I get back home from work. This thread seems like it has a lot of info which will be very useful/interesting to me, once it's cleared up.
They are not the same, 4800mah is cheapest and pretty massive and deliveres best bang for the buck performance... 5000 and 5200 models are much expencive and delivers not too much better performance than 4800mAh model...
Building battery for Uni
There is also a possibility to build your own battery for Uni and this hand-made battery is very useful where you don't find the battery for your device....like me.
There is no battery available in my country for Uni and I've built the battery for my device last year, which is still working great.
Tomal: That sounds very interesting, what is the battery life like? And what chemistry is it, Lithium Ion, Lithium Ion Polymer or something else?
Could you take a few pictures? I would love to see it!

Don't think so as they are actually the same model of HTC Universal just branded with other company's name.

Welcome to the forum
Please READ the Wiki, there is a section of battery problems
Good luck
What does one have to do AFTER getting a new battery? Do we need to fully charge it, or fully discharge it? Please let me now as my battery arrives on wednesday.
I made a fully discharge then fully charge, but the problem continues.
Maybe the new battery isn't that new as the seller claims???
