Cab files....

Im pretty new here and just got my BA not tooo long ago...I used to be a trreo user now im hooked on my BA.
I see alot of software that comes in a form of a cab file...does anyone know how I can load that software on my BA? thanks alot!
hey mate and welcome!
if you put the cab file in your pc folder; you'll see that the description is "zip file"....that's because it's the only format microsoft recognizes...in a way its also true as the cab file is a compiled program ready for installation. what you do is DON'T unzip the file in your pc; rather cut/copy and paste it directly in your ba (via activesync or in your sd card). put it in a folder that's easy to find; say "my documents...personal" (or you can make your own folder to put in cab files). use your ba's file explorer and go to the folder...from there double click (via stylus) on the cab file and it will automatically install itself. btw, if you copied the cab file in your sd card you can also execute the installation there....no need to paste it in your my documents area.
if you're using wm2005; upon execution the unit will ask you if you want to install it in the sd card or internal memory....that's really up to you depending on the size of the file you're installing.
hope that helps

thanks alot Robson.
Ive always looked past cab file programs b/c i couldnt install it. I hope this thread helps other newbies too. I searched and couldnt find an answer.
is there anyway that can install cab files direct from pc to ppc?
sorry for the late response; was in china for a week.
unfortunately, no. i don't think there's a way to install cab files via pc. if you do unzip a cab file; you'll notice that the files are something like:
0000124
009890
or something like that....can be as many as 20 lines of code...but scanning through the entire zip will not give you any .exe files which can be executed via pc. if you have a card reader installed on your laptop, simply copy and paste the cab file on your sd and from there install via your ppc
hope that helps

the backup should be in the ClockWorkMod or TWRP folder in your card...
I know it is in TWRP but which folder? the galaxy nexus does not have sd card storage, so it is virtual sd card folder.
I did nanadoid backup and save to TWRP.
I'm using rhythm software andrid file manager, /sdcard has TWRP folder showing the backup contents.
/storage/emulated/0 and /storage/emulate/legacy showing the TWRP backup contents. /mnt/sdcard has TWRP folder also showing the contents. but in TWRP folder internal storage is empty.
which is the folder path showing up in windows explorer in pc when I plug in usb cable, in pc windows explorer display glalaxy nexus\internal storage?
CWM backups are stored in /data/media/clockworkmod but you need a file explorer with root privileges to copy it to the PC-readable memory. Dunno about TWRP
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
sorry but my answer is still not answered here.

TWRP on PC
which one of the yellow folders in the screen shot will pull out same contents in pc ?
You can't view the Android file system in Windows, you have to make a backup on the phone and then copy this to a PC-viewable folder. Only then can you view the contents of the Android system
which is pc viewable folder?

[Q] Error Copying Files or Folders

Hey everyone,
I am trying to copy my Titanium Backup files from internal storage to my computer's hard disk. I plug my VS9854G to my USB2 port and it links up (MTP), fine. I can select the files in the TB directory but when I "paste" them in a directory on my computer I keep getting an error message "error copying files or folder" about 8 files into the copy process and displays a dialog box (error copying files or folders), and it quites.
Is this a long-file-name issue or linux-to-windows device storage, or permissions types issue? Anyone having this issue. I know it is something right in front of me I am just missing.
tom
i had the same problem. solved it with making a zip archive on the phone from the titanium folder and transfer this to pc.
Thanks for the reply
Many thanks but to tell you the truth I was able to do to CMD/DOS and use "Xcopy"".....it's gotta be permissions?

Can't see xml file copied from system\etc folder

I copied a file named "mixer_paths.xml" to the internal SD card in order to edit it on the computer and save a backup, but for some reason I can't see it when going through the files on the computer.
Why? And how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance!
