I am planning on giving my XDA II to my brother, so I will hard reset. Is there any way I can backup my SMS messages that are on the device. The contacts are already in outlook, however, I can never get the messages and the nortes backed up. Help please...
you can try this software, search with google.com "Jeyo Mobile Companion"
Messages Backup software
Hello,
I've found a sms/mms/e-mail backup software.
I tried it out and it worked on my XDAIIs.
messages -> txt files
The first verision is available at: xpocketpc.fw.hu.
I spoke with the developer by mail, he told the new versions coming out in this week.

Re: SMS/MMS Backup does not work
Hi!
I've tried out this SMS/MMS/Email export program (http://xpocketpc.fw.hu) and nothing has happened. Does anybody
know how does it work?
Thanks
Watch your Temp folder! There are!
It would be great if we could set the folder...
:?
Sorry,
It wasn't understandable!
U only have to run this program on your pda and the messages will be in the temp folder!
SMS/MMS/Email export program
Now I understand. It's working!!!
You should try it...

I was wondering if it's possible to copy my received sms/mms messages to my PC? There doesn't seem to be an option in Activesync.
I used to use this program: www.mobiledit.com to backup my messages on my old Motorola V3, but that program doesn't (yet) support smartphones, typical!
So if someone could tell me HOW, or if there is any 3rd party software that can do it?
Thanks!
Apparently Kai's Mail+SMS Backup .Net will do it.
I've never used it though.
I think this is the sort of functionality that should be pre-built. The ability to export any settings and messages to a data-file on a PC (or the storage card) ready to be restored after a hard reset/ROM upgrade.
I use Jeyo Mobile Companion to backup sms, unfortunately it cant handle mms.

Ahh that looks like just the thing im after, thanks! Pity it doesn't support MMS though I wonder if that's planned in a future release....
EDIT: Damn i just looked again, and the latest version was released in August 2004! :'(
I'm looking for a solution for transfert mms from a device to an other with arcsoft MMS composer ...
Well i can see a directory named "UAContents" in the My Documents directory that apparently contain all mms file but if i copy it to the new device nothing appear in the inbox or all other folders
is somebody make this successfuly ?
Jeyo pwns.
esp. with Outlook 2003... (yes, something actually works properly and flawlessly with a Microsoft product !!)
Yah that's what im using now, and i agree, it actually WORKS lol!
Although my phone has started to do strange things lately... resulting in the loss of my texts and e-mails...... i just hope it isnt linked to Jeyo!
Hi, there is a way to backup my sms' and other things (also if the only thing I want to backup is the sms') (and mms, if possible) from WM2003SE to WM5?
I wanted to upgrade my 9090 to WM5 rom, but I need to backup these data. I don't have Outlook so I can't export sms with activesync,..
There is a way?
Let me know guys,
Bye,
Ethaniel
Jeyo Mobile Companion works a charm!
thank you mate, i'll have a look as soon as possible
It also backups sms and mms?
Bye,
Federico
jeyo doesnt do backups.
I am facing similar prob. I dont use windows but just for this task i'm installing Windows XP/Office and then active sync 4.2. Blows!
It doesn't backup? What a pity..
Anyway, I installed it now but doesn't read SMS in folders I created under Inbox, and then can't read mms (i think it's normal, as the app is ArcSoft MMS Composer, not integrated in the os)..
So can we have a solution? Sprite doesn't backup from 2003 to 2005, i asked to Technical Center.
In the way you said Can i backup sms, and MMS correctly?
or if possibile it'll be useful to know where MMS Composer stores MMS database to restore it back in WM05.
Any possibility for us?
THank you,
Federico
well, surprise, surprise, cursed activesync doesnt sync SMS messages to desktop. smsbackup / smsorganizer simply crashes. POS. I'll post here when i find something that works.

Only if you give me the correct lotto numbers for friday.
4-9-89 on Rome.. Sure mate
Hi,
the program can not restore the SMS, but you can install
the software on your new wm 5 device and copy the file
"mailbackup.cdb" from your old device to you new device.
Then you can view the sms.
Kai
This what the company of the program told me just now...
Maybe I'll try..
Jeyo DOES do SMS, but I don't think it does MMS.
I use it all the time when upgrading/downgrading ROMs.
However, it doesn't backup other data such as settings and internet options etc.
Hi guys,
I have gotten most of my setting over to this great phone but I am having a problem with finding a way of getting my old txt messages to my new handset.
I don't really wanna forward them on as they will not state who they were originally from.
I have tried to backup the messaging folder using Sprite backup and all that did was put the txt messages there but I lost the folders and ability to use MMS.
Can anyone suggest where I may find the files (texts) and where then to replace them on my new handset?
Ok free bump anyone know how to help with this one?
Pocket pc's save them to phone memory and read from there, unless you have a special program to do otherwise ;-)
No I have no program to do this, all I want to do is copy the old messages from my old handset to the new one.
I have tried to copy to the sim then back to phone but my old MDA Compact II does not have that option.
Does anyone know where on the phone they are stored so I could copy them over etc?
There is no simple way to copy sms messages - if you try copying the contents of your messaging folder they do not appear under text messages.
Search and you will find my friend - if you did you would of found this:
Jeyo mobile extender http://www.jeyo.com/extender.asp
It will copy messages to outlook on pc then you can sync with new device
or smsOrganizer v2.10 for WM2005/WM2003SE where you can also backup your texts. http://www.zedsoft.net/
Thanks Mark just uploaded Jeyo mobile extender and it does all I am looking for so I'll enjoy the trial and may even end up buying it?

If you follow the Upgrade mode FAQ, step by step here
https://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/...earch=Search&area=0&criteria=0&sort=0&start=0
you should be able to restore the sms messages to your MDA Compact II
Note you should make a full backup, not just the email database, but all databases
Thanks for that its good to know wish I had seen this before as I had to load everything from scratch.
Can recommend Jeyo mobile extender has a few things they can improve on but is great for txting from keyboard (PC)

If you just want to overwrite OS, look in the wiki for flashing from the microSD card. Go into booloader, press the power button to confirm the flash.
Problem is, of course, you wont be able to see if it has really worked.....

Can someone please help me out?
I've been using Jeyo Mobile Extender with my Dash (S620) and i switched over from WM5 to WM6. Since then, I have a bunch of duplicate messages in my Outlook folder, as well as a bunch of random unread sent messages. Any way of deleting duplicate messages as a whole?

What you do is:
1. Download all yr messages to yr outlook.
2. Spring clean whatever you don't need
3. Copy yr messages back to device
Ta DA!
Hello. I've checked the previous pages and didn't see anyone having the same question. That probably means i am the only one so dumb in here)))
Basically, last night i was playing with overclocking my XDA Orbit being insured that all the contacts are syncronized. At some point (273MHz) the device stopped responding so i had to soft reset it. Later i found that nothing got lost BUT my contact list with all the numbers. Next, I open Outlook and see that none of them were saved there. WTF is ActiveSync is doing then? And another problem is that i cannot use backup of my old WM2003 contact list because there is no such option as Backup/Restore in WM6. Any ideas? Please,HELP. I really need those numbers back...

The contacts in the Orbit are gone...
The contacts in the Outlook not sync'ed hence they too gone...
Cannot import 2003 backup into WM6 - different structure
Option 1 - if you have old outlook backup - you can re-import into new outlook file and they re-sync again
Option 2 - Manually enter all the numbers you remember
Option 3 - Nothing
Basically the fact is if you cannot see the contacts in the fone - they are gone! If you cannot see in outlook they are gone - only option is to get from another source!
You mentioned 2003 backup - what did you take the backup with? Maybe you can still read using the same software and try to retrieve the number - or use another 2003 model to import into it
The backup was taken using Backup/Restore feature of WM2003. But I really wonder now, WHY Microsoft decided not to include this option in WM6? If anything happens, you're properly f****d, like me now.
BTW, WM2003 Contact list backup can be accessed with Notepad, but the data looks a bit messy that way.

Am not in the same situation...was letting you know your options....
Good luck with the retrieval...
don't take it personally, i meant "You" in general
I analyzed the chain of events and it seems like i found the root of the problem. It's was nothing to do with overclocking or the device itself. Its ActiveSync. As I usually don't use Outlook, the contact list there was always empty. And this blessed child of Microsoft instead of copying contacts from XDA to Outlook did it other way round thus erasing everything on the phone. Don't know what to do, laugh or cry, but it's so... so... ridicilous!
Thanx for your help anyway, much appreciated
